Hi Gemma i love your videos...they're so helpful. My favorite style of dress is the shift dress & navy blue is my favorite colour. Best wishes from South Africa 🇿🇦
I love all these styles, so long as they’re bra-friendly - no spaghetti straps or backless styles. I can wear many of them, as you suggest, in cold weather with boots and a turtleneck underneath. I like to keep my dresses simple and sophisticated, because of my age, 61. I found my ideal white dress at Zara last month, a simple, V-neck, sleeveless midi made of cotton knit, it’s gorgeous and can be worn a lot of different ways.
I always found that shirt dresses are flattering for all shapes. And they’re so easy to wear, in any occasion! If you find a wrinkle free fabric, they are perfect for travel
Love your channel! My favourite is the Empire dress. Not favoured these last seasons but one can find lots of dresses that style on Ebay, some of them brand new!
You forgot about the t shirt dress. It has firmly established itself as timeless. I really like the milkmaid dress that has made a comeback this summer. I've always liked that "babydoll" style. My favorite all time Classy Dress is the 1950s shirt "fit & flare" dress! My kids used to call it the "Sandy Dress" (from Grease). It flatters just about everyone & has that timeless- but, Retro Feel! - Minus the petticoat!
Terrific dresses I love the empire dress you chose and a shirt dress is perfect any time. I think shirt dresses flatter just about everyone. Now we can get out more I m looking forward to wearing my dresses. Another inspiring video ..thank you.
I have a linen (short sleeve) shirt dress in navy which fits my petite figure pretty well. I have a hour glass shape so whatever looks good on that body shape I pay attention to. I don't like to show my arms that much, but I can always throw on a jacket over a dress. I love wrap dresses but I have a somewhat longer torso and wrap dresses tie too much above my waist line and it doesn't look right. I enjoyed seeing all the summer dresses in this video including the ones you modeled.
My favorite dress is ALL of them! I just love summer dresses. We have such extreme Temps between winter and summer where I live that dresses are ace! Also when a woman loves a dress she is wearing you can see a shift in how she looks and that empire waist does it for you Gemma.
Summer dresses are good for sewing and if you sew or have a friend that sews this is the way to go. That way you can have custom dresses including empire lines which are not difficult. Since summer dresses are usually not lined and made with fabrics like cotton and jersey they are not difficult to sew.
Oh, no... and now I HAVE TO get myself a white dress...love it! Gemma, would you do a clip on summer shoes? I find this topic particularly difficult - I have very sensitive feet, prone to blisters and chaffing and summer is always such a challenge for me in terms of footwear...Another idea I have is summer officewear - not neccessarily the most business style one, but also not completely casual. How to deal with heat, but also not show too much and dress properly to office environment when it is scorching hot. Thank you!!!
Great video Gemma! I love an empire waist dress, for all the reasons you mentioned. Second choice would be a wrap dress. I find in North America, the air conditioning is freezing (my own opinion) and therefore I prefer something with a sleeve. 165k❤️❤️ your doing it!
I ticked off every dress style on your list. I love white dresses and would like to add one more to my dress collection. I also love shirt dresses and recently ordered a navy blue cotton one from Mango. The only one that I have a challenge with is finding a floral dress as I find most of them too 'flouncy' as you say. So I opt for paisley prints or other graphic designs. Nice selection in the video. Thanks!
I love Empire line dresses too. In 1812, all the women looked lovely in them, whatever their age or size! You look fabulous in the M&S dresses. I’d love to wear a shirtdress, but I have giant shoulders and hips - I have to go up a couple of sizes, and I look like a double bed!
A navy shirt dress is the win for me! I bought one just this year after seeing one in one of your videos and I’ve worn it so many times! I’m quite petite I wouldn’t buy petite trousers, but I do find if I buy longer dresses they kind of overwhelmed my frame and I just look like a giant piece of fabric. I’ve started buying dresses in the petite range on Next, even for shorter dresses they sit just above my knee.
That white with dots flutter street dress is perfect on you and on Me too. I HAVEseversl but they arr all solid and I woild love one in white or beige...cant find one. I look best in vnecks. My dress wardrobe is mainly wrap dresses but again they are hard for me to find in lighter colors for summer and Spring. I have a collection of about seven red dresses bec I can find and wear the color in summer. Only one is a print a fit and flare vneck with a really nice print. The others all vary in style. Usually I wear a white or cream blazer with these dresses to cover my arms...if it is warm I just drape them over my shoulders...I like to wear simple pearl jewelry or gold with them and nude shoes in various styles and heights with a red classic style handbag....I have classic ballet flats in the same red with tiny dot metal dots the size of pinheads so wear those if I WILL,BE. walking alot. I would love to own that dress you like in several colors...,
Empire line is my favourite too. It emphasizes the smallest part of my waist and skims over the tummy area. What is not to like? I also find them hard to fine. They were in style in the 00s so I hope they will come back soon. Second best is fit and flare for me.
Totally agree about empire waist dresses - they are perfect for someone like me who is very short waisted. Summer dresses are becoming harder to wear as I get older, but a v-neck maxi with either short or elbow length sleeves works - the length hides any flaws (veins!!) in the legs, and can look modern with a jeans jacket. Sadly, the sundress days are long gone. It is much easier in the winter, when I can wear opaque tights.
Hi Gema! I didn't think I needed or wanted a summer dress until I saw your video ! You showed some gorgeous ones that I can now keep my eye out for. This video was so much better than anything else I've seen done on the topic. Thank you so much!
Great video Gemma...would you consider doing different videos on how to look elegant and classy on vacation? I'm going to a beach town but others might be going to the lake or mountains. thanks
I have the sage green dress, from Reiss. It is a beautiful dress. The only down side to it, the spaghetti straps. As a large girl, I have to wear a bra, non negotiable. So, I am planning on wearing it with a vest underneath it. My favourite style is 50's, fitted on top, waist accentuated and big skirts.
Hello Gemma.. thank you, your style and tips are fantastic 🌺.. very appreciative iam.. Linen has been my favorite since I was a teenager.. Sincerely Tee Jay

Hi Gemma, im not a dress fan, definitely no patterns. My fave is the wrap in navy, black or cream. Love the last dress on you though. Hope you're ok xx
Another great video. Oh Gemma, at this point, I’m a little afraid to shop for anything if I don’t hear your opinion on it first 😅🤣 I just love your style. I am going on a laid back holiday with friends, renting a cabin in the woods sort of thing. I would love for you to cover really casual (but stylish) options for that sort of thing.... please, and soon🙏 I am literally waiting for your suggestions since most of your chic outfit tips would potentially look a little much for a laidback, kids running around and parents kicking back and letting go kind of trip! Ps: my Lilysilk gray silk trench came in and I am in love 😍
I agree with your subscriber, Kimberly... I wish there was a store for plus size that just used natural fibers.... so annoying that polyester and all the man made fabrics are used even when you shop at higher end stores.... I am thinking of having clothes made...
A fit and flare, a wrap dress will flatter your body type. Stay away from dresses that pull the eye to the shoulders for e.g. off-the-shoulder, puffy sleeves, thin spaghetti straps
I was just about to post the same. I love the look of an empire line dress but because of big boobs they hang too far out in front. I find wrap dresses are better so long as they wrap far enough to cover my boobs but they hang better on me than an empire line

Just watched all of your summer dress videos from last year. You do a great job! Can’t wait to see this years!!!
My fav is all and any.
Jemima, you looked beautiful in that soft green blouse! Great color for you! I love empire dresses too! Your polka-dot one is lovely!
Sorry about the auto correct on my phone butchering your name!
I love your collection.. your style is similar to mine and answer to my taste.. thanks for all your videos 💝

You look stunning in the navy shirtdress. Your ideas are so wearable as well as stylish. Thanks

I love rhe navy shirt waist too.
Your blouse is beautiful. I love the colour. It looks fantastic in you.

It’s so great when you find a dress that has it all. I had a dress like that years ago and wore it out and could never find one quite as perfect again
For me the worst is finding what looks like the perfect dress then realizing it has a super long darn near crotch length slit going up the thigh 🤨
Great selection of summer dresses. My personal favourite is the shirt dress!!! And you looked great in all the dresses you featured Gemma. Xx
Thank you for showing a variety of body shapes.
I agree with you about the Empire dresses- but I also love the wrap dresses.
I find it hard to get a wrap dress to fit me sadly as I’m short in the body but do love them 👗
@@Gemmawhattowear You are so elegant and beautiful, I think most all clothes would look beautiful on you.
I like the vertical lined black and white shirt dress
Striking aren’t them
Love the long navy dresses - silky one with the brown belt & the one with the fabric tie sash - gorgeous!
I agree, love those too 💕
I always found that shirt dresses are flattering for all shapes. And they’re so easy to wear, in any occasion! If you find a wrinkle free fabric, they are perfect for travel
I agree with you, Gemma.... Empire waists are my favorite too. In shirts also. So flattering and hides alot!
I'm more the dress 1 type. Or with the Bardot style top.
I love a simple white or teensy print dress.
The last dress, the empire waist line is my favorite. Look fabulous on you.
I love all the dresses. They’re a one and done. Comfortable and versatile. 👍❤️
i love wrap dresses...but all are beautiful..thank you
My favorite is fit and flare, then empire. I love sleeves to keep the sun off my skin.
You look stunning in the blue dress. Fantastic video. I have a closet full of summer dresses.

Fit and flare - my absolute fav!!! :) They really can be very flattering, and the fuller skirt can cover a multitude of sins... _lol!_
I agree, a white sundress is timeless and nice and cool as well.
Thank you! Nice summer dresses. I also keep looking for empire cut dresses. They are the most flattering and comfortable.

I think my favorite is a fitted, but not tight, jersey/knit dress made of a breathable fiber like viscose, cotton, linen or silk.
Love the black and white dress

I’d go with a wrap dress or empire line depending on your bust size 👍🏻
