Hello. So the datasheet pulled directly from Subarus official media site for the 2025 Legacy states the XT having port+direct injection (link below). However there is no other official documentation from Subaru stating the FA24F received the D4-S system from the FA24D. Unfortunately I don’t have the car anymore, so if you own a ‘25 Legacy XT, please feel free to update us all if in fact port injection is present. I never verified myself because I trusted they knew their own product, guess I’ll have to start compression checking engines and measuring bore and stroke myself too! lol s3.amazonaws.com/subarumedia.iconicweb.com/mediasite/attachments/25MY_Legacy_Specs_-FINAL.pdf
Curious as well...Didn't think Subaru would add port injection randomly for one of their models when the Ascent and wrx only has direct injection with the same motor.
Thanks awesomely for sharing your great knowledge, and sad to see the Legacy go, I still have a mint Subaru Leone in my shed, as old as pushrods. I especially never own an Nissan with a CVT, terrible for the VQ.
The better sedans appear to be getting killed off not just because of the popularity of SUVs/Crossovers, but the comparatively lower profit margins. I’m still amazed (and saddened) that some iconic brands don’t offer a single sedan anymore. Despite your obvious love of Subarus, you gave this iconic model an unbiased review which is a credit to your standards. Great value, too. Thank you, Sarah. 👍👍👍
I'm still surprised at how unaware people still are of how the fuel economy regs in the US are rigged against traditional cars. Subaru doesn't actually want to sell the Legacy, not just because the Outback sells so much better but also because the Legacy isn't a light truck and costs them more on their EPA CAFE calculations. The exact same footprint, even body shell like in the Impreza/Crosstrek, counts differently depending on whether it counts as a car or as a light-truck. So what ends up happening is that the manufacturers help the car versions die off by reducing selection and availability. And then the industrial gaslights people with "See, Americans don't want small vehicles, you want a big truck. Don't you want a big truck? People will think you have a small willy if you don't."
I'm disappointed but not surprised that many manufacturers quit making sedans. Most people want crossovers because they're easier to enter and exit. And most people still shopping for a sedan will buy the safe Honda or Toyota, so nobody else has financial incentive to build them. I'd hoped Subaru could have made enough of their upmarket move, and found enough support for a car-like Outback, to justify doing another Legacy. Sadly, they're going full-tallboy with the next Outback.
Truly a sad time for Subaru imo. It's like they're just losing their soul. The Legacy discontinued, the next Outback won't be a wagon like anymore. Maybe they've been around Toyota too long.
The outback has been a suv wannabe for a while now. *Most "SUVs" are in fact overbloated station wagons. Please auto promoters call them what they are, station wagons.
I'm with you on that, but at the same time nobody buys sedans anymore unless its a sub-compact, wagons is even worse. They can't keep pouring money on something they can't sell 🤷♂️ I rly wish ppl understood that wagons are much better than SUVs
@@StefanEtienneTheVerrgeRep If ricers don't keep buying things they don't need, with money they don't have, to impress people they don't even know, then my stocks won't go up.
Sarah's car reviews are the best. Loaded with detailed information on how these cars are built, down to the individual components (e.g. noting the cooling fans are brushless). Nobody else provides that level of detail.
I have always had a Legacy since 2013. I currently drive a 2016 Premium. They are great for what they are. I live in the frozen north and the AWD makes it easy to get around as long as the snow isn't a foot deep. The mileage is great for being awd with a relatively large four-cylinder. It is the proper size, easy to park with great visibility out of all the windows. I have an Ascent and the 2.4 turbo is powerful. I feel like that motor in the Legacy would make for a decent long-distance, high-speed back country cruiser. I feel like with a set of snow tires, I could cover any road, in any condition in North Dakota, where I live. I have been complaining about not having a Legacy wagon for years. I don't get why they stopped making them. An Outback is a Legacy wagon, with just a body lift and some plastic glued on. The suspension components are even the same. I would have bought the Legacy wagon, especially if they made the GT version again. End of an era.
The 2005-2009 Legacy GT was the best era of the Legacy. Great looking car, great fun car. I had a 05 GT sedan (5mt), an 08 Spec-B (6mt), an 05 OBXT (5mt), and then finally an 05 GT Wagon (5mt). Fun/expensive times. 😅
I had a 2005 GT black, w/5psd manual was an awesome car, upgraded the turbo to a VF52 and turned it myself. Also had two WRX’s and a 23 Sport Legacy. The 23 sport clocked in at 5.8 sec 0-60 on my draggy with the larger WRX wheels and tires. Kinda wish I still had it, but had the option of upgrading to a new Audi S4, just a tad faster at 0-60 at 3.6 sec with no rollout.
You are correct, in 2010 it turned into a Camry. I currently have a 2007 Legacy wagon with a 5MT, even with shot struts, it handles better than the modern Subarus.
I spent this year saving a 2009 Legacy GT 5mt from the junkyard. I finally drove it yesterday and it’s a very impressive car. Much better interior than the WRX of the same generation IMO.
I'm sad to see the Legacy go as well! Since 2006, I have owned 14 Subies.....from the Forester to the WRX STI and I have loved them all! Subaru should have given this model a proper send off. Fantastic review as always Sarah!
Owner of 3 legacy’s here! a 2009 2.5i, a 2010 2.5GT 6 speed and now 2018 3.6r. They just hit the mark when you’re looking for an understated but classy car with AWD and a minimum of power.
@@fp5495 Most types of adaptive headlights were illegal in the US until 2022. Swiveling lights were illegal but additional fixed lights illuminate to the side during turning, however.were not. Fitting tribute to an icon. Motorsports in the 90s, whew. I expected Mazda3 to follow the Legacy into oblivion, but the rotary hybrid Iconic SP is confirmed for production, so ...
We are very happy with our crimson red 22 Legacy Limted XT. It does everything we needed with no fuss, rides well, comfy seats, accelerates briskly and we think it looks sharp, too.
Sniffle! I bought a 2024 Limited model last year (was a great deal), I looked at the XT and Sport but couldn't get any money off on them. The legacy is smooth to drive and just eats miles in comfort with a decent sound system. It is a ton of car for the money. Even the base and premium have all the safety features and ride comfort for a price that is very reasonable. This car did not deserve to die!
I love your description of different parts of the car. I love that you’re super mechanical as well as technical. I love your whimsical manner, and honest review of this car. Thanks for all of the great descriptions of this Legacy Plus you’re a fine looking lady.
Sad losing a legacy vehicle, LoL. The bolster test was amazing due to your wardrobe choice, absolutely beautiful interior, if you know what I mean. Wow. Love you and your humor, the cars are nice too. A shame no dealer group has selected you for reviewing their products You do great, selecting and researching you subjects. Sarah your right Subaru hasn't done the legacy justice in this final iteration. I think you found your next giveaway project. Build a rally spec legacy STI 6speed manual with all the WRX STI parts 😂 and send it!
Mr Google advises that Sept-21 was when the Legacy stopped being sold new down under here in NZ, but you can get a very limited edition 2024 (TODOROKI) WRX 2.4. This is what should have been offered for your US market as a collectors end of run. IMHO.
I have fond memories of a 1st gen Legacy Wagon with a 5-speed manual that I bought from my parents (Dad had his knees replaced and needed an automatic). It had great handling on backroads and I eventually put wider tires on it for more fun. It was a bit of a sleeper and I never got a speeding ticket in it. At the time, driving a brown station wagon was like having an invisibility cloak for speeding. I still consider it to be the perfect size and layout for fun driving and practicality for a small family. It had the same internal carrying capacity as the contemporary small SUVs. I even bought it back from the insurance company and repaired bodywork after it had hit a deer and was "totaled". I never repainted the black replacement hood and after the accident it was called the "Boo-boo Ru". It lived another six or so years and I eventually gave it to a nephew.
My weekend car is a 2011 Legacy and at 176,000 miles it’s still fun to drive and I hope it lasts to 276,000. But I really kinda want a 2025 Legacy Sport in my garage now. Thanks for doing this review, Sarah.
The Camry and Accord don't really have much of anything over this car, but this car does have the AWD standard on all trims, including as you mentioned some under 30k and 25k over the Camry and Accord. The Subaru marketing people were lacking, not this car. Another well-done review by Sarah.
The Toyotaization of Subaru is complete. Holding onto my 07 Impreza (206k) and 08 Outback XT (180k) for dear life. Considering snagging an 07 Legacy to complete the set.
Do it. Do it now. I have an 08 Legacy with only 110k miles and I'm not going to let it go. If I could find another with half the miles I'd buy it and store it for future use.
The first Subaru I drove was a rental Legacy in Montana 20 years ago. We drove the snot out of it and that started our love affair with Subaru. My wife has a Forester and I have an Outback. Really enjoy watching your reviews. Thanks
The manual mode on the CVT isn’t for racing. It is for command driving such as in very hilly terrain. If you ever drive a Subaru CVT in the mountains, you’ll love the ability to engine brake on steep inclines while you watch everyone else torch their brakes.
Made my Sunday by putting out a new video! Lovely car, shame that we're losing cars to SUVs and crossovers now. Heard your comment that few people watched your Focus build so I watched the entire playlist and thoroughly enjoyed it. I can only hope that someday the project will be resumed... love your videos, high quality content very nicely filmed and edited and with lots of humour and fantastic running gags. Please continue as you are, it’s perfection.
Admittedly I never paid much attention to Subees except the WRX, but this was a great review. For this video I decided to wrap you around my head using headphones. It was a trip through different octaves.
That slingshot effect is the perfect way to put it, SJ Forester XT gives the same kind of experience: when you floor it you get a feeling like it would take a breath and then start accelerating. Loved that feeling.
My first 'fast' car was a 93 Legacy turbo sedan with the 5 speed manual. Super fun little car that not many people remember. Glad to see some love / shout outs to the OG Leggy
I own a 2020 Legacy non-turbo. It really does have a 650 mile highway range. It's a very centered drive. I like all the granny safety features - but then again I'm 66 and the target audience for that stuff. I have previously owned a Camry and this is a much better car to drive. Will it last 500,000 miles? Probably not - more in the 250,000 plus range with oil changes. This is the sleeper deal in the Subaru lineup. Get them while you can.
Excellent review as always. It is sad to see another sedan leave the US market. I see so many Legacies in the PNW, surprised Subaru would cancel it. It is a sad day. Excellent editing and love the retro clips.
Hey I just want to say I really enjoy your videos. I think Subaru made a mistake with their media release because they are discontinuing the vehicle. It's clearly not your fault. Thanks again for posting these videos.
The legacy was our Gateway into Subaru life. From there, we have had an Outback, Impreza and Forester. Still love our ‘15 Legacy limited. It has everything and imo still competes with cars today despite being 10 years old.
My first car when I was 16 was a well used ‘93 Legacy Sport Sedan. With ‘only’ 160hp, it was absolutely amazing to my 16-year-old self. A shame that the Legacy is going away, but thanks for the memories, Subie 😉
If this had the 6 speed Manual, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I still measure up my '19 WRX to my old 2005 LGT which despite being slower, It was a much more pleasing ride. One of my most regrettable trade-ins I've done.
I had the 2022 Legacy Limited XT and that was my favorite car by far. Smooth is the operative word as you said and it was deceptively quick and I did have some fun tossing it around some mountain roads before I traded it (downgraded...kind of...to a 2018 Forester XT Touring). That was also my 3rd Legacy and I loved each one of them. They never would win a fight in the looks department but I'm just as upset as you that Subaru let it go out with a whimper. The Legacy deserved a limited Spec B version with STI tuned suspension, performance tires, some added styling flair (I had the spoiler on mine and it looked so much better), and maybe even some more horsepower 300+. Sad to see this car go.
They seem well designed, and built. Very impressed with my friends Outback touring with the 2.4 turbo . It was a great cruiser for long trips, and the optioned out interior was really comfortable and upscale.
yeah, I always ask the subbie reps at the shows when they were bringing back the Legacy 2.5GT SpecB... so I guess the answer is "you gotta make your own!"
Seems the way it's all going with manufacturers getting rid a lot of models. Great send off and love the rally footage back when they really had a raspy sound from the flat four.
This seems like basically an unraised version of the Outback XT. I had a '21 Outback XT lease (for work) which had this drivetrain and other than the brakes not being terribly robust, the drivetrain, packaging, seats, ride and quality were first-rate, even compared with my wife's Porsche Macan. The safety stuff on the '21 Subie was pretty robust, though I think they are improved on my '24 Crosstrek Sport. My sister-in-law has one of the current-generation Legacy XT models. I wish they could have redesigned it on the existing chassis, and maybe upgraded the brakes so they aren't starting to warp at 25,000 miles. Great review as always!
As I was scrolling thru the list of vids and saw the car in the thumbnail, it genuinely felt like I was looking at a Ford Taurus. Whatever happened to the hot designs and excitement that brought in enthusiasts. This just looks like a family sedan.
Had a gunmetal gray 1989 RS Legacy 25 years ago, it's one of my regret cars. I was broke and couldn't afford the repairs for the tappet noise it developed. One day I'll buy another, can't beat the burble it made.

Just picked up a 2023 Touring XT and have been LOVING it. I miss having a manual transmission, but the overall driving experience is soooooooo nice.
That top is pure 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. Awesome.
I really wish they did a specB, with a six speed and the Bilstein suspension, for the final year.
@@Smithcraft1 build one yourself, do it with all oem parts and it’ll be a 1 of 1 rare car.
Thank you @@SarahnTuned
I already have an '08 specB and that's enough of a challenge!
That play button graphic and visual/animation was awesome!
Truly sad I'll never understand why they would stop production, I wish my F-150 was built as well. Thanks for the Great review.
The first car I ever bought was a Subaru Legacy. Dark metallic green was a great color on it. It was a great car. I still miss it.
It is really sad indeed. Thanks for the video.
Sarah’s reviews are tech savvy))
Thank you for your reviews, get twenty minutes of sun a day !
great review ! love it ! keep it up Sarah !
The production quality of these videos is incredibly high for a self employed business lady. Kudos once again!
My first 'fast' car was a 93 Legacy turbo sedan with the 5 speed manual. Super fun little car that not many people remember. Glad to see some love / shout outs to the OG Leggy
I do remember my '93 Legacy turbo station wagon! Great car. 🙂
They should have given it to a final model like a Spec B model.
Torque Shove = AC Compressor off on my little old 2002 Toyota RAV4. Button faded to nothing in our 23 years. ..Thanks for this emotional upload. :)
Excellent review as always. It is sad to see another sedan leave the US market. I see so many Legacies in the PNW, surprised Subaru would cancel it. It is a sad day. Excellent editing and love the retro clips.
Nice it has a knight rider spying feature! Thanks!
Hey I just want to say I really enjoy your videos. I think Subaru made a mistake with their media release because they are discontinuing the vehicle. It's clearly not your fault. Thanks again for posting these videos.
Another Great Review Sarah, ... I do not need another car, but I'd buy that Legacy , $39K for a new fully loaded awd car! thats a great value
My first car was a salvaged title 1994 Subaru Legacy Wagon. Loved that car.
The legacy was our Gateway into Subaru life. From there, we have had an Outback, Impreza and Forester. Still love our ‘15 Legacy limited. It has everything and imo still competes with cars today despite being 10 years old.
I love all of your car reviews regardless of what it is. I think the Mercedes cargo van was one of your best ever.❤
The legacy was such a cool car. Always wanted the bl5 but got a gg impreza wagon instead. My first Subaru. This model looks really cool.
One of my most regrettable trade-ins I've done.
humm, not sure what made you smile that much for the bolstering test lol, you also make my day on all your videos with your silly jokes, keep it up
I wish they would bring back the one with the six-speed manual.
Cool video thanks. Sad to see it go away.
That dragonfly knew what it was doing 😅
Obviously a nice soft place to land.
@Variable-2-actual Yeah, something like that
I had the 2022 Legacy Limited XT and that was my favorite car by far.
Another great video, and looking amazing as usual ❤
Been driving Subarus since 1998 Outbacks mostly except my 6th is a 2023 Ascent. Really happy with them and the ability to do the maintenance myself.
Honestly if I was in the market for a new car this would be very high on my shopping list! Thanks Sarah!
Had a gunmetal gray 1989 RS Legacy 25 years ago, it's one of my regret cars. I was broke and couldn't afford the repairs for the tappet noise it developed. One day I'll buy another, can't beat the burble it made.
