    Jung is the winner, in every aspect, by miles... I understand that Freud's influence might have been needed for Jung to establish his own theories, though. Jung is definitely on some truth, especially with synchronicity and the collective subconscious etc...

      I'm right there with you. I think Freud's work is valuable. But I've always really resonated with Jung as it goes so much deeper. It has always felt relevant to me, even when I was 15 or 16, just hearing some basic things about his work in passing.

      I would not say Jung is the winner he is rather just a successor. The work just evolved to a better stage. Would Jung have been able to come up with his work without Freud's theory?

      @@TheDiamondNet Like Jung's dream suggested.. Freud excavated and discovered the basement of the unconscious.. Jung discovered the multiple lower levels below the basement of the unconscious. The depths.

    So this might sound weird but for 10+ years now I've been dreaming in the same dream landscape. Every dream starts with me walking up to my house or just being in my house (same house everytime). My whole family lives with me in this massive house, EVRYONE related to me...I'm Mexican so that's alot of people haha. So as soon as this happens I know I'm dreaming and I can start controlling what i do. IVE EVEN DONE HOUSE WORK THAT APPEARS IN MY NEXT DREAMS AS WELL!! DOOR CHANGES, PAINT CHANGE, ETC!!) My house is in the same neighborhood and same spot everytime. I live in a whole city that looks almost like mine that I live in.. it's very very detailed and ALMOST the same everytime. The majority of the layout is the same but sometimes stores will be switched around. And yes I've been inside almost all the stores...but I can sometimes escape out of the city and stuff starts getting VERY weird...like I go off to fight monsters and people trying to attack my city. I'm not always off fighting though. Some nights me and some of family just drive around the city, running errands . Grocery shopping, going to the park, taking care of the house etc. So yea haha... any ideas, interpretations?

    Freud was taking distance from Philosophy as a Doctor in order to be credible as a Scientist, he never speak about the soul or something spiritual. Jung traveled and investigated with tribal populations and listened the "doctors" of tribes. Both focus in dreams for lot of hours. But Freud does not let the patient create more than associated words, while Jung used imaginary ( and mantras) and let the patient to create new things starting with dream material.

    Emerald, I have just started getting into your channel and am loving it. Thanks for putting it out there :) I am started to do some dream analysis work but am having trouble finding ideas on specific things to do or notice. A lot of "notice what this or that means to you" which I agree with, but I find myself grasping for some deeper insight. I have started a dream diary but I end up with multiple conclusions that all seem equally likely to me and leave me with a feeling 9f directionlessness. Any resources you can point me to?

    Hi Emerald, Chris Heath here. I forgot I watched this before, interesting to see my comments from a year ago. I like your style. I think in practice, Jung's and Freud's perspectives are both helpful and necessary. I use both all the time, neither are mutually exclusive. Jung's more spiritual focus on that which is greater than ourselves, numenosity, The Shadow, Archetypes. Freud's more clinical focus; on memory and it's role in identity, the mechanics of the defense mechanisms. If you see Freud's libido theory as that which brings people together, not just sex; and Jung's psychic energy in it's daily manifestations, not just the transcendent, they meet in the middle, IMO. Same way with concepts of numenosity and libidinal cathexis. Thanks, awesome video (still).

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet  6 лет назад +4

      Hi Chris. :) It's great to hear from you! I agree with your statements. I think that there are many valid points to both psychological models. It's just that the human mind is so complex that there are probably thousands (if not millions) of potential perspectives that someone could take relative to it. So, I see Freud and Jung's theories as two valid perspectives on the same complex mechanism. Though Jung's perspective has always resonated with me more, there is much that can be gleaned from Freud that is of supreme value to understanding the human mechanism. Have a great day!

    Great overview, Emerald! On my reading, Freud implies the power and numenosity reflected in the dream, but it is true, his expressed model was anchored in simpler phenomena, such as developmental milestones. It is interesting how much of the depth Jung wrote about is now integrated into post-Freudian psychoanalytic practice.

      Vinculo We could discuss the unconscious mind or dream symbols. I checked out a little of your first video. I can tell you put a lot of effort into creating the video and the image and editing is pretty seamless. It reminds me a lot stylistically of Bill Nye or other science-based shows from the 90s. Though, if we do a collaboration... Being a newbie it's really hard for me to jump from one concept to another without any layout laid out. The technical words and their special meanings in the Jungian psychology are important.
    I seek therefore, someone to interrupt these concepts in a orderly manner.

    My dreams are all over the place in a categorical sense, or at least that's how I interpret them. They can range from the profound, sometimes even bordeline prophetic, to nonsense or banalities and even just what seems like pure entertainment. Sometimes they clearly reflect some simple drive or emotion, some of which are quite cheesy, sometimes they explore some sort of state or experience. Once I dreamt that I was shot in the chest and died, and woke up sobbing, mourning my own death. Lol. Sometimes they show me things I may not have been able to see in a waking state. They can affect my mood quite heavily, sometimes for days if particularly vivid and charged. They never scare me, but a few did when I was a child. I don't know what I'd do without them. Acid probably. I know people who have no connection to their subconscious whatsoever. That seems like a nightmare to me, no pun intended.

    A great explanation about the two thinkers. Following your viewpoints, I have a curious question. Is there another 'category' about the dream not belonged to the two thinkers(personal and collective unconsciousness)?

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet  8 лет назад +1

      I'm not sure if there are other frameworks that explore the subconscious in a similar but different way to Freud and Jung. Jung was the one who believed there to be a collective unconscious with ancestral memory that was collectively shared by all members of humanity. Freud saw the subconscious as more of a place to repress away socially inappropriate drives but did not believe this to be a spiritually based connection to all other people's consciousness. So, Freud only included the personal consciousness in his theories. Although you may want to fact check the last sentence, as I know less about Freud than about Jung.

    Once Jung said about Freud: "He was too narrow for me". It is hard to say what really drives people nowadays as most of them behave according to Freud's theory. However, is that really the case? In my view a human being is as much complicated as the Universe, so I agree with the holly Vedas. Even human biology is the Universe. Carl Gustav Jung is close to me, because he always questioned human nature and never was sure of his own thesis. It remainds me Socrates' attitude towards life: Unexaminated life is not worth living or I know that I know nothing.

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet  8 лет назад

      I have found Jungian theory to ring more true in my life, particularly with Jung's theory on the Shadow. I first heard the theory when I was in middle school, and I thought "Ohhh! That makes sense!" even way back then. That said, Freudian theory works for me too. I just think they were looking at a very complex mechanism from different viewpoints that had some similarities in common. I really like Jung as a personality too, if you've ever seen his video interviews.

    • @kolitmas624
      @kolitmas624 8 лет назад

      I have seen Jung's interviews :) . Yes, I do agree with you. There are common factors at both Freud's and Jung's theories. However, the Shadow may not be necessary bad, it depends on may factors. Anima and Animus are personification of our male and female psyche: I have something from a woman as well as you have something from a man. The biological factor plays a vital role in our behaviour patterns to the same extend as a culture, which has been built up for centuries. The both factors determine who we are. However, there is something deeper within us and that is our conciousness. I like one of the Jung's sayings: "Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it faith". By the way, I greet you from Europe.

    I descovered you recently and I resonate with you very much:) So, I want to know your opinion about psychology, in a sense that this discipline uses concepts like conscious and subconcious, and other concepts, and on the other side, the enlightnemnet experiences showed somehow that all concepts and ideas are just thoughts. Because I m struggling with the decision of starting a psychology university, for long time, long long time, BUT, because I m a spiritual seeker from about 11 years now, and I buy into spiritual ideas, these two domains are oposing in my head. They can t go together since nondualism says there is no separate person inside the body and thoughts are just thoughts passing by, and psychology consider the human mind as having levels of consciousness, and if we can t see them, they are abstract concepts, and at some level they are not true, they can be just thoughts, so how psychology can be of help to humans, if this theory is based on “lies” ? ... and as a seeker I m more skeptical regarding their validity... that s why I feel blocked! 😬 I m sorry if I can t be more clear:)), ... and I hope for your opinion:) Thanks!

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet  5 лет назад +1

      The main thing to look into is the problem of paradoxes which are seemingly contradictory truths that arise from the human mind's inability to accurately understand the workings of an infinite thing. So, there are different paradigms, which hold different truths that sometimes conflict. Think of a paradigm a bit like a planet. Every planet has its own unique gravitational pull, climate, year-length, etc.
      So, on Earth, it's true that a year is 365-ish days. On Jupiter, this is false, as the year is much longer (4,300 Earth days). And there is no such thing as a year when you're floating in space. All of these things are true but seem to contradict eachother. Like, how can a year be 365 days, 4,300 days, AND not even exist at the same time?
      So, it's about being able to understand the difference between the absolute truth that is experienced in deep enlightenment states... which is the nothingness element. And here, all is an illusion. And barriers are an illusion. And this includes everything that is experienced within our reality. But there are many relative truths within the relative reality that we're living, and they are predictable.
      So, human beings can be helped subjectively through use of psychology because both human beings and psychology are things that exist within this relative reality. But on the absolute, it can be noticed that all is illusion. But the illusion works a predictable way.

      The Diamond Net, thanks for such a beautiful and clear answer! Hmm! That let me contemplate for a while, in a very good sense. No one could give me such a simple answer for years:))) And, having understood this issue of mine (from my level of understanding, of course), that leads me to the most stresfull thought/question I had for many years, since primary school, and later, it became a reason for depression: “I allways felt that nothing has meaning, or sense! “. But, I only felt the negative part of this idea. And I still feel it, that s why I struggle with lack of motivation, deep sadness and not wanting to do anything. After 4 years of therapy I did in the past, I know how to manage this states better, but, it s still my life’s background! After I saw your video about Ego transcendence/ ego repression, it hit me that I probably repressed all my wantings and doings, because the belief that nothing make sens anyway. As a spiritual seeker, this idea reinforced my feeling that life makes no sense as a story of Mine, Me, that I don t exist, as a separate person so, what am I doing here? and why? From the personal level, this idea is depressing. From the absolut level, the enlightnement presents this idea as being a liberation, a bliss, desidetification with the voice in the head, is described as being something positive! I’m not there yet, or, because of the belief that I am a person, I can t see this as a positive thing, of course. Sometimes I wish I never heard of the idea of enlightnement, cause is caused me to suffer even more. Put it simple: when the person hears that the person doesn t exist, the person becomes depressed. How to make pace with these two paradoxes, and manage to continue my life with enthuziasm and joy? Thank you again for yor time, I really appreciate your clarity😌😊

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet  8 лет назад

      Thank you and thanks again for watching. :) I do plan to do some more videos on meditation in the future and possibly even some guided meditations.
      Freudian wish-fulfillment and Jungian re-integration are similar in the sense that they both are geared toward meeting needs that haven't been able to be met in waking life. But they are different in that the Freudian wish-fulfillment was geared toward expressing baser instinctual drives such as sexual desires and violent urges.
      Jungian re-integration is more about allowing all traits/emotions/drives that have been repressed. For example, if someone is from a family that's very practical and looks down on frivolity, that person may have a tendency to repress their creative drives. So, a person may dream about an artist who has run out of paint (or some other variation on this idea) as a symbol for their own disowned and repressed creativity.

    • @CerebralAssassin
      @CerebralAssassin 8 лет назад

      ah,I see the difference.So,according to Jungian psychology,repressing shadow traits doesn't necessarily come from trauma,right?
      I've often wondered if violent urges are an instinct or caused from traumas.

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet  8 лет назад

      CerebralAssassin In a sense, yes. Trauma can certainly cause a person to repress traits. But so can many other things that we wouldn't deem to be traumatic. For example, if we decide that it is a negative thing to feel good about our successes because we want to be humble, this can have the same effect. It is ultimately a self-lie and repression of ego-drives, in order to paint the ego in a positive light. These can cause just as much neuroses as a traumatic childhood event. For Frued though, it's always about trauma and not meeting milestones.
      I believe that violent urges have an instinctual nature because they're designed to protect the physical body through self-defense. For example, in nomadic times, if we were attacked by a saber tooth tiger, violence (however futile in this case) is an appropriate instinctual response. However, if we react violently to an ego-based psychological attack, this is unconsciousness behavior because we've lost sight of the fact that the ego is a collection of thoughts and isn't actually what we are, therefore it doesn't actually need protection in the way that the physical body does. But I think that Freud believed that violent urges were just a part of our baser drives that needed to be repressed for us to function in society.

    Can you do a video on the insight behind your channel name and intro? I had a lucid dream once of shedding my ego and traveling into space and saw a face shape made up by a huge blue net. A shimmering moving grid.

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet  4 года назад +1

      I may do a video on it someday. It’s based on Indra’s Diamond Net... which is hung in the sky. Maybe you saw Indra and his net as an archetypal symbol of the paradox of perspective on reality that his net represents.

    • @danilles.4247
      @danilles.4247 4 года назад

      @@TheDiamondNet That makes sense because when I zoomed in on each "square" or "diamond" in the net, there would be a face there with a different face expression. The whole net was made up of tiny "sad" faces, "happy" faces, "shocked.. scared... confused" expressions... but when I zoomed out to see the larger grid it was just a very neutral face. Barely any expression on it all. I will do more research on Indra's Net, for a long time I didn't know where that vision came from. Thank you!

      In his "Introduction to psychoanalysis", the lectures on dream censorship and dream archaism & infantility to be exact. He essentially says that dreams occur in order for us to live out an unfulfilled wish or desire that is keeping us awake, a sort of compromise. Often times these wishes are repressed and libidinal, involving "inappropriate" sexual desires.

    Non-experienced archetypal
    images. Couldn't those be
    interpreted as insignificant and forgotten experiences from the individual's dream-day or from childhood as opposed to a collective repository?

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet  8 лет назад

      I think that this is a possibility. If you're used to seeing or have seen an archetypal image, then I would imagine that it could pop up in the dream without the direct tie to the archetypal/ancestral memory.

    Freud is rational positivist, Jung is romantic mystic.
    Freud believe in own common sence and see unconscious content as peoblem, Jung put himself to fall deep in unconscious phantasms and take it as life guide.

    jung ruminates towards an abstraction that is somewhat beyond human insight, it comes across as esoteric. its harder concept to wrap a head around. this is a reason why I am more interested in jungian theories.

    Carl Jung's ideas about unconscious mind makes more sense, It's not like we are born with a brain with zero data (/unconscious information). A new born baby cries, smiles, moves, looks around and does many things that were not taught to it which in a way tells us we're not born with any blank brain.

    I chose my words poorly in regards to the expression "Talking Monkeys". I understand it may sound derogatory. I was a talking monkey ==== A person only interested in the physical and to quote Maynard Keenan " Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to Heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here" {Right in 2, 10,000 Days}
    So to quote me; A Talking monkey is like an individual in deep delusion thinking that they're their name, body, mind, job, memories, Ego etc... & is content living that way. Totally oblivious to their delusions & would most likely never agree with any of the 3 Major traditions of Non-Duality. I'm a talking monkey still just to a lesser extent I like to think. I'm sure there are delusions i've not shined a light on

    Hello, there. I want, first of all, thank you, because I, until now, never knew anything about Jung, and your channel seems to be a good introduction (or even more. This is the first video of yours that I've seen). With that said, I had read Freud's work, and (I swear this is not to offend, on the contrary, to start a debate about it, if you care for it, of course) everything you said about Freud was incomplete and wrong. I started a channel to talk about Freud's theory (I will not name it because it would be taking an unfair advantage of your audience and your channel), but I would like to contribute to your work, if you want, and I would like you to contribute to mine, if you want to. With that said, thank you if you read this, and if you don't, tank you anyway.

    What?!? Where did that come from? I assure you it wasn’t from Freud himself.

    • @TheDiamondNet

      He would probably frame it as the expression of an instinct toward dominance that is expressed in the dream as a kind of wish fulfillment to dominate the boss. So, in the Freudian view, dreams represent repressed instincts like sexuality and violence that are unacceptable to express in life.

    • @TheDiamondNet
      @TheDiamondNet  8 лет назад +1

      I don't think either is wrong. They're just looking from different perspectives. The psyche is incredibly complex, like a whole world in and of itself. Let's say that Freud is in the dessert and Jung is in the Arctic. Certainly their descriptions of the terrain are going to be completely different... but neither is wrong. My experiences jibe more with Jung, but Freud not so much. Either way, I think they both had valuable, groundbreaking things to say about the internal world.
