Loved the BMW Six series since seeing one with the shark nose in the 80’s. Managed to get a 640i (65 plate) coupe loved it every thing about it. But the 2 doors was an issue. So got a 69 plate 840i GC. Love it but still miss the 6.

BMW has gotten so much shit for their designs lately. 1-Series, 7-series, Active Tourer, Gran Tourer. I'm still not a fan of the X6 either. Sure BMW has some great designs with the 8-series and the 2-Series (Coupe and Cabrio) but they have some really ugly cars as well.

The 6 Series Gran Coupe was auto show beautiful. Because it went the form over function path, it was really a 2 +2. The 8 Series addresses that problem but had to sacrifice roof line to put adults in the rear. It’s a worthwhile compromise in the real world for sure. But the 6 Series Gran Coupe will always be the style leader in a BMW “4 door”.
I think they could have done better with the new 8 series. The old one was/is iconic and this is a bit underwhelming. Should have had more of a supercar look

why do these coupe sedan things depriciate so much? they are rarer and cooler than regular sedans and it would be cool to have classic 4 door coupe cars as rarer and more exclusive versions of regular sedans but now as they depriciate they will be bought by young people who will ruin them and they will be driven more in general
The 8 series exterior looks super handsome. But the interior doesnt quite there yet. I prefer AMG GT 4 door coupe more than 8 series interior. Idk, it just looks a bit boring and bland. This is just my preference.

It looks good, but the 6 series GC is way more elegant. I think BMW put too much thought into having enough room for the rear passengers, which is not the main point in the GranCoupe, and which is why the 8 series GC is inferior to the outgoing 6er, looks wise.
70 kilograms/154 pounds is not a bad weight increase over the Coupe at all. That’s actually really impressive considering the added length and two extra doors. I wonder how much each of the extra doors weigh in full trim and how much of the added weight is actually part of the vehicle structure. Regardless it’s got me impressed.
To be honest a VW golf is autonomous as well on a motorway, what it has is adaptive cruise control with lane keep a assist, AEB and lane departure warning. Which is basically the same tech as BMW, so it not all that revolutionary, just because they changed the name didn't make it actually any different

Much better looking that the 2-door... never really liked the 2-door version because to my eye the proportions seems wrong/off, this 4-door fixes most of the problems with the proportions. But just like the 2-door, I still think the engine cover/bonnet/hood sits too high and doesn't flow with the rest of the car. My personal taste, don't feel offended if you think otherwise.
