TBH, I don`t really think Lan Di will have redemption, nor do I think Ryo will accomplish revenge. I think what we saw in the Shenmue Online CGI trailer is where we are heading. To something that is more important than revenge.
I don't really think Ryo is going to take down Lan Di but I feel like Lan Di is probably going to be killed by a larger threat at play or Lan Di causes his own death. Probably by his own hands because that's what Yu Suzuki said would happen at the end of the series.
I can see it playing out that Ryo, Shenhua and Lan Di all team up against a big final boss
very interesting, but lan di is of the serpent/dragon. this is ancient real life history/theology put out as fiction
no idea, they did a couple of retcons on the ending of shenmue 2 and added comic relief into the big face to face meet after lan di killed his father so anything is possible.

I hope Ryo does take down Lan DI in Shenmue 4 (if we ever get Shenmue 4 that is) because i want to see Ryo finish his story while am still alive. I'm not getting any younger. However, am glad when game creators stick with their creative visions. The Shenmue series feels like the most incomplete series in gaming history. If Shenmue 4 doesn't have Ryo defeat Lan Di' then i want to see Ryo land at least one or two blows on him.
He may not defeat him. But there could be something larger at play
I think lan di will eventually understand that he was lied to and used by the chi you men. i think he will sacrifice himself to save the world.
I would like to see a 3 game prequel, Iwao, Lan Di, and Ren.
Maybe one day! A Shenmue 0 should follow Iwao
As we know from 3 , ryo is not ready for lan di but let's not forget that lan di is in his physical prime while ryo is only 18 and nowhere near the finished article , ryo can only get bettwr and lan di can onky get older from here on out..
Also i would say that if lan di fought iwao at the age of 18 he would not have beat iwao
Most likely Ryo will face Lan Di, he will defeat him, but he won't take his revenge. There may be some other final boss that they work together to defeat as well.

Lan Di is a young man. So young, that he was a kid Ryos father was a young man. Yet his skill gap over a man much his senior Ryos father, clearly let's us see where he stands against Ryo. Ryo, to put it politely will need to find a decent cache of firearms and develop considerable skill with said firearms. A few grenades wouldn't hurt either.
I don't think Ryo will ever take him down.
Iwao Hazuki and Sunming Zhao were once best friends, and the Chi You Men were after the Dragon and Phoenix Mirrors even when Zhao had them. I might be way off, but my theory is that the Chi You Men were responsible for Zhao’s death and manipulated Lan Di into believing that Iwao was to blame. They then groomed Lan Di, using his desire for revenge to help them retrieve the mirrors.
In Shenmue 3, once Niao Sun obtained the Dragon Mirror, Lan Di had fulfilled his role, and became expendable, hence Niao Sun trying to kill him immediately after.
Lan Di will uncover the truth, and seek his own revenge against the Chi You Men, or some sort of truce between himself and Ryo. (Ryo might need some convincing from his friends!)

For me now ryo should not fight lan di until the very end he should pick off one leader at a time with a time skip every time and learning more skills
I believe that they have made Rio hazuki add character so unlockable by the fan base that they need to just move past Rio hazuki and do a prequel with his father and make his father character a character the fans and game players would enjoy the play and then make a sequel that skips real hazuki and goes into the future and explains what happened 2 Rio hazuki and not even be a major story thing it just be one story arc within a much larger story in the future. But basically that Rio would already be dead by the sequel.
@ personally we need the end to ryos story don’t forget his end story is finding out the truth about his own father so that’s his fathers arc in ryos story there will be someone who will know the truth about ryos father and it will be something to do with the chi you men, the chi you men has over grown and now the other leaders are fighting for power so makes ryo’s journey picking them off one by one a lot easier
I always wanted Ryo to beat the crap out of Lan Di but as I'm getting older I'm hoping he'll have at least a redeeming act.

I think in the end Ryo will kick Lan Di ass so bad, that will incapacitate him and Lan Di will die out of pride trying to kill Ryo or some other bad guy kills him...

I wonder why Yu Suzuki couldn't realize Shenmue 3 100 percent when the total budget of 20 million was available for this game. Especially when I know that Shenmue and Shenmue 2 and possibly also the canceled Saturn version cost around 47 million. yu suzuki should perhaps rethink the Shenmue concept and go in the direction of ryu ga gotuga (yakuza). I've played through all of the Yakuza games and I noticed that they relied on existing assets, which should make development cheaper.
What is especially important to mention is the development time, which is also much shorter.
I also doubt that Shenmue can be told to its end in 5 games, considering that Chiyomen consists of 5 main fighters and in 3 games we have only seen 2, Lan di and Niao Sun, although Niao Sun was only shown halfway. And then there is Tentei too.
There's a number of factors in that.
1. Is they couldn't reuse assets from the DC era. They'd have needed the licence for it which costs money and expertise to do so.
2. They had to build everything from scratch. 70% of development was spent rebuilding the Shenmue systems in Unreal. Add in that SEGA gave them no access to any source code and you're starting from 0. Shenmue 4 could benefit from using the basis of Shenmue 3.
3. The budget was not static. It changed several times during development which makes it much harder to plan with what you have.
4. A new team always gives it and added complication.
Shenmue can undoubtedly be done in two more games. They'd have to smash the story hard but it can be done and tbh most people would be down for a very story heavy game.
@@ShenmueDojoVOD SEGA still owns the rights, so SEGA should actually take care of Shenmue. SEGA should take note of all the feedback and rethink Shenmue, make plans to move this franchise forward. The first Yakuza games didn't sell any better than Shenmue. I analyzed Yakuza in terms of production costs and sales, and only later, when Yakuza became more modern, did it sell better. But Sega doesn't seem to be interested in Shenmue. Ryu Ga Gotuka Studios and YS Net would be the ideal collaboration when it comes to Shenmue with SEGA's involvement. It would be a shame if Shenmue 4 also appeared similarly to Shenmue 3. Yu Suzuki himself said he wanted to make Shenmue 4 more appealing to the masses. Otherwise we'll always have to wait a long time and hope...
Ryo is younger then Lan Di so I think with enough practice he can lan di even said at the end of shenmue 3 he says " it looks like you've improved a bit" so if he carries on improving he can take down lan di
I believe in the shin move franchise they have so much real hazuki character. It would be better instead of doing a shiny for to do a shin move prequel. Where you get to play as shenmue father and find out the story of what happened before from Rio hazuki father's point of view. Also skip ahead to the Future post Rio hazuki and explain. For new playable characters that don't exist right now what eventually happened to Ryo hazuki. I believe both of those directions have more of a viable way of selling mini games if the playable characters are done right and not made as annoying as real houki. That's probably the direction that would need to happen to be in able to get the funds needed to fund those projects so in other words notion move for just go backwards and forward pass ryo

OK, going off Shenmue 3, he is still way off Lan di's level imo. That's not a knock against Ryo it's just di is that good and Ryo is still young.
I guess his friends he's picked up could help, not sure if that would work.

I believe at some point Sega is going to take the right to shimu away from the creator of shenume and they're going to go in their own direction with shenue in which case they might just reboot the story from the ground up and it may be a completely different story. Or they could keep the main characters and do a similar story Sega can do whatever they want with it. That's something people forget second never gave the creator of shiny the rights to send me they only gave him the right to make shin me free so Sega could at any time say nope we're going to reboot the series or we're going to do our own thing with a shenume 4
Ryo will defeat Lan Di, but he will not kill him. Ryo defeating Lan Di assures that he is honorably superior to him…
