I have the Mate R. I actually haven't had two bikes on it yet. If you have one bike on there you could tilt it like you did obviously, but with two I think there's two much going on and too much to hang onto, etc. Love the rack though. A little confusing to assemble, but works awesome.
Thanks for the review update Scott. Two questions: 1. A reviewer on another site mentioned that the ratcheting straps on the wheels came loose on him while driving and he needs to use Velcro straps as a reinforcement. Have you ever had issues with the ratcheting straps coming loose in transit? 2. Two other reviewers mentioned that when they used the bike rack in the rain, the rack began rusting in a week. 1. In my original review of this rack, I showed that if you put the ractchet straps in the wrong way they come loose. I can only assume that he did that because I have used this rack about 30 times without an issue. No velcro straps needed. 2. I think mine does have a couple small surface rust spots. When the rack gets moved around and banged on, if the paint or protective film they have on the rack comes off, it will start to rust in areas. It has not rusted any more than my Hollywood rack so I think the amount of rust is normal. On mine, its just surface rust and small spots. Thanks for your service! The straps seem awfully strong to me. This is the #1 rack that I use and I believe they are a plastic material but very flexible.
Lean the bike back or buy a 4Runner with a rear window that rolls down 😊
As you saw, I lean the bike back. My RAV4 is perfect for our little household, that 4Runner would eat up what little room I have left in that garage.
Thanks for info, would you recommend not leaving attached to the car for a long time for rust issues I live near the beach and worried about that
Hmmmmm... If you can use bike grease to lube it up it might be okay. FYI, I'm just guessing here but it seems logical to me.

Any idea how much this rack weighs? I cant find it on the website. My vertical tongue limit is not very high so i need to manage the weight.
I think it weights about 35-40lbs.
