  • It's so awesome to finally be able to bring you a lift tour of what was my local shopping centre back when I lived in the UK.

    I never knew how different lifts could be, it's quite fascinating. Thanks for educating us.

    I believe the Broadway Shopping Centre car park lifts were originally Express lifts before they were replaced

      Yes, as I was riding them I got the vibe that they might be Express, or maybe something similar. We've still got a lot of Express lifts in New Zealand, so I am familiar with the designs.

    By the looks of things, there used to be a Next, did it have a lift?

      I left the UK to live in New Zealand in 2007 as a mere 9-year-old and have only been back twice since, so I cannot give any indication, as I did not develop my interest in lifts until after moving to NZ.

      @@the_alex_ellis_channel6923 Ok. It's now an H Samuel, so the lift has either been removed, is locked off or Next was only on one level. It's a very small unit so it was likely that it was only on one level but I'll continue to ask other people if they know anything about it.

      @@karwantofeq1549 It used to be an old Evans though so it's sad because it used to be a rare lift.

    Any ideas what the M&S lift was before replacement?

    • @the_alex_ellis_channel6923
      @the_alex_ellis_channel6923  3 года назад +1

      Well, the M&S lift was replaced before I emigrated to New Zealand, likely circa 2005-6, so at this time I would have been around 7-8 years old. Back in those days I was also terrified of lifts (believe it or not), so never went inside the original one. All I can remember was that it had smooth, beige-painted doors (centre-open) with a small rectangle window in each door. It was likely a similar size and shape to the one that is there now. I can't give any more details than that since we're talking more than 15 years ago and I was still very young at the time.

      @@the_alex_ellis_channel6923 Very interesting info. I think a lot of lift enthusiasts started out being scared of lifts to be honest. Regarding this lift, the small rectangular windows could suggest Furse. I wonder how much of the lift was replaced during the modernisation.

      @@MichalM I have myself wondered if it could've been Furse, since I know quite a lot of M&S stores had Furse lifts.
