Flight Training 6- Steep Approach & Confined Area

6th training flight...we worked on steep approaches, confined area landings, max-performance takeoffs, settling with power, decaying rotor RPM recovery, and a re-cap of our previous lessons (comms, taxi, hover, ETL, landings, etc).

In HEMS confined area landings are guaranteed, as is flying in dead man's curve; that's just reality... This however, is how you get into serious trouble just by simply practicing. The purpose of flying lessons and hammering the basics into your head over and over is to give you a foundation to rely on when you do HAVE to make a decision to fly within the curve, it's not to practice advanced problem solving for landings. Yes, settling with power is a more constant threat than engine failure generally speaking, but there's no reason to be shooting approaches into confined areas way inside the curve at this stage in your flying. Do your orbits, and shoot a normal steep approach. Save the complicated approaches for the days when you're in a multi-engine with a flyaway curve and you have a good reason to be doing what you're doing. Shit happens, and when it does it's sure nice to have 60kias or at least ETL during a descent. Good flying, though! Fly safe, fly often.

i used the supplied suction cup mount that came with my hero2...it's mounted over the left side seat on the skylight.
