I think the original The Darkness for ps3 is another trashed classic, it's so imaginative and original. Also, the levels in hell which is portrayed as an eternal WWI no man's land stalemate where if you get mortally wounded, you can't die, you just lay there in pieces in constant excruciating pain for eternity. It's just got this whole beautiful grimy, and extremely original atmosphere. Combine that with the 4 arm play mechanics (2 human arms and 2 hungry human heart eating serpent tentacles) as well as the leveling up, unlocking new abilities and the "shoot out the lights to absorb dark power" interesting gameplay mechanic. It is so badass, and few people have really played it. Definitely something worth looking into if it sounds interesting to you.
I couldn't agree more. I fucking loved every minute of that game, and when I get a hold of a good capture device, I'll put out a review on it. Even the second one was pretty good. Not as good as the first, but still fun and dark.
The Darkness is a masterpiece. The one thing I disliked was using the “darkness guns.” But as a rule, I generally despise energy weapons even in games like the Halo series. So that’s more about me.
I got the second one awhile back and it had fantastic environments, but given the angle of the camera, it was hard to tell what I was supposed to be shooting at.
Great review as always--I really enjoyed this game, and it was one of the titles that got me interested in the Xbox 360 early on. However, it was Lost Planet 2 that really feels like a "trashed classic" to me. I spent countless hours playing that game, maxing all factions, mostly playing coop, and even doing some competitive multiplayer, which I rarely do. It was one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had...much better than "subpar," in my opinion. Shooter fanboys were quick to diss the game because of its Japan origins, it's slightly unconventional control scheme, and corporate reviews. Only two really big flaws if I recall--a story that was barely there, and a depressing lack of Akrid enemies over human ones. Anyway, in the past I've wanted to do a series of video similar to this one. I'd probably start with Nier for the 360/PS3...maybe you've played this, and if so, maybe you could make a video about it in the future.
To be honest, I never played either of them. Wasn't real impressed with what I heard about 2, but I may need to give it a spin. I blame the fact that most of the big reviewers I follow shit on every game anyways.
Avalanche Reviews I'd say it's worth picking up, especially since it's so cheap now. When it first came out, I still lived in Japan, and rushed to a 24 hour gaming store to pick it up at midnight. I played with three random Japanese guys online and we beat the game in the early hours of the morning. Good times.
Sounds good, but I don't know if anyone is really playing the game these days, which sucks since LP2 was designed for coop/multiplayer. If you have a 360, I'd pop in the game to play coop with you if you'd like--but from your videos, I assume you don't play on Xbox...
I LOVE this game. I bought an Xbox 360 for this and Gears of War. What followed was 3 days of calling out of work "sick". I remembered suspecting this was a testing ground for a 3D Bionic Commando. I was more than pleasantly surprised to find out I was right.
Great review! This is one game I've been meaning to revisit for quite some time. It's nice to see it still holds up pretty well visually, considering it's a fairly early last-gen release.
IMO the first game was great but the 2nd one focus so much on co-op multiplayer and by the time 3rd one came out no one bought it. The opposite of red fraction people remember that game but never cared for first two sequels it wasn't until Red Faction: Guerrilla and than last game came out ir was okay but they waited two long and took out hammer. So that franchise died. Don't forget David Hayter(voice of solid snake) was suppose to make a lost planet movie but thanks to 2008 banking crisis that movies is now DOA.
sounds like a fun game, I might pick it up on steam, although I have such a masive backlog of games maybe I should get through those first. Also if you want a game where a grappling hook is the main mechanic the play Just Cause 2: you have a grappling hook that can do almsot anything, even save you from a death drop by hook shotting into the ground... no seriously you can do that. Go ahead and give it a try, it should be on Steam right now and... holy crap it's only $3 now! go buy it today! I think you'll love it.
Avalanche Reviews I'll just go with my standard strategy: wishlist it until it goes on sale for a decent discount. I so think you should try Just Cause 2 just for the grappling hook mechanic. I can't tell if you were being sarcastic when you mentioned that you wished that there was a whole game built around a grappling hook mechanic.
Wow....another of my favorite games. This is the game that kickstarted my xbox live career! Got into clans to play the sequels online...your gaming tastes are impeccable!
Oh man, I loved this game, seeing this vid made me wanna play it again... And BTW, I *loved* LP3, so much, I got it a month of it's release, and played it for, I dunno, almost a year non stop, the campaign was great, albeit short, the game kinda gave you a sense of open world, ultra small, of course, but you still had the freedom to go everywhere, I finished it like, twice in a row, then went online, not many people playing, but still got months of fun with it, never got to open all the multiplayer stuff, so many things... Still, it was worth it, until gamespy closed up, so no online anymore, which sucks, that game multiplayer was awesome. But I get it, I was the only one among my friends who liked it, dunno why, I bet most of them couldn't get through the first stage lol, tough as hell
I have actually heard that 2 and 3 were wayyy better than I thought they were. To be honest, I never played them myself. I watched a bunch of reviews and decided they weren't for me, but now you guys have me second guessing that decision.
While I might give 2 a chance, because I played it for 3 hours and gave up, as everyone said, is too focused on multiplayer, but I dunno, maybe I'll like it this time...
Avalanche Reviews it's not as bad as 2 but its still nowhere near as good as 1 its very forgettable & kind of boring as whole which might be way its developer Spark Unlimited is no longer around.
Hahahaha Everybody Loves Raymond. Classic! I remember being so hyped for this game as it was one of the best looking games to showcase the 360 I got at launch. I tried a demo and was disappointed with the gameplay. I think I just didn't take enough time to get used to the controls though. I'll give it another go! Thanks!
Sometimes, i'm confused when people talking about Lost Planet, Mass Effect, and Dead Space, because those game looks similar to me, even i know Dead Space is fight against Alien Viruses, and Mass Effect are more like RPG than 3rd person action game.
Dark void and Bionic Commando are both trashed on classics imo. Both developed by Capcom in the 2009/2010 era. Another favorite of mine is Extermination for the Ps2.
Yes! I love this game, unfortunately the 2nd didn't hold up in my book. I've heard good thing about the 3rd but it seems it was released at a horrible time.
Ah yes, this game. What a horrible disappointment that one was. It's like the whole game is still in beta. There is barely any context for anything, things just happen for no reason. Just a collection of barely-stringed-together maps with barely-stringed-together mechanics. I suppose if it came out today - i'd call it a game from Early Access. It's so basic and primitive...not that i expected different from creator of Megaman. Here you go, we put you on the map, now go ! -Umm...go where ? To the mission goal, of course ! -Where is the mission goal ? Come to think of it, WHAT IS the mission in the first place ? Yeah...about that...we wont tell you what or where it is, just go find it. -Can i go there faster ? Nope. Instead you can get this mech here, that will drain your enery faster instead, but let you move slower. It also cant dodge anything, and has weapons that are too inaccurate for smaller foes and too weak for bigger ones. -What am i doing in this place anyway ? Ah, yes, almost forgot, here you go, a pack of characters we wont tell you anything about, and as a bonus here's some forced drama you wont care about whatsoever. -Thanks... It's like it was designed for an elevator pitch and never progressed from that point on. "Here, i wrote the game's synopsys on this napkin here during my lunch break, and that's what we'll do, and nothing more, not a single thing."
+Dick Semens really? I played the pc port from the beginning and it was really well optimized, or at least that's how I remembered it. What issues were you having with it?
I played it a long time ago , but from what i remember the controlls(keyboard and mouse ) were bad, eather i couldnt change the mouse sensitiity on a certain axis or mouse acceleration was forced always on. and on a average PC at the time it ran quite badly
Holy cow how much I still remember of this game! Such good design, vital suits and multiplayer!
I think the original The Darkness for ps3 is another trashed classic, it's so imaginative and original. I grew up with Lost Planet 1 and 2. Both are great games in their own right, though I wish Lost Planet 3 had been better.
Even sadder when consider, there isn't a big enough interest for a fan translation. I would have loved to play the cell shaded game.
+Avalanche Reviews its still playable in Japanese I got it for a friend & he had no problems
Didn't even know of this one importing for PS3 near you
The first two lost planet games are some of my favorite shooters of all time. Thanks for giving me a blast from the past
My pleasure!
I got the second one awhile back and it had fantastic environments, but given the angle of the camera, it was hard to tell what I was supposed to be shooting at.

Not too much, lately the only thing I play on it is Persona 4 Arena.
I LOVE this game. I bought an Xbox 360 for this and Gears of War. What followed was 3 days of calling out of work "sick". I remembered suspecting this was a testing ground for a 3D Bionic Commando. I was more than pleasantly surprised to find out I was right.
I was never really an Xbox guy, but after I played the demo for this, it was love at first sight.
Great review! This is one game I've been meaning to revisit for quite some time. It's nice to see it still holds up pretty well visually, considering it's a fairly early last-gen release.
I really does look great.
is there a zx spectrum port?
Nope. Only Commodore64
darn

I liked JC2, but I'm not huge on sandbox games. Still haven't even played sleeping dogs.
Is LP2 any good? I saw it on the bargain bin for $10 and Im mulling it over
Wow....another of my favorite games. This is the game that kickstarted my xbox live career! Got into clans to play the sequels online...your gaming tastes are impeccable!
+achieve1one why thank you good sir!
This is by far one of my favorite games from my teenage years so much fucking fun. Need to replay it
Man, I really liked this game. Never finished it though. Might pick it up again now that the Steam summer sale is on.

Nice review, I may just have to pick this up sometime. :)
It's 15 bucks on Steam. I'd say wait for a good sale and snatch it up.
Nice another good review by Jared
ok I am off to replay it
I'll be honest, I'm getting the urge to reinstall it too.
@@AvalancheReviews I dont mean to disrespect. the game aged well but for us older guys this is kind of remedy. And nostalgia more than pure fun.
Yeah, that's true sometimes.
this one of the first game I've played on xbox360 when I got one and I got to say that your review sum up the experience I had playing that game :)
Thanks man glad you like it!
Hard to believe this game will be 10 years old soon still looks & plays great too bad Crapcom ran it into the ground 2&3 where awful :P
+JayDee284 I've been hearing that 3 isn't as bad as a lot of people made it sound, but I still haven't gotten around to playing it.

+ArtifiShuL Instinct It can be super slow, but oddly, fast paced at the same time. It does take a bit to really get the hang of it.
I'll give it another go! Thanks again!
Please review darksiders 1 and 2
Multiplayer nostalgia hits me hard
I spent a long time just playing the multiplayer demo, back before I had even played the single player.

This was like my 2ed or 3rd title for 360 was wonderful game sadly never checked out 2 and I heard 3 was really really ...bad....
I haven't either, and my friends tell me they're actually pretty good.
this game reminds me of dark souls in some way but with guns,a graplhook and t-eng a
