Last time I found ~20 year old sheet music it was an orphaned viola part from a string quartet I wrote freshman year, the other 3 parts had been lost to time and/or a shoebox in the back of the cellist's closet. Though it was a fun exercise to try recreating the rest of the instruments without changing the viola part at all, using that part and half a memory of how it originally went.
Such a good point about the lead sheet. I used to be a regular at a Jazz basement spot in London (Hi Paul at the Spice of Life!) where it was definitely a music education, especially watching groups of musicians, who might never have played together before often being handed lead sheets by a singer on the spot, and basically just playing the song. No tabs, rehearsals, or discussions. Just great musicians who knew their craft, and understood what they were doing, and what the singer wanted. This level of musicianship i have rarely encountered outside of the Jazz world.
Re the Song itself... sounds like when you were writing it, the first half, which flows nicely and naturally, led you to the point where you wanted a modulation, but that got away with you and it lost its way somewhat, not helped by probably shoe-horning in that particular lick you mentioned. Always good to come back to stuff one did as one's younger self, to see how one's knowledge and taste has changed over the years! 😃
this is my favorite kind of video, explaining what you were/are thinking, why what works works and why what does not work does not and how to "fix it" in different ways.
It does give off anime opening vibes so I won’t deny that but it especially makes me think that I’m out at a fancy restaurant on a date and some nice jazz is playing in the background, definitely dig it even though I’m not that great at jazz myself lol
I felt like I was transported to an artisan coffee house and sipping of a chai latte with the original composition, top tier lounge music 😊 The drum and bass was much more walking to work getting into boss mode vibes 🤌🏻
Dude, I've given a lot of my eye-hole and hear-hole time to fuckin' RUclips in the last 10 years. I gotta say you've really done some shit to hit the top of my list in the much less than 10 years I've been consuming your tasty jams, sexy streams and other video vittles. Thanks for the things and stuff. Also, I'd love to do those 50 push-ups, but I am unable to can. So I won't. But I will in spirit. With great honor.
Awesome, thanks for taking the course! Well, there's rarely an easy way to do anything in art, but you can totally apply it to what you've already written - if you're willing to be ruthless with it and not precious. If you're too attached to what you've got, then it's better to start with new material. Otherwise, take stock of what you've written, objectively as you can, and replace words with better ones, remove filler and cliches, move things to rhyme better, and find better and more interesting ways to say the same things you're saying. Good luck!
If we connect we do. This spicy meatball , I am not ok with this lack of reality. Nevermind notes. I am your ultimate drummer while inhave the ultimate singer. We no spring chikens. Trey will never love his chat
i LIKE THE MAIN LICK MOTIF. tHE REST NO SO MUCH. The fast tempo DNB is kinda naughty. TO many notes. as a famous king once said that was later hung. The main lick though is legit and solid. Over all a polite Coffee House jam. Well done! Earned my FOllow for real:) I think I can learn a few things from you!

Stellar video editing! You're a true entertainer! Love the tune!

Hey, I remember you working on this on Twitch stream the other day! This turned out awesome!
Dude, I seriously love your content! Damn! True musician, genuine vibey person! 💯
Very cool. I liked the direction you took it. As always....life doesn't suck!
Beautiful.
2:52 Reading music! It seems like black magic but opens so many opportunities when one learns
that's a crazy piece of music Trey! Kinda no wonder you didnt remember any of it...very abstract. That's Jazz for ya!
Thats fire
That “Gimme the jazz” part made me do a spit take! Haha
A small part reminded me of the theme for "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" LOL.
This 20 year old song never knew who its father was until now... And now its out for revenge!
It does give off anime opening vibes so I won’t deny that but it especially makes me think that I’m out at a fancy restaurant on a date and some nice jazz is playing in the background, definitely dig it even though I’m not that great at jazz myself lol
Ending on that stutter... epic man!
B section harmonies remind me of NES games like Bionic Commando (chich I loved).
I felt like I was transported to an artisan coffee house and sipping of a chai latte with the original composition, top tier lounge music 😊
The drum and bass was much more walking to work getting into boss mode vibes 🤌🏻
That new version really reminds me of Cardiacs. Just a lot less chaotic...
The came out pretty sick!
Great video. Always great to watch guitarists try and sight read music. 😂 you did very well.

Thanks, I appreciate that! I can't do 50 either haha
Yayyyy new Trey vid
Very cool, Trey!
That was sick! I heard some Orbital vibes in there.
That is some gangster jazz morphing and manipulation. Awesome song.
Sounds like Anime? nah. F-Zero? YES!
NOW you're speaking my language
Jazz!
I believe the triplets still haven't found their home there. Nice video!
Also... Stay awesome!
someone was listening to charlie brown christmas - Skating shortly before they wrote this melody.
I've never heard it before but I just went and listened now and there are some STRIKING similarities haha
Hey Trey, just finished your lyric course. Is there a way to easily apply the lessons in the lyric course to lyrics that I have already written?

Been waiting for this to drop!
Hi Trey, I know that your songwriting course goes on sale occasionally, I was just wondering if any sales were coming up in the near future?
If you complete my Riff to Song Challenge, you might be pleasantly surprised when you get to the end: bit.ly/RTSCHALLENGE
Ahora la versión metal !
Dude wheres the new In Virtue album?! Please?! 😃😃
Someone get Adam Neely on the phone NOW!
sounds like Steven Wilson reimagined the Megaman soundtrack. I mean that in both the best and worst way at the same time.
Christmas song! Christmas song! 🙋♂
I played it backwards and the lick ended up being The Lick.
If I did one of my songs from 20 years ago it would sound like Primus meets Nine Inch Nails
I mean, I could get on board with that hahaha
Also a Berklee guy, strongly agree on the insufferable part. 😄
If we connect we do. This spicy meatball , I am not ok with this lack of reality. Nevermind notes. I am your ultimate drummer while inhave the ultimate singer. We no spring chikens. Trey will never love his chat
Definitely prefer your newer songs
Let's get Adam Neely in here
jazz
Haha, sounds like an anime song! (An awesome one)

@@treyxaviermusic Damn, I can't do push-ups like I used to. lol
What about you challenge yourself and make a full jazz album ? mmm ?
I'm already challenged enough
The motif, man, the motif! 🤘

Honestly, I prefer the original one for some weird reason
