Human vs Ape Chromosomes

Does the fusion of human chromosome #2 really indicate a common evolutionary ancestor between humans and apes? - as well as the overall chromosomal similarities? New discoveries regarding significant genetic differences between humans and apes are much more in line with the idea of a common designer rather than common ancestry.
