Signo DX is irreplaceable for me.
Sarasa Nano is a nice pen for long note taking session. However the ink is still the usual Sarasa ink that slightly scratchy with any tips below 0.4.
Uni One is a good daily beater, has richer pigment colors and won't easily ghosting on cheap papers.
And I still hate Energel, too slippery to write with on something like Rhodia.

I am a bit of a "fountain pen snob" but even I must admit everyone needs a Uni-ball Signo! Another benefit of extra-fine nibs is that it naturally makes your handwriting look better. Last year when I had time to 'work' on my handwriting, the very first and easiest thing that worked was thinner lines. Second way increasing my slant. Both tips I picked up from JetPens videos.✒🖋👍👏

I had a Pilot Hi Tec 0.3 which I had used in uni. When I finished uni, I left it in my pencil case. Fast forward 10 years, during which I started work, got married, had kids. I then started a volunteer work which was desk work, so out came my good old pencil case. Amazingly, my Hi Tec still worked and ran smoothly until the ink finished. If you have a Hi Tec, treasure it!

@@arapaimagold8088 That was just a myth. Because those who actually use this pen are very "careful" with their stuff to begin with anyway. And the ink writes until the LAST DROP.

@@arapaimagold8088 Will kinda disagree with this one. A 0.3 g-tec (a hi-tec variant) I had pre-pandemic survived a lot of falls and a broken nib, but it still works. Didn't write with it for 2 years and used it again last year until the last drop. That was my holy grail g-tec, since aside from the ones mentioned above that thing doesn't skip too much and is just a marvel to write with. My new one had a lot of ink distribution and skips a lot, so I had to switch to a signo dx.

FriXion pens have been my daily driver since discovering them in grad school. Back then, I used the 0.7 in my research notebooks. These days, I use the 0.38 in my bullet journal, specifically a Ball 2 Biz 2 with black and an accent color I swap out every month. The FriXion 0.38 pens are so good for planners, cannot recommend enough.

I use a Hi-Tec-C Coleto with 0.3mm pen tips for my bullet journal. I needed a journal book that was small enough to fit in my purse, and I write pretty small in small notebooks, so the extra-fine tip sizes on the components for the Coleto work really well for me. Plus, the assortment of colors are perfect for all the color-coding I do for my bullet journal. For day-to-day writing, though, I always recommend the Uni Ball Signo to my friends and family.

I write in cursive all the time (not a flex, my printing is awful, haha), so I've found fine tip helps make my writing look neater and more readable, where a thicker nib makes the letters less crisp and tidy. I have to say, I like the Pilot G2 in a 0.38 mm the best. It writes wetter than other pen of that size, and I have gotten a couple of pens with burs on the ball, however it is my favorite. Price to value, I really like the g2.
The downside it is only available in {B, Blue, R, G}, and the line feels more bold (a plus for me) when compared to a Uni ball, Zebra Sarasa, or Pilot Hi-tec-C, (or even a Pilot Juice up).

Loves me some Zebra Sarasas and I do like to write small as possible sometimes for practice just to see if the pen moves the way I imagined it would, but generally stay away from anything smaller than 0.4mm, especially in lighter colors, because they tend to stop writing the quickest to me. That said, 0.4 and 0.5mm is where it's at for me, lol, 1.0mm would seem like using a chisel on a stone tablet after finally being exposed to those sizes. The smaller the tip size, the scratchier they become.
Jetpens should sell a sample collection that has each of the pens mentioned in different tip sizes. Like they do with the colors and types of ink.

@@arapaimagold8088 - Then state that in the recommendations. More people will buy the pens and not the paper that is claimed to work well with them. Most people will still use the paper that they have been using for years. And not order paper that specifically works with certain pens and not others.

@@ackman3981 I'm not sure what you're saying. You originally talked about the possibility of a sample pack. The current sample packs on jetpens are comprised of individual full size pens that you can purchase individually on the site. The sample packs provide less than a dollar discount (I think they add them up and round down to the nearest dollar). Because they sell individual pens, you could create a sample pack of individual pens of different tip sizes.

Warning about the frixion pens: if you leave stuff in the hot sun, the ink can vanish that way too. A college teacher I had warned us that it happened to one of her previous students. She (the teacher) had left her grading in the car and the page on top of the pile had significantly faded. She was still able to read it but still.

funny tho, I'm always wanting to get my 0.7 G2 ink to run out so I could use 0.5 😅 but until now it still has ink. it's the ink with pilot vega and it was the only size with it. I didn't want to be wasteful, so I put up with using it since I bought it August of last year.

Pentel Energel 0.4 for taking notes seems to be the best fit for me. I haven't tried all the pens on this list, but the Signo would be my second choice. I just don't like the Juice Up build quality.

I like gel pens but I can’t get over the fact that they are disposable plastic and/or use disposable plastic cartridges. I know it’s not much but it’s still something. With a fountain pen you can cut out so much plastic and only use a glass bottle of ink every few months (depending on usage of course)…

    • @user-vx3ut1fg7n

Hey! If your main concern is the disposability of gel pens made of plastic, there are metal pens that can use gel ink refills. Examples of metal pens are BIGiDESIGN Ti Arto EDC Pen, Tactile Turn Bolt Action Pen, and Parker Jotter(there are many Parker-style gel ink refills available like Schmidt, Ohto, Monteverde, Schneider etc. You may want to try them).😊

Ohto Flash Dry Gel Pen refill dries before you can even manage to smear it on purpose and is a Parker-style refill, so it fits into many pens like the Jotter, Retro 51, Kaweco Special, etc. Jetpens best kept secret?!

I just got the Pilot Juice Up pastel set and I love them. The colors show up nice on white paper (except the white one of course). I bought the Sarasa Milk gel pens and they where not that good. These Juice up pastels are much better.

Fountain pens are always my first choice.. Nothing writes as well, and nothing improves handwriting more than a fountain pen. But when I must use a gel pen , I use the Energel. For a rollerball I use the Pilot Precise V5. Not all of these are gel pens. Gel pens use gel based ink, of course, but rollerballs use liquid ink identical to fountain pen ink. Ballpoints, on the other hand, use oil based ink. It's wise to know the difference.
The Pilot Precise V5 is a rollerball and uses liquid ink. No gel in it.

Well I bought a blue black Sarasa ST-1 in 0.38, and the ink stopped flowing out after 2 days. Dipped it in hot water, and it cured the ink flow problem. However it damaged the pigment, so my blue black pen turned into light blue pen. Oh well, I bought another one just for the sake of having full line up of it.
