      Remember the nurse from Cool Kids Don't Cry. The scene where Akkie (MC) and some of the other kids poured salt in her coffee end you could see how her expression conveyed happiness over how her patients at the children's cancer ward could still enjoy being kids. But at the same time pain over knowing that statistically some of them lived on borrowed time.

    I actually suffer from this and it’s terrifying how all of a sudden you get to a point that your lying about your weight and doing all this sneaky stuff just so ppl worry less about you only for them to worry more and in turn make you do even more “cover up”. I always thought I was fine, but I’ve seen pictures. It’s still very easy to fall into old habits but I constantly have checks in place so I do eat and get enough nutrients. My rock bottom was when I was dating a junkie cuz I didn’t want anyone worrying about me, and he ended up leaving me cuz he was scared he would wake up one day, see me dead from malnourishment, and proceed to OD cuz of a broken heart. He was healthy to point and he was always so worried about making sure I was good and fed. He died a year or so ago and I’m just here trying to hold on to this life I was given.

When she said she needed to go, I saw that she hadn't swallowed the yoghurt, and it was all still in her mouth (It was a super super small yoghurt, so it isn't hard to fit it in your mouth) and she was nog going on the toilet, she was going to spit it out in the sink. I told the nurse sitting next to us and he just straight up didn't believe me and let her go. Another guy who overheard it, told me I was a bad friend. I was so mad. I had bulimia for 2 years on and off during high school. I wasn't entirely sure if I was depressed at some point but I know I used to be really insecure, had low self esteem, too-naive-toxic-first-relationship issues, and personal problems at home too, topped with not being academically inclined either. I was 14-17 years old and just like most people, it was the worse phase of learning to navigate through my thoughts and emotions. I suddenly became bulimic from all my stress and anxieties and I had no adult or family member I felt safe being vulnerable with. Expressing myself felt embarrassing and though I wasn't an outcast in school, there were still people who were evidently mean. I dropped from 54kg to 47kg within 2 months without excercise at all. I remember eating brunch and the rest I would eat in a day would end up being self induced vomitted. After a long time of doing that, my throat started drying and hurting a bit and it came to a point where my chest or breast area would suddenly feel weird. My grandmother was the first to notice my weight change when I visited my home province. I only fully recovered from bulimia when I was 19 and I have all my original weight back now.
    I just hope people would stop romanticizing or making memes about ED because it's a whole different story when you're romanticizing/laughing about it versus when you're actually having it. ED is always accompanied with mental health issues and it's always easier to tell someone to stop doing it than when you're actually in the same shoes. Whenever I think of my younger self, as an adult it makes me want to hold her tight and tell her it's going to be okay.

      @orangefruit12 24 дня назад +1

      @@6Haunted-Days I started being bulimic when I was 14 years old until 17. It was on and off. Which means if I were to approximately combine the days I self induced committed it was almost equivalent to 730 days or 2 years. Like I said, my throat and chest started hurting at some point which is why there were times I stopped doing it. Being bulimic is done intentionally so I stopped doing it many times intentionally too, to spare my throat which I needed for speaking and drinking water. It was highschool and I still participated in school activities, to clear that up. Bulimia cases are not the same for everyone. Some are actively bulimic (on a daily basis) and some are not. There are also cases where a person feels better for a few months and then go back to being bulimic months after. Which is what happened to me. It's a matter of self esteem and insecurities during one's highschool years.

      Same I've been skinny all my life up till now I'm 21 and practically still the same weight and everything. I always ate and still do eat whatever I want and only till I'm full of course and I eat lots of fattening things or even protein and stuff and yet I've never been able to gain weight or nothing. I think it's my metabolism probably so I can eat whatever with no consequences other than tummy aches of course. I had a couple of teachers at my school when i was younger accuse me of not being fed enough by my mother that one teacher in particular called CPS on my mother and tried to say she was a bad mother which wasn't the case at all because i ate but my teachers are just nosy and rude. Like as if my mother didn't feed me pfft I can't help I was born like this so I feel you. I've literally always weighed like 95 pounds consistently. I think I gained maybe 1 or maybe 2 more pounds when I was in middle school cuz I was even skinnier in elementary but had like a 1/2 pound change but that's it and ever since then I never grew again. It's always been 95. I could eat KFC and fried donuts and nothing or healthy selection of coconut and oranges and still nothing changes. As long as you're in good health and taking care of yourself properly and eating a good balance of all the food groups with some junk sometimes then you'll be fine. Who cares what others think about our weights as long as we're fine with them. I've learned to just accept that I will forever be a stick and that's ok just call me twiggy from here on out. 😂 Stay healthy and whatever weight you're at is fine as long as you are eating and trying maybe drink those protein weight gain drinks/protein powder or something, I tried that when I was younger and it sorta helped, barely. 🤗

    I did this. I did not have an intentional eating disorder. I was a 31yo with full braces, including occlusal stops on my back molars. It was so difficult and painful to eat, that I didn't, until I no longer had any appetite. I went to my doctor, as I had lost 20lbs. I was originally 92 lbs, due to an overactive resting thyroid (finally diagnosed 10 years later). So, I freaked out, when I discovered that I was only 72 lbs. I thought the gaunt look to my face was due to it being reshaped by my braces. And my clothes never fit snugly in the first place. I asked the doctor for an appetite enhancer to kick start my stomach hormones. I was told that no such thing existed. (Ok, this was CA, where medical cannabis was perfectly legal, but whatever). I was told to drink Ensure (hated the taste). I was also threatened with a psychic hold, if I didn't agree to weigh-in every Saturday, until I put on ten pounds. (BS, because it was a legit medical reason, not a psychological one. If someone had mouth sores or stomach pain or something else, they would have helped. But apparently, pain from orthodontics is not a valid excuse to not want to eat). I had no desire to entertain their insulting threats and did their weigh-in for two Saturdays, increasing the change in my pockets each time. I addressed the issue myself with processed sugar and high fat foods. Not a great solution, but several cheesecakes and milkshakes later, I returned to my 92 lbs.

You have to always be with her, preventing her from doing the tricks you saw on the video. Gotta subtract the weight of the clothes and have to escort her to the weighing room. She can't do anything before weight check except for emptying bladder and intestines. Nurses in a psych ward know how smart these kids get when they're inside and they have to anticipate every move the kids may try to pull to fool them. It’s interesting to me that anorexia is considered an eating disorder that requires immediate intervention, but obesity is not. They are both mental disorders that that affect physical perception and both are deadly. People seem to think that obese individuals should “just stop eating so much” or “exercise more” or “stop eat so much junk food.” Just as you cannot tell a person w anorexia to eat, you cannot tell a person with obesity to stop.

And I’m not meaning overweight as in a body could lose 50lbs or so…I mean morbid obesity.

Its's also so hard to lose weight and the doctors tell me to cut calories. I eat between 700-900 on my good days. On my less see how low I can go or just don't care I will eat 0-500. I am at the clinic all the time because my body now won't absorb vitamins, and put 2 and 2 together making me admit my problem. An old manager would ask me when I would come in if I ate anything today since I started to faint more and more. My husband found out on one of our trips, now he gets on my case. I often find myself looking at teenagers and feeling resentful that I don't have their figure and then feel disgust because they're literally children, and they aren't even fully developed. I honestly believe if I saw that I weighed 20kgs that I still wouldn't think the number is low enough, but that's just another part of our problem, isn't it? I'm also very malnourished and am on several medications to help with it because I'm meeting less than 50% of my dietary requirements. I'm sorry for all the stress and pressure of people being on your back about eating all the time. It just adds more stress and makes it a task that you resent even more, no matter how well they mean. That's why you normally have bathroom supervision at least before weigh ins. It really depends on where you are and how much responsibility they give you for yourself.
    Most of the time they weigh you in underwear and if they are suspicious that you are drinking a lot beforehand they do random weigh ins for example during the night/early morning.

    All of this is wrong. Have dealt with EDs, my child, for over 10 years. I too am an ex nurse. Weigh ins are done in a gown and you need to sit in a chair with your back to the computer. There is no chance of seeing the scales or computer. Eating is done also in a gown in a room monitored by staff. You have 30 minutes to eat. Then you are required to sit for 1 hour. No toilet breaks or any chance to purge or hide food. If your calorie intake is not met after a week, then you are fitted with a nasal gastric feeding tube via a pump that is also code locked, to prevent tampering. This tube will remain in until calorie intake is met for a week. This show, whatever it is, needs to have maybe better research writers. Although I'm Australian so this could be different to the US
    Btw my child is a healthy eater now but i still have strict guidelines implimented now, even though they are in their 20s

    I can definitely relate to this. I remember being in treatment for 5 months (recently it had been getting hard again and have found myself doing old habits) and I hated when nurses would have me stand backwards. It was mentally painful and it made me hate myself not knowing. Whenever we’d get weighed in we wouldn’t be told by nurses that we gained and that they’re happy for us, they would say things like have a good day or something to kinda make us smile in the moment but I will say I was thankful that they didn’t tell us if we gained because imagine how that would make someone with an ed feel being told they gained, it would hurt them mentally. Though I vaguely remember treatment (brain fog), I remember how I would cry afterwards or want to cry during meals and a friend I made while in treatment even I think cried once and it pained me to see that. It’s not easy going through this but I also wish that medical professionals would understand that no matter someone weighs, Ed’s aren’t about the food specifically, it’s more mental than anything and someone’s weight shouldn’t keep them from getting treatment from medical professionals, if they have an ed then they need help to get through it and beat it, regardless of the weight. I hope that at some point medical professionals and just in general that can be seen. For anyone struggling, I hope you get better because you are worth it and deserve happiness and you will overcome it! Hugs ❤

    Lived in a group home FULL of girls with ED. My first roommate was the worst (both personality wise and mentally) something like this would be the tip of the iceberg of stuff she'd pull. We had to eat together with staff and they'd always supervise her especially cause she pulled stunts 24/7. She once decided shed eat a chunk of cheese for dinner, or at least thats what she said she did but sadly for her there was a very obvious streak from when she put the cheese in her hoodie pocket. Once the staff noticed it there was no use denying so she had to sit at that table for the rest of the night until she'd finish it. I never found out what happened to her but can confidently say the rest of the girls there left and are doing well to this day.
    Recovery is possible. Hard, but possible.

    as a hospital worker, it's very important that patients (especially children) with an eating disorder are accompanied by a staff member to ensure something like this doesn't occur. there should have been someone there to watch her "brush her teeth" and she should not be allowed to have her own personal water bottle as that can easily add some artificial weight. she should also not be allowed to wear her own personal clothing especially during a weigh in as the hospital should know the weight of their own gown and bottom, whereas her personal clothing could easily be weighed.

    This is a hard watch, I know it's just a TV show, but it hits home. My eldest daughter almost died from Anorexia in 2019. We took her to the
    Dr 3 times with concerns about her weight loss, always being cold, awful circulation, headaches, stomach pains, dizziness, tiredness, plus many other things no 13 year old should be going through. We were told 3 times it was just growth spurts and hormones kicking in, which we were NOT satisfied with. It wasn't until I insisted she saw a different Dr that she was admitted to the local children's ward immediately. She was so weak that her heart was working so hard, she could have dropped from a heart attack at any second. She was put on strict bed rest and had to be wheeled in a chair everywhere, even down to the bathroom. I was staying at the hospital with her night and day while also going home to be there for my other 2 children before school and after school and to put them to bed. I felt awful as my Husband was working away, which meant my Mother in Law had to stay with my other 2 while I was at the hospital. I was going home to cook meals to take to the hospital for my eldest so she would eat, as well as cook for my other two and get them to bed. I am thankful I was able to be there for each of her check ups and weigh ins. They would never weigh a patient with an ED in front of other people though, that would be terrible to do to someone struggling with their self perception. 5 years on she is doing so much better, but the Anorexia and other things that she has going on, will be there for the rest of her life. Don't think I will ever get to a point where I won't worry if there's a slight change in the way she is eating or what she is choosing to eat, it will always be there.
