    New to C2 here.
Is this how some of the weapons are supposed to be played? As in primarily using one variation of attack such as the Overhead in this video.

Welcome and thanks for watching:) The answer to your question is yes and no and depends on context. In short, I use the strongest move a weapon has most of the time. If I am caught out in a 1v1 then I mix things up to catch my opponent off guard.
Here’s the long answer. There is a ton of nuance.
Some weapons have very strong types of attacks which are optimal to use. Eg. Spears with overhead stabs, longsword with stabs, hammers in general with swings or overheads only, maul with specials. It makes sense to use those attacks as your primary moves as they deal the most damage.
In team objective modes horizontal slashes are good against groups of enemies as crowd control. Stabs and overheads are preferable when you have teammates nearby to prevent team damage. They are also more effective in tight spaces when using long weapons.
In 1v1 fights or when playing in duelling servers it makes sense to mix your attacks up to keep your opponents guessing. A mixture of feints and different attacks with catch them off guard.
Also, light attacks are good to finish off weakened enemies. Heavy attacks are better to take out opponents in fewer blows. The timings are different for each which can catch opponents off guard. Combined with swing manipulations you can really slow down or speed up attacks to throw off enemies or get attacks around their blocks.
To find out how to optimally use your weapon simply give it a try in game to see what attacks deal the most damage, have the greatest reach, or are the fastest. There are tons of guides on youtube too. I think there’s a community website called polehammer something that I haven’t checked out myself. My favourite move to spam are maul specials to one shot most classes on headshot.
      Anyway hope that helps :)
