  • Following on from my last video where I showed you how to draw landscape by seeing it as two-dimensional shape rather than three-dimensional form. I demonstrate how useful a viewfinder is and show you how to make your own viewfinder at home.

The 3x3 grid not only helps you frame the composition and transfer the image to your page, but it also allows you to line up the composition with the focal points folthe rule of 3rds wher the piece is more aesthetically pleasing if the focal points line up with the intersections of the 3x3 grid. All of your examples did!

Hi, sorry for the delay. The aperture depends on the proportions of the paper that you are using for drawing. If the paper is A4 size then the aperture (hole) needs to be cut at the same proportion 1: 1.4 approximately. Something like 82mm x 56mm - aperture size - that’s what I use . The measurement of the outside piece of card doesn’t matter - whatever suits you best to hold. If the paper isn’t A4 you’ll need to measure the width and length of your paper and work out the ratio eg 1:1.4, 1:1.5: 1.1.6 etc and cut the apperture to that proportion. Hope that helps.
