  • Sometimes you might need to make a job application that stands out from the crowd. Sometimes you’ll need to explain something that an employer might miss by simply reading your application. With that in mind, it might be worthwhile sending in a video application to really get their attention.
    Vidyard.com is a nice app to use for this. You can download it by visiting the Chrome Web Store. But what should you say in the video? Here are a few tips:
    KEY POINTS:
    Introduce yourself
    Express interest
    Outline your value
    Suggest a call-to-action

    I hate that this has become a requirement, you really have to bend over backwards for the HR people and they hardly ever even write back..

    Great summary and video. What would you ideal length be for this? Asked to do this as part of the initial application for a role. Thanks!

      Generally speaking, I think about 2 minutes is a sweet spot, but like most things, it really depends on the role and the situation.

    Well, nowadays hiring managers require a video presentation, so it won't help you stand out. Ronan should talk about how to make your video stand out!

    • @ronankennedy
      @ronankennedy  Год назад +3

      Hi Robi, thanks for your comment. You can make your video stand out by being specific to the person you're speaking to and referring to the company, and their products/services.
      In addition, if you make a video that speaks to the brand of the organisation, then that will also grab the attention of the hiring manager. For example, if you were going for a job at Netflix, you could make your video introduction look like a Netflix show, or if you were going for a job in a local business, you could use their colours, logo and speak about why you'd like to work with them and their products/services.

      I understand your meaning and I came here as I am preparing to post a job opening and working on writing the instructions as to how to apply. When I consider your question the first thing that came to my mind is, follow the instructions first! If there's no mention of an intro cover letter you may do as you suggest send the video.

    Ronan, should we put subs for more clarity if you r not a native speaker of the language you are using in video?

    • @ronankennedy
      @ronankennedy  10 месяцев назад

      Yeah it's a nice idea, but I would focus more on speaking clearly-there'll be no subs in real life when you're working with them...
      I think a good alternative to highlight your points and give more clarity would be to put some key points on the screen-just like I have in this video. hope that helps! Best of luck @faizamalik5293

      More companies are actually moving to this in the interview process. Not just media related or something you might assume would be an obvious. A recent job I saw for a production based company as a district manager had the entire first interview as self-recorded answers to questions on their portal.

    • @ronankennedy
      @ronankennedy  Год назад +1

      Hey @@boboso7238 - yeah I've heard more about companies doing this as well. It's pretty tricky because it's really another skill to learn-speaking to camera and answering without hesitation. A tip for doing this is to practice on your phone and record the answers to standard interview questions-or use software to give you a random question.

      Hi Ronan, correct! And tho I'm fairly comfortable with technology generally, I've been struggling with this video component the last couple years since its becoming more popular & required in some instances. I'm a GenX'er btw, quite personable in person ... but very camera shy & this is really holding me back now.
