Several projects coming up. Hire or buy whacker plate? For £299.00 + £8.00 delivery charge it made more sense to buy. I can always sell it on or rent out when I've done with it especially at this price. Note: although delivery is quoted as 3-5 days, be warned that 3 - 5 weeks is more realistic. Also, carrier information and updates are very poor.

Ah- good to know regarding delivery delays! Thank you for the review. Mine was forecast to arrive today but no sign of the courier picking it up. At least I’ve got a good excuse for not digging out where the patio is going yet!

I was guaranteed delivery by the 08.11.22 or before from Aldi, their couriers hadn't received it then Aldi removed all tracking info. It did however arrive on the 10.11.22 so less than two weeks this time.

FYI your throttle cable clamp has the screw in backwards, this is why it doesn’t work. They ship it from the factory like that. Back it out and insert it through the slotted hole and then screw it down into the hole it was originally in with the threads

Now only £200 + £9 delivery, fantastic bit of kit.
If you're new to using one of these like me don't make the mistake of have to much base material down, I'd read somewhere that you can compact base material 2 1/2" down. I was a couple of inches higher than required before starting to compact and after about 3 hours hard graft [only a small area] I was still to way to high and then had to try and remove compacted material. Bloody hard work LoL

there was a fair amount of a treacle-like substance on the inside of the plate on mine when it arrived. Only place I can think it came from was the vibrator, but there is no clear indicator that is did and the vibrator appears to be a sealed unit. I'll have to take a closer look

Definitely a tool in my list of don't use it enough to warrant buying it ,but totally agree with your reasoning for the purchase mate.

Good to see you back posting regularly again, I have just realised I have a few videos to catch up on! I will be really interested to see how you get on with this item as I am looking at getting a whacker plate as like you I have quite a few different projects upcoming in the next probably 1-3 years and the advantage of owning rather than hiring is that not only if you have a few projects to do you can also do them piece meal rather than trying to do all your whacking in one weekend of hire for example, also if the weather is rubbish you can leave it till a better day if you own rather than hire.
The big issue I will have with owning v hiring is the storage of the item, the garage hasn't seen a car in years and space is at a premium. I would like to buy a cement mixer but space is an even bigger issue for that.
There are a couple of videos I have watched on this exact whacker plate item before, one by The Restoration Couple and another by Proper DIY channels on RUclips. It might be worth watching them as they I seem to remember had a couple of tips after using the item a bit. So it could save you some hassle.
I hope you are going to film your upcoming projects as they are very similar to some of what I have planned so it would be great to get your insight on how you go about them!
Hope you and yours are all well!

Thanks buddy. Great to hear from you. All good here thank you. Hope you and yours are too mate. Agree entirely about storing the thing. That's always a potential problem with large bulky items which need to be kept secure and out of the elements so they don't just rust away. I have mine under a thick tarp and it is secured to a wall anchor via a HD chain lock. There's a handy bar / handle thingy at the front of the item which is welded and the chain can feed through. I know it's not perfect and these days no chains / locks are secure. Many folk have battery operated grinders, etc, which could get through it but it's a deterrent more than anything . Plus, if anyone tries to nick it when I'm around it only takes a sec to grab the machete.
I will be videoing stuff and will definitely check out the vids you and others have mentioned. Take care buddy, Des

@@21stcenturycaveman33 Thanks for the reply. Good to hear you will be recording some of the upcoming jobs. It might be an idea to store your whacker plate on top of a wooden pallet or something similar like some blocks if you are keeping it outside so that it doesn't risk sitting in any pooled water and also will allow some air to circulate under it to help keep it dry.
