I was on the radio for 40 years and never matched that. He was the greatest. When I retired in 2016 at 65, I was the only live full time jock in the building. It was sad, we had 7 stations and they were all syndicated or voice tracked, I refused to voice track. They would not let me do anything fun because they said they couldn't have me doing one thing, having fun and taking call, contest and listener dedications and the like, when all others were voice tracked. UGH
Voice tracking and automation have ruined radio. The boss jocks of the 70's and 80's were real technicians, they produced their own shows, they made the music come alive, hitting all the posts, they worked the phones and made the callers the stars of the show. They all had self-deprecating humor. Then in the mid 90's radio changed to where all the jocks just read liners and did time and weather checks and today it's even worse, long music sweeps with no talk.

I remember the first time I voice tracked; it felt so unnatural! Listening to myself on the radio also felt unnatural. There was no longer any magic in it. It made me sad.

MG has that amazing poise and confidence along with a voice he's uses like a instrument to communicate to the listener. Way better than 95 percent of the hyped up jocks, Sirius XM is garbage in comparison this guy is the real Machine Gun!

Why is there so much black at the end? 15 sec worth. All the California Aircheck videos are like this? Plus the white lines on ether side of the frame? Though I do like how these videos capture the moment when radio had so much more personality in it, behind the mic. Now it's all satellite delivered, sounding all the same from market to market. How many "kiss" FM branded stations are there across the country now anyway? When their call sign isn't even KISS. I'm not sure how local DJ's even move up through the markets anymore with mostly sat delivered content with large market DJs filling in the mic duties. Who is going to learn the craft?
I was an Oldies jock too and had lots of fun but M.G. is the man, I take my headphones off to him. He is one of the best. I sure miss Oldies, doing Country now.

I visited KOOL FM in Phoenix when I was 21 years old, 17 years before this video was filmed. It's the only radio station I've ever been in that had a big beautiful crystal chandelier hanging in the lobby! Classy place!
Not only is he a great DJ but totally nice/cool person when you meet him in person.

Is he still on the air anywhere? Wish he was on Serius XM. He is as good as The Real Don Steele was. High energy, tight board, fast paced ShotgunTom Kelly is very good and could perform at this level but management wanted the DJs to tamp it down and be “conversational.”
Machine Gun Kelly is good, even excellent........but, PLEASE! there's ONLY ONE Real Don Steele! That mold was broken long ago!
This was quite a while after Top 30 USA had gone off the air.
