    Nice test! Quick question: The battery charger which came with the quadcopter lights read when I connect the battery to it. And when I plug it into the computer's USB it remains red. Is this normal? I was expecting it to turn green if it charges. Also, it feels like there's a loose connection in the charger so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to expect.

    I have the X5c, I know for sure it will fly in mild wind. I did take it up in one that was too strong it even handled it but was fun to land as it was blown like a kite.

    My dad gave me one for Christmas. I'm having a lot of fun with it and it seems to fly really good. I ve beat the cap out of it but it keeps flying. Battery life sux. I get about 5 minutes, mostly indoor flying, and it takes a bit 2 hours to charge!! Thats also flying without the camera attached! Needs more and/or bigger batteries and a rapid charger. Lots of fun though.

    Because of the wind issue, my opinion is this quad is not much (if any) an upgrade from X5C. Having said that I am more concerned with maneuverability and not that much into the photog. It may be a very good platform for video.

  • @frankbarajas

    Does this version still use the 7mm motors? If so, then with the camera, guards and gear on this quad might not have the power needed to fight against stronger winds. I have seen good results with people using the more powerful 7mm black motors from Micro Motor Warehouse. Just a thought.
    Also, keep in mind, this is a Camera quad so keeping it flying level would be an advantage, so perhaps this in the programming?

    I am wondering if there is a large enough weight and size difference compared to the X5C-1 to have contributed to the wind problem. I must say that my X5C-1 has a much better yaw rate but it also has much trouble flying in the wind but not to the extent this one does. How does the weight and overall size compare?

    so when it couldn't fight the wind it was in expert mode?
    Seems really under-powered like its the x5c-1 motors and board in a heavier frame I wonder if it will manage with an 808 camera definitely wont manage round here there always at least a 5mph wind. Looks like the jjrc h12c might be a better choice for a low cost camera quad.

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  9 лет назад +1

      hawk 4 reason It really appears to be a flight control programming issue. It's like someone may have accidentally put a + or - in front of an equation for the wind. As a result, the quadcopter gradually dampens its pitch when flown upwind, and increases pitch going downwind.

    Hey, have you had problems with the big propeller gear slipping too far down the shaft and becoming disengaged from the small gear? I had quite a few sort of hard crashes while learning and finally one of my propellers quit turning. I finally figured it out and was able to push the big gear back onto the shaft further and it works fine now. I have to do this every so often. Any ideas on how to keep it from slipping? I thought about a dab of super glue but then thought I'd ask you first.

    I have the sw version which struggles in the wind too. It seems to me that after a few seconds flight the quad doesn't settle completely level. The back dips lower so when you throttle forward it's more level and is in more of a hover than forward position. Have you noticed the same?

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  9 лет назад

      Andy Frost I haven't noticed it with my sw. But I've heard both ways, and believe that there may be two different versions of the flight control board for this quadcopter.

    Hi Q101, what's the difference between gyro calibration with manual trimming?

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  7 лет назад

      There should be no need for trimming if you place the quadcopter on a perfectly flat and level surface when you did the gyro calibration. But there will always be some minor error in the calibration (say the surface wasn't as level as you thought), and you can smooth that error out using the trim buttons.

    Does this use the same transmitter as the X5C-1?
    Does the manual mention the use of a magnetic compass anywhere?
    I looked at all the material I could find on the sales sites, and the word magnetic wasn't mentioned. IMO, any new QC with headless that doesn't use a magnetic sensor isn't worth considering.

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  9 лет назад

      dscinaz You can use the X5C controller for flight controls and camera only. But the headless mode feature doesn't work with the X5C controller. I don't think that it's magnetic as there is no calibration procedure that I'm aware of.

    • @dscinaz
      @dscinaz 9 лет назад

      Quadcopter 101 Thanks for the info about the transmitter. I'll be interested in seeing how the performance of the QC sorts out. I really doubt that the absence of a calibration required for a magnetic compass is sufficient to judge whether they use one or not. The Trantula X6 doesn't use the word magnetic explicitly, but all of the other words about the IOC mode strongly suggest one is used. If you can switch headless on and off, repeatedly and still have RTH work well after strenuous flying, then it almost certainly has to be a magnetic sensor. Nothing about headless mode or RTH should require the sensor to return an accurate reading. All it has to be is drift free over the length of the flight. If you told the QC to set RTH at 30 deg, then that would require calibration. I'm really surprised the engineers that produce these things don't insist that they advertise a mag sensor when there is one. It should be a game changer. I'm also surprised so far, that I haven't detected much enthusiasm from the readers. Maybe it's like bifocals, nobody is anxious to tell everybody when they need them.

    Hey Quadcopter, i just got this model and been enjoying flying this model in headless mode, makes it so much easier to fly...i don't know what happened but one of my motors is running so much slower then others, ordered another motor, just replaced it and it still does not spin properly, still doing the same thing as old one, any suggestions?

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  9 лет назад

      ncsurfer0322 Have you tried turning the problem propeller by hand? Do you notice any unusual resistance as compared to the other three? If so, dirt and debris can get inside the gear cover in a crash. If it gets into the gear teeth, it can overstress the motor. But this debris can be cleaned from between the teeth with an old toothbrush, or a pin for those [articularly stubborn grains of sand. ruclips.net/video/LzzD3BPVvH0/видео.html

    • @hawk_202
      @hawk_202 9 лет назад

      meh probably not its worse at fighting wind, slower, the camera is no better, and it probably wont do anything more than the x5c the new model of the x5c-1 that I got seems to have a faster yaw rate but again until you break your x5c-1 I dont see any point.

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  9 лет назад

      oAwesomeJayo The headless mode feature is good for return to home for beginner fliers. It actually works. It can also be used for night flying, and camera fly-by panning of ground objects. But I can't recommend this quadcopter until this wind issue is corrected. When the X5C was first released, it also had issues with its flight control software (lots of in-flight wobble). But Syma quickly corrected that problem with the X5C-1. Now the X5C-1 (or upgraded X5C) is the most popular quadcopter to date for new fliers. Hopefully Syma can also quickly correct this similar problem.

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  8 лет назад

      David Zuniga You can calibrate the gyros if it drifts a lot.
      1) Turn on the quadcopter and place it on a flat and level surface.
      2) Turn on and bind the transmitter. Center all trim tabs.
      3) Leaving the quadcopter undisturbed, move and hold both control sticks to their lower right corners. Hold them there until the quadcopter's lights blink. If they don't blink, then try lower left corners, lower outboard, or lower inboard until you notice the lights blink.
      4) Let go of the sticks and try flying.

    I almost bought this model.Fortunatelly I watched this video, done some research on the net and I am not buying this model.Lost my Syma X5C due to my lack of experience cause I screwed up with the bearings and by the time I was on the way to bring it back to the departure point it lost power and got lost....
    This headless function is a super feature for a beginner like me but just not on that model.I d rather buy the X5C again cause never had any issues with it , it flew well even with the wind (to a certain extent of course) The X5C is a very good value for money.Did not like the door for the batteries cause it was quite hard to insert a slightly bigger stronger (750MaH) batteries and the cam was not easy to remove, but overall it s great quad for the money.The Syma X8 looks much more like a more serious quad but the control distance of max 50 meters is stupid and the only reason I am not buying it for the moment.My budget for the new quad is not yet defined but I am prepared to go up to 150$ for something serious with a good camera, headless mode...FPW is not a must for me so I amoverwhelmed with the choice but gotta be carefull not to buy something with issues such as this revision of the Syma 5.
    Any suggestions are wellcome....
    Thank You Quadcopter 101 for your informations and your time spent to help others, especilly beginners like me.....

  • @wingmanalive

    Totally not valid since it's so old of a vid but this quad is so light it's almost impossible to control in even light wind. I've owned like 11 of these and they are indoor only or outdoor with ZERO wind. They're fun toys but that's all they are. The brushed motors will fail eventually and you'll find it's cheaper to just buy another drone than go through the trouble of replacing them. In Oct of 2018 these can be had in the $35 range.

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  6 лет назад

      This particular model X5SC had a bug in its software that would cause the drone to tilt away from the direction of the wind (instead of into it). In other words, someone accidentally put a - sign where a + sign should be in the software. The end result was that the X5SC could not be flown in the wind. Here's a comparison of the X5SC vs the original X5C flying in the wind ruclips.net/video/4u95LfK9Xx0/видео.html

    Need help. I cant fly it. The two back Rotors wont let my fly. I try to take off but it tips on just 2 legs. Kinda like a handstand

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  7 лет назад +1

      It sounds like your back propellers are not installed properly. Note that there are two types of propellers and motors, clockwise and counter-clockwise. You may have installed the wrong direction propeller for that motor. Hold the quadcopter and spin the motors. If any are blowing air upwards (instead of down), then that propeller is the wrong direction propeller for that motor. Take a close look at the following picture, taking note of the two different shapes of propellers, and which arms they are installed on (notice how they alternate between each arm. The idea is to counter torque). Make your installation match this picture li3.rightinthebox.com/images/1500x1500/201605/tsen1462434308207.jpg

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  7 лет назад

      No I did not. But that does not mean that the factory might not have made a mistake in assembly. Is it possible to take a picture of the auqadcopter showing all the propellers? Or maybe a short video showing the quadcopter's propellers, and the problem that you experience when taking off? Include a link to the picture or video here.

    • @Mjdecker1234

      I get about 10 minutes with camera 15 minutes with out that's on a guestimate I'll record it and let you know but for £10 you can buy 5 more batteries with a splitter so you can charge all 5 at once with a max time of 45 minutes so if you do what I have (5 batteries plus the one with the copter) you can get and easy hour out of it if you return swap batteries and go again. Well worth the money

      WOT Cinematic Not really. It's very gentle and perfect for learning the basics. But instead of this one, I always recommend the original Syma X5C for new fliers, due to its excellent stability, durability, and ease of flying. And it even has a camera too. Use it to learn the basics of flight with. Let this cheap quadcopter take the inevitable crashes and bangs of a beginner flier. And if you break it, every part on it is cheap, widely available, and easily replaceable. Later as your flying skills improve and you're not crashing as much, then consider something better/more expensive. ruclips.net/video/y93vzA-KRlM/видео.html

      Quadcopter 101 I have a five unit and six unit charger for my X5C-1 batteries. I've charged 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 batteries all at once on several occasions. (all 600maH) I've watched the lights sitting on my desktop while at the computer to see how each battery charges. All batteries charged the same length of time and that was the same length of time as charging a single battery....about 90 minutes. Apparently each "channel" is capable of providing the same full amperage to each station.

      seems every few seconds she was goung into vortex ringstate...thanks to quad101 i can save my birds from that..
      i made that flight a very short one so i wouldnt hurt the motors..
      i made a credit card mount and now my x8c hauls this camera with no problem at all
      so if my x8c struggled at 1st with it then no way would a x5c lift it...
      might consider the 808 keychain camera for the x5c...carries it with no problem...
