It broke my heart, I still have my dad but I can’t imagine what’s it like to lose one of your parents including how Luz had the right to be upset and angry and grieve,since she doesn’t have her dad and she must feel like that amity is lucky to have dad. Even though she had it happened a long time ago I know she still misses her dad everyday not to mention it’s just her and her mom now,but she’s stuck on the boiling isles and she misses her so much.

This is exactly how my mom is with me. She only wants me to be able to support myself financially, even if I’m miserable doing so. She constantly acts up when I don’t behave like her or take more time to grasp a concept than her.

Luz is such a great character. She always has this positive attitude about everything, but we see through Amity's reaction that she's clearly trying to hide how much pain she's actually in, not just for her dad but in general. I love their relationship...SO MUCH. 😢
Ikr! the whole "it's not a big deal cause it happened a long time ago" facade is really sad, Luz was undermining her feelings cause "it's a long time ago" but the fact is, it still hurts even tho its been so long.
As common as dead parents are in Disney, they haven't really explored the aftermath like this before as a rule. Really can't blame anyone for getting emotional when those feelings are finally represented, especially the struggle of trying to get through a day where those feelings all come rushing back

This comment is so true. Every time I would see one of the twins this episode, I just thought, "God, they just keep getting prettier!" Also, in my opinion at least, Alador never really seemed like a bad guy. A bad dad, yes, but not a bad guy. It just seems to me like he's constantly got a lot of shit to focus on, and ends up tunnel-visioning HARD. Which causes him to not pay much attention to his family.
With only this episode, I just have to say: Dana and her crew really know how to mess with our hearts, and in a good and realistic way. Is Disney so blind to see the potential they're wasting by giving us a non-full 3rd Season? If Luz wasn't with Amity in this episode, I wonder how things could've turned out for her on how she would've dealt with her emotions and guilt complex rising up and making her do highly dangerous things, like what happened with the Selkidomus. There's a reason Luz and Amity are so perfect together! They are the supporting pillar of one another, and if one can't deal with a problem alone, the other is there to make sure she would make it through.
Imagine if we got Luz's quinceanera in e full 3rd season (if only). depending on how the Day of Unity goes and if Luz is reunited with her mom, she might become flooded with so many emotions about celebrating with the important people in her life but not having one of the most important people (her father) there for one of her biggest moments in life, especially for the traditional father-daughter dance.
It's been 10 years since my Dad passed and hearing Luz talk about how it "isn't an issue" anymore but still is very much affected by it...that hits hard.
This episode had hit me right at home. When Luz talked about her father's passing when she was young. It reminded me of the little brother I lost. I always would talk about him and talk to him on his birthday and visit his grave with a cupcake and iced tea for him to eat. I leave it on his crypt? Gravestone. My friends accompany me at times when I do. I relate on how she feels weak and shaken when quarantine rolled I couldn't visit his grave and introduce him new friends I felt so sad. For years I blamed myself for his passing because I just got home late to call an ambulance for my mom. But, she always reminded me the sick medical system of my country was the fault he passed away.
Wasn't it cute in Amitys pic of her dad shows a teen Darius, Eda and Raine on a date and Odlaia blushing up a storm looking at Altidore. Showing Amity got being a tomato from her mom. It makes me wonder what made her into such a horrible person as a adult. Love how Eda and Ed are getting along. Also how eda is calling Luz her kid. It's been awhile she has done that. I love how Ed got development. I also feel bad that he got a bad girl coven shirt and Emira popped up wanting one to. Also Emira with healing and Ed with beasts. This episode was really raw and touched home with me because my dad passed away not even a year ago. I also love how healthy this show portrays their relationship. Amity was hurt and upset but doesn't let that cloud her judgement nor her communication skills.
The balloon hit me in the heart. I never knew my dad, though he was a pos. My grampa was the closest father figure I had, and After he died when I was 5, we'd buy a balloon on our shared birthday, write on it and send it to heaven, and watch till it disappeared. Ironically, I lived in connecticut at the time too, so I wonder now if maybe it's a common tradition there I just thought was unique to my family. I didn't realize WHY it hit me so hard until I watched your reaction, then I remembered. It's been a long time since we've done it. .. I think I'll send a balloon to heaven, this year.
The way Luz talked about her father was so touching and sad. My family went through a lot during a death scare a while ago. We were told that my father was going to pass away. I live far away from my family and because of covid related issues I couldn't visit him or support my grieving mother in person. When I was able to visit him he couldn't even get out of bed or wake up. We all had to say our goodbyes. Days later he miraculously recovered and is good now after months of stress. However that the way Luz talked about how this would be the first time she can't be there for her mom during this time triggered my memories of me not being able to see my own mom in her time of need. It was too real.
Amity blushing in awe at Luz's entrance...perfect. You can just *see* her thinking "OMG, she's so hot right now..." Honestly, I thought they were divorced too. But we should have known - it's Disney. Being a parent in a Disney film pretty much has a 60% fatality rate.
Vent / Rant about dead dads :p Luz is written so well here, the thinking you should be over it, the positive exterior, and the fact that she’s having a hard time when she can’t be there with her mom. These are all things I’ve personally experienced, and still do when it comes to my dad passing. I can’t be there with my family or visit his grave because i live halfway across the country. And, like luz, i feel like i should be over it by now, but you can never get over something like that. And it’s okay to feel grief even 5, 10, hell even 50 years after it happened.
My mom passed away when I was 10. I'm 16 now and the last time I truly celebrated her was just before my abusive stepmom got married to my Dad. A day before, actually. I released a note into the sky with balloons attached. I won't say what the note said, since that's between myself and her. I tend not to think through things that well the week I have to remember the worst things that ever happened to me. Let's give some thanks to Dana Terrace for telling this kind of story.
Luz is one of the best protagonists. A lot of shows tend to explain almost everything about a characters childhood straight away, all the details of their life so you know about it. For some characters that works, Rue from Euphoria has her entire backstory explained to us, the only detail left out funnily enough is her own dads death and how that changed her. We dont know a lot about Luz's past life, we just think we do. We learn this stuff as Amity does, we are as shocked as her. Shes a happy person most of the time because shes improving from who she was before, shes matured so much but shes still flawed, just not flawed in a way that needs fixing. Sasha kept her anger in amphibia because thats just her human flaw, not something that needed fixing. Luz doesnt even let herself properly express her upset until she sees how upset Amity is FOR her, she knows it doesnt justify her actions and how she hurt Amity but she also isnt upset at herself for grieving. Thats important I think, incredibly important for people to see. Side note, she did the little glyph fan thing from the grom fight before Eda picked her up hah, shes a dork. Raeda, Darius and Odalia peaking in her dads photo is cute too.
My brother died about 5 years ago now.. I found him hanging in his room.. it's been a really tough thing to go through and I just want to say I'm proud of anyone who's lost someone. You are an official legend! We love you all♡♡
this episode was nothing short of a kaleidoscope of emotions seeping from every crevice of the screen. luz's disposition is often orchestrated of zeal and enthusiasm, and seeing her deviate from her conduct as it tackles the concept of death was a heartpour. && seeing amity's saucer eyes wide opened afterwards the revelation... this moment framed what message was being embodied here. :'[
even tho i felt bad for alador when amity just gave him a handshake, i understand that she can't just get all affectionate with him after not even so emotional talk. i like alador, always thought of him as a neutral character, but he is a dismissive parent. i just hope we'll get more of his "redemption".

I was pretty much crying by the end of this episode too. I lost my Dad when I was 15. Now I'm in my late thirties, and the ending sort of struck a chord for me. I don't have any annual thing I do (my Dad passed around the holidays, so the yearly timing isn't great), but I do still think about him from time to time. I'm not a man of faith, but this episode did make me give a minute to hope he's well in the hereafter and smiling down on my Mom, my Brother, and me. But yeah, the entire episode was phenomenal.
As the late great Walt Disney did before them, they engaged and made their audience cry for cartoon characters. I'm convinced at this point that Disney corporate does not understand that legacy. Disney creative, like Alex Hirsch, Matt Braly, and Dana Terrace do understand that and the thanks they get for it is chopped up release schedules and axed content. As Samuel Savory once sang, " For Shaaaaame, For SHAAAAAAAAAME!
TL;DR Luz had been through a lot and couldn't maintain her mask of happiness after everything that had happened, especially in this episode. She looked extremely tired and exhausted, both physically and mentally. Luz may be developing depression. I created a really long explanation below as to how and why, and what I saw and how I could relate to it, but it's also a lot. If it's too much to read, I understand, but it would be great to know what you would think :) Luz is optimistic, and we see her get through each episode with a smile and a solution, but the last couple of episodes have just been hitting different for me. We see Luz getting more sad and stressed often. 2 episodes ago, it didn't conclude with Luz smiling, and this episode, it concluded with a visibly sad and exhausted optimist. Luz is tired. Very tired. I could argue that she's developing depression, but it's not really a stretch to say that when you hold everything that has happened accountable. She was sent to camp, but went through a magical portal to the Boiling Isles. Her 2nd mother is the most wanted woman in the Isles, therefore is being tracked 24/7. She has a curse which is very aggressive and deadly when awakened. Almost all the time, Luz goes on adventures with her, I doubt she's had a good night's sleep for a while, but she toughs it out. Almost every day, Luz finds something that almost kills her, and if she doesn't, that thing finds her. Whether it be a dangerous spell, demons, witches, school, hell, even detention. Even after those, she's positive. School, she's learning spells and a lot of magical hoohaa , and I'm sure she feels a lot of stress since she's literally a human, and humans lack magical bile sacks. Even with her glyphs, once you learn the primary elements, from there it's hard to find the secondary spells that require specific combinations. Grom reminds her of her mother, who she feared the most because she was in a place her mother definitely would approve of. She fights it, defeats it, but the psychological pain is still pushed down. Grudgby is deadly, meeting the emperor and being thrown around like a toy couldn't have been a regular Wednesday for her, seeing her new best friend and mother almost get petrified, oh and Lilith kidnapping her, that must've been fun. She meets her mother through her new door and is forced to promise her that she will not go back to the Boiling Isles once she comes back to the human realm. More stress, if she finds her way back, she loses the people that care about her. Time travel, she meets Phillip, realises he's a liar, and almost becomes a sacrifice because of him. She gets a new girlfriend, which she confides in, so it's some stress taken off. Even then, things try to kill her all the time, she keeps on beating them and coming out on top smiling, but then, her dad's anniversary comes. She cannot commemorate properly because she isn't with her mother, and so she distracts herself. She tries to help Amity, but she really just ruins the whole thing, so Amity doesn't become the champion. In frustration and sadness, she leaves both her dad and Luz because Luz had been acting weird and being dishonest. Luz realised this and went to her, and Amity hit her with how she felt and what she did. Luz had no other choice but to open up, and when she did, she was defeated, and depressed. She sugar-coated her story by smiling and using a high pitched happy voice, but we could immediately tell it was huge because of the look Amity gave her. She was seriously concerned, and felt sorry, because even if it wasn't an excuse, she was doing it all just to distract herself from the fact that she cannot be with her mother to celebrate/commemorate her dad's life. I think Amity was also shocked because she wasn't used to hearing this. I think everyone she knows in the isles has both of their parents, and them being witches, it is rare for a parent to die of an illness. Luz must've been in a lot of pain, and she was. Luz after opening up, looked very tired. They found flowers, she successfully commemorated, but that was her crumbling point. Her day was a huge day, and she was just done. She didn't have enough optimism to keep the shine in her eyes or to smile brightly, it was just the face of a person who let it all out internally. I can relate to Luz as a person who bottles up feelings. In the end, everything comes out, either in tears, physical and mental exhaustion and general neglect. Depression does a huge deal, and I think Luz may be developing it. Dana stop hitting me in the feels 😭😭😭
Actually, I think the same. In "Oh Titan, where are thou" when she discovered Eda's plan she said "are you sending me away?" I could think that she reminded when her mom had been sending Luz to a camp and ir could hurt her so much.
There was a theory that say when the alarm when off luz say get out of my head and the reason she said that was because the alarm reminds her of the ambulance that took her dad to the hospital.
Alador’s getting a good redemption arc! I found him incredibly relatable early on, and now he’s even more relatable: is easily distractible to a fault, even to the point of not seeming to care for his kin, but he still cares for his girl and only wants the best for her. He’s constantly nudging her in a direction that by all accounts, is going to let her live her dreams. Unfortunately such is very much NOT the case. 14:44 as Eda said: well congratulations, you broke Terry.
Many hopes that you get well after this episode and many hugs for yea. Also I spotted so many people in amity’s father’s photo having surprising faces in the background to being interesting. With that said, can anyone imagine this episode coming out on Father’s Day?
Imo the best episode yet. It left quite an impact and I can't get it out of my head. I think it has a lot to do with the writing and the great performances of the VAs.
Don't know if y'all noticed, but the vase Camila was putting the flower in was abomination colored, just like Amity's abomination-glue! It did reach the human realm, at least in a way. :)

This show is so wholesome for so many reasons. I love seeing Luz and Amity going through some incomprehensions but also being mature enough to talk it out, to actually listen and explain. Relationship goals from these two 14 year olds, everybody. I also deeply appreciate Amity standing up for herself and not forgiving Alador nor Luz right away. She forgave Luz immediately after they cleared things out, and whilst she yearns to get back her relationship with her dad, she's (understandably so) not ready to simply forgive and forget years of abuse. I'm glad for that, even if it's simply shown by her going for a handshake while Alador was going for a hug. Kudos to Dana and the crew~ Also, can we talk about how badass Lumity was during the whole Brawl??

Apparently Dana lost her dad when she was fairly young, and probably put a lot of her experience dealing with that into what Luz was dealing with in this episode, since this was one she wrote herself.
This episode just messed with my emotions in two ways, first becouse it's sad, and second becouse I can relate to this situation like a lot, my dad passed away when I was 7 in January of 2012 so I can relate to it for better or worse.💔
This episode alone proved how much of a perfectionist Odalia is just the illusion stones on the twins and her pressuring Amity to join a coven was just as bad while Alador just stayed in the background and just went along with it. But this episode gave him some to growth when he finally listened to Amity's frustrations about the entire family, and we finally got some development for Edric an Emira which was an added bonus to the whole thing! Also you guys can't judge me on this but Alador is freaking adorable!
Honestly, in both episodes we’ve seen him in Alador has reminded me of Entrapta, but like an exhausted Entrapta. I’m glad he finally seemed to realize in this episode that he’s been a neglectful parent, and hopefully one day when Odalia is arrested for being Evil or something, Amity and the twins will have a decent parent left to live with.

This episode had me sobbing like a child. I can relate so much with Amity's relationship with her father, but seeing Luz's hurt with her father being gone made me lose it. She kept using the excuse "it happened a while ago" and I can't count how many times I've said that with other issues. I try to use time as an excuse like I shouldn't be bothered with stuff anymore. As much as I love Amity and Luz's relationship, I worry in some ways. This is the second time Luz has lied/kept the fact she is hurting away from Amity. I get it fits her character, because Luz is such an amazing person who always wants the best for everyone around her, but hiding her feelings from her girlfriend is concerning. Amity may have been understanding the first time (in the Follies At The Coven Day Parade episode about her trip to the human realm when she saw her mom), but this time Amity was hurt by it, and even more worried about Luz. I'm so scared something is going to happen to their relationship.
I relate to luz so much tho when she said that she was jalouse or needed a distraction cuz i sometimes do get jalouse about peoples dads too. I never even knew my dad (he died when i was 2y old so i have very little memories of him + pictures) sometime i joke about it cuz its a long time ago but i always try my best to not cry for no reason at the same time idk why i still cry about it (im actually holding my tears in rn) i hate watching videos about people having fun with there dad and people who call others "fatherless" for whatever reason. I dont feel sad about it but it still makes me cry ???? Anyway sorry for venting in your comments with my bad english my point is i cried so hard in that scene and its very rare for me to cry over a show 😭
I can kinda relate to Luz. Both of my parents are alive, but the only supportive and understanding relative who wanted to spend time with me, my grandpa, passed away when I was seven. And I feel so guilty for not remembering him well. Yeah, I have a few memories of him but that's still not enough
when we think abbout it, maybe amity's plant glyph symbolizes something. Something that involves her relationship with a plant magic witch... maybe that was also foreshadowing on how amity will get to work on her relationship with willow in the coming episodes. i just really live willow and her stare while amity was braiding her hair really shows how shes still hurt from amitys actions towards her years ago

I am going to write a comment about expectations since you talked about it at the end of the video. I agree with not forcing your dreams onto your child, or high expectations of what you want them to do in life. Realising that you aren't going to live up to your parents' expectations is so difficult to accept, because you're so afraid that you're going to disappoint them. I was going to rant a little, but I'll save everyone from that, haha.

This is exactly how my mom is with me. She only wants me to be able to support myself financially, even if I’m miserable doing so. She constantly acts up when I don’t behave like her or take more time to grasp a concept than her.

Luz is such a great character. She always has this positive attitude about everything, but we see through Amity's reaction that she's clearly trying to hide how much pain she's actually in, not just for her dad but in general.

As common as dead parents are in Disney, they haven't really explored the aftermath like this before as a rule. Really can't blame anyone for getting emotional when those feelings are finally represented, especially the struggle of trying to get through a day where those feelings all come rushing back

With only this episode, I just have to say: Dana and her crew really know how to mess with our hearts, and in a good and realistic way. Is Disney so blind to see the potential they're wasting by giving us a non-full 3rd Season?
If Luz wasn't with Amity in this episode, I wonder how things could've turned out for her on how she would've dealt with her emotions and guilt complex rising up and making her do highly dangerous things, like what happened with the Selkidomus.
There's a reason Luz and Amity are so perfect together! They are the supporting pillar of one another, and if one can't deal with a problem alone, the other is there to make sure she would make it through.
Imagine if we got Luz's quinceanera in e full 3rd season (if only). depending on how the Day of Unity goes and if Luz is reunited with her mom, she might become flooded with so many emotions about celebrating with the important people in her life but not having one of the most important people (her father) there for one of her biggest moments in life, especially for the traditional father-daughter dance.

This episode had hit me right at home. When Luz talked about her father's passing when she was young. It reminded me of the little brother I lost. I always would talk about him and talk to him on his birthday and visit his grave with a cupcake and iced tea for him to eat. I leave it on his crypt? Gravestone.
My friends accompany me at times when I do. I relate on how she feels weak and shaken when quarantine rolled I couldn't visit his grave and introduce him new friends I felt so sad. For years I blamed myself for his passing because I just got home late to call an ambulance for my mom. But, she always reminded me the sick medical system of my country was the fault he passed away.

This episode was really raw and touched home with me because my dad passed away not even a year ago. I also love how healthy this show portrays their relationship. Amity was hurt and upset but doesn't let that cloud her judgement nor her communication skills.
The balloon hit me in the heart. I never knew my dad, though he was a pos. My grampa was the closest father figure I had, and After he died when I was 5, we'd buy a balloon on our shared birthday, write on it and send it to heaven, and watch till it disappeared. Ironically, I lived in connecticut at the time too, so I wonder now if maybe it's a common tradition there I just thought was unique to my family.
I didn't realize WHY it hit me so hard until I watched your reaction, then I remembered.
It's been a long time since we've done it. .. I think I'll send a balloon to heaven, this year.
The way Luz talked about her father was so touching and sad. My family went through a lot during a death scare a while ago. We were told that my father was going to pass away. I live far away from my family and because of covid related issues I couldn't visit him or support my grieving mother in person. When I was able to visit him he couldn't even get out of bed or wake up. We all had to say our goodbyes. Days later he miraculously recovered and is good now after months of stress. However that the way Luz talked about how this would be the first time she can't be there for her mom during this time triggered my memories of me not being able to see my own mom in her time of need. It was too real.

Luz is written so well here, the thinking you should be over it, the positive exterior, and the fact that she’s having a hard time when she can’t be there with her mom. These are all things I’ve personally experienced, and still do when it comes to my dad passing. I can’t be there with my family or visit his grave because i live halfway across the country. And, like luz, i feel like i should be over it by now, but you can never get over something like that. And it’s okay to feel grief even 5, 10, hell even 50 years after it happened.

My mom passed away when I was 10. I'm 16 now and the last time I truly celebrated her was just before my abusive stepmom got married to my Dad. A day before, actually. I released a note into the sky with balloons attached. I won't say what the note said, since that's between myself and her. I tend not to think through things that well the week I have to remember the worst things that ever happened to me. Let's give some thanks to Dana Terrace for telling this kind of story.

Luz is one of the best protagonists. A lot of shows tend to explain almost everything about a characters childhood straight away, all the details of their life so you know about it. For some characters that works, Rue from Euphoria has her entire backstory explained to us, the only detail left out funnily enough is her own dads death and how that changed her. We dont know a lot about Luz's past life, we just think we do. We learn this stuff as Amity does, we are as shocked as her. Shes a happy person most of the time because shes improving from who she was before, shes matured so much but shes still flawed, just not flawed in a way that needs fixing. Sasha kept her anger in amphibia because thats just her human flaw, not something that needed fixing. Luz doesnt even let herself properly express her upset until she sees how upset Amity is FOR her, she knows it doesnt justify her actions and how she hurt Amity but she also isnt upset at herself for grieving. Thats important I think, incredibly important for people to see.
Side note, she did the little glyph fan thing from the grom fight before Eda picked her up hah, shes a dork. Raeda, Darius and Odalia peaking in her dads photo is cute too.

this episode was nothing short of a kaleidoscope of emotions seeping from every crevice of the screen. luz's disposition is often orchestrated of zeal and enthusiasm, and seeing her deviate from her conduct as it tackles the concept of death was a heartpour. && seeing amity's saucer eyes wide opened afterwards the revelation... this moment framed what message was being embodied here. :'[

I was pretty much crying by the end of this episode too. I lost my Dad when I was 15. Now I'm in my late thirties, and the ending sort of struck a chord for me. I don't have any annual thing I do (my Dad passed around the holidays, so the yearly timing isn't great), but I do still think about him from time to time. I'm not a man of faith, but this episode did make me give a minute to hope he's well in the hereafter and smiling down on my Mom, my Brother, and me.
But yeah, the entire episode was phenomenal.
Luz, Amity, and Lumity had such incredible development in this episode. This is the best one of the season by far.

As the late great Walt Disney did before them, they engaged and made their audience cry for cartoon characters. I'm convinced at this point that Disney corporate does not understand that legacy. Disney creative, like Alex Hirsch, Matt Braly, and Dana Terrace do understand that and the thanks they get for it is chopped up release schedules and axed content. As Samuel Savory once sang, " For Shaaaaame, For SHAAAAAAAAAME!

TL;DR Luz had been through a lot and couldn't maintain her mask of happiness after everything that had happened, especially in this episode. She looked extremely tired and exhausted, both physically and mentally. Luz may be developing depression. I created a really long explanation below as to how and why, and what I saw and how I could relate to it, but it's also a lot. If it's too much to read, I understand, but it would be great to know what you would think :)
Luz is optimistic, and we see her get through each episode with a smile and a solution, but the last couple of episodes have just been hitting different for me. We see Luz getting more sad and stressed often. 2 episodes ago, it didn't conclude with Luz smiling, and this episode, it concluded with a visibly sad and exhausted optimist.
Luz is tired. Very tired. I could argue that she's developing depression, but it's not really a stretch to say that when you hold everything that has happened accountable.
She was sent to camp, but went through a magical portal to the Boiling Isles. Her 2nd mother is the most wanted woman in the Isles, therefore is being tracked 24/7. She has a curse which is very aggressive and deadly when awakened. Almost all the time, Luz goes on adventures with her, I doubt she's had a good night's sleep for a while, but she toughs it out.
Almost every day, Luz finds something that almost kills her, and if she doesn't, that thing finds her. Whether it be a dangerous spell, demons, witches, school, hell, even detention. Even after those, she's positive. School, she's learning spells and a lot of magical hoohaa , and I'm sure she feels a lot of stress since she's literally a human, and humans lack magical bile sacks. Even with her glyphs, once you learn the primary elements, from there it's hard to find the secondary spells that require specific combinations. Grom reminds her of her mother, who she feared the most because she was in a place her mother definitely would approve of. She fights it, defeats it, but the psychological pain is still pushed down. Grudgby is deadly, meeting the emperor and being thrown around like a toy couldn't have been a regular Wednesday for her, seeing her new best friend and mother almost get petrified, oh and Lilith kidnapping her, that must've been fun.
She meets her mother through her new door and is forced to promise her that she will not go back to the Boiling Isles once she comes back to the human realm. More stress, if she finds her way back, she loses the people that care about her.
Time travel, she meets Phillip, realises he's a liar, and almost becomes a sacrifice because of him. She gets a new girlfriend, which she confides in, so it's some stress taken off.
Even then, things try to kill her all the time, she keeps on beating them and coming out on top smiling, but then, her dad's anniversary comes. She cannot commemorate properly because she isn't with her mother, and so she distracts herself. She tries to help Amity, but she really just ruins the whole thing, so Amity doesn't become the champion. In frustration and sadness, she leaves both her dad and Luz because Luz had been acting weird and being dishonest. Luz realised this and went to her, and Amity hit her with how she felt and what she did. Luz had no other choice but to open up, and when she did, she was defeated, and depressed. She sugar-coated her story by smiling and using a high pitched happy voice, but we could immediately tell it was huge because of the look Amity gave her. She was seriously concerned, and felt sorry, because even if it wasn't an excuse, she was doing it all just to distract herself from the fact that she cannot be with her mother to celebrate/commemorate her dad's life. I think Amity was also shocked because she wasn't used to hearing this. I think everyone she knows in the isles has both of their parents, and them being witches, it is rare for a parent to die of an illness. Luz must've been in a lot of pain, and she was.
Luz after opening up, looked very tired. They found flowers, she successfully commemorated, but that was her crumbling point. Her day was a huge day, and she was just done. She didn't have enough optimism to keep the shine in her eyes or to smile brightly, it was just the face of a person who let it all out internally. I can relate to Luz as a person who bottles up feelings. In the end, everything comes out, either in tears, physical and mental exhaustion and general neglect. Depression does a huge deal, and I think Luz may be developing it. Dana stop hitting me in the feels 😭😭😭
Actually, I think the same. In "Oh Titan, where are thou" when she discovered Eda's plan she said "are you sending me away?" I could think that she reminded when her mom had been sending Luz to a camp and ir could hurt her so much.
There was a theory that say when the alarm when off luz say get out of my head and the reason she said that was because the alarm reminds her of the ambulance that took her dad to the hospital.
Alador’s getting a good redemption arc!
I found him incredibly relatable early on, and now he’s even more relatable: is easily distractible to a fault, even to the point of not seeming to care for his kin, but he still cares for his girl and only wants the best for her. He’s constantly nudging her in a direction that by all accounts, is going to let her live her dreams. Unfortunately such is very much NOT the case.

Imo the best episode yet. It left quite an impact and I can't get it out of my head.
I think it has a lot to do with the writing and the great performances of the VAs.
Alador is really becoming an okay guy, and I felt bad for him since he was trying to hug his daughter, but gets a handshake instead.
Don't know if y'all noticed, but the vase Camila was putting the flower in was abomination colored, just like Amity's abomination-glue! It did reach the human realm, at least in a way. :)

This show is so wholesome for so many reasons. I love seeing Luz and Amity going through some incomprehensions but also being mature enough to talk it out, to actually listen and explain. Relationship goals from these two 14 year olds, everybody. I also deeply appreciate Amity standing up for herself and not forgiving Alador nor Luz right away. She forgave Luz immediately after they cleared things out, and whilst she yearns to get back her relationship with her dad, she's (understandably so) not ready to simply forgive and forget years of abuse. I'm glad for that, even if it's simply shown by her going for a handshake while Alador was going for a hug. Kudos to Dana and the crew~
Also, can we talk about how badass Lumity was during the whole Brawl??
And yes, this episode was so full of angst that I needed to watch someone react to it as soon as I was done, to share the burden. Right in the feels

Apparently Dana lost her dad when she was fairly young, and probably put a lot of her experience dealing with that into what Luz was dealing with in this episode, since this was one she wrote herself.
This episode was amazing, I'm still crying after watching it.
This episode just messed with my emotions in two ways, first becouse it's sad, and second becouse I can relate to this situation like a lot, my dad passed away when I was 7 in January of 2012 so I can relate to it for better or worse.💔
I feel for you. I'm around the same age and my moms death anniversary just passed a couple days ago.
This episode alone proved how much of a perfectionist Odalia is just the illusion stones on the twins and her pressuring Amity to join a coven was just as bad while Alador just stayed in the background and just went along with it. But this episode gave him some to growth when he finally listened to Amity's frustrations about the entire family, and we finally got some development for Edric an Emira which was an added bonus to the whole thing!
Also you guys can't judge me on this but Alador is freaking adorable!

Honestly, in both episodes we’ve seen him in Alador has reminded me of Entrapta, but like an exhausted Entrapta. I’m glad he finally seemed to realize in this episode that he’s been a neglectful parent, and hopefully one day when Odalia is arrested for being Evil or something, Amity and the twins will have a decent parent left to live with.
Don't worry about the Grom tree I'm pretty sure it's based off a cherry blossom tree given the peddles look exactly like that of a cherry blossom tree's.

This episode had me sobbing like a child. I can relate so much with Amity's relationship with her father, but seeing Luz's hurt with her father being gone made me lose it. She kept using the excuse "it happened a while ago" and I can't count how many times I've said that with other issues. I try to use time as an excuse like I shouldn't be bothered with stuff anymore.
As much as I love Amity and Luz's relationship, I worry in some ways. This is the second time Luz has lied/kept the fact she is hurting away from Amity. I get it fits her character, because Luz is such an amazing person who always wants the best for everyone around her, but hiding her feelings from her girlfriend is concerning. Amity may have been understanding the first time (in the Follies At The Coven Day Parade episode about her trip to the human realm when she saw her mom), but this time Amity was hurt by it, and even more worried about Luz.
I'm so scared something is going to happen to their relationship.
Especially since this was literally the reason Raine broke up with Eda
I relate to luz so much tho when she said that she was jalouse or needed a distraction cuz i sometimes do get jalouse about peoples dads too. I never even knew my dad (he died when i was 2y old so i have very little memories of him + pictures) sometime i joke about it cuz its a long time ago but i always try my best to not cry for no reason at the same time idk why i still cry about it (im actually holding my tears in rn) i hate watching videos about people having fun with there dad and people who call others "fatherless" for whatever reason. I dont feel sad about it but it still makes me cry ????

I can kinda relate to Luz. Both of my parents are alive, but the only supportive and understanding relative who wanted to spend time with me, my grandpa, passed away when I was seven. And I feel so guilty for not remembering him well. Yeah, I have a few memories of him but that's still not enough

when we think abbout it, maybe amity's plant glyph symbolizes something. Something that involves her relationship with a plant magic witch... maybe that was also foreshadowing on how amity will get to work on her relationship with willow in the coming episodes. i just really live willow and her stare while amity was braiding her hair really shows how shes still hurt from amitys actions towards her years ago

My mom passed in 2010 when I was a young kid, so the ending of the episode hit close to home

I am going to write a comment about expectations since you talked about it at the end of the video. I agree with not forcing your dreams onto your child, or high expectations of what you want them to do in life. Realising that you aren't going to live up to your parents' expectations is so difficult to accept, because you're so afraid that you're going to disappoint them. I was going to rant a little, but I'll save everyone from that, haha.

I think that the way that Amity really wants to stick up for herself and tell her parents to back of let me do what I want is how we all feel about ourselves and don't take crap from anyone sticking up for herself is always the right thing to do.
