I'm pretty certain that the R5 never line skips, instead it pixel bins. Line skipping is easily testable with power lines, etc, and I havent seen any footage that suggests that's what it does.
so let’s get this straight, for years everyone criticized canon for “crippling” the video in their cameras by cropping. canon said it’s to avoid overheating and still everyone complained. now they went ahead and didn’t crop it and it’s now overheating as they said it would and everyone is talking about the overheating like it’s something new??? c’mon guys.
@@testthewest123 The A7S III doesn't do 8K 30 (most people don't need 8K) or any internal RAW capture. It isn't even a stills camera. The R5 is a better all around camera for "hybrid" photographers. It has a solid resolution, great AF, good FPS with high speed shooting, and a bigger grip than anything Sony can offer. That being said, Sony does not make bad cameras.
yeah, I'm wondering the same thing! I was really disappointed in it. I'm going to see if I can tune the AF behavior, but that was WAY too jerky. It's like they sped up the AF for stills but gave up the smooth video AF we loved.
I think the lens mounted on it has got a lot of focus breathing, hence it makes any change of focus very noticeable; other than that it doesn't look like "hunting" to me, it's just Tony moving.
Yeah I'm super interested to know more about it! I mean it still looks really good compared to most video AF out there but not smooth like the previous generation. Maybe it's stressed by the 4K/60? A test would be interesting in 4K/30 or 1080P/60. I noticed the only scenario where my M50 hunts is strong backlighting, so maybe it has something to do with that also.
@@petersagi275 I have been thinking about it. I guess the distance from Tony to the lens was at the DoF borderline for the f-stop. If he had positioned himself back or forward slightly the lens might have stopped "pulsing"
Tony, are you saying the R6 is sharper than the A7Siii? Which produces a better video image? I'm leaning heavily toward the R6, because of the photography aspect. Thank you.
Whatever other stuff, I need to give it to sony for the simple fact they do LISTEN. ever since R4 they've been redesigning stuff relative to feedbacks like body and wheel locks. Now a real articulated screen and touch menu operations. You can see they're in the channel listening for improvements. I do no video stuff so these are just adding up to the GAS for me for future models. The next two things I really wish they work on is mark II of some of those GM lenses and maybe a firmware to have all the models utilize shutter to protect sensor during lens change or something similar, though this is questionable as I heard shutter is much more fragile than sensor.(if you touch sensor accidentally you may still be saved possibly, but if you touched the shutter that is pretty much doomed.) or some other measure to prevent dust spots. Imagine A7R5 with 80mp, Mark 2 GM lenses, best EVF ever, fully articulate screen, touch operation, more dynamic range. I'm pretty much set for life.
You are the first person to say the r6 has better video, that is confusing. Everyone else says the r6 has worse 4k than the r5 so how can that even be?
The MMI shoe has been on all the Sony A7 cameras since at least the A7S Mk I (also FS7, FS5, etc.). We use the Sony dual lav system all the time and have used it on every generation of A7 camera.
What lens are you using on the R6 to film the video? The focus breathing looks horrendous (maybe the jerkiness disappears if you use a lens with less focus breathing?).
It's the 50mm f1.2. We use it all the time on the R and RP and the focusing is fine... The R6's focusing is just really jerky. I'm going to see if I can tune it.
@@TonyAndChelsea I see. Does Canon even allow AF speed and sensitivity tuning on face-tracking autofocus? Historically (at least on the lower-end bodies) they have limited those customizations to single-point video AF.
The microphone with no cable does look really nice. What microphone would be good to pair with the A7SIII? Ordered one, but i have a Rode mic right now.
I've taken long exposure Neowise pictures and time-lapses with my A7mk1 and Fuji XT100 every chance I get, and here you are getting better images with the live view on the A7s3 ! lol To say I want one would be an understatement.
Yeah, I think for video it shines in lowlight, but for astrophotography the R5 probably does a great job, especially because you'll likely be doing long exposures, where Sony has the advantage in lowlight in short exposures (for video).
Good morning. Excellent video. The comet is pretty nuts. I currently own an R6 and felt the video was soft compared to Sony A7SIII/FX3, so thats all in my mind? 😂 I’m just trying to find the best video camera with slow motion features and doesn’t shutoff in the middle of a job like my R6 has.
i love that you showed neowise in this, to me that's one of the big big wins of this camera is the low light capablities , also regarding the HEIC files, iphone has been using this for their 'raw' files/live photos for some time, i can edit mine in lightroom just fine
I currently have a Sony a6300 and I’m looking for the best Sony camera with a nice combo of quality photo/video. Would you recommend this camera? I’m more on the photography side... Thanks
Larger pixels typically equates to better dynamic range and over all image quality. I'm interested in the images this camera actually produces. I couldn't careless about specs on paper. That said $3,500 seems over the top for the spec list, but the final images may be worth it.
Someone suggested me this video, Im glad I watched it. I wrote on a Sony A7s III video that canon R6 is a competitor not R5. As it has less megapixel that means more sensitive to light and can do only 4k. Thanks for doing this. Would love the see outtoor day and night video comparison between the Canon R6 and Sony A7s III
Will the Nikon z6 still be your studio video shooter? When all is said and done is Z6 still competitive for a combo of every day shooting stills and video?
And next year a Nikon will come out and you will say, "I want that!!" The camera manufacturers love folks like you, though preferably ones with the money to follow through!! Meanwhile, there are photographers and videographers out there creating beautiful content with ten year old gear laughing all the way to the bank.
@@alansach8437 Not nikon, not because they are bad or something, kind of didnt fit with me, also I am still not accustomed with the menu and terminology of it.
A quick correction: 9 million dots, not pixels. 9 million dots ≈ 3 million pixels ≈ 1440p Edit: did some calculations and assuming the EVF display has an aspect ratio of 4:3, the exact resolution of the display should be 2048 x 1536 pixels. That's a pixel density of 4000 PPI.
Please compare the a7sIII w/ a7rIV in regard to low light & dynamic range (photos/videos). I also want to know if I can pull off landscape shots with only 12MP. I REALLY want that extra low light & dynamic range with that tilty flippy screen ... but that 12MP .... ugh
Can't wait for your review of the R5 for stills - always saw this camera as cutting edge stills with bonus of video features for limited applications. So I need to know that the R5, for Canon lovers, beats Sony and avoids a switch to Sony and that menu, Buffer issue, ergonomics, noise at low light!! I am all in for the R5 and will go with 24-105R, 15-35, 70-200 and 100-500 lenses with battery grip for balance. I will keep my 300mm and 500mm primes and wait to see if the 100-500 is good enough to shed the load!
I see everyone comparing the r5 and r6 4K with the Sony. What about 1080? There are many reasons to shoot 1080 still. How is the overheating on the canon then? How do the two compare?
I'm not surprised at all. The R6 is down sampling from a higher quality source. That's also why it overheats. It's all trade offs when it comes to engineering.
@@siyangqiu1I'd love to see some good old GH5 footage in comparison to the R6. I think it will look even better, because it downsamples from a higher pixel-count. (Not at high ISO of course.)
VERY interesting. I've been a longtime Canon guy, so I've been rooting for the R6 but figured the Sony would smoke it. Glad to see that it looks like I can justify an R6 purchase.
You might want to go back and watch this again. The R6 he was filming with was awfully warpy at times. Tony would be in awesome focus, but the background kept moving in and out. Especially towards the end. Almost Lumixesque. Or maybe I just need to stop drinking before I watch these.
R6 is not useable for any kind of professional serious work. No need to go over it, but everyone by now agrees you can't rely on it due to overheating issues that are totally unpredictable.
I would love to know the image quality of the A7S III versus the A7S II in very low light conditions. Any chance you could do side-by-side footage? I shoot concerts and the light is always terrible and the motion fast. I have the A7S II but don’t know if it’s worth upgrading.
except it overheats quicker than any other camera, and once it does , you have no 4K option at all (not even "shit 4k" like the R5). Also doesnt record to 2 card slots, so thats any professional that needs it out of the window (wedding videographers, etc)
@@cbflazaro It really depends on your workflow. I couldn't care less about the heat problems. Also, no real professional camera (Alexa and Red) records in 2 card slots, are those not "pro" cameras?. Just create with what you have.
I’m confused about something on Canon’s side and maybe I could get a straight answer. If you wanted to shoot a wedding for example with Canon, which camera(s) would you use? The 5D Mk4 is reliable but old, the EOS RP is a base full frame, the EOS R has its troubles but better since the firmware update. Now with the R6 and R5, they both overheat, and from what I hear with the R5 you could shoot pictures for a whole day but when you switch to video mode, it can overheat which looks unprofessional on your end. So what do you shoot with if you have to go with Canon? The R?
Hon Kei Ma Well going back to the wedding example, say for instance you’re only hired to do skills. That’s set, everything’s good but the groom at the reception wants to take some video of a speech that he’s gonna do. It was discussed that you would only do stills but this is something that he would really want to have, again, hypothetical. The speech it’s going to be about 10 to 20 minutes. Now you’ve been taking pictures with your camera all day, and we know the newer cameras don’t have an overheating issue with stills, but if you wanted to do a video and it could be the base level for whatever the video settings are for the newer Canon cameras, can they take that? Because of the camera overheats that’s money it could be affecting. That’s why I ask if it’s better to just go with the EOS R.
@@billybattleI am speaking wedding only. Set up a tripod with a camcorder to do the video or ask your friend to do it for you. From what I see, in a wedding, there is always 1 photographer, and 1 for video. If you hire 1 person, he will do 1 job only. I never saw a photographer do both video and photography at the same time, and I don't think it will end well. Anyway, EOS R5 has 2 4K modes that won't overheat. The basic 4K30 and the crop 4K30. that's already better than EOS R.
@@TonyAndChelsea It has to be a sensitivity and speed setting thing. Look at the video Philip Bloom posted about the Fuji XT4 auto focus settings. It made a HUGE difference tweaking them just a couple of notches.
Not the first time he messes up something himself and throws a tantrum "done with it". Such an ignorant and amateur way of handling stuff. Credibility=zero.
Question - Can't you just slow the video down in post? Why is 120fps so important if you have the option to do it in post? Purely inquiring as I've done wedding video but not a ton. So to me if I can just do it real quick in post then whats the big deal about not having 120fps?
So after watching both Jared and Tony and every other person reviewing the two cameras Canon vs Sony I saw two things over and over. 1st The Canon Over Heats and Sony doesn't 2nd is the Canon R6 Beats the 4k 60 quality in the Sony and the R5 Kills when using the 8k file as far as image quality. So in the end I really am leaning to the Canon side at the end of the day all limitations aside image quality is the point of a good camera. Kudos Canon welcome to the game.
What lens are you using in this video Tony? The focus breathing is something savage. I have never really noticed it in any other videos but I was in this video
How's the audio on this a7s III, or any of the a7 series? I play acoustic guitar and have been looking for the right digital camera to record home sessions. Currently using a Rode NT4 stereo mic plugged directly into a Sony a57 to capture the guitar sound. The HD video quality is passable, but the preamp on the a57 kinda sucks for audio. Recommendations?
Agree. 12 megapixels are low.. R5 is awesome and people bag the over heating. But for photos great. Sony great video! Lacking megapixels lol. R6 happy medium. Price etc. Now.... do I wait for the next camera so they perfect it. High megapixels plus 8k. :/
Hi, now r5 is here and what z your thoughts about a7r4? I’m debating b/w a7r4 vs r5. The only thing I don’t like about a7r4 is the lack of touch screen, articulated screen and lack of multiple raw formats, which are all in r5 with I believe almost close to Sony in eye tracking too. But glasses for r5 ridiculously prized. Being a7s3 announced with all these features, I believe it is best in investing in a7r4 for future proof. What is your thoughts b/w these cameras? I don’t care about video features at all? Thanks in advance.
Canon listened too. Canon users told them they were tired of being laughed at and canon said.. we hear you. How does 8k sound?! And the canon users were thrilled. “Canon is back.” They forgot that functionality is as important as the function itself.
i have one confusion..Will R6 heat up if I record smaller clips,,3-5 minutes long for an hour or so and heat only if i record 4k 60 "continuously" for half an hour
This is my only question. If I can shoot 1-2 minute clips over and over I will get the R6, but if I can only shoot 1-2 minute clips 10 times, then it isn't usable.

Hi Tony, There is a "new ultrasonic anti-dust system" on the a7siii - a filter in front of the image sensor oscillates at an ultrasonic frequency of 70,000 cycles per second to remove dust from the sensor surface. One of your 5 main issues with the sony a7r4 was the dust, is this an improvement? Will it (or does it) actually decreases sony sensor dust? Thanks
@@marcellkovacs5452 unfortunately the A7rIV is already out. Maybe the A7rV? For the only reason I haven't gotten an Sony is due to it's memory buffering issues. Now that the A7sIII has adopted the CF Express format, there is hope now.
I'm wondering about the 4K comparison with the R5: How does the R5 "high quality" option compare to the Sony? In some of their videos Canon explained that this uses a downsampling algorithm from the full sensor that in effect allows each pixel to be "compiled" from each color, rather than the standard debayering techniques?
Who are these people that switch camera companies with the introduction of each new camera? They must be great at relationships! ;-) (Oo! Does this comment make me a troll?)

Great review! Thanks a lot! We'd like to use the A7S III to shoot whole day live events. Would you assume (or did you test) that 7-8 hrs continous indoor shooting might be possible without overheating?
This camera is specifically for video and low light. The "s" stands for sensitivity. If they added megapixels you would lose sensitivity, increase rolling shutter, and have to do some down-scaling or cropping from the sensor to get your final video image. If you are a videographer, any pixels on the sensor beyond what you need for 4k on a 4k camera will only hurt you The A7iii or A7Riv is designed to fit the needs of someone who isn't specifically shooting just (or mostly) video.
You guys are correct, it's focus is not photography. I am into photography, and not video, however, video is something I want to get into. And I have to admit, the A7S iii video is out-of-this-world good. Maybe I could buy both? Can't afford both, unfortunately.
We really like the Sigma MC-11 adapter on our other Sony cameras (it hasn't yet been updated for the a7S III). It works almost as good as using native Canon bodies.
Canon would be smart to upgrade the R6 with 4K 120FPS. If they did that, the only remaining limitation of the R6 (compared to the Sony) would be overheating / record time limit.
Really confused wheter that i should buy r6 + kit for my college startup (nb, my father is an old canon photograper and had a lot of gen 1 L lenses since 2003) or maybe i should turn to sony and save more for the 16-35 OSS Z lens. Any advise? (Curently using 700d as main cam since 2016)
Question, the Sony looks sharper in 4K at 60fps at 7:31, but does it not look like it has more noise (on the TV monitor in the shot)? Obviously the A7siii is way better in low light with less megapixels, but found this frame interesting.
yes and no,.. 12MP is enough for A4 prints with 300dpi,.. and Web. If you wanna print wall-size art,.. even 24MP is not gonna cut it. Really the difference between 12MP and 20MP is in reality much smaller than on the paper. That been said I shoot Sony ARIV and so far loving resolution, low light performance not so much; if I'm not careful with the exposure underexposed area comes with a lot of noise. I never had those issues with Sony A7III. So why I'm saying this, noise in the photo is subjectivly lowering the resolution and objectively usable data on the photo, In low light situations,.. Sony A7SIII can have more usable data than Sony A7III even though sensor has 2x more pixels.
I wouldn't use it for stills as well. But there's an enormous market for cinematographers who will buy this camera. That market may be even bigger than photography market. And cinematographers doesn't really care about pictures and even if they do take a picture once in a while, that 12mpx is fine for them, since it's only for social media.

Could you please make a comparison of panning movement with those cameras? A simple smooth 180º movement. It is my impression that the R5 tends to skip frames or stutter with movement, and the a7SIII seems smoother, and a simple regular pan seems the best way to test this issue in cameras.

I'm pretty certain that the R5 never line skips, instead it pixel bins. Line skipping is easily testable with power lines, etc, and I havent seen any footage that suggests that's what it does.
Good point, plus Tony has been mainly speculating on that part in two videos lately.
Then it would overheat more at 4k than at 8k as it would have to do much more maths. It pixel bins at 4k 30, line skips above that.
Another "hold my beer" moment ..
Lol
Does it shoot 250fps as rumored?
Yes. 240 FPS at 1080p
so let’s get this straight, for years everyone criticized canon for “crippling” the video in their cameras by cropping. canon said it’s to avoid overheating and still everyone complained. now they went ahead and didn’t crop it and it’s now overheating as they said it would and everyone is talking about the overheating like it’s something new??? c’mon guys.
Well, people wanted Canon to fix their shit and not crop AND not overheat. I mean: sony is doing it right here, so it can be done.
testthewest123 the fact still remains
Keagan De Villiers Dumb corporate move!
That being said, Sony does not make bad cameras.
testthewest123 Yeah, Sony is doing it here… WITH A TWELVE MEGAPIXEL CAMERA. 🤦🏻♂️ That 1:1 readout is entirely the key.
Why the focus on video? What's it like as a stills camera? £3800 in the UK for 12M stills is mental.
its very good in low light conditions, so stargazing, night wildlife etc.....
What up with the crazy r6 focus hunting... never saw this on the eos R...
yeah, I'm wondering the same thing!
@@TonyAndChelsea The focus hunting is distracting.. Please switch to a different camera next time.
I've taken long exposure Neowise pictures and time-lapses with my A7mk1 and Fuji XT100 every chance I get, and here you are getting better images with the live view on the A7s3 ! lol To say I want one would be an understatement.
based on the r5 vs a7s3 at 6:54 seems Canon's color has more magenta. is it true?
Please test the Sony a7S III as an astrophotography camera, as this is one of the areas it is aimed at!
Sadly its only 12mp. At least 24mp wouldve been great for astrophotography.
It’s a lowlight camera meant for video, not really Astro
Yeah, I think for video it shines in lowlight, but for astrophotography the R5 probably does a great job, especially because you'll likely be doing long exposures, where Sony has the advantage in lowlight in short exposures (for video).
Evan Morton Unless your cropping are printing bigger than a poster it literally won’t matter
Thanks
Hopefully Sony is working on a A74 and will have some of these same features with a 24mp sensor ...I'm holding off.
Everyone just waited 5 years for this release and you're going to wait another 2? Haha.
Larger pixels typically equates to better dynamic range and over all image quality. I'm interested in the images this camera actually produces. I couldn't careless about specs on paper. That said $3,500 seems over the top for the spec list, but the final images may be worth it.
I think the A74 will do the new 4K60 H265 10bit codec at 100mbit
Hangover Chilly but doubling the resolution will give so much more sharpness in stills.
A74 is at the very least still 2 years out..
It's a definitely better video camera in terms of quality, overheating and workflow. It really got it all. Waiting for the a7IV now!!!
Will the Nikon z6 still be your studio video shooter? When all is said and done is Z6 still competitive for a combo of every day shooting stills and video?
Whan the R6 came out, i am like, i want that! and when the a7SIII, i am like, I want this, not that. But, i know I am not getting either of those..lol
Same im going to stick to my 5d4 for now
Go for R5/R6
Maybe in 10 years when its like $400
And next year a Nikon will come out and you will say, "I want that!!" The camera manufacturers love folks like you, though preferably ones with the money to follow through!!
9 million dots ≈ 3 million pixels ≈ 1440p
Edit: did some calculations and assuming the EVF display has an aspect ratio of 4:3, the exact resolution of the display should be 2048 x 1536 pixels. That's a pixel density of 4000 PPI.
Please compare the a7sIII w/ a7rIV in regard to low light & dynamic range (photos/videos). I also want to know if I can pull off landscape shots with only 12MP.
I REALLY want that extra low light & dynamic range with that tilty flippy screen ... but that 12MP .... ugh
So Sony A7SIII is better for Astrophotography, videography, and low light photography? Cannon R5/R6 better general all around camera?
How do the two compare?
damn, the R6 vs A7S3 is mind blowing !!!
The R6 is just looking better and better as a "cheap" overall option.
The only problem being that's it's not actually cheap...
@@rod4eva Hence the quotation marks
except it overheats quicker than any other camera, and once it does , you have no 4K option at all (not even "shit 4k" like the R5).
Also doesnt record to 2 card slots, so thats any professional that needs it out of the window (wedding videographers, etc)
@@itzamna3080 lol I got you
@@cbflazaro It really depends on your workflow.
The R?
I never saw a photographer do both video and still at the same time.
Why is the zoom/focus of the canon jumping so much in the video? Is that a regular problem of the canon? Looks realy bad.
It's my first time using the R6 like this and I DID NOT like it. I'm going to see if there are AF settings I can tweak, otherwise, I'm done with it.
its focus breathing
@@TonyAndChelsea It has to be a sensitivity and speed setting thing. Look at the video Philip Bloom posted about the Fuji XT4 auto focus settings. It made a HUGE difference tweaking them just a couple of notches.
@@TonyAndChelsea what lens were you using on the R6? Curious if it was an RF or an adapted EF
The lens is the 50 f1.2, but it's the camera's fault. The R6 was real jumpy. The R and RP never have that problem with this lens.
The R6 is struggggggling with focus.
Jordan at DPReview knows more about that than I do
Wow! So the real competitor is the Canon R6, no one saw that coming!
My R6 money just turned into A7Siii money. What can I sell around here haha.
There are two differences between canon and sony. one: sony cameras are better. two: Sony listens to what the people want.
Canon listened too. Canon users told them they were tired of being laughed at and canon said.. we hear you. How does 8k sound?! And the canon users were thrilled. “Canon is back.” They forgot that functionality is as important as the function itself.
Wow, that R6's AF is so damn fast the focus breathing is getting distracting, but it stays perfectly on Tony's eyes o_O
Looks like a lens issue more than anything to me.
focus breathing most likely relates to lense
Which is actually really funny since Tony said he disliked recording with a7 III because it's apparently hunting.
i have one confusion..Will R6 heat up if I record smaller clips,,3-5 minutes long for an hour or so and heat only if i record 4k 60 "continuously" for half an hour

Thanks
Damn, so close, they finally addressed the file transfer speeds as Sony has adopted the CFExpress format, but as a stills camera it's not as good.

Not really. For example the R6 has the overheating problem and a lot more noticeable rolling shutter.
This video confirmed what i needed to know. I’m sticking with my R6 I’m in a small percentage that this is just perfect for my professional needs
Propably the the percentage of people who the r6 fits is way higher than this Sony as it is really one of the best stills cameras which a7siii is really not at all due its low megapixel count. It is essentially just a videocamera.
thank you for a good over look on them I look forward the stills , I would jump at the R6 if I did feel its a step down from the EOS-R in pixels and top mode display , ( sometimes it is the little things )
Great review! Thanks a lot! We'd like to use the A7S III to shoot whole day live events. Would you assume (or did you test) that 7-8 hrs continous indoor shooting might be possible without overheating?
I'm in the market for a high-end mirrorless DSLR, and I would not pay $3500 or so for a 12 megapixel camera, no matter how good the video.
this camera is not for you lol
Are you more into video or photo?
This camera is specifically for video and low light. The "s" stands for sensitivity. If they added megapixels you would lose sensitivity, increase rolling shutter, and have to do some down-scaling or cropping from the sensor to get your final video image. If you are a videographer, any pixels on the sensor beyond what you need for 4k on a 4k camera will only hurt you
The A7iii or A7Riv is designed to fit the needs of someone who isn't specifically shooting just (or mostly) video.
You guys are correct, it's focus is not photography. I am into photography, and not video, however, video is something I want to get into. And I have to admit, the A7S iii video is out-of-this-world good. Maybe I could buy both? Can't afford both, unfortunately.
And with Topaz Video Enhance AI, upscaling to 8k (works very, very well), maybe the A7S iii wouldn't be so bad, megapixel-wise.
so the better value is the r6 or do I save more and get the a7sIII my end game is a cinema camera like the Red Komodo or C500MII
That R6 is pretty impressive.
For $$$$ cost of A7S iii ... we could buy an EOS R6 + almost 2/3 refurbished EOS R !!!

Question, the Sony looks sharper in 4K at 60fps at 7:31, but does it not look like it has more noise (on the TV monitor in the shot)? Obviously the A7siii is way better in low light with less megapixels, but found this frame interesting.
I need good hybrid camera. Canon R6 20mpx it's on the low side for me but 12pmx definitely not enough for any photography work.
yes and no,..
You can actually get a decent 20x30 print with a 12MP image. It’ll be 120DPI but at normal viewing distance that’s fine.
I wouldn't use it for stills as well. But there's an enormous market for cinematographers who will buy this camera. That market may be even bigger than photography market. And cinematographers doesn't really care about pictures and even if they do take a picture once in a while, that 12mpx is fine for them, since it's only for social media.
Man .. 12 mp would have me feeling like time travel back to my old point and shoot Canon powershot
@@PaganiTypeR I think there are more people who want both. When I take my daughter to the zoo I reach for my Canon 5d mark III, but then I say to myself, I want to shoot some video. I then grab my GH5. I don't want to have to carry two bodies to the places I hope to capture. I want great stills and good video.
Can you transfer video wirelessly to your phone with the A7Siii?
Canon: we have two new cameras! ...Sony: I’m about to end this man’s whole careeer
As a photography camera never lol
What are you supposed to do with 12megapixels?
@@xGLITCHESx A7R3 or A7R4 will beat the R5 in photography. Considering you can buy 2XA7R3 and A7S3 for the price of 2X R5, the sony seems like the better deal
Chris P take photos for web, social media, 8x10s etc.
@@cbflazaro plz try to beat it- u will lose the game and u got 0
Very cool intro! Thanks for all of the recent camera release videos - very much appreciate the time, effort and insights - very helpful!
I predict this 0.90x magnification EVF to be the most underrated spec of this camera.
Yeah a world class EVF on a video-centric camera, the videographers will probably spend more time with it on a gymbal setup than up to their eyes...
That pertains only to a particular focal length. Or maybe I misunderstanding something. Tony said that when you look into it you see a wide image, which would be important.
People are missing the entire world of creative photography that’s opened up to be able to see comets in the sky, not have to drag lights out with you, light someone’s face with something as simple as a phone at night. The creativity possibilities are endless. And I won’t need to crop because the money I save on the lenses will enable me to buy a 70 to 200 grandmaster as well a trinity of primes (35, 55, 90 macro). I’ve had both cameras (A7sii and A7rii and they both shoot great pics)
Too late Sony, R5 preorder is active
Good choise 👍👍👍
Could you please make a comparison of panning movement with those cameras? A simple smooth 180º movement. It is my impression that the R5 tends to skip frames or stutter with movement, and the a7SIII seems smoother, and a simple regular pan seems the best way to test this issue in cameras.
R6 for the win again.
Tony - Any comparisons with the Canon R5 4K HQ MODE ?? - Apparently the 4K HQ mode is higher quality 4K than the Sony A7SIII ??
They're pretty similar, but HQ mode is only 30 fps.
@@TonyAndChelsea The R5 4K HQ mode (oversampled) - supports 24,25,30p - curious how much of a difference there is.. appreciate your reviews + look forward to more ! :)
Dan Watson got the Sony to overheat outdoors in the sun in Florida recording 4k60. It happened in 23 minutes. He had the R5 and the XT-4 going all on the same test and the Sony was the first to drop. Pretty surprising.
Hmm, did he have the overheat protection feature turned off? The guys at Sony told me to turn it off. I'll follow-up with him.
@@TonyAndChelsea He didn't specify. It is his comparison of the R5 and A7sII video. It was designed to be a short video so some of the some of details on the testing were missing. He did record the temperatures for each camera. Thanks!
@@TonyAndChelsea The Sony overheated coz it was in between two cameras, which were also hot. The passive system won't work as well when it's in between 2 hot objects i.e. overheating cameras. The results most likely would have been different if the cameras had been further apart.
@@tm4651 from a thermal dynamics perspective, that makes zero sense. Were the other cameras so blazing hot that they radiated massive amounts of ambient heat?
@@tm4651 Lame excuse..
OMG what's happening with cameras in 2020 July!! I cant either buy R5 R6 or S3 but its a pleasure watching Tony presenting them !!
