Sorry you had to go through that. Great of you to point out how important the spacing between the seated converter and flex plate is when installing a new converter! Even a new converter should be flushed before installation to remove anything left in there from the factory. Great video.

Thanks for showing that to us, Dan. Unfortunately, at the moment I do not have any projects that I'm working on.

you always shove converter into trans back out 1/8th to 3/16th and add washers if gap remains to flex plate mounting

Yes. I have done that a few times. It can get it lined up better. I completely failed to check this one for end play. I screwed myself.

You would have to define what better means. Better for performance? Better for fuel mileage? Etc.

Will mineral spirits damage the clutch material in the converter?

I highly doubt it would damage anything but I’m not a trans expert, just an idiot working in his garage. Maybe ask a Trans shop or expert.

Will small amounts and traces of mineral spirits impact the quality of the fluid (in my case CVT fluid), or do you have to do a final rinse with gasoline, and maybe a sacrificial quart of CVT fluid?

I do t know about CVT fluid. I think the sacrifical quart would be a great idea and peace of mind.
