      You can dye whether regular leather or patent. If they are not patent and are regular leather, I have other videos on how to prep, paint, and seal.

    Help. I was looking for a lavender or lighter lilacs but could only find paint. Do you have any suggestions please?

    • @tieksresort
      @tieksresort  3 года назад

      Dye will only make a color darker so the new color will always be darker than the base. You can dilute the dye with clear dye to make the color lighter if you start with a light color and don’t want a very dark color.

      mariecharles212 I have brushes from my late teen/early 20’s. 😂 The packages say Lowe & Cornell. They are just acrylic paint brushes that I used to paint canvases with.

    Have you ever dyed with Angelus light rose? I’m thinking about dying some biscottis and am wondering the difference between rose and light rose. Also, how long after deglazing did you do your first coat? Then how long between coats (after the quick alcohol wipe down)? Thanks!

    • @tieksresort
      @tieksresort  3 года назад

      I haven’t used light rose so I’m not sure how they compare. I personally just go right into it since it isn’t like painting. The “deglazing” is mostly for cleaning off anything which may be on the surface of the patent instead of opening the leather like when painting so I just go ahead and dye right after. I don’t have to let it sit between wipe downs either I do usually let it sit on before I wipe it off though. With a lighter color, depending on how light you want, you may not want to let it sit as long since that helps more of the color soak in.

    Hi there, I am trying to “fix” my sister’s slate gray crocs. She ended up with some color transfer somehow and had some black splotches. I deglazed/cleaned, used a layer of navy blue to take them darker before black. Wiped. And at this point have used two layers of black.
    I still can’t get it completely black. The teeny crackle areas seem to only want to hold on to the blue. The more solid areas though are just not only black like I’d hoped. Do you have any suggestions?

    • @tieksresort

      The wrinkles may remain a lighter color. I feel like the patent finish is thicker/condensed in the wrinkled areas so it would make it harder to let the dye soak in. Maybe let it sit longer to see if it can penetrate those areas a little better? Black is a hard color for dying to get a pure black color.

    Does the dye stick to your fingers later on?

    • @tieksresort
      @tieksresort  2 года назад

      If you get dye on your hands while dying the shoes, it will stay. After you are finished with the shoes and they have been wiped and dried, you won’t get any dye on your hands handling them.

    Did you dye the inside rim as well?

    • @tieksresort
      @tieksresort  2 года назад +1

      I don’t normally dye the whole inside rim but you can. I’m just afraid I’ll get dye on the insole so I just go barely inside.

    Thanks so much for putting this video together. I am looking forward to trying this! One question: I see that you’re using Angelus leather dye. The Tarrago company advertises a penetrating dye specifically for patent leather. Have you tried that? Just wondering if there is any reason to prefer one or the other?

    • @tieksresort
      @tieksresort  4 года назад +2

      Prairie Dog Sport I haven’t tried the Tarrago dyes. They appear to both be alcohol based which would allow them to perform the same way. Angelus also appears to have many more color choices than Tarrago.

      Thanks so much for your answer. That makes a lot of sense. Speaking of Angelus leather dye options, do you have any suggestions for a dark brown angelus leather dye that could take a pink patent leather to a rich dark brown? I’m looking for a rich brown (not a reddish oxblood), but it’s hard to tell the difference between angelus dark brown, spice, and coffee from the little sample on their website. Are there any you particularly like?
