- ABOUT ME
I sold all my belongings to move into a van in the summer of 2022. Vanlife in New England is not easy but I figure it out. I also showcase the heck out of this beautiful part of the USA.

Thanks! Something to look forward to. Spring!
Thanks a lot man!
Matt, Thanks for encouraging us with better times ahead. I know it’s hard-work to make videos and working full-time. I’m sure all the followers appreciate your efforts. Watching your new videos are always the high-point of my day. Robert Frost said; “Out alone in the winter rain, / Intent on giving and taking pain.” He knew New England.
Thanks Robert Frost!
I hear you i think the older i get the less i can deal with the cold and ice. And this year felt particularly cold since the end of Nov. I'm also counting down to spring...
Ministry ✔️
I hate the cold too. I used to live in Germany for a few years and worked outside. It really sucked in the winter. That's why I live in Orlando now, right down the road from Gator Land. It's been getting in the 40's at night, which is really cold for me, but around 60 during the day. Today is 75 so that's a little crazy. I went to Boston years ago and I liked it, but it's too cold for me in the winter.
I liked Orlando the best out of all the places I've been in Florida. Wish I could spend the winters there.
As a person who hates the cold in mass, thanks for sharing your info on when the cold will go away, it gives me hope that warmer weather is not too far away. Arizona is nice and warm but I heard the summer can get in the triple digits but I'm still on the fence about it
I would trade triple digits for negative digits even if it's every day of the year
I moved back to Boston this fall, and I’m struggling to get through this winter. Thanks for the look forward. Spring will be here before you know it.
I would take the winter over summer. I don't like being hot.
A vehicle heats up quick in the summer, and it's more difficult cooling down.
No daylight savings time and low temp of 75 here in the Philippines. Come live in a van here. It's very inexpensive to live and very comfortable. My wife and I live in a very nice air conditioned 3000 sq.ft. house with a housekeeper for $450 a month. Also very, very low crime rate here in Davao City. Come visit sometime. Stay warm and safe my friend.✝️❤️🙏🇺🇸🇨🇿
Sounds awesome, maybe I will!
My birthday today!🎉
Not too dull in Vegas!🥳
Happy Birthday!
Marla, Happy Birthday!
Happy belated birthday!
Fun fact: the pilgrims invented the Webasto heater…for boats.
Daylight savings time BLOWS!!!
agree
Enjoy your three day weekend. Thanks for giving us something to look forward to. Rest🙋🏼♀️
Thanks Ruth!
We have 5:30 sunsets right now in Ohio. I'll be glad when it gets back to 9 o clock sunset's.
Lucky you for being in the western part of the eastern time zone!
Live in Aussie…our state does not do daylight saving..that’s western Aussie…l think Queensland is not doing it either…l like winter but we don’t get snow….completely different……..l try to understand how cold it is…l would not enjoy your cold…please catch up on sleep..more important to your health than mostly anything…so sleep..enjoy your videos..easy talker…straight personality..and easy to look at…take care
Lucky you, I think the clock changes do more harm than good, personally. Not good for our bodies.
Many times people fall into living in vehicles, rather than it being a choice
but I do agree with you about the time of year ....
But also you can choose your latitude. It is much warmer in Texas Louisiana Florida
when forced into the lifestyle it is very unpleasant. Just homeless with a place to sleep.
@@mrj-charles6383 there are ways and methods for living freely. My biggest suggestion is that homeless people find a long distance trail and become functional homeless who live near the trail and camp on it for more restful sleep than in the cities
You can't really choose your latitude, not easily. Maybe if you are retired or an entrepreneur. People stay where they can find work.
I hope you stay warm and enjoy the three-day weekend. Remember, the sun will come out tomorrow! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, I will
Awesome video Bro! Keep up the great work. As always be safe and PEACE OUT!!
Thanks

I once heard a van lifer say the secret to curing the winter blues is to go somewhere inspiring. On one hand you can go literally anywhere in a van. On the other you’re semi locked into a geo work area. Let’s go somewhere that really lifts you up next. We’re with you! Peace.
Unfortunately the inspiring places I like to go tend to be the most treacherous in bad weather (mountains)... I'm going to look for something inspiring near the coast tonight.
Keepin' it real - no sugar coating here 🥶🌡️
Daylight Saving Time is what we observe in the spring and summer and allows for more daylight in the afternoon. March begins Daylight Saving Time and when we “fall back” in November we switch back to Standard time. The better option for Massachusetts would be to go to permanent daylight saving time.
There is a deep freeze hitting us in Pa. starting Sunday night that will hit you on Wednesday . Minus zero numbers at night ! Stay warm , stay warm !
The freeze is the scariest part because of what it does to the roads, I tend top get up before the sanders do.
I spent many winters in NEPA battling to stay warm. After my father passed in 2023 I have not spent much time up there even though I still have his house. Now I am in NC where we get cold nights but go up into the 50s during the day most of the winter. Although this coming week we get the polar vortex weather. Problem with the East Coast southern life is hot humid summers with lots of bugs. Once I settle everything here I am looking at AZ for winters and Phillipines 6 months summer months or typhoon season there. 🤣
I think ideal for me would just be to move with the weather, there's no perfect year round place. Still I'd take the Carolinas over New England, it's just freezing 7 months of the year here.
It's a three day weekend, sure, but now there isn't a day off from work until May! 😞
I know... sucks!
with 8 months of winter up here, we don't track precise days! But longer daylight hours are always wonderful! Yesterday a cold wave blew in, 60 mph winds, blizzards and temperatures dropped 50 degrees in 4 hours. It's a very vicious climate here. Not a place to be living out of a van here. Stay warm, this too shall pass.
Are you far North Canada?
Yikes where are you?
@@undertheradarvan Yukon territory, land of the midnite sun. No van campers up here!
Hi Matt. Boat life... hmm. Here's an idea. Maybe you can investigate boat life and do a comparison. Who knows maybe no one stays on their boat or boat house up there in New England. Maybe they do. That would be interesting. Be safe.
I'd be terrified of sinking every single moment. A flat tire is one thing...
Five months before I can open-swim at Walden Pond without a wet suit. Been thinking about that all day. Meantime, I just can't warm up.
Yes we have a ways to go... A nice swim at Walden would be nice
Not sure where you are right now, but Berkshire County is calling for up to 12" of snow and ready to go back to crappy cold weather Monday Tuesday and Wednesday with wind chills in the single digits. So Might wanna stay put there in Boston, if possible. This is gonna be CRAP! IF it happens, last month they said were were going to get 8" I think we got at most 5. But the wind kicked our butts. I am sure you probably already know this, but if not, Sunday into Tuesday Morning is the winter weather advisory. Stay Safe!
Thanks! I will be no where near the mountains for this storm, considering going to RI but will decide this afternoon. The snowfall map keeps changing hourly.
Get ready for the snow and arctic blast tomorrow into Monday.
If you plan to try warmer climates again, have you considered painting your roof white? I just watch someone do their bus roof white with a rubbery product meant for metal roofs.
Yeah still figuring out my plans for tonight! Stressed!
Hopefully you’re heading to the Southwest?!
I wish
@@undertheradarvan - Tell your boss you’re gonna be working remotely for a couple of months!
Come to Arizona, it's so much better 😊
One day!
Hybrid vehicles seem like a great choice for the climate control.
My transit does have climate control but I'd have to run the engine, I betting it's the same thing with a hybrid?
@ runs mainly off battery. Engine only kicks on when battery needs recharging. Hardly uses any gas overnight.
Hey I’m retiring this week cause of the cold I can’t take waiting on buses at night I have a new car but there’s no parking when I come home so the bus is the alternative route
Lucky you! I hate waiting for the bus too! They are never on schedule in Boston.
man i went on a 1 nighter van camp trip yesterday and the gates ended up being closed to the campground even tho reviews a week ago said it was open. was super discouraging. I dont like stealth camping with my dog.
Campgrounds are too unreliable in the winter up here, but in state parks you can find trailheads that are generally safe for the night
February 2nd is Groundhog Day ... even though he can't be relied on anymore .. for reasons better left unsaid.
Yeah I feel like Groundhog Day should be a month later than it is. Great idea for a holiday though.
Winter storm coming, what do you do when it happens? When you cannot park on the streets?
Still figuring that out! Tonight is going to be an adventure
@undertheradarvan would make a good video
@@undertheradarvan is a parking garage possible for you?
I got a portable AC called Zero Breeze Mark 2 for my van. If it’s over 100 degrees outside in direct sun, it will only cool face and chest. But I only use it at night to sleep comfortably. Max cool it draws 240 watts. They recently came out with a Zero Breeze Mark 3 with double the BTUs but of course double the watt draw at 500 watts. I image it could probably cool you off during the day. They are very small AC units. They have two 3 inch venting hoses that you will need to route to the outside.
Thanks for the info. Power consumption is a huge drawback on these things, I probably need to get solar panels.
I’m a chaplain. Tell us about the Ministry sweat shirt
Where would the ideal van life location for temperature (not too hot or cold) be year around?
Probably the PNW, no real temperature extremes up there
I am a big football fan so the games get me through the winter - this time of year when not as many games I notice it and can’t wait for spring. I do the same thing noticing little markers like it getting dark slightly later.
Football definitely helps this time of year, too bad the Patriots suck now. I've turned into a Cleveland fan just because I have a friend from there.
@ yea for sure - nice distraction this time of year
Yes Az is a great place it's 68 today wearing shorts and t-shirt and no day- light saving time. But summer a/c is a must. I lived in Florida for a year and that was a mistake for so many reasons 😅
Yes I need to fix the AC situation!
Started watching videos a while back me and my sister love your videos stay strong. I’m born and raised from Boston, Massachusetts right outside the north end the money they want for these apartments are ridiculous. Specially over there in the east Boston neighborhood outside Suffolk, Downs and Revere crazy prices.
Prices are unreal, I consider my 30s the lost decade because I paid so much in rent I didn't save anything.,
@@undertheradarvan I know people that work seven days a week not a day off just to go home to eat go to sleep get up do it all over what you’re doing is smart. more freedom and if you can do it, why not.
Have you ever used your vehicle's engine to cook a meal while you are driving around?
cooking a foil packet meal always looks so fun, but might be better to do once you stop somewhere.
because how would you keep it in place?
Never tried that, sounds very MacGuyverish
Pointing 😮
Move to Georgia
Might happen! That or the Carolinas both are appealing.
Their "boat life" got me. Good one. Yeah winter camping/van life ......not me. Got to be someone determined like yourself. Or the Pilgrims lol. Hopefully I manage to get a truck camping trip going soon. And when I do I will point the truck south and step on the gas hard!!! Ive done some testing with the Lightning in the cold overnite and its quite survivable even comfortable. Got standup portable a/c unit already in anticipation of a warmer world. Dont know how even half the Pilgrims survived. Oh yeah, the Native Americans saved their butts. Too bad we really didnt return the favor.
Winter hit HARD and EARLY this year
