    I live in Spain and the Leatherman's are ridiculously expensive. A Leatherman Wave is about 170 EUR, and that is without a pocket clip or additional bits. So I bought the bibury surge clone for 38 EUR. It is a beast. So far so good, and for that price I have zero complaints so far. I have had it for about 3 weeks and it is holding up. I wish it came with a pocket clip, incase I don't take the pouch, but I am okay with it. Leatherman needs to do a better job of selling in Europe at a reasonable price.
    P.S. I primarily use it for DIY and camping and hiking.

    The 22-in-1 is really decent quality. The toolset is not available on any single Leatherman, you would need 3 different Leatherman models to cover the range from the one B/BURY. The knife blade is engineered just as well as the 'higher quality' tools. The sawblade is very good, the pliers with interchangeable hard wire cutters excellent, the tungsten glass breaker really good, the ferro rod and whistle very convenient, these copies have really stepped up their game. Only gripe I have is the over decoration of the tools, makes them look a little chintzy, stay classy San Diego.
    Owning 3 Leathermans, the Surge, the Rebar and the Wingman, I have checked them side by side and in use and these B/BURY tools really do stack up against all the other brands and where price is concerned, absolutely nothing else competes at all, not Gerber, not SOG, not Victorinox, not Leatherman, none. These other Market Leaders need to up their game, most patents they held have expired allowing B/BURY to legitimately use tool designs with zero legal repercussions. Leatherman are now being somewhat lazy and just using gimmicky powder or ceramic coated blade/scale finishes to create more interest in their products, few if any new individual tool design ideas.

    • @TheKimjoh560

      Second that. I got mine about a year ago and its held up great with alot of use. Sure there are some "quality" differences. A slight wobble here and there etc. But it doesnt really affect the performance of the tool at all. They are built well enough to rely on and they are priced at a point where you feel like you dont have to baby them. The 22 in 1 has the best aspects from the wave and signal (I own both) and even does several things better than either of those. Scissors, firesteel, awl etc. Only thing missing is a phillipshead screwdriver really but it does have a slot for hexbits of thats much of and issue.

    I bought the one with the hammer when I saw it on your channel a few months back and I absolutely love this thing. I use it at least 3-5 times per day. Since I’m new to EDCng a multi tool I wanted to see how much I would use one before dropping $150 and frankly I have very little reason so far to upgrade to a Leatherman, especially since I have no desire to put myself in a situation with proprietary bits. I see you subtly letting Leatherman know they’re in trouble if they don’t start “playing nice” with other bit systems, but a lot of brands seem to think they’re the “Apple” of their industry and their name will overcome purposeful compatibility issues and slow innovation. If they don’t get it together soon Bibury might become the Canik of the multi-tool space.

    Awesome, you're doing us all a service with the videos on tools like this. I lost my favorite edc, my leatherman wave + black and stainless, when it came out of my pocket on a motorcycle ride. I retraced my trip 3 times, but never found it and obviously someone must have swiped it before I could get to it. Anyway I couldn't justify carrying a $160 tool like that anymore so never replaced it. That was 2 years ago, and today I bought all three of these tools on amazon for less than I could replace that wave+ here in Canada. I'll carry one, and keep the others in a vehicle/motorcycle. Thanks for the insight!

      I had to report back here after receiving these three tools yesterday. Pretty big disappointment on the wave clone, that thing was a train wreck and I sent it back. There wasn't a part on it that wasn't messed up in some way. Everything rough, bent, loose and flimsy, even the pliers. I spent an evening breaking in the pivots, tuned it up with the torx bits and went at it with the CLP, but it was a lost cause. The surge clone was a little better so I kept that one but just as a backup in a glove box. Undecided on the signal clone, but I need the bit driver more than ferro rod. I have a whole new appreciation for my real leatherman tools now though! lol. Guess I'd been taking them for granted all these years. Buy once cry once?

    I just ordered this and I used your link, so you should get credit for it. I went to cut a, I believe 10 Guage solid core wire and my Knifeless Rebar cutter snapped on the side that had the rounded cutter. The more squared off bottom cutter was fine. I ended up having to come down the ladder to get my wire cutters out of my toolbag, to finish the job. I have been wanting to get the Surge for a while and luckily I am working in a building without knife regulations, so I will be ok with this for a while. I don't do electrical all the time, I was on the demo team today and I had to make sure the plumbing and electrical was taken care of. The 240 wire broke my cutter. I am going to contact Leatherman and see if I can send a picture, because I have the picture of the wire that broke it, with the cutters still on the wire. Copper should not break these cutters. Thanks for recommending these, because they are 40 percent off right now and I think they were $41 and some change. I am at least looking forward to this multitool and putting it to the test. 😀

    Been using the wave/signal mashup tool for a little over a year now. I believe its called "22 in 1" I have used it relatively hard and it's actually held up great. Not sure about quality control with this brand so someone perhaps had a different experience. While it feels lower quality than my wave or signal I haven't really had any indication that it actually would be in terms of practical use and durability despite being, twisting, prying or hammering. The only difference in terms of actual performance is a slight disadvantage in edge retention. To me thats not a big deal because its still absolutely good enough for what I would use it for. Assuming the toolset is right for you I highly recommend it. I did slightly bend the small screw driver but it bent right back and I have snapped countless of those on the wave/charge and I much prefer bending.

    Just got my first clone. The wife put it in the cart on prime day. She got me the Flissa variant of the wave. Like you had mentioned the quality is not great. The pliers work fine (a little tight)
    The problem i have is not all the liner locks function without a lot of pressure. Still for $23 i would have been happy with only half the tools working. I use it primarily to garden in the backyard. The external serrated blade is great for trimming plants and harvesting crops.

  • @erikswenson2659
    @erikswenson2659 3 месяца назад

    I have the Pro and been using it as an EDC for a few months. Not overly impressed with the edge on the knives, but for the money I cannot complain. My biggest gripe is the low quality of the case. Taking out the extra bits and especially replacing them in the sheath is way to fiddly and likely not to be secure as the elastic gets old. The spare saw blade retention is not secure, though I have not managed to lose those spares yet. One of the rivets that holds the belt clip to the sheath pulled through already, despite not having seen any very hard service. I repaired it with my riveting tool and sandwiching the case between a thin metal plate place inside the sheath and the plastic clip. A crappy case might invalidate the insurance if it only covers breakage and not loss, since the rivets falling out could result in the tool and sheath disappearing on you with only the clip to be found on your belt at the end of the day.

    On the Amazon website it says the only comes with a PH1 phillips, for the only phillips, but I was pleasantly surprised to see a PH1/PH2 bit installed. When I 1st opened it, I said sweet baby Jesus, this thing is huge. The 1 thing I don't like it that none of these clones, Wave or Surge, doesn't have detents on the opened pliers handles, but that's just a minor disappointment. I love it. Thank you so much. $40 isn't bad at all for this. 😀

While I like the "Buy American" ideal, in reality I can't practice it as much these days due to health and costs of my health meaning Leatherman and very sadly Victorinox Swiss tools are just not an option for me. While I don't have a major use and need for a Multitool outside of the utilitarian SAKs I have, being a tinkerer means one might be handy from time to time. I do also carry the smaller Leatherman ES4(that I used when I was working with computers/electronics) and the PS4 that I had previously before the health issues so a decent tool that is less expensive but still effective would be nice because nowadays I might miss place/lose the tool.

    La pro es la mejor, con sierras de calar puedes cortar madera, metal, hasta otros materiales con las de polvo de diamante, con solo intercambiar la lima. En precio no es tan cara como Leatherman, si te la roban te dolerá menos.

    can you imagine if these clones had the option to upgrade the steel? at least on the knife blade.

  • @tonyambrose5679
    @tonyambrose5679 3 месяца назад

    So I'm curious about the steel quality of the blade on the Pro as the blade is my most often used tool, size, sharpness and edge retention are key. If it's not so great i'm also wondering how easy and practical it would be to swap an S30V blade from a Charge+ TTI onto it. And speaking of swapping Bibury also makes one of the smaller models that has a gut hook (they call it a strap cutter) on the serrated blade, I wonder if that can be swapped over in place of the regular serrated blade, It's probably smaller but that doesn't matter.
    I realize that I could just get a Leatherman Charge+ TTI and get the layout I want but I really don't like their bit driver and the $200 price tag is tough to chew on.

  • @MrPysiaki

    I have bought the Surge clone, and when you close the main knife blade it hits the inner part of the frame, making it blunt at the most important section of the blade. WHAT A SHAME - such an important issue and easy to avoid, not to be overlooked by the producer...
    Btw the serrated blade hits the frame on its top, which is bearable, but still it is not very cleaver to construct it that way.
