The thing about Andi changing her style was a bit necessary for her job because since she works in fashion at the highest level, what she is wearing will be photographed, designers will be sending her things, and it shows she actually knows what she is doing. The cerulean talking to Miranda gives her is a good example of this because no matter how dumb someone may think fashion is, there is a whole history, trend cycle, and innovation behind the industry and if Andi is just wearing whatever off the rack thing it says to everyone in the industry that she doesn’t understand, appreciate, or respect their work. So yes, she didn’t _need_ to completely change her style to do well at work but doing so showed that she was taking the work seriously by putting time and effort into understanding what she was wearing and why. I tell you real fashionheads can you the brand, season, fashion show, and designer someone is wearing and like it or not in her job, Andi was a model of that and needed to be knowledgeable through study and execution. Like you are going to know how to spell Gabbana if you’re wearing D&G, you’re going to appreciate a vintage Coco Chanel tweed jacket if you had to scour to find it, it’s those little things that make the job she needed to do. ❤
Don't forget what she's wearing at the end. Not designer, but not her old clothes, either. Because now she finally appreciates the value of putting effort into your appearance.
The way I see it, it's a change of mindset. From Andi not willing to change and 'try' for the job she's doing, to her trying to understand it, starting form appearance, since it's mostly what the fashion industry is about. What we wear usually affects how we think and the other way around. Fashion is a form of self-expression, if she does not take her appearance seriously, especially in fashion industry, then she doesn't take job seriously.
Floridian here. To be fair, Miranda was grounded in Miami. Andie could've rented a limo to drive her to either Orlando or Tampa and fly her home from there. Enjoyed your reaction.
I'm generally not very in favour of Andys friends in this film, I do think Andy changing her style helps her being taken more seriously by the rest of the industry, and so it's no longer an obstacle for her, but she obviously didn't need to loose weight. It's a great film!
You're the first male reactor to this movie (that I have seen so far) that sees the problem of how the interactions between Andy and her friends and boyfriend are problematic. The sad thing is, the writer (who is a female) still sees it as the right decision. I understand that partners and friends may have problems with Andy, but how it was executed in the story is wonky. She apologized to him and accepting of his decision in the end has bothered me for years now lol.
It seems like it was impossible to stay in the job without the personality, fashion, etc shift. That was the necessary adaptation. It wasn't enough to be smart and hardworking. And that's the point; the job itself was toxic and took away so much of who she was. That's why she had to leave.
I don't think her boyfriend stayed up just to show he's unhappy with her. I think it's more likely he was worried. If my lover tells me they'll be at my party and then don't show up and are late for hours I'd honestly be worried something happened to them. I wouldn't be able to sleep until they came home.
Entry level positions in the publishing industry seldom pay enough to afford an apartment in most parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn. She and her boyfriend have a nice apartment by NYC standards. Even in the 2000s when this was shot. Nowadays, it's even worse. Magazines and newspapers are being replaced by digital media.
Love ur reaction, this is one of my all time favorite movies, most people reacting would give andy a hard time for changing and always working, when she clearly had no choice, her hands were tied, i like how you were very understanding of the character
I disagree with you regarding the fashion. Andy was the assistant to one of the highest level fashion chiefs in the world. She couldn't walk around looking like a bum. She was representing Miranda and runway and she had to look like she respected the industry.
2:13 I'll never understand why Andy suddenly had a country accent, one that completely disappeared after it graced us with its presence And yep, it depletes Andy's intelligence so much that she even considers trusting the _obviously bullshitting_ twins. They're the most annoying characters in the movie, and there are plenty of those haha. I can't believe they're getting their homework done by Andy. I'm not surprised, but still. Those little shits.
Andy's change in her outfit is important. That is Nigel teaching her everything about style and fashion, how different pieces go together. She also took more initiative to learn on her own by reading fashion articles and journals. All these will make her a more competent assistant to Miranda. She is still being herself, she's just exploring new territories and grow. Yes she can still do her job in her regular clothes, but look at it this way. Her job is very hectic and fast paced, she won't even have time to look through fashion catalogues. By Nigel forcing her to wear different ensemble everyday, she is able to learn fashion at a personal level. Especially for Andrea whom had zero knowledge on fashion, she needed the radical change to learn fast. So by being in different outfits everyday, she has more knowledge on fashion hence does better at her job.
How long did it take y'all to figure out the pursing of the lips is why she moved up the preview? She KNEW it was going to be a catastrophe. Hell, we see her looking at it in the sketch book right when Andy walks in.
You have to watch Meryl Streep in SHE DEVIL with Rosanne Barr…. She’s hilarious in this 80’s movie… she’s is almost like the character in Death Becomes Her…
You wouldn't go to work in a bank in jeans and a t-shirt if a suit is the expectation. You wouldn't wear whatever you want to work at McDonalds. You have to wear the uniform the job requires.
I am here cause I’m always hoping another creator would react to this movie. It’s my comfort movie. The dress scene is iconic. Thank you for your video 🙏🏼
Though I don't approve of Nate's infantile behaviour in the relationship crisis situation (all the lip pouting and "you are bad, I want my good girl back" attitude), I agree with your "parting ways" comment. I can (to a degree) sympathise with Nate's frustration because sometimes when your SO's life changes rapidly (even if it's a "positive" change like new job), not only the very speed of adjustment you have to make can be traumatizing but the subsequent change of your couple's dynamic as well. Your partner may start concealing some job-related things from you or just stop sharing altogether (too busy, the job has too many "nuances" he/she thinks you won't understand or be interested in etc.), and this can be really painful, especially for a person with certain self-esteem or abandonment issues. As for Andy herself, after watching the movie several times and reflecting on her interactions with two male figures - her bf and Christian - I came to a conclusion that our girl definitely has some masochistic traits, not that it is necessarily a bad thing in itself )) She just doesn't see any problem with men in her life taking charge/telling her what to do in the moments when she's stressed-out, confused or simply tired.
Dude she works for a fashion magazine. Dressing like a grandma is not appropriate. If this was real there would most likely be a dress code. I love this movie except the ending is wrong. It made it her boyfriend was in the right and not once supported her career choice while he pursued his.

Working in fashion at that level is very visual!!!!! Get rid of those old clothes!!!

the celebration of her losing weight when she was already in a healthy figure was inappropriate though
The Meryl Streep rabbit hole is immense 21 Oscar nomination winning 3, 33 Golden Globe nominations winning 9. Beyond compare
Imagine if you went in front of Miranda with the bunny ears.

I have similar feelings about the ending and her friends / bf frustrate me too. Le sigh. Still a great movie and reaction!

Loved your take. Wise and measured.

I liked your reaction, specially the way you edited your video reaction. Greetings from cali-colombia 🇨🇴
The outfits, the ladies, and Stanley Tucci make this movie, and I will stand by my opinion that Miranda is Nigel's villain and not Andi's.
Death Becomes Her is iconic!
I loooooooove your reactions!

It was just one year. It was planned. He has a demanding job too. Nate and her friend Lily were trash. At least Doug understood.
Now we're doing classy movies.

I literally had a boss like this in male form!
Please react to "The proposal" with Ryan Raynold and Sandra Bullock !!!!!!
Yes!
This is one of my favorite movies!!😂
I really enjoyed your thoughts on this movie.
Have you ever seen a movie called The Intern with Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro? It's very sweet.
I haven't seen The Intern, I'll keep that one in mind, thanks!
The morphing of man and electric rabbit continues!
look at the year this book and moive came out also there are people who can type that fast

People say there's a different ending in the book.

This'll cheer you up: they didn't get back together. They just had that talk and parted on friendly terms.
I need you to see stranger things 🥰

Nice don't have to read the book
Miranada the best.
You need to understand the arch of this movie.
You want to put one word to Meryl Streep? Try 'flaaaaaaaaacid '.
