This is totally unrelated but I absolutely adore the patches you've put on your sketchbook cover, they're so pretty 😭❤️
Thank you!!
I was so bothered by the fabric cover in the sense that no stickers hold onto that... until I remembered that I have a few stick on patches ;) I don't do sketchbooks that don't have an absurd amount of stuff glued on them XD
Hi Eve, greetings from Hungary! I love your channel, very reliable and informative: I always check your videos before buying a new (or even an old, vintage) art supply. You helped me a lot since I started my watercolour adventures in January 2023. The Demi palette seems to be very useable and useful with watercolour paints. I was considering buying the Pocket and the Folio palette, but maybe I will exchange the Folio for the Demi palette. (Or just buy all of them, and don't listen to my brain/ wallet. 😅) Thank you for this video!
Whatever you choose, I don't think you can choose wrong :) (and let me know what you get, if you end up getting anything!)
Ooh, I love your mini palette color selection!! A really lovely autumn palette.
The format of these palettes isn't quite my preference, because I am ridiculously picky about literally everything once I develop an actual interest, but they're a really nifty idea. They really helped popularise the concept of the business card case travel palette!.
Thank you!! :D
Yes, I agree!! I love how they help spread out the idea that a paint setup can be this small little thing that you carry with you all the time. It doesn't have to be a huge thing. I also love how helpful if can be for those days of very limited spoons XD
@@EveBolt I agree with the need for a small set up so I can paint from bed or the sofa on bad days. I really like these and I'm definitely going to look them up. The smallest I had seen was the portable painter micro, but only has room for 6 half pans. Definitely doable for just split primaries or limited palette, but these super thin, small palettes are great for when you want more choice. I love both ranges, though have to say I love the super bright colours in the larger pallette. 💕
They are really cute, albeit small they seem practical to use. If only i needed more watercolour palettes :D
Haha, yes! Most of us don't "need" new palettes anymore...... buuuuuut
They are very practical! Which is awesome!!!
I can always have more palettes, even if my husband does despair at that idea. 😄
I love this soo much! One of these is on my wishlist. Thank you so much for this video.
Thank you so much, Karia!
I didn't mention it in the video because I didn't have the code then, but I have a 15% discount code, good through Nov 30th: BOLT15
I don't know if it can be helpful and I'm not trying to enable, but it's there. Just in case :)
As always your insights are so helpful! I really appreciate you taking some time to discuss the Etcher watercolor journal. I have heard such good things about them but (sigh) the price was holding me back. I love that. :) ... "comfort watercolor palette!" Ha ha. I have one but its a bit bigger, not as compact. Hmmm... maybe time to switch it up. ;) Thanks for sharing! You are a gem!!! :)
Thank you so much! :D
I will be making a video about the Etchr journal when I've filled it (I fill them relatively fast) and I'll talk more about my impressions then. They are very expensive, I'd be super hesitant before splurging on that (I was sent these to try out, luckily). The demi palette is officially my comfort palette from now on, I'll have to make more pans for the sake of customization XD
@@EveBolt I anxiously await your review of the Etchr journal and will perch on the fence for a while longer before purchasing one. I see cats sit on the fence all the time. Why can't I? LOL I need another palate like an octopus needs another tentacle but I am feeling quite tempted about the mini palette... I HAVE TO STOP BUYING AND SPEND MORE TIME CREATING!! Ha Ha Ha Lots of love and big hugs your way. Stay safe, stay sane and stay lovely!
I love your little sketch paintings! Those palettes are really fun. I love my tiny Etchr sketchbook, but I've only used it twice, so I'll look for those qualities in mine, too, as I use it more. Thanks for the review!
Thank you!!
I'd be curious to hear what you make of the Etchr sketchbook (eventually), I don't know that many people who use it. It would be great to share impressions.
@@EveBolt It'll take a while, as you said, but I'll try to keep you posted. :-)
Cute idea.
I agree! :)
I love both of those palettes! Especially the demi for taking along on adventures!
I agree!! The demi palette is so small, but well balanced. It'd be one of the smallest things in my bag XD
Smol painting friend. 😍
Thank you for the video Eve! The palettes seem to be really handy, but most importantly I enjoy listening to you describing them. The way you carry narrative is very calming and soothing. I love the little paintings you made, they are charming.
Sending lots of love your way!
Glad you like them! And thank you so much :D
Thanks Eve. Always like that Official Canadian Dinner Jacket :-)
Thanks!! Hehe, gotta love a good buffalo plaid ;)
Lovely super portable palettes! Great color choices!
Thank you so much! :D
I love your color choices. You're so very creative. Thanks for yet again another fantastic video! You're awesome! 😻
Thank you so much! I'm happy you approve of my color choices! :D
Really fun little kit 😍
I agree!!! Thank you :)
Thank you! I love the mini palettes, going to consider creating a couple for this summer. I use Etcher watercolor sketch books, typically using both sides too. They accept washes really well with minimal buckling. I really enjoy your work.
Thank you so much! :)
The small half-palette is so tiny, yet very efficient! As you use the Etchr books and paint on both sides of the paper, did you notice a texture for the verso of the paper? It's not consistently the same pages throughout the book due to the nature of bookbinding paper signatures, but still noticeable.
@@EveBolt Yes, there is a very slight difference. One side seems a little fuzzy, the other more smooth.
Sorry, so abrupt with my response. I do like the tidiness of the binding, somedays though I fantasize about making a journal with a variety of papers. I'd have to put away the five other projects I started first. 🥴
Good video as always, useful and fun to watch.
Have you seen the Derwent graphitint pallette? Looks quite unique, and there's very little out there about it.
Thank you! :D
I've seen it, in the sense that I've seen the listing for it, but it's not a priority for me to test at the moment. I'll keep it in mind, though!
Adorable. I saw them on artemiranda.es, on the other hand they also seem so ... unnecessary.
I would love to get one as a present, but I don't think I would ever buy one.
But I think there are people and situations that can really benefit from this palette.
Yes! It's nice to have the option.
Some people will possibly put their own version together from a business card holder, but I prefer the Art Toolkit one. It's been around for a bit so they really refined and improved the palette (better paint tins, nice white mixing surface that doesn't bead, etc) :)
They're adorable! I am not sure I could reliably use them as I'm horrendously forgetful - the leave your keys at work and realize at your front door forgetful. (More than once.) 😅 The downside of tiny palettes is losing them..
BUT. If these were magnetic, that would change things...... Maybe stick one of the magnets often on half pans on....... because then the tiny palette is physically attached to you, or your water bottle, etc.... so it's maybe BETTER for the woefully forgetful. Hmmm... 🤔
I feel an impulse purchase coming on.
Ooo, I really love the idea of the magnetic palette! Or you can carry it in a super large case so you don't lose it XD
(In case of impulse purchase, I have a discount code you can use : BOLT15 It's for 15% off, good through Nov 30th. )
@@EveBolt or even inside and supplementing a little tin! Ooohh these are good ideas
I had been watching her website (hoping for a Black Friday special or sale) and they don't currently have the pans with the paint already poured. Which I don't mind as I like your colors better anyway. Other than that I love these and your excellent review. Thank you ;)
Oh! I just got news from Maria that she has setup a discount code for people who watch the review!!
SPECIAL CODE - 15% discount code, good through Nov 30th: BOLT15
I don't know if that's what you where looking for, but it's there! (Also, it would seem the pre-filled palettes have been retired, but more new things are coming!)
@@EveBolt Yay Eve !!! You are the best ***
Thanks for doing this review! This really helps me deciding buying this palette :). On a side note, how do you like those raphael brushes...? I want to buy them but I didn’t see reviews on them anywhere... Thank you!
Thank you! :)
The brushes were fine when I used them on this painting, but I haven't used them a lot... so far! I have to work on that! ;)
These are so cute! And about the paper, is this something that the etchr features or most watercolor papers have the back side being this different? If so I wonder if there's any watercolor paper/brand that both sides are equal
Thank you! :)
As far as I know, most watercolor papers have a different texture on the back. The only paper that I've managed to find that has a similar texture on both sides is the Stonehenge Aqua Cold Press. I've bought Imperial sheets of it to cut down and make sketchbooks so that I can test it further. I'm not sure, but I think that it doesn't like tape or masking fluid (which is an issue for me)... so the quest for the perfect paper continues XD (Also, keep in mind that I'm in Canada and don't have access to all of the papers out there)
Hi, Eve - I have both of those tiny palettes, but have yet to put paint in them, since I don't go anywhere, thanks to Covid. Really enjoy your product reviews - thank you! --April
Hi April! Thank you!
Yeah, this is not the year for plein air painting... 😑 I hope you'll be able to put these palettes to good use soon, as they are a lot of fun!
These makeup pans are a cute idea for travel but be aware that they can in fact rust. It's a myth that stainless doesn't rust.
Yeah, I've had my fair share of rusted stainless steel XP
I think these are more rust-resistant than the previous version, but they are not sold as rust-proof, as far as I know :)
How will you keep the white Etchr cover "clean" or will you paint it? I think you had the white one.
I'm not bothered about the cover getting dirty, so I probably won't do much. I stuck some patches with adhesive backs on it, since regular stickers won't stick :)
I alwalys love cute palette! Too bad it's not available here... cute palette + waterbrush + paper towel = very compact to carry around... but waterbrush is hard too control...😆
I hear you!! I struggle a lot with waterbrushes, which is why I don't usually end up using them. Water control is a nightmare with them XD
♥
Thank you! :D
A little pet pallette
Haha, yes!! XD Maybe I should name mine?
I can't open this. The rest of RUclips seems fine.
That's odd, it seems to be working for me. Apparently there was a bug with the platform, but I don't know about any details.
@@EveBolt yes, I couldn’t get anything else to work, when I tried after my comment. Seems to be working fine, now.
@@alisonjames8082 I'm glad it's fixed!! :D
