5 months - 1.6K views and only 15 likes and no comments at the time I am writing this. Not a single thought provoking or politely worded rebuttal to the interpretations presented here, not one! "The National Gallery of Art, founded as a gift to the nation, serves as a center of visual art, education, and culture." The nation appears to reject this 'gift' and while I mean no offense - perhaps it's time to stop following the DADA-ist manifesto, you had a whole century to work with it and obviously, obviously, the public rejects it at this point. Does my tax money pay for this?
You are so unpopular at this point I feel sorry for you and I wash dishes for a living! (while I continue to teach myself the classical tradition because your colleges couldn't do it).
None of you, apparently (by your lack of educated comments on just about any and all fine modern art talk videos) will risk the scorn of your peers by actually saying you really just like the idea of being a sophisticated art lover and patron much more than the art itself. The emperor is wearing a fine robe - you must see it or you will be ejected from the court!!
Like Orwell's idea of double-think the general attitude on this type of non-objective work is that to be a sophisticated fine art collector you must convince yourself that it is interesting, pretend that the same ideas haven't been done in a thousand freshman art classes and possibly role play the art collectors in the 1980s movie Wall Street - where the poor are portrayed as too ignorant to understand the value of modern art while the rich are astute collectors.
The irony is that Jacqueline Humphries is very interesting person, I'm very pleased that she has been able to explore the fringes of fine art with her experiments, she would make an awesome teacher I bet but is she the best artist to represent the nation in the National Gallery of Art?? I don't need any comments as I know without a shadow of a doubt the public would prefer my art over Jacqueline's, no offense but I spent 30 years doing the same thing, experimenting with what paint can do, reading art history tomes, taking my neato ideas seriously and working with them but also learning the classical tradition to make murals the public actually likes to see as it shows skill, craftsmanship, and hard work. I should be representing the public in the National Gallery of Art as I know all the same neato ideas of modern art but I didn't just settle for that - after a 100 years it's possible to get the same careful thought provoking manifesto on a painting that actually doesn't look like the artist gave up trying to draw in college!! Whomever deletes this - have a nice day!
