Ringmasters & VOCES8 - Pseudo-Yoik

- From Stockholm Concert Hall 2023-03-18. This was the encore from our concert together. A humorous piece inspired by the Yoik - a form of phonation which can resemble singing from Lappland. It is not a Yoik and therefore called by the composer himself as Pseudo-Yoik. The lyrics bear no meaning but are there to give form to the music. Great fun to perform as you may see. Hope you'll enjoy it too!

55 years old and a lifetime of vocal performance under my belt. Ringmasters and Voces8 are firmly at the pinnacle of my all-time favorite vocal ensembles. Just uniformly and reliably superb.
I have no idea why youtube suggested me this video. It was one of the best 2 minutes of my life. Emotional, surprising, I had a tear and goose bumps at the same time. You guys are fantastic.
Welcome to our world!
That must be an absolute blast to sing. Not to mention exhausting (both mentally and vocally).
Brilliant. The chromaticism! The dynamics! The foot-stomping!
I am speechless, but I will try and comment. This is one of the most compellingly beautiful vocal arrangements I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. I am old. Really old. That is to say there are rocks younger than me, and I wish to thank each and every performer in this ensemble for their masterful production. Thank you. Blessings from Kansas~
I was there listening to you live on my birthday. Thank's for starting my 23rd year on this planet off with a bang 😊
Im so glad you guys sing together! I can't imagine a more brilliant collaboration! The way you produce the sound is so similar!
No, i still can't find any words to describe how this made me feel. Long time Ringmasters fan, and to hear you blended with other singers in this way was simply sublime.
This looks like the sort of song which is going to take me several attempts to understand jajaja. Keeping it up!
HAha not much to understand about this one.
Excellent
RUclips introduced me to your 2016 Norte Dame AIC video the other day which I promptly listened to 5K times, so I’ve been going down the Ringmaster rabbit hole. My heart is full. And this..this harmony and constant syncopated chaos is just wonderful. I was devastated to hear that you guys were just in the states and I missed it. Hope I get to catch you guys IRL. Thank you for putting all this content out here for us ❤️
Wow!!! ❤💗💖🌟💥💛🌻
Excellent fun!!!
Amazing!!!
Fantastic!
Sensationell !!!
Fantastic!! What a hoot!!
Watching/listening to this for the umpteenth time, it's just such fun and, of course, so beautifully sung (and stamped!)
Awesome, now that's what I was talking about! More please. :-)
Hell yes!!
The collab I didn’t know I needed! You sound amazing together!
Bravissimo😊
This definitely sounds like one of those pieces that is a lot of fun to sing, was it? It’s so different!
Yes! It's really fun.
OMG, it’s very fun to sing, especially in a large choir
amazing.
Supurb!👏
What a totally winning collaboration! VOCES8 suggested to pop over to your site and now I‘m subbed to you too. But I‘m sorry, VOCES8 will always stay my heart‘s buddies….. (but you‘re very good too!)
😍😃
Superlative - even if it was Voces7 (no Chris Moore).
Dayum, I LOVE seeing professionals enjoying themselves!
He was severely missed. Got to do it with him in London two weeks ago.
As I'm making my way through this Ringmasters & VOCES8 collaboration, I'm hoping I'll stumble on a piece that get VOCES8 singing more in the barbershop style. I'm certain they'd do it well, and I think it would be fun to see and hear.
I really should do vanity searches more often. This piece isn't performed as much these days as it used to be, partly I suspect because of concerns about appropriateness, although I have tried to make it very clear that this is not supposed to emulate, imitate or rip off actual traditional Sámi yolk. The clue is sort of in the title. But then again, post-modern irony is a poor defence against allegations of cultural appropriation. Great performance, though arguably it could have been more insane. 🙂 - Jaakko Mäntyjärvi
極上のヨイク……
Give me more Yoik....
Wonderful stuff! Another excellent rendition of this is by the now-defunct Talla Vocal Ensemble on their Punapaula / Red Ribbon album: ruclips.net/video/l3chwrA0tEA/видео.html
I have to say this needs to be more painfully nasal. Great work!
🤣
Not nasal enough, and missing a bit of the overdramatics implied.
Ringmasters are a gift to BHS!
