A white or grey primer before the silver / chrome possibly? Light refracts in weird ways and what.s underneath also effects whats on top. Getting the right chrome paint seems to be a bit of a Holy Grail. Think you can get a mirror finish spray paint if your after that 'super shiny' mirrored chrome look. Top notch Mark! good on ya!

  • @SPIDERM0OSE
    @SPIDERM0OSE 4 года назад +2

You basically just slapped it on, Mark.
Proper sanding, priming, then taking better care spraying it on & allowing it to cure before hitting it with a good quality clear coat. .. thats the way to judge it.
You just slapped it on like ya were throwing it away.
We didnt see it finished, we only seen a work in progress.
Next time, with your patience, work two small projects side by side n give the products yer checking out a fair chance.

Perhaps wet sanding between each step "may" improve it. In the end, it's going to be silver. Deceptive packaging, sure enough.

If you have an older bike n are just looking to improve its look not make it showroom, then its probably a decent product.
Id like to see it done on pitted chrome, say engine crash bars, sanded, prepped filled n primed correctly, then applied the chrome correctly in a dust free area, let it dry according to instructions then hit it with a good quality clear coat.
Im pretty sure it would take a 40% looking part up to the 80% & above very cost effectively.

Excellent, I'm DIY chrome spraying the inside of some traffic indicators here, and at least I know the finish I get will be at least half way good.
    Also... love the dog.

Finally someone who talks my language, ... Maybe it's because I'm from the UK lol .... You would of got a better result with a smooth basecoat ... I do the Hydrochrome, it's mirror silver, looks the same as chrome ;-)

If you get a good chrome, then dupli color shadow chrome for a darker chrome effect....and something like polyacylic is less solvent reactive while experimenting.

    Great vid as usual.
As an alternative you can also use Molotow chrome refill or Alclad chrome. These need to be airbrushed on though with black gloss undercoat and clear topcoat.

And it was sprayed on a dark plastic with no primer
Id say it would do a decent job on pitted chrome if you prepped it right n worked patiently.

So I'm curious....what did Dulux do to that paint can lid to make it look so much like chrome? I assume the lid is plastic and it would be really expensive to chrome dip thousands of lids for their product..... Is that lid chrome plated somehow or is it painted?

Brilliant. I get a lot of hassle from mates who've never even tried stuff old school says isn't possible. Career mechanical engineers in high positions, aerospace etc, have never even tried some of the shit I've tried, and found out. For example, rust dissolution and permanent protection from future corrosion, painted or unpainted (your rear carrier) surface. So many people SHIT themselves about trying stuff because they "know better". They're losing out on all this bladdee stuff you're doing, mate.
    Top channel.

Hi Mark for a better effect try Mercury silver ( Metallic base coat ) with a clear coat to follow.
They are a two pack paint mixing ratio is 1:1 Base coat and thinners, clear coat and hardener is usually 3:1 or two 2:1 Either PPG brand or Delfleet brand, dimple,s on the PVC may have been the texture on the plastic. A good tip is to always wear gloves so you don,t leave oils and greases from your skin on the jobs your painting, great effort though. Cheers David

The key to getting a good result with these "chrome" paints is to use a heavy gloss base coat and a light coat of "chrome" on top.

Mark, wear an appropriate mask please. I’m not a safety Sally, but you don’t want Chromed lungs😂. Seriously, had a friend growing up who use to spray paint various things, cars, bikes, woodwork, with no mask and he use to laugh about it......for years. At 47 years old, he had double lung cancer and throat cancer. Passed away one year later. Never smoked anything in his life. Never worked with Asbestos or any other substance like that. His main job was computer stuff, mainly IT. I also notice Nay not wearing masks. I’m calling you out, Nay!😁.
I will fly to Australia and kick both your butts, if you don’t start using masks!!! And, don’t just do it to appease the camera! For the love of God and Country......take care of yourselves😁

Ur helmet paint was soft to scratch cuz u put the paint on too heavy too fast the bottom or first coat got covered by the second coat before it had a chance to finish outgassing so it releases its solvents into the top layer which gets soft and solvent pops the outer surface .the gasses erupted through the partially hardened outer surface which creates these very tiny micro pops or bubbles witch gives it a dull finish

Loved the vid as ever mate, my thoughts on the paint use as follows, perhaps you would have been better off using a primer that is compatible with that paint? I'm not familiar with that particular dulux product, but I've learnt from experience that the quality of the painted finish is 90% in the preparation. Anyway, by no means a criticism, just my thoughts my friend, cheers Ant.

It’s literally the worst paint on the planet. You want proper chrome get spazstix ultimate mirror chrome. Use a 2 pack base coat first, they have a black backer base coat but it’s been hard to get in an aerosol can lately. If you can’t get their basecoat don’t try use something else unless it’s 2 pack. The lacquer is so strong it will dissolve any basecoat; acrylic or enamel and ruin your mirror finish. Trust me I’ve been blowing tons of money experimenting.
