God Bless you John MacArthur 🙏🏼 My eyes have recently been opened after being in the charismatic church for 23 years. I am totally shocked, embarrassed, disappointed (in myself mainly for not knowing the word in context) ashamed because of all the people I have influenced. On the positive side I am set free. I feel born again, again. A load has been taken off that I didn’t even realise was there. This is true freedom in Christ. Wow!! And it’s so easy! Matt 11:28. I am reading the Bible now like never before. I didn’t even really know what context meant 🤦🏻♀️ The Charismatic Movement filled me with self, emotions, imagination, dreams, living in hope and trust from all the words and prophecies I received, waiting patiently for them to come to pass and never did. But you still live in hope because if not, you lack faith and trust. Now coming out of it I realise I was living in make believe, which as much as I loved and served faithfully, I was actually very self centred, waiting for all my desires, hopes, prophecies and words to come to pass. So extremely messed up. So deceived. And I would defend this movement and think the person I am now (in the truth and set free) was actually the deceived one and not lead by the Holy Spirit or didn’t have the Holy Spirit at all. I have never repented so much much in my life. I now live for Christ and Christ alone and I’m soooo excited and very humbled and grateful to our beautiful sovereign God. I am also very grateful for all the biblical preachers 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 John MacArthur, Billy Crone, Justin Peters, Voddie Baucham, Susan Heck and many many more. I humbly thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🥰
This man has guts. He has done the unthinkable - he has challenged the Charismatic movement!! His SF conference was the best thing I have ever come across in explaining the issues. I wish he had done this years ago - and saved me from all the heartache and failed prophecies I experienced as a Charismatic. Thank you Lord Jesus for this man and those who stood with him at SF.
Denouncing a doctrine because of excesses in people's lives, through a false doctrine, may bring peace to some, but it won't make any friends in heaven.
Just listened to this sermon again. Listening to John MacArthur preach the word of God will always make me feel blessed. Thank you Father for the gift of your precious Son, the Lord Jesus, and His gift of the Holy Spirit through you Father.
I was 35 years in the Charismatic movement. It took a major confrontation with Biblical truth and an exposure to the plainly ridiculous nature of Charismaticism to smack the heresy out of me. Thanks be to God!!
I'm very grateful for the strange fire conferences, but I'm a continuationist. You don't necessarily have to be charismatic to believe that the Holy Spirit still works in the believers today. It's a very biblical concept and there's no solid biblical stance that combats that view.
John McAthur is right to call out the charismatic heresy or other foolishness associated with it. But he speaks out of the ignorance of the power of the Spirit in those who allow the Spirit to do His work in them. The point is "we must taste the spirits," but not to disregard ALL spiritual experiences, even those attributable to the Holy Spirit. If we all followed the cessationist approach of John MacArthur, how would we know "what was, is, & is to come," as the bible says the Spirit would let us know these things? Like there is a prophecy of a coming depression like crisis coming to America. How can those who follow his teachings know about this? Embracing what MacArthur is teaching is to disregard a great portion of the scriptures! How can he teach "the truth" while disregarding a portion of the scriptures? This is unheard of! And many people around the world follow his teachings! If he is an example of "the elders," surely many of us will fall in a ditch together with "the elders!"
It's actually painful to hear a prominent pastor smear God-fearing, Jesus-loving, expository-preaching brothers in Christ who speak for truth and influence our culture in many positive ways, such as Calvary Chapel.
The Strange Fire conference changed my life.... Left charismatic churches and found a loving baptist church. I've been able to know God deeper than just personal experiences and feelings 🙌
I came out of an extreme Pentecostal church and MacArthur was used as part of the way God lead me out. I wish I could find a church in my area that was biblical but for now I do the live stream from Grace Community Church every Sunday with my family.
Praying for you, sista! I attend Grace Community Church and I have grown as a believer (along with my wife and four kids) since we joined 12 years ago. I also left a Pentecostal church.
"My people perish for lack of knowledge." Hosea 4:6 Thank you, dear Lord for keeping us close to You, for not letting us fall into this heresy. Thank you, Pastor John for your clear and unapologetic defense of the Word of God. As a church musician it's lovely to hear the defense of our spiritual heritage in the Great Hymns of praise we have loved for centuries.
I'm from Singapore, I came from a taoist background, and I'm the only one saved in my entire family. Before I had a huge encounter with God (in a 3 days conference that happened in 2013) I had depression, suicidal thoughts all the time, anger management issues, lust, addiction to pornography, gore movies, extreme violence, negative thoughts, constantly judging people etc. Building up to that conference, somehow Holy Spirit gave me supernatural grace to fast and pray and seek Him, and I was also partly fed up with my own life of calling myself a christian but not living the life that Jesus walked in the bible. I was also previously like most of you here who were reserved about the manifestations of God. However, during the second day of that conference, I went up for an altar call and immediately I fell to the ground because the presence of the Lord was very strong. This is stated in the bible, many of the old saints couldn't even stand in the presence of the Lord. (Not because of the speakers, not because of the location, but I highly believe that it was because I publicly proclaimed that I wanted to seek Jesus with all my heart when I made that decision to walk up to the front of a church in front of 100s of people.) I couldn't even stop myself from screaming because I felt like a tiny speckle of dust in the presence of God, and instantly He chased away my depression. I felt Him cut away the ties of my past that I couldn't see but was tied to my soul. I was hungrier for God than ever ever since. During the second day, I had my dose of joy. I wouldn't term it holy laughter because it simply scares people away, there seems to be nothing holy to be deduced about it because what happens internally only the Spirit of God can see and testify. So when Jesus came to speak to me about hope, I was deeply elated, and I couldn't stop laughing. I cared about NOBODY around me, I was on the floor again in the weighty presence of God was there, healing my soul and speaking to me a lot about hope, my future, and HOW MUCH Jesus believed in me and fearfully made me for a great purpose in His kingdom. OF COURSE, if you hear these words from Jesus, would you stop laughing? No, you won't :) IT was true happiness, to the brim of my soul - I never had it before. Ever since that encounter (any more during those 3 days), it convicted me that I needed to study the Word of God faithfully to make sure that these manifestations are kept in alignment with God. And it made me hunger from then till now (so far 3 years) to seek God deeper and to seek His word deeper. Lastly, I would like to also give my thoughts about how I agree that manifestations come with both the real and the false. Demons will always try to make a fake imitation of God. We have to discern very carefully, to see the the fruits AFTER the manifestation to know whether or not it is holy and of God. We really cannot tell much when the general manifestation is happening. And finally, the more important things to chase after is to become like Jesus, to abide in His love when we make decisions and speak things about different denominations. It's not so much on focusing on the outward appearance, but the Lord always does something with the heart, and looks at the heart. Sometimes we worship movements more than God.
Amen! I had a similar experience many decades ago which resulted in an unshakable faith that has kept me ever close to Jesus during a 3 year period of my spouse’s separation from me and a chronic pain condition. Jesus is all and always enough. Praise Him!!!
A charismatic Christian came into my hospital room when I was very sick and the doctors had already prepared my family for my soon coming death. He laid his hands on me and prayed. I made a supernatural recovery to the amazement of the hospital staff. I am alive, and I am a Christian today because of this.
I was raised in a pentecostal church. After finally hearing the gospel in my 30's and actually becoming a Christian for real this time, I decided I was going to come at the Bible like I knew nothing at all. I began to research the beliefs of my childhood. My eyes were opened that what happened on the day of Pentecost is not what is occurring today. What is happening today is a counterfeit. Jesus said it is wicked generation who look for signs and wonders. The Holy Spirit points us to Christ and Christ is enough! As someone who grew up in the midst of pentecostal chaos I am truly grateful for John Macarthur doing this conference and writing this book. Something that is past due. Thanks for posting this video. :)
I, too, am SO thankful for this work. I was so caught up and confused by the teachings in my former church. Thankfully a Christian friend reached out to me and just simply said, "Friend, I see some red flags with your church's doctrine...and the close association with Bethel church." Well, I inquired what she meant...and she proceeded to give me her testimony. I, in turn, did my own research and I was shocked by what I found. I didn't realize I was starting to go the "broad way"... I was reminded of many scriptural truths. I praise God for His mercy and grace. I tried to tell others in the church, but they were not as receptive...I was told I'm putting "God in a box" and "Functioning out of a place of fear"..."Father, Son and Holy Scriptures", etc. I can pray for them....and do. I love those people.
I've just discovered the teachings of this Pastor. I wish I had heard this when I was young in the 1970s. I still have Charismatic friends who are always "pushing" miracles and devoted to the preachers who are in this movement. I have been feeling so depressed because I can't get these miracles. Thank you!
David Fritch What does the Bible call truth? Jesus says "Your word is truth" in His high priestly prayer. 2 Timothy 3:16 says the Bible is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. It's the Bible that's truth, not experiences. All these special revelations don't add to the Bible, nor are they necessary for anything. All they accomplish is making those who lack faith and need a sign for reassurance feel good. That's why they're fake. It takes more faith to say, "God, this is in Your hands, and I pray Your will be done," than, "I command this to happen!" One is relying on your own faith to get things done, while the other is putting your faith wholly in God. Faith is an assurance of things unseen. Experiences aren't faith. They're unfaith. That's not even taking into account the fact that the signs gifts have ceased, and the Bible acknowledges this.
David Fritch Yes...Sometimes. Sometimes not. Reference: Our Creators (Lord Jesus Christ) wilderness temptations. Also, that the just should live by faith [in God]!
Josh Peterson I agree in part. God did & does use 'special expereinces' to help us as in many many Biblical accounts, also I hear of similar in places where the Gospel is being shared in new ground. Even hearing & answering our prayers is revealing He hears & cares. It's a difference however then chasing miracles. Note God in the flesh (Lord Jesus Christ) performed miracles but He also said this: "An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth".-Matthew 12.39-40. So go figure...
In defense of Calvary Chapel, I sat under Chuck Smith's teaching for 10 years and can testify that it was 100% gospel. I know John believes that the charasmatic movement spawned off of Calvary but Calvary itself is not charasmatic. There wasn't any of the goofy things going on in there that charasmatics are doing today. No falling down, speaking in tongues, screaming, non stop hypnotic music, repetitious chanting and emotionalism. Also no, faith healing or name it and claim it and the power is in you prosperity new age teaching. Chuck taught through the Bible, cover to cover and never skipped passages on Hell or sin. He also favored many of the old hymns for worship. Yes, they allowed different styles of music but the lyrics were always Biblical. Mostly Psalms set to different music. Their attitude toward the hippies was come as you are instead of turning them away like some churches were because the men had long hair and wore sandals. He didn't want to shut them out because of the way they looked. He wanted to reach out to a lost culture strung out on drugs and given over to sexual promescuity and present them with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Many of those people got saved, transformed and some became the great pastors we have today. I have no doubt that Chuck Smith was true Biblical Christian, a Godly man and was a great teacher of the Bible. I never found any of his teaching heretical or unbiblical and am grateful for his ministry. Maybe some people came out of there and created charasmatic churches but they didn't learn that from Chuck. Sometimes I think John gets a little hung up on the clothes and the style of music. As long as the Biblical truth is being taught in the church and the worship is reverent and honest, the rest is just personal taste.
Trucker_Pete Thank you! You said exactly what I wanted to say. I’m listening to this man because I agree with him in many ways and he’s a wonderful teacher. But I attend Calvary Chapel and i have never thought of it as Charismatic! God bless you :) I actually lead worship and stay away from all the new, feel good songs that aren’t Biblically sound. I learned that from my pastor... I felt sad to hear Mr. MacArthur’s statements about CC.
@@whosoeversaved4ever474 I feel the same way. I like John MacArthur a lot and listen to his teaching regularly but he seems to have a bone to pick with Calvary that I don't really understand. I still attend Calvary and wouldn't be there if anything unbiblical or charismatic was going on there. I just felt I had to speak up for Calvary and Chuck Smith because I didn't see or hear any the charismatic behavior or false teaching that John accuses them of. Chuck Smith is one of the great teachers that has made a huge impact in this world and the lives of many of people. He should be honored as such. I think John has a very traditional view of dress, conduct and music that makes it hard for him to accept other styles as legitimate as well. He believes everything in church should look and sound a certain way or there's something wrong with it but it's just his personal taste. It only really matters how God thinks about those things anyway. Have a blessed day and weekend in Jesus Christ.
Thank you all for commenting! I am just coming out of a charismatic church/ prosperity gospel teaching church. Anyway I first came across sound teaching when I came across a podcast for Calvary chapel of Pasedena. Xavier Ríes is an awesome teacher. I recently found a Calvary chapel in my area and I too find that the teaching style is very expositional. I do like John MacArthurs teaching as well. But I was starting to question the Calvary chapel because of what John was saying at strange fire and in this video. I thank you all for confirming that Calvary chapel is a gospel teaching church!
@@followerofchrist5800 Remember that Pastor Chuck Smith authored a book 'Charisma vs. Charismania' that being said, if you've read the book you would know that Calvary Chapel does consider itself a 'charismatic' church which simply means that we believe that all the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for today and should be practiced by the Church. What Calvary Chapel is not practicing today, is the 'charismania' that many churches practice. There is an over-emphasis of the work of the Holy Spirit through the gifts that is not biblical. Calvary Chapel seeks to see the Holy Spirit move through the gifts, yet in a biblical way. Often, all the gifts are thrown out because of the controversial 'gift of tongues' but with a good study of 1 Corinthians 14, you'll see that the gift of tongues is a great gift for personal, private prayer, since it is directed to God & not to man, it is really a prayer language that builds up the believer who uses it. Not all have it, but it has great use for the believer who it has been given to by the Spirit who distributes the gift to believers as He wills.
Calvary Chapel is driven by culture? Really? If it wasn't for the Calvary Chapels, the same-sex bathroom law for grades k-12 in California would now be law. But they stopped it. Maybe Pastor MacArthur should attend the Engage California conference at Calvary Chapel Chino Hills this Saturday. It's all about influencing our culture and taking it back for Jesus! It's especially open to pastors.
Ann, that is obviously not his meaning. He means on the issue of seeking to fit in with the culture on music and being more concerned about not offending people than offending God on accepting experience and similar issues. He is not saying that CC is utterly devoted to fitting in with the culture in every area and do nothing right.
I have to stand with John MacArthur. He has addressed an error in the charismatic movement when many are to afraid to take the errors head on. We have felt this here where we are in the UK, with many of our charismatic friends not listening to the whole Strange fire message before condemning it. We are reformed in our theology now but I was in the word of faith movement for over 18 years and I am so thankful for people like John MacArthur who has been faithful in standing up for God's Word and the Truth it is. Strange fire has answered so many questions for me and I praise God for the courage of these men and their ministry.
The strange fire conference series really woke me up to the truth, for I was an early saved christian and full of years of false doctrine seeking God in all the wrong places with all the faces, as I continued diligently I was lead to a small Baptist Church and that preach gave the simple gospel of Jesus Christ and I understand for the first time who Jesus Christ truly is, why He died on that cross and that I was a sinner no matter how good I thought I was as a person, I needed to be redeemed from my sin born nature by the believe in who Jesus Christ is, He's death burial and resurrection for the forgiveness of my sins, I came for that day accepted, confessed I m a sinner and asked Jesus to come into my life and save me, was baptized and my life has changed, is changing as I walk this life out with Jesus Christ as my Lord and savior, the sanctification process is on going as I grow deeper in understanding by the word of God, I thank God for His mercy and grace, and for preachers like John McCarthy!
This blessed me tremendously. I have come from the charismatic movement and I am thankful for those who faithfully steward the Word. It’s how the Lord set me free!! Thank you!
Thanks, Pastor John MacArthur, for your information. It has illuminated my understanding of the Word and removed the blinders from my eyes. My faith in the body of Christ and church leaders has been restored. After over thirty years in the charismatic movement (raised Catholic, born-again as a Charismatic Catholic, mentored in The Vineyard Church and Word of Faith churches), I am leaving after the pandemic. Enough with the chaos, deception, and manipulation! May God continue to bless you and your ministry!
People might not like what he is saying..But I was blessed by the strange fire conference as many of my experiences in the NAR and WOF circles had me scratching my head as naively I thought that all that called itself church and Christian was infact church and Christian but boy was I wrong. Out of personal study of the word and seeking God He was faithful to point me in the way of truth whereby I saw/see and am convinced that God keeps His WORD the scriptures testify saying “As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him” Ps 18:30 Nothing has given me more solace like knowing I can trust His word for He watches over His word to perform it. “Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.” Jeremiah 1:12 Jesus said this “sanctify them by thy truth THY WORD IS TRUTH.” John 17: 17 (Emphasis mine) Jesus words are so plain here you would have to simply not understand in order to misunderstand them! And if you seek to shroud that as if what He plainly said means something else or something “deeper” even if one used the scripture.. then YOU whosoever you are, are being dishonest and handle the word deceitfully. “ Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” 2 Corinthians 4:1-7 Jesus also said this “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, AND THERE ARE FEW WHO FIND IT.” Matthew 7:13-14 (emphasis mine) those words are also plain as day, one would have to do some weird twisting to misunderstand them and make them mean something else even if but to themselves. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10) Be careful to judge righteous judgement for we are called to do so! And you can only do that by the fixed standard of truth..the WORD! Despite how many may “feel” this is a faithful endeavor to call all men back to the word. See that you don’t despise the Lords reproof. You know what reproof is? Rebuke, blame, disapproval and critique...and He does it in love because He knows best where errors lead and no son of His is without chastisement. And He does this by the Spirit through the Word.
Everything John MacArthur is saying, is exactly what I have been thinking. And dare say, I have expressed my opinions. However, I don't have the background knowledge that MacArthur has. And I really couldn't prove my suspicions. But listening to what MacArthur is saying, bolsters my confidence that I really am in tune with the Lord. And not saying that with a haughty spirit, but rather, being up lifted to know, that just because I receive backlash, doesn't mean I'm wrong. Rather, I draw comfort in knowing that I am in tune with God, and I need not get discouraged when my thoughts and feelings on a matter, are not received nor respected. Thank you Jesus ❤️
Thank you John ,my life has changed since I have started studying the word of God and not just reading the Word.Your ministering and preaching has made my want a deeper walk with God in the past number of years.I thank God for you and others who have the courage to stand and speak the truth of the Word of God.I have since left the foolishness for the truth and yes repented and asked God to reveal every lie with in me and expose it to the the truth of Gods word.
If you have just started studying the Word, then you have not given your previous denomination a fair chance. You will probably leave this place soon, too.
Also, referring to your previous group as foolishness is a common thing that cult members almost universally do with their former Christian affiliation. This doesn't sound good to me, Elaine: you should be cautious about suddenly " finding the true Church" ( again, the usual statement made by Mormons & Jehovah's Witnesses). I don't like what you are testifying to here. Let me guess: if you have shared my comments with any of your new leaders, they will say that I am against the truth, right? Wrong, Elaine, I am not against truth.
Since I left that Charismatic movement, my wallet is safer, my faith is stronger, and I have the joy of my Salvation. The Charismatics are basically a Church for know-nothing Christians. Sure, along with the Seeker Sensitive movement, they will get you to Church on Sunday morning with all their theatrics, but once you start to actually pray to Jesus Christ, repent of your sins, and start to grow in faith, it becomes painfully obvious that the Charismatics are interested in building the size of their Churches, not delivering the Gospel to the people.
I’ve only been a born again Christian for 2 yrs and I feel so blessed that the Lord brought John MacArthur into my walk with Christ, since knowing John’s theology & the truth he teaches my wife & I have been persecuted by the very church I attended to the point our pastor gave us two options, either let him guide our theology (His Charismatic) or leave! We both prayed long & hard and the Lord God our Father in Heaven has led us to an amazing Church and a wonderful pastor. 🙏🏻 Amen 🙏🏻
I’m one of those young big people who has been brought into Reformed Theology via the internet and RUclips. I thank God for godly and biblical preachers like John MacArthur.
It's interesting to see the immense amount of criticism towards John saying he's too "legalistic." Perhaps not everyone will agree with everything he says, and that is fine. We need to be testing the words of every leader in the church today against what the bible says, including John, as I know he would agree with that. However, Paul and Peter repeatedly warn against false teachers in the church and Paul even gives Timothy the command to correct those with false teaching. Is not John doing this? Even if you disagree with John on some issues you have to commend him for boldly sticking up for the truth of the word. I also see a lot of comments about dropping petty arguments for unity and peace within the church. While unity and peace are absolutely essential, are they above truth? I'd say no and that sacrificing truth for unity is not healthy in building community. (see 2 Timothy 3: 16.) Back to Paul. In writing to Timothy the second time, Paul is nearing the end of his life. The very last command he gives to Timothy is this coming from chapter 4: "In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage-with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry." Preach the word. That is what our leaders should be doing to equip believers in making disciples of all people. Unfortunately, it seems we're seeking after revival instead of making disciples. More and more people are attending church for an "experience" or spiritual high, but are coming away with no instruction in the word or challenge to go out into the world and teach others to do the same. Jesus at the end of his life is praying for the disciples and says this in John 17:17: 17 "Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth." Christian sanctification comes through hearing, learning, and knowing the word of God through the power of the Holy Spirit. It makes me genuinely sad when I see those who think studying scripture and wanting to know the truth is too boring for them. Those that chase after spiritual manifestations, signs, and wonders while they forget that its a miracle we even wake up with breath in our lungs every morning because the Lord allows it. I urge everyone to read the scripture with as little presuppositional bias as possible. Study it diligently. Follow the commands of Christ to make disciples. Understand the most important aspect of life is to radically abandon ourselves for the sake of Jesus and making his gospel known to the ends of the earth. God bless you all.
Ive been watching these on the sidelines been in Pentecost all my life this fresh fire is kinda strange phenomemna i accept jumping shouting dancing we. Believe in ACTS 2:38 I dont know alot of john. Mcdonald im aware of protestant theology and catholism tradition
Im not a fan of john mcdonald hes a cesstonalist im not ive been blrn of water and spirit accotding to Acts 2:38 i recieve the holy ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues any church or denomonation that oppses ACTS 2:38 IS ANOTHER. GOSPEL JUST LIKE ROMAN. CATHOLIC CULT
You can not Scripturally put all in the same boat. The Gifts of the Spirit are not an "age movement" and Nowhere do you see that the Gifts have ceased in the bible. There are Many who preach a false Jesus but that doesn't mean there is not the True Jesus Therefore just because there are False ministers that doesn't mean that True Ministers do not demonstrate the Gifts by the Spirit as the Spirit wills. We can not put aside the WORK of the Holy Spirit because these Gifts are to EDIFY the Body ( 1 Corinth 12:7, Ephesians 4:11-13)
Yes I wrote that one down, along with 10 pages of notes, I spent 20 years in a cult like religious org. In Waco Tx. Some may know what I’m talking of, tongues was a requirement and every time I spoke like that, I was always evaluating if it sounded like the elders, and every one wanted to be seen by them. I’m so glad God/Jesus/Holy Spirit helped me to escape, I am on tract, still hearing from HS ON HOW to discern the Truth.
God bless JMac. I thank God that he lead me to godly men who believe the bible and read it as it was intended like Pastor John and R.C Sproul. Stay strong Pastor John you are having a great impact.
I am so appreciative of the Strange Fire Conference. someone I know is involved in the Word of Faith movement and I'm praying they will find their way out.
Because of Drs. MacArthur and Sproul, Legonair Ministry teaching fellows, Paul Washer, Voddie Baucham, and other Reformed Pastors and Teachers the Lord delivered me from the Arminian church, Pentecostal movement, and false teachers on January 29, 2022. I was lost even though I attended many churches including Calvary Chapel. I am now Reformed in my Theology and have embraced the doctrine of election and predestination. It is most assuring to know the Lord has chosen us before the foundations of the earth and Jesus will not lose one of us that the Father gives Him. Embracing Reformed Theology has caused me to leave my former church and it seems I've lost two very good friends who said I've become apostate simply because I now embrace Reformed Theology. It's been difficult finding a church in my area that is solidly Reformed but I know the Lord will direct me to one. I believe the Lord has His elect in many false churches and in His timing, He will call them out as He has done for many of us.
I'm glad that I watched this video early on in the Strange Fire Conference, that and Q&A: Answering the Critics, because it enabled me to listen to the rest of it with an open mind. I now have a better understanding and appreciation of Cessationism. I truly appreciate brothers like MacArthur, RC Sproul, Steven Lawson, and Conrad Mbewe.
@@isaiah92- huh.... what is he right about regarding Calvary Chapel's theology? It would help a lot if you specify. If you mean they are not reformed then yes, they are not reformed. But they are correct. Read all of scripture and not just Calvinist proof texts. Also, just read the gospels and see the character of Jesus and the Pharisees. And, Jesus said we could identify false prophets by their fruits and John Calvin's fruits were tyranny, and persecution and murder of those who didn't share his opinions. "Who so ever believeth" and the fact that it is not God's will that any should perish are clear enough for me. But maybe that's not what you were talking about. I can't tell... if you mean they do not believe the Bible teaches that the gifts of the Holy Spirit have ceased, you are correct again. However I have attended 2 Calvary Chapels and both were very orderly with nothing strange going on I never even heard anyone speak in tongues or make prophetic utterances in either of them.
TheRevering Chuck Smith is the man I have listened to for the last few years even no he has past I needed his teaching comping from we’re I was what a blessed teacher I was so hungry for the word as church didn’t give it me chuck smith will be well blessed in heaven
***** How we love our neighbor depends absolutely on how we love our God, through a personal relationship with Him. If you love Him supremely, then, His love is in you through the power of His Holy Spirit who lives in you, as described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. And that should be the basis of how you ought to love your neighbor, as Jesus described it in Luke 10:29-37. Golfster is correct for pointing out the simplicity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It only becomes complicated if not outright impossible when Jesus Christ is not the Lord of your life.
***** The devil knows who Jesus is, but decided to oppose Him anyway. A personal relationship means when He speaks through His Word in the Bible, you listen and obey, and when you speak through prayers, He listens and grants them in due time. Being an enemy of God is not a personal relationship, OK, as much as, that between two opposing soldiers try to destroy each other. That's what the Bible is for, to reveal the heavenly meanings of the same words, often in contrast to the their worldly meanings. For the meaning of "love," the original Greek translation categorizes it into 3 kinds, brotherly love (phileo), romantic love (eros), and sacrificial love (agape). So, for a Christian marriage relationship, God expects nothing short of a sacrificial love (agape) on the part of the husband PERIOD. Most people reject the Gospel because they don't feel the need for it yet. But do you know how many of them will change their mind right after the Rapture and the beginning of the Great Tribulation, as the cosmic clock is ticking toward the End of the World? Jesus said you can't serve 2 masters, right? So, either He is your Lord or He is not, with nothing in between. And without the power of His Holy Spirit living in you, "picking up the cross and follow Him is absolutely impossible. If you know for certain that you're saved and going to heaven, why should you care for the worldly things which will be all burned up in the End, right? It's just differences in perspectives, either you have a heavenly one or a worldly one. That's all!
***** I was born & raised Buddhist by my parents, grandparents, and great grandmother from a long line of Thai Buddhist ancestry, so, I can tell you that the Gospel didn't make any sense to me at all in the beginning, because no human beings could ever prove to me that God exists, much less whether Jesus Christ is He. That had been the case until I felt the need for God that I began to seek Him, and by His grace, was found by Him. That was almost 6 years ago. Since then, the Lord has worked through me to bring 7 (former) Buddhists to Himself when they're born again in Jesus Christ. It's still a puzzle to me whether God choose man or the other way around. All those 7 all told me that they never thought God exists until He revealed Himself to them that they believed. Faith is a totally alien concept in Buddhism, so until He gave them faith, they could not possibly believe in Him. God bless...
I came from that movement, went to 5 different churches in that movement. Yes, I too used to pole vault the pews. But God, thats all i can say. Pastor, people like me in Texas stand with you. I give my life to Christ, and him crucified. I will not grow weary exposing this for what it is, along with preaching the true Gospel of Christ. We are praying for you, and your ministry. We love you. Just keep standing pastor.
LINDA Wiley JOHN MacArthur is the best pastor in our day. He knows the bible better than anyone else. He speaks the TRUTH. I have listened to him for along time, our churches should pattern theirs after his. Keep preaching Pastor John, people are listening!!! Wake up People, your salvation is at stake. Bless You John, Linda Wiley
Nice testimony. I heard about a man who celebrated 30 years as a member of a certain local church. I thought about that particular denomination as dying out quite a while before he joined it. How could a man join a church that died 50 years ago, stay there for 30 more, and not notice anything wrong? These kind of testimonies are anecdotal, not substantive.
I completely gave up on a Pentecostal church and now I am at Grace baptist and I am so happy. I Never worry about the service being high jacked because the Pastor says God is moving in a different direction. I wanted to thank thank you John, I use to support your ministry monthly then I had back surgery and do to pain I am unable to work so I send money when I can but you still send the partner monthly gift every month, again thank you.
You are not in a Faith building atmosphere, generally speaking, in a Baptist assembly. That is going to have greater consequences as you go on in life. You called the previous church " Pentecostal ", but that is not what a local assembly is about: how about a Christian Church, where you are taught that the Holy Spirit can be received in a separate act of faith after having received Jesus. That is wordy, but I like it better if one desires to label their Christian Church.
I thought of a compromise: stay in the Baptist Church where you are genuinely happy. Take a correspondence course to learn about Divine healing from another ministry. Healing becomes a bigger issue the older we get; everyone needs to learn about it to prepare for later years.
I’ve been exposed to many churches here in Taiwan, and the majority are charismatic churches. It took me awhile to find a good church out here that has sound doctrine and has a heart for the LORD. Through the process, I’m thankful for John MacArthur’s ministry and this conference even though it took me awhile to find. #2020
I love John and I love the strange fire movement. However, I don't understand him attacking Chuck Smith. Though Calvary Chapel pastors may be continuists, I don't see them acting in ways that pentecostals do. I was apart of a pentecostal church, but left because of the unbiblical practices going on. Where did I go? Calvary Chapel. I went there because there was sound doctrine without all of the dramatics. No running, screaming, slaying in the spirit, or crazy tongues. Just teaching. So I don't understand why he keeps mentioning Chuck Smith. Also, Smith has a book called Charisma vs Charismania, where he tells of his leaving the Foursquare denomination because of crazy unbiblical theatrics.
+yhvh4god 1 Corinthians 14:1-5 (ESV) 1 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. 2 For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit.
My sentiments exactly! Calvary Chapel is not even close to being like the garbage involved in strange fire stuff. They are just more casually dressed, are not 5 point Calvinist, nor cessationists.
Christa Otto because it’s a slippery slope and was a church denomination built on Chuck Smith’s personality and influence. Observe where the denomination went *immediately* upon his death. The denomination fractured. Some are Biblical churches and some went around the bend with his son-in-law. I’m leery of entire church denominations built upon a powerful personality.
Being raised Pentecostal , and living it for over 30 years.. I'm the son of a Pentecostal minister taught and groomed to succeed my parents in Pentecostalism .. I can say with absolute faith and conviction the power and spirituality is real and working in their churches today and is not of God...But it is as all powers and rulers, ordained by God.
Seeing this video now. It's 10 years old. John McArthur talking about multiculturalism, changing the history in order to control the history narrative. He was so right. That's why we have the issues we have now.
What about John Piper, Wayne Grudem, J.I. Packer, and Matt Chandler? Is Continuationism the same as Charismatic belief? I am reformed soteriologically, but I am also a continuationist. I believe that all "experience" must be founded on, and filtered through, the Bible through a thorough and correct interpretation. I have studied the differences between continuationism and cessationism, especially with regard to what Paul was saying to the church in 1 Corinthians 12-14. I feel that Continuationists have a better argument for the application of spiritual gifts over the explanation given by the Cessationists.
The Cessessantists are no longer a credible theological position. There was never any biblical foundation anyway. In the past it was more just an attempt to explain why the church didn't see the presence of the gifts.. those who made it weren't coming from the angle of disbelief..But once the presence of gifts seems to be evident in the world wide church a fresh look at scripture occurred amongst theologians (the Holy Spirit was a previously neglected subject theologically). Whether you identify as charismatic or continuationist..is immaterial.. just be biblical.
Problem is when people say they are operating in the Holy Spirit gift of healing They are doing the B.S. Tod White “Growing legs “ When they speak speak in tongues it’s just a random nonsense noise that no one can interpret
Why don’t you study the actual authentic gifts in the spirits in scripture verses the counterfeits today. They are not the same. The ones today are those same ones you can get from demon possessed people, psychics and people who practice divination. If I wanted to see these counterfeit gifts I can just go back to my old religion that can mimic all these modern so-called gifts through spirits.
I appreciate your honesty Dr MacArthur,. I would suggest you take pastor Chuck's advice and simply teach the word of God simply... because you lost me. I'm not listening to you anymore. You said that a person can't change until they are proven wrong; if this is the case then I suppose you'll never change... because you seem to be not brave enough to be wrong about anything. I think you're afraid to feel anything at all. This does not make the whole Charismatic movement deadly and everybody in it wrong. Pastor Chuck started Calvary Chapel because he wanted nothing to do the Pentecostal background he came out of. He broke away from John Wimber and his teaching methods because he thought they were too extreme. But it seems you won't allow anyone to prove you wrong, so I guess you can't be changed (you said it, in the piece, so). Just because emotions are present, does not mean that the truth is not.
Just curious, Dr.'MacArthur, were there any DOCTRINAL compromises that Chuck Smith made with the "Jesus Movement"? I know there were a few accommodations made in peripheral style issues, like dress code, music style, etc
Ken Horn- editor of the Pentecostal Evangel wrote in today's magazine that the strange fire conference was bad. But I strongly disagree. I'm glad that people like John MacArthur EXPOSE the false converts today. Whenever I try to reach out to people it's ALWAYS these hypocrites that oppose me. Because it's offensive to tell the truth, the truth is divisive and exclusive. Absolute truth is Jesus Christ, and people in His day knew He was a man of integrity and did not pay attention to people's egos (Mark 12:14). If you have something against the truth, it's because of pride and love of sin, love the truth and you'll pursue it. Romans 10:2, your zeal for God should be based on knowledge and not emotion or self gratification. If your not willing to witness to someone because of fear of offense, you don't truly love anybody..
@TheAntManChannel Amen! Christ was not at all concerned with people feeling offended. People forget that He *is* the Truth. He is the stone of offence.
Potters Way Church New Zealand agrees and teaches the discernment which you are teaching. These Churches are over here Down under but we are a thorn in the side of these Churches with a Kundalini Spirit. God Bless your ministry and thank you for Discerning the truth and leading the way, Pastor Robbie Drew.
What Backlash! Pastor John MacArthur is truly a blessing a man anointed by The Lord. Not afraid to speak the truth and because of this many people including so called Pastors are afraid of him. He does not speak the feel good consciousness message that people want to hear in order to feel good about themselves.
I feel so sad about this man. I like him very much but he is just totally wrong in much of what he is saying. I wish I could sit with him for a while and just share forty five years of me being filled with the Holy Spirit. The word of God is the love of my life because of being filled with the Holy Spirit. He is the one that opens up my understanding and also gives me a joy in reading His word and worshiping Jesus. Remember, it was the religious people that accused Jesus of being filled with the devil. If me, being filled with the Holy Ghost, leads me into a deeper love for the word and my Lord and Savior Jesus, then how can it be of satan? Though being baptized with the Holy Ghost and fire was the norm in the early church, over time it did seem to fall out of favor but never by scripture. But in the last days, I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Acts 2:17. And, of course, John would not like verse 21, or a thousand verses just like that one. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and though shalt be saved. If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. John, I love you brother. I wish you would read and meditate on 2 Cor. 3:6. Your friend in Jesus.
Acts 2:17-21, while it may seem like it is referring to the revival of sign gifts, is not. It is referring to Joel 2:28-32. Joel 2:28-32 is broken up into two sections. The first is Joel 2:28-29, and that talks about the coming of the Holy Spirit. This happened in the last days. When are the last days? Well, even the first-century was referred to as the last days by Jesus. The first-century to today is all part of the church age, which is part of the last days. Judging by Peter's defense, he is referring to his present time in the first-century. Peter is using Joel's prophecy to validate his sermon and his speaking in tongues since the people thought he was a fraud. He was obviously talking about himself, not us in the future. So, Joel 2:28-29 is not referring to us. Peter then goes on to quote the rest of Joel 2, which, if you look it up, is about the day of the Lord. What is the day of the Lord? Jesus' second coming is often called the day of the Lord. Either way, it is not referring to the same event as Joel 2:28-29, which was the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. I understand how you would come to your conclusion, but it can't be an acceptable interpretation of the passage. Peter is affirming his apostleship by showing the people that the Holy Spirit has come at that time. It has nothing to do with us. Also, you are using one verse to form your entire view of soteriology (study of salvation). Not everyone will be saved in the way that you're probably thinking. If you hold a universalist view, you are wrong. How do we know this? Matthew 7:21-23 says that not everyone who calls Jesus "Lord" will enter the kingdom of heaven. How does this reconcile with Acts 2:21? Well, it's the same answer as my previous paragraph. It's talking about the day of the Lord, which refers to Jesus' second coming. What does Jesus do at His second coming? He establishes His millennial kingdom. Who enters the millennial kingdom? Only those who call on Jesus as Lord. Also, there is more to Joel 2. Verse 32 finishes, "And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be delivered; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be those who escape, as the Lord has said, even among the survivors whom the Lord calls." This is referring to the Jews who survive the mass slaughter that will occur during the tribulation. They will be the ones who survive and be delivered from the tribulation. Again, this has nothing to do with us. In regards to your 2 Corinthians 3:6 comment, I have no clue what you're telling John to do.
Josh Peterson Hi, Josh. Thank you so much for your reply. Obviously this argument could go around and around like a dog chasing its tail. I've already given an enormous amount of time listening with an open mind, to John and also many of the great debates on the subject. If you re-read my above comment you will notice it is very personal; my experience. Just me, my bible and the Holy Spirit to guide me into all truth. And like Paul, I say, "I preach Christ, and Him crucified. Winning the argument to yours or my point of view really doesn't change anything. I preach the Gospel which is the great commission; I leave the rest to God. If you love Jesus and have been born again, we are on the same side; the same family. You just have to put up with having a pentecostal for a brother. I'm sure you preach Christ and salvation that all (whosoever) may come to know the love of God. John 3:16-18. I ask only one thing. Please refrain from calling the charismatic or evangelistic movement a movement of the devil. We can disagree, but giving the devil credit for something God (may) be doing in a billion people's lives isn't acting upon 1 Corinthians chapter 13. May God richly bless you, my friend. Frank.
Frank Rossiter Yes, it could go around in circles, and it usually does. It sounds good to just agree to disagree, but I can't do that. Why? Because it goes against the fundamental reason for why I exist, and that's to bring glory to God's name. Charismatics, by nature, blaspheme every time they speak in tongues. Why? Because they are attributing something not of God as being of God. They are dragging His name through lower, ungodly standards. They may be brothers, but they are failing their reason for living in that regard. If there is one thing that angers me, it's the degradation of God's name, and attributing something of human deceit or demonic deception as being from the Holy Spirit is exactly that. That's why I am so against the charismatic movement. It's ironic that you mentioned 1 Corinthians 13, because that's a cessation chapter. Verse 8 says that the gifts of prophecy (God told me this would happen...) and knowledge (God told me this is His will...) would be done away with when the perfect comes. The gifts of knowledge and prophecy are called "ek merous," or "in part/the partial." This is contrasted by the perfect, which in light of this contrast is better defined as "the complete." So, what is the complete? Well, the word in Greek is "teleion," which is the neuter form of the word "teleios." That means it can't be Jesus' second coming, which would be masculine, which is also never described as being "teleion." However, Scripture is described as being "teleion" in James 1:23. Going back to 1 Corinthians 13:8-12, the complete is called a mirror, which is the word "esoptron." The word "esoptron" only appears one other time in the Bible, and that's in James 1:25 to describe the Bible. 1 Corinthians 13:8-12 also says that when he complete comes, we will see face to face and know fully, as we are fully known. This fits James 1:23-25 as well. James 1:23-25 says that Scripture is like a mirror, and if we read it and do what it says, we're like a man who looks in the mirror and sees himself face to face. Also, Scripture allows us to know ourselves as God knows us. It has revealed completely what God intended for us to know and is all sufficient according to 2 Timothy 3:16-17. In light of this, when Scripture was completed, knowledge and prophecy were done away with because they were partial divine revelations, but now we have the complete and all sufficient divine revelation: Scripture. In regards to tongues, 1 Corinthians 13 says that it will cease, which means "to cease permanently by itself." That means Scripture didn't end it. I would argue that tongues ended before the completion of Scripture. Even though 1 Corinthians is only Paul's third of thirteen letters, he never once mentions tongues ever again, even though the other ten go into great detail regarding the spiritual gifts. Also, saints Augustine and Chrysostom both acknowledge in their writings how tongues ceased by their time. Furthermore, many, many charismatic missionaries didn't bother learning foreign languages since they expected God to give them the gift of tongues. When they got to their destinations, nothing happened. They proved themselves wrong. All of this just goes to show that tongues has ceased, and those who claim to do it in the name of the Holy Spirit are doing nothing but spewing pagan gibberish in God's name, which is blasphemous.
Josh Peterson Wow, Josh! You sound so angry. You said, "If there is one thing that angers me, it's the degradation of God's name." That's pretty heavy stuff coming from a born again believer. I just wrote a letter to a Mormon with love and tenderness concerning his faith. I doubt I could win anyone to Jesus if I told them how angry I was that they believed the way they do. Josh, come on, my friend. If you really think I'm wrong, then show me with love. Didn't 1 Corinthians 13 mean anything to you? You are so angry at pentecostals you failed to receive the simple message, "And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. I'll let you in on a little secret, Josh. God doesn't need defending. He went to the cross because He SO loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to CONDEMN the world, but that the WORLD through Him MIGHT be saved. Don't spend so much precious time and energy being angry at pentecostals. Let's you and I just preach Christ and Him crucified. Leave the judging to our wonderful Lord. He is the only perfect one who can do that. God bless you, my friend. And I mean that with all of my heart. Frank
Frank Rossiter There are things worth getting angry over, and the blaspheming of God's name is one of them. We are here as humans to worship God and bring glory to His name. Someone claiming to be a follower of Christ and then dragging His name through the mud by attributing something not of God as of God is so hypocritical and blasphemous that it should be angering. Mormons don't have faith, at least not in the same God we do. Their views are completely wrong. They believe that Jesus was created, not eternal. That automatically makes them heretics since part of being God is being eternal. They also think Jesus and Satan are spirit brothers, which is obviously ridiculous. They also think God isn't immutable. The Book of Mormon says, "As God once was, man now is, and what God now is, man may be." That's as heretical as it gets right there. They are literally saying that God was once like us, but changed (denying His immutability), and we can become Gods in the future. They also think that everyone will have a chance to be saved after death, completely contradicting Hebrews 9:27 which says that we are judged for what we did in this life, which means no one will be saved after death. So, in conclusion, Mormons don't have faith, because only faith in the one, true God is faith. Since they deny who God really is, it isn't faith. The only way for someone to be saved is by preaching the gospel, which is this: God is holy and just. He can't call the wicked into His presence, nor can He pardon the sins of the wicked. God created everything, including man, and man then rebelled against God and is now completely wicked and deserving of hell. However, Jesus, the Son in the Godhead, came to this earth by being born of a virgin, lived the sinless life that none of us ever could, and died on the cross. While on the cross, He bore the full wrath of God that we deserve and took the punishment for us. He then rose again on the third day, showing that He conquered sin and death. Now, He promises us the same resurrection if we put our faith in His atoning sacrifice and repent of our sins. Putting your faith in His atoning sacrifice means to rely on what Jesus did on your behalf at all times, which means you believe that He lived a sinless life, paid your penalty on the cross, and rose again on the third day. Repenting means to change your mind. You literally become a new creation and now hate sin and love holiness, despite that being contrary to your human nature. Those whose faith is in Christ and have repented will then have Christ's righteousness credited to their account, and they will be declared justified, which means innocent. Being justified saves you from the penalty of sin. You are then sanctified, which means you are saved from the power of sin and can say no. You will then be glorified in the future, which saves you from the presence of sin. That is the gospel. It doesn't depend on anything else, including whether or not the person listening likes you. You do realize that Jesus wants us to judge right? Matthew 7, if you read it in the full context, shows that Jesus wants us to judge others, but only if we are not being hypocritical. We have to take the plank out of our own eye before we can remove the speck in our brother's eye. Furthermore, Scripture also says, "The spiritual person judges all things," and, "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction," and, "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment." These all show that we are to judge and call out what we are not guilty of as well. That's why I call out the blasphemy of the charismatics. It's a grave offense to God and contradictory to why you're alive.
I knew a guy at my old church, who was so enamored by Christian Harfouche. This was about 15 years ago, I think he and his family arranged for his son to go to FSU, or something so they could all be near Christain Harfouche's ministry. Before I knew such a thing, I asked him for the anointing, and he kind of threw up his nose at me like he was so much better. John MacArthur is SO SPOT ON!
I go to Calvary Chapel and I've never seen the charismatic movement there. I believe in speaking in tongues but I've never seen it in 45 years going to Calvary Chapel and I believe in miracles I I've had one happen to me. I have a personal relationship with Yeshua Ha Mashiach. I don't believe in signs and wonders as what Bethel Church teaches. That is what I call a charismatic church not Calvary Chapel. I still love John MacArthur's teachings and I have his Study Bible it's one of the best. We Are One in Christ and we will have different views.
MacArthur pointed out there was a "split" in Calvary ... early 70's .. Go back and listen again ... from the beginning to around 24:00; I love Calvary and listen to JD Farug, Hibbs, Hughes, .. including MacArthur's church, Grace Community. Every one has opinions and that's great. Nevertheless, all the truth is always found in the word of God and His word should always be the first place to go since all men are sinners and no one's ideas or commentaries can ever supersede the word of God;
@@loveofreedom777 well said, God has given us discernment, and if we are in our word everyday and spend time with Him we can't be led astray. I listen to the same people! He's coming soon!
@kristinsummers3412 If the "theology" of the Charismatics were true then *everyone* would receive miracles. And not just one person here and there. People from different countries could come and preach and they'd miraculously be understood though speaking in other tongues. The fact that these things are not what is happening in Pentecostalism among people who say they believe in continuation is strange, very strange.
John has done so much for Jesus and the Kingdom. It is sad that he has also cut himself off from so much the the Holy Spirit has to give. Really sad indeed.
This guy has no idea what goes on at Calvary Chapel. I remember Paul speaking about something like this "For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them." This is exactly what's going on here Mr. MacArthur wants more people in his seminary, more people to buy his books, and more people after his own theological bent.
All who criticize John MacArthur on the Charismatic movement should first read "Strange Fire"; I have, and he is biblically correct. Or to put it another way, we should never criticize when we don't have the facts. John is only concerned about teaching biblical truth, and we would all be better off if we were as devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ as much as he is. (I listen to his sermons an average 21 to 25 sermons a week and thank God for him, his work, his ministry, and his heart for the Lord.) But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 1 Timothy 4:8
I saw him sitting with men here on RUclips in a video from the conference laughing and mocking the people that where let astrey buy these charismatic satanic leaders. Barking like dogs but instead of crying for them before the Lord they sit arrogant and self-righteous and laughing about it. It was nothing less then disgusting to me.
The Lord be forever praised for saving me out of the Charismatic movement! Not only did He show me that the teachings of that movement are heresies but, I miraculously found material about cults as well. That helped me see that I had not been a Christian during the decades of my life as a Pentecostal on three different continents but, I had been a member of a cult. I'll never stop thanking Him and I'll never stop exposing the Charismatics!
I read our Suffieciency in Christ by John Mac Arthur, and it changed my view of charismatic movement I already had doubts which I couldnt put my finger on, most churches are including too much charismatic style or are totally charismatic. The tide is unstoppable, only christs return will stop it in my opinion. The scariest thing is how secular people are accepting gay marriage and outrageous new things. The cultural marxists have destroyed the original european/scandinavian family
It's not just a European traditional family, it is a global Norm. The idea that the nuclear family is a western invention, is a leftist fabrication. I have lived in East Asia for over 20 years, and I can tell you, that the traditional family of Western Society is basically identical to Eastern Society. The people who say it is a western invention are lying.
Ive got so many regrets,1.Not coming to Christ sooner.2.Going to a charismaniac place and not listening to this man and more like him sooner.May the true church go from strength to strength.
@mariodebeer Same here. But let the fact that the Father knows exactly when to save us comfort you. And be thankful that there are still a few good men on this earth who will stand for the Bible and the living Word!
Moody network wouldn't carry the program? Years ago, when I sent away for the application for Moody Bible Institute, they had a firm anti-charismatic stand.
6:59--- I'm not trying to pick on JMAC but since when is HIS DAD, THE STANDARD BY WHICH HUMANITY SHOULD JUDGE THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD? I've noticed that many many Christian ppl PREACH THE GRACE OF THEIR "OWN LIFE" INSTEAD OF GODS GRACE! WHY? WHO MADE YOU THE STANDARD?
How can a supposed preacher talk so much and not quote any scripture? He only actually read one scripture (1 John 2) starting at minute 33:30 and totally twisted it to say something completely different. At minute 40:40 he says 'you all have the anointing, you all have the truth', (as if speaking to the gnostics) but John was not speaking to the false antichrists or gnostics that "went out from us" (v. 19). He was speaking to the ones that had an unction from the Holy One (v. 20). John mentions apostolic doctrine but fails to mention that the apostles all had an experience ( Acts 2) and even had another experience after praying for boldness to preach with signs and wonders following (Acts 4:31). John MacArthur denies the importance of the experience, however, if you search for the word "Spirit" (capitol "S") you will find about 100 scriptures from Acts to Revelation relating the "Spirit" to tongues, prophecy, gifts, revelation, visions, dreams, unity, love, signs & wonders, fully preaching the Word, boldness, power, etc, etc. MacArthur complains about the lack of Biblical miracles in the United States, not realizing that he is part of the problem rather than the solution. I know this sound hard, but if anybody has a love for the truth then they should know what the Bible says. I hope this helps somebody. I'm not trying to condemn anybody, but I want to let you know that being a Christian is a continual ongoing process, as the Greek verbs would interpret. There is more than what we are walking in. Satisfaction and complacency is the problem. John 14:12 is the answer.
It's because he's a theologian and a false teacher. I have always had a hard time trusting theologians. Bible Scholars does deep studies where they actually try to find every verse in the Bible where the word is used. Some may stop there, but others look further. This is why God says to study to show thyself approved. Approved of what? Well, how about trust? I sat, watched and listened to a 43 minute video of hopefully gaining some kind of insight I might have missed in my studies. But no, I didn't. He just used one verse and was complaining about other groups of people. In a way, John MacArthur is a stereotypical jerk who only cares about the pulpit and not the people in front of it.
glaciusinferno This wasn't a sermon. It was him describing to his students what the response has been in regards to the Strange Fire Conference. The response to the Conference isn't going to be Scripture, is it? "John MacArthur is a stereotypical jerk who only cares about the pulpit and not the people in front of it." You have no basis for this, and it's frankly rude. Ten bucks says he's done 100x more than you have for others in terms of teaching, counseling, and ministering to others. It's comments like that that turn off non-Christians and make them think we're all a bunch of judgmental, divisive jerks. Act like the brother in Christ you're claiming to be.
Tobe Witmer According to Jesus, I'm a believer according to Mark 16:17-18, and my name is written in Heaven according to Luke 10:20. I'm an elder of the church according to James 5:14-15, and I fully preach the gospel according to Ro 15:19.
Sidney Smith He doesn't disobey God's word. Just your so-called interpretation of it and what it really says! Instead of wanting SO BADLY to hold on to your religious system that is false, maybe just read God's word. Ive been to so many charasmatic and penticostal churches and they are all false!! Tell me so-called prophetic words and speaking the gibberish garbage they call speaking in tongues. It was a show and it was false! John MacArther is one of the most humble preachers I ever heard and teaches out of the most of God's word I ever heard! Of course you are going to attack him because your system got shot down but John MacArther wasn't the only preacher at that conference either. There was A LOT of preachers preaching the truth of the false garbage that is taking place out there! Your gonna use this one passage that you grossly miss interpreted while all the preachers that spoke used the entire bible to show what they were saying to be truth??? WOW!!
Wow you are not only decieved but you make no sense either! Not even going to respond to the trash the is your response! Try reading all the bible and in it's context. You have no clue on what you are even talking about!!!! WOW You are clueless! What makes you a man of God? cause you speak this gibberish garbage that really didn't start taking place till the 19th century? When the apostles spoke in tongues everyone understood what they were saying. I don't have time to show you though God's word how wrong you really are. You "think" YOU have the true church and you have NO clue on what that looks like cause you think the true church makes much of YOU and YOUR so-called giftings! It has nothing to do with you! I repent almost daily and you should think about repenting of your lies!! Just a suggestion! It's not like I'm going to say anything to you where you are going to stop YOURSELF and look at this in humility! It's clear you don't even know John MacArther or anyone else for that matter. You put him with infant baptism and he is against it. Try learning about the person before you make a judgement call on him. It's clear to me you hear what you want to hear, see what you want to see, and read what you want to read. As long as it agrees with YOUR mindset and YOUR belief system, then it's ok. You couldn't possibly be teachable on anything cause you know it all. Well one thing is for sure I will never make that claim but I do know this. I have gone to these charasmatic and penticostal churches and they ALL were full of lies and garbage. Couldn't question anything they did. I personally questioned John MacArther and he welcomed it and he didn't "claim" to know everything such as you do and he's been a true theologian for 50+ years. He welcomed my questions and talked to me in the fruit of the spirit which by the way judging by your last response is absent from you. You haven't got a clue on what you are talking about. If you continue to make much of yourself and your so-called giftings, the person that better read and repent is you! Stop spreading lies about the true church as being yours when you don't have a clue about it! You use God's word to supposedly prove your point when you exclude the rest of the bible! Stop spreading your lies!!!
Please pray for me about narcissistic abuse I have been experiencing and also that I will have a support system of people to lean on, walk with and share my concerns and prayer requests with. Thank you.
+Scott Campbell Dear brother ask the Holy Spirit to teach you when you read your Bible. Conferences will never teach you the truth from God. Jesus said in John 14: 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Dear brother do you have communion with Holy Spirit ? Please read 1 Corinthians chapter 14: 2 in your Holy Bible and them only the Holy Spirit will teach you is tongues are from GOD... Blessings to you
+Marco Zeron Blessings Marco. Whenever the Word of God is faithfully taught - at a conference, at church, in a Bible study - the people of God can learn truth. The Bible is truth - and the location is irrelevant. In John 17:17 Jesus said, "Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth." May God lead you & me both into His truth.
I was saved during the early 70's . I recently saw the movie, The Jesus Revolution, but I felt somewhat uncomfortable while watching the movie. In watching this video, "What has happened after the 'Srange Fire' Conference" I realized what it was that had disturbed me. It was that in the movie it was culture that dictated the direction of Christianity. Culture; ie., the world, must NEVER affecti Christianity. It is rather Christianity that should always affect culture, amen?
My own experience is that John MacArthur is correct. I've seen how that strange fire will even dissipate after a while, but everyone is still falling over, writhing on the floor, or running around the sanctuary. They begin to feel that's their method of worship. Babbling in gibberish, prophecies that are either vague or don't come true, people acting drunk in the spirit, etc. So you begin to see all these manifestations done in a half-hearted way after a time. A that point, the Church is basically a mediocre, apostate church without any solid Bible doctrine. And as I have said in other videos, the Bible seems to take a back seat. Usually not a lot of Bible opening when this Strange Fire takes hold. I saw Cindy Jacobs get introduced one Sunday night, she got up and asked everyone who was in the upcoming Christmas production to come forward. They did, she waved her arms or something, and everyone just feel over backwards. She didn't even open her Bible. It was all this mass hypnosis, and just plain faking by a lot of people.
+Paul Jenkins Yes, it's true that Charismatics need to open their Bibles rather than roll around and give false prophecies, etc. However, Satan hates things of the Holy Spirit, and so does John MacArthur. I've heard him disparage people "feeling the presence of Christ" (which I have, during times of extreme crisis, although I am not and never was Charismatic), I've heard him mock people "waving their arms," while raising our hands in worship is all over the Bible (Solomon did this when he prayed in 1 Kings)and it obviously pleases God.' I've heard him TELL GOD in a prayer, "You spoke then were silent." It was significant to me (but obviously lost on John), that just four months after the Strange Fire conference, mid-way through his Shepherd's Conference, with more than 3,000 pastors in attendance, the lights when out, and John had to finish his sermon in the dark, with a flash light. The Holy Spirit just spoke loud and clear to John and all of them, yet he said, "I'm still trying to process why this happened; I'll just leave it to the Lord."
Karen Reid I HAVE seen that before. I knew a music pastor who seemed to be into secular music, even productions where Jesus was not even mentioned, and he had the counseling skills of an army boot.. His night to preach went EXACTLY as you said MacArthur's went. The lights went out, and other malfunctions in the sanctuary, and he could not even preach. They tried a portable microphone, etc., but NO. It's like the Holy Spirit slapped him down. And I could see it. Just like you, I left seeing the Holy Spirit perhaps work in a way that I had not expected, but frankly I understood. I saw then that for this pastor, Church was simply the company he worked for or something.
+Paul Jenkins Wow, good way to put it. "The church was simply a company he worked for or something." Sad, as I used to think Johnny Mac was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I received his 3 daily devotionals daily and read his books, but now that I've heard myself what he believes about the precious blood of my Savior, as well as encouraging people to take the Mark, well, I have to be obedient to the Lord in His Word to test those who claim to be apostles.
+Paul Jenkins I wanted to share with you a Scripture the Lord led me to. Ed Dingess put me down for my observation that God judged John MacArthur when the lights went out on him mid-sermon 4 months after the Strange Fire conference. He basically accused me of seeing charismatic/pentecostal "buggaboos" everywhere (although I'm not and never was charismatic). The Lord led me to a Scripture I was able to refute him with though, Isaiah 45:7, 'I FORM LIGHT AND CREATE DARKNESS, I make well-being and CREATE CALAMITY, I am the Lord, who does ALL THESE THINGS." Case closed.
"If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing." Corinthians 13:2. The Strange Fire Q & A didn't have a lot of love for those who are lost. And frankly, they were kind of smug. Furthermore, Christian music has definitely helped my faith. I think God would be well pleased at seeing an entire congregation, with hands raised, singing "Our God is an awesome God, he reigns in Heaven and earth with wisdom, power, and love, Our God is an awesome God." p.s. Pray for me, I have the flu! Karen Reid
After being in Pentecostal, Charismatic churches since 1980, I deeply understand the movement and know it is in great error. There is a false theology that has been draped over Gods word to cover and then distort it ever so slightly, yet creates quite a different church and gospel. To those who believe they are protecting the Holy Spirit by not speaking against false teachers, think again. Its your job. I will spend the rest of my life speaking against the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements. The harm they do is extensive and have hurt me personally.
A man who has the true conviction of his spirit... "no pun " Dr John McArthur has the spirit of truth and Christ in him. Thank you Jesus for honest disciples like this amazing preacher. He know not whose lives he reaches. Humility 🥰
John MacArthur is a brother in Christ Jesus I love him and all my brethren as we all should love and pray for one another. I do enjoy his many sermons and exegesis and have benefited from them. He has done a lot in helping me to grow in the Word. I will pray for him to receive discernment and guidance in accordance with God's will. It's not what we want or like but rather what God so chooses for any of us.
Spiritual arrogance my bad I was saved in a Baptist Church in 1971 at the age of 15 being blessed with a bit of an idyllic memory it was very easy to memorise Scripture in detail. This made me very popular in bible quizzes. I also understood the T.U.L.I.P. doctrines and also firmly believed them, even though I did have a burden to witness and preach the gospel. After spending many hours of bible study the cessation doctrine started worrying me tremendously and also my relationship with God seemed so shallow and I needed more 18 October 1978 the Lord gloriously filled me with the precious Holy Spirit early in the morning about 3am while I was alone in my room there was no fanfare, there was no emotional up sweep, there were no clever Pentecostal clichés only a wonderful sensation of being so close to my Savior that it was almost tangible. I was transformed from a intellectual know it all self righteous Calvinist to a intellectual know it all self righteous Pentecostal It is a human trait to believe that we know all the answers but this attitude is very carnal. Spiritual pride and self righteousness is wrong and sinful. God is not a Calvinist, God is not a Charismatic, God is not a Pentecostal or a Roman Catholic, evangelical He is our Father who loves all His children And by children I do not mean everyone I mean all those who have received Jesus as per John 1:12
+Bobby Baker Excellent response here. Did you read my comment above concerning what Travis Allen, the man who organized the Strange Fire conference, did because I shared my truthful testimony with a man in his church that Jesus came to me in an awesome dream in 1973? I won't repeat it now, but NONE of them obeys the commands in 1 Thess. 5:20-21 and 1 John 4:1 to examine all claims of extrabiblical revelation and to not despise them.
I love finding stories like this! I was also saved in a Baptist Church very young. It took me a long time and some bit of doubts before realising God was God, and not a specific church. I also had never fully realized that Jesus was God in the flesh, nor who the Holy Spirit was. As soon as I knew the truth and believed, I was baptised in the Holy Spirit. It was amazing! God bless you on your journey :)
+Free Slave no not at all the Holy Spirit comes into our bodies at the rebirth Jesus gave the disciples the Holy Spirit in John 20 but told them to wait for the power in Acts1 which they received in Acts 2 this is the doctrine of the baptism of the Holy Spirit which I denied for 7 years
+Bobby Baker ok just a couple points 1 All those who are born again are indwelt by the Holy Spirit OT or new 2 the coming of the Holy Spirit on pentacost had many ramifications including gifts for prophecy to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, wind is the symbol of the Holy Spirits presence, fire is the symbol of His cleansing power and judgment, and inspired speech speaks of the reversal of what was done at Babel in judgement separating the peoples into different groups now bringing people of various languages together from every tribe and tongue, reunited as Gods chosen people. For the early church, specifically the apostles, the outworking of the Holy Spirit through these signs, including healing, was to validate the gospel they were preaching. As you move through Acts it becomes clear that these specific gifts for this specific time begins to cease. Thats not to say, all gifts are ceased. And i know the bible is clear that satan will do signs to lead people astray. So im very careful not to jump on the signs bandwagon, which seems, to a large degree, to take peoples eyes off Jesus Christ and onto the signs. Im afraid many of the many who say to Jesus on the day of judgement will say Lord, Lord didnt we do this or that and He will say depart from me, I never knew you... some of what ive gleaned from scripture...my words of course
This teaching took a sharp turn around the 13:00 mark. I don't care who the famous Pentecostal preacher was, if his approach to sermon preparation is based solely on the move of the Holy Spirit -- so be it!!! I don't say this to defend the so-called "Charismatic Movement." I say this because I believe that every called preacher should rely on the Holy Spirit to lead his teaching over any scholarly text or commentary.
+Vince H- Exactly. JMac worships "historical Christianity," which is nothing but MAN'S opinion about the Bible. He has effectually killed the Holy Spirit, but God's judgment fell on him 5 months after the Strange Fire conference. The lights went out mid-sermon in his 2014 Shepherd's conference, and he had to finish his sermon in the dark, a flashilight his only illumination. He said, "I'm starting to process why this happened; gonna leave it to the Lord." He was typically blind to the fact that the Holy Spirit had just spoken to him. "I FORM LIGHT AND CREATE DARKNESS. I make well-being and create calamity. I am the Lord who DOES ALL THESE THINGS" (Isaiah 45:7)
Amen and thank you for being so honest and speaking the truth in love. God bless you, Sir. You are helping so many frustrated believers who know something is not right, but we could not put our finger on it.
With respect brother MacArthur it says in 1 John 2:27, "But the anointing that you received from him (The Holy Spirit) abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his (The Holy Spirit) anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie just as it has taught you, abide in him." The Pentecostal movement traces it's origins to the teachings of Jesus Christ Himself, Mark 16:17, "And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well." All of this have I witnessed or have partaken in. My question to you is has this been done by the power of The Holy Spirit or by the power of Beelzebub?
***** "No one" maybe not you... Brother I'd love to take you to the hill country of Nepal where all you have to rely on is the supernatural power of God. That's the difference between us you can afford to pick and choose what you believe in with little to no consequence but for me and my team life quite literally (of believers and unbelievers) hangs in the balance.
+DaneStolthed Thank you, brother. I remember being FILLED with the Holy Spirit. It was a much better high than any drug or combination of drugs that I could have done when in the world. Shortly after this long-lasting experience, (never did come completely down, "the anointing abides" in me) I woke up with that same scripture in my brain, having seen it over and over in a dream. I was a newborn again Christian, and didn't know much scripture, so I looked it up, 1 John 2:27. God protected me from bad doctrine. "His anointing teaches" me, and I've had "no need that anyone should teach" me. My Christian friends thought I was nuts. I showed them the scriptures where Jesus healed all, and how He's still the same, Heb 13:8, & how we can do the same & greater, (John 14:12, etc). Now in Central America, ALL get healed, with very few exceptions. Normally, everybody gets healed in almost every church service, all praise to God, through whom "all things are possible". GOD BLESS YOU, brother Dane. May the Lord lead you on every step, and keep you and the team safe!!!!!!! Christians and unbelievers get healed alike. "Signs" are for people that don't believe. However, there is a difference between "people that don't believe' and "unbelievers". Just ask the Holy Spirit. Jesus healed the sinners & multitudes, no problem. However, the people in His home town area . . . it seems as if their "unbelief" was mixed with "offense", and this was a very bad combination (Matt 13:57-58 & Mark 6:3-5). Unfortunately, this is the type of "unbelief" that the Cessationists are cultivating. Daniel, I say this for your benefit now. Daniel Stowers, if you are reading this, then please listen to some of my teachngs on my youtube page, such as "Sin AND Sickness Were Both Atoned For by Jesus" and "Why Miracles Are Important" Please consider the multitude of scripture in these teachings, and then consider how there is not even one scripture in context that supports cessation. If you think there is one, then please quote it, and let me explain it to you more perfectly, and then I will quote ten more that contradict the one. God bless you both. Love ya's.
+DaneStolthed The most ancient and reliable Biblical texts end at verse 8. No one with a sound Biblical understanding would cite verses 9-20 for anything authoritative.
The texts that you mentioned were correctly dealt with and correctly and carefully interpreted in the conference. I encourage you to listen to it and be a person of righteous judgment before throwing Bible verses at people.
+tom clabaugh Sorry brother, but there weren't any scriptures given in context that supported Cessation. I listened very carefully to every speaker, and took notes on all of them. I can clearly show you how they were all wrong. Please, go ahead, and just pick one scripture that you think supports cessation, and I will tear it apart, line upon line, precept upon precept, and show you what it really means, and give at least ten other scriptures to support the correct interpretation, like Karl Stein said above. Please, quote one. Thank you for seeking the truth.
The reformed "revival" isn't a revival at all. It IS growth but hot what we think of as a move of God's spirit. It's not massive, either; only in JM's mind. However, the gospel IS circling the planet. Not just reformed theology but many different Christian denominations including the ministries JM condemns. I used to have some respect for JM but I have little respect for a man who comes off as intellectual preaches lies about charismatics and glosses over historical Christianity. Strange fire was the beginning of the decline and marginalization of JM. I don't judge JM's theology but his condemnation of a move of God apart from some of it's progeny. This will come back on him somewhat like Chuck Smith's curse on a man he was at odds with came back on him. Look up 2 Samuel 6:14-23 Look at the revivals of the 1700's and 1800's. They all eventually fizzled out just like the Jesus movement did, which JM does not care to understand. Sad So much of what JM says here is shallow misrepresentation missed with facts about certain phonies. There have been much worse shenanagans done in JM's denomination by it's main leaders over the last few hundreds of years than the CC hirelings he condemns. I have no epithets or hate for JM. I have a sadness for Christianity being dragged through the mud by strange fire conferences.
God Bless you John MacArthur 🙏🏼
My eyes have recently been opened after being in the charismatic church for 23 years.
I didn’t even really know what context meant 🤦🏻♀️
The Charismatic Movement filled me with self, emotions, imagination, dreams, living in hope and trust from all the words and prophecies I received, waiting patiently for them to come to pass and never did.
I am also very grateful for all the biblical preachers 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
John MacArthur, Billy Crone, Justin Peters, Voddie Baucham, Susan Heck and many many more.
I humbly thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🥰
Praise God for the transformation and renewing of your mind on the truth of the Word! ❤
Praise God!
Amen ! John 10:14 🐑✝

Your comments are a great blessing to me brother!
You are most welcome dear friend!! Joe
I'm happy for you, joe. Sounds like a huge relief to be out of that mess.
Kristine Trinidad Thanks so Much!!
Denouncing a doctrine because of excesses in people's lives, through a false doctrine, may bring peace to some, but it won't make any friends in heaven.
Just listened to this sermon again. Listening to John MacArthur preach the word of God will always make me feel blessed. Thank you Father for the gift of your precious Son, the Lord Jesus, and His gift of the Holy Spirit through you Father.
praise God for opening my eyes to reformed theology,,,oh how I love Jesus
I was 35 years in the Charismatic movement. It took a major confrontation with Biblical truth and an exposure to the plainly ridiculous nature of Charismaticism to smack the heresy out of me. Thanks be to God!!
Mark Rogers me too
I'm very grateful for the strange fire conferences, but I'm a continuationist.

Cant stop watching, McArthur is simply one of the finest pastor of our time!
It's actually painful to hear a prominent pastor smear God-fearing, Jesus-loving, expository-preaching brothers in Christ who speak for truth and influence our culture in many positive ways, such as Calvary Chapel.
He's definitely one of the greatest preachers. You should check out Charles Lawson as well. Preachers who are not afraid of truth.
@@ecardy23 Absolutely!!

Tina Mullins try 9marks.org to search for a church with sound theology
Hi Tina, have you been able to find a faithful ministry to be a part of?
Dan Rebolledo Like Christianity?
I believe Tina was struggling to find a Bible teaching church and relying on internet resources. That was what my question was in reference to
"My people perish for lack of knowledge." Hosea 4:6
Thank you, dear Lord for keeping us close to You, for not letting us fall into this heresy.
Thank you, Pastor John for your clear and unapologetic defense of the Word of God.
As a church musician it's lovely to hear the defense of our spiritual heritage in the Great Hymns of praise we have loved for centuries.
The best teacher ever!! Cannot hear enough. He is truly blessed and so am I, every time I hear him teach!
I will always be grateful to John for being the tool that God used to bring me out of the charismatic movement.

Same here. The Lord brought his book Charismatic Chaos to me.
(Not because of the speakers, not because of the location, but I highly believe that it was because I publicly proclaimed that I wanted to seek Jesus with all my heart when I made that decision to walk up to the front of a church in front of 100s of people.)
I couldn't even stop myself from screaming because I felt like a tiny speckle of dust in the presence of God, and instantly He chased away my depression.
Mm
Amen! I had a similar experience many decades ago which resulted in an unshakable faith that has kept me ever close to Jesus during a 3 year period of my spouse’s separation from me and a chronic pain condition. Jesus is all and always enough. Praise Him!!!
A charismatic Christian came into my hospital room when I
was very sick and the doctors had already prepared my family for my soon coming
death. He laid his hands on me and prayed. I made a supernatural recovery to
the amazement of the hospital staff.
I am alive, and I am a Christian today because of this.
Herb Jones that’s wonderful brother!
Herb Jones Thanks Herb Jones!
Herb Jones with all due respect you are alive because of the sovereignty of God. He can and do have Mercy on who He will. Blessings
You are deceived and that is sad.
@@chlonh Completely agree with you.

Thank you!
People seem to be interested more in an experience than the truth.
Experience is truth on display
David Fritch
Yes...Sometimes. Sometimes not. Reference: Our Creators (Lord Jesus Christ) wilderness temptations. Also, that the just should live by faith [in God]!
Josh Peterson
I agree in part.
Because of seeking the Truth, and obedience, the experiences in my life came, usually unexpectedly.
I'm from South sudan 🇸🇸, Africa. John macarthur is the true teacher .I do appreciate his devoted time to teach us the words of God .
Thank you Johnny Mac for opening my eyes. you saved me and my house from false doctrine.
Only Jesus saves, and MacArthur can't say if/when that happened to him.

“Johnny Mac” ... 😂😂 I like that!
God bless you :)
I actually lead worship and stay away from all the new, feel good songs that aren’t Biblically sound.
I agree in Chuck Smith teaching.
Out of personal study of the word and seeking God He was faithful to point me in the way of truth whereby I saw/see and am convinced that God keeps His WORD the scriptures testify saying
“As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him” Ps 18:30
Nothing has given me more solace like knowing I can trust His word for He watches over His word to perform it.
“Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.” Jeremiah 1:12
Jesus said this “sanctify them by thy truth THY WORD IS TRUTH.” John 17: 17 (Emphasis mine)
Jesus words are so plain here you would have to simply not understand in order to misunderstand them!
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” 2 Corinthians 4:1-7
Jesus also said this
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, AND THERE ARE FEW WHO FIND IT.”
Matthew 7:13-14 (emphasis mine)
those words are also plain as day, one would have to do some weird twisting to misunderstand them and make them mean something else even if but to themselves.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10)
Be careful to judge righteous judgement for we are called to do so!

🙏🏻 Amen 🙏🏻
I see this is an old clip, BUT Gods Word never gets old!! - blessings, brother Levi in Sweden
(see 2 Timothy 3: 16.)
Back to Paul. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry."
Preach the word.

Thank you John MacArthur such an eloquent speaker!!! Glory to God he has given you such an amazing gift!

"It's not about the magic in the man, it's about the truth."
Thanks John MacArthur for standing up for the truth! 🙏❤️
God bless JMac. I thank God that he lead me to godly men who believe the bible and read it as it was intended like Pastor John and R.C Sproul. Stay strong Pastor John you are having a great impact.
God is separating the sheep from the goats; the goats that are in the church, that is. And there are many. I am with you, Pastor MacArthur.
I am so appreciative of the Strange Fire Conference. someone I know is involved in the Word of Faith movement and I'm praying they will find their way out.
"Those who believe need no sign and those who don't believe will challenge any sign given"
Because of Drs.
You said Chuck Smith was a WONDERFUL MAN of God and even wrote forwards for him.... How can you say this about him now that he is DEAD?
John MacArthur is starting to show his true colors.
Hes right about four square theology.
Calvary chapel 101.
Not about culture part though.
However I have attended 2 Calvary Chapels and both were very orderly with nothing strange going on
I never even heard anyone speak in tongues or make prophetic utterances in either of them.

1. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul. 2. Love your neighbor as yourself. It's really not that complicated.
How's that going for you?
That's all!
bud1990100
pretty good, so long as I never leave the house.
The Lord bless you John for having the courage to call the false church out. I so wish I could have been at your conference! Liked.

JOHN MacArthur is the best pastor in our day. He knows the bible better than anyone else. He speaks the TRUTH. I have listened to him for along time, our churches should pattern theirs after his. Keep preaching Pastor John, people are listening!!! Wake up People, your salvation is at stake.

Nice testimony. I heard about a man who celebrated 30 years as a member of a certain local church. I thought about that particular denomination as dying out quite a while before he joined it. How could a man join a church that died 50 years ago, stay there for 30 more, and not notice anything
wrong?
These kind of testimonies are anecdotal, not substantive.
I completely gave up on a Pentecostal church and now I am at Grace baptist and I am so happy. I Never worry about the service being high jacked because the Pastor says God is moving in a different direction. I wanted to thank thank you John, I use to support your ministry monthly then I had back surgery and do to pain I am unable to work so I send money when I can but you still send the partner monthly gift every month, again thank you.
Martha, Martha, back surgery? Where were the elders of the church anointing with oil? Call them from the previous place if you have to.

+yhvh4god 1 Corinthians 14:1-5 (ESV)
1 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.
I’d go to a Calvary Church, but I’d be mighty picky, after Smith’s death.
Agreed!
Problem is when people say they are operating in the Holy Spirit gift of healing
They are doing the B.S. Tod White “Growing legs “
When they speak speak in tongues it’s just a random nonsense noise that no one can interpret
If you Go to 2 Corinthians 12 you’ll find Paul can’t receive healing for the thorn in his side
I appreciate your honesty Dr
MacArthur,.
I watch this everytime. Thanks John Macarthur.
Just curious, Dr.'MacArthur, were there any DOCTRINAL compromises that Chuck Smith made with the "Jesus Movement"? I know there were a few accommodations made in peripheral style issues, like dress code, music style, etc
Not major salvation altering ones, but important ones regarding sovereignty and sacraments.
If your not willing to witness to someone because of fear of offense, you don't truly love anybody..
who is a false convert? Since i hold to a view that Holy Spiritual gifts are for today.
And it has greatly assisted me in ministering to people. Knowledge and wisdom are both spiritual gifts.
@TheAntManChannel
Amen!
Decerning spirits is a 1 Cor 12 gift. Is it still functioning.
What Backlash! Pastor John MacArthur is truly a blessing a man anointed by The Lord. Not afraid to speak the truth and because of this many people including so called Pastors are afraid of him. He does not speak the feel good consciousness message that people want to hear in order to feel good about themselves.
What would he say about you using the word "anointed"?
He can't possibly be anointed he doesn't believe in that...check your facts.
Verse 32 finishes,
"And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be delivered; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be those who escape, as the Lord has said, even among the survivors whom the Lord calls." This is referring to the Jews who survive the mass slaughter that will occur during the tribulation.
Yeah, I go to Calvary Chapel and am hearing it's charismatic for the first time here.
MacArthur pointed out there was a "split" in Calvary ... early 70's .. Go back and listen again ... from the beginning to around 24:00; I love Calvary and listen to JD Farug, Hibbs, Hughes, .. including MacArthur's church, Grace Community. Every one has opinions and that's great. Nevertheless, all the truth is always found in the word of God and His word should always be the first place to go since all men are sinners and no one's ideas or commentaries can ever supersede the word of God;
@@loveofreedom777 well
said, God has given us discernment, and if we are in our word everyday and spend time with Him we can't be led astray. I listen to the same people! He's coming soon!
@kristinsummers3412
If the "theology" of the Charismatics were true then *everyone* would receive miracles.
I am glad to be able to respond to this video. I think this should have been done years ago. Thank you.
Such crap
Yeah, he does. He was THERE when the Calvary Church denomination started. His church got some of their seekers.
Don’t buy his books and don’t like him - that’s fine. But it’s clear you don’t know his history in SoCal.
(I listen to his sermons an average 21 to 25 sermons a week and thank God for him, his work, his ministry, and his heart for the Lord.)
But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.
It was nothing less then disgusting to me.
keep it real Thanks for keeping it real!
There is many things wrong with the strange fire, like cessationism for one.
I'll never stop thanking Him and I'll never stop exposing the Charismatics!
macarthur is one of the most sound teachers ever, thank yahweh for sound preachers in these last&evil days
God bless grace church
May they be found in His favour.
@mariodebeer
Same here.
STANDARD..Because no one else has a backbone to do something like this
How can a supposed preacher talk so much and not quote any scripture?
Sidney Smith
He doesn't disobey God's word.
1 Cor 3:13…..the fire will try every man's work of what sort it is...
Please pray for me about narcissistic abuse I have been experiencing and also that I will have a support system of people to lean on, walk with and share my concerns and prayer requests with. Thank you.
Went to the Strange Fire conference myself - it was fabulous. The speakers were first-rate and thoroughly Biblical.
+Scott Campbell Amen dude.
+Scott Campbell Have you received the spirit since you believed?
Paul
+1bbbbbaaaaa Of course I have, since, "Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him." Romans 8:9
Hi, is this available on a podcast by any chance? I really appreciated this. Thank you for posting this!
I've heard him disparage people "feeling the presence of Christ" (which I have, during times of extreme crisis, although I am not and never was Charismatic), I've heard him mock people "waving their arms," while raising our hands in worship is all over the Bible (Solomon did this when he prayed in 1 Kings)and it obviously pleases God.'
I've heard him TELL GOD in a prayer, "You spoke then were silent." It was significant to me (but obviously lost on John), that just four months after the Strange Fire conference, mid-way through his Shepherd's Conference, with more than 3,000 pastors in attendance, the lights when out, and John had to finish his sermon in the dark, with a flash light. The Holy Spirit just spoke loud and clear to John and all of them, yet he said, "I'm still trying to process why this happened; I'll just leave it to the Lord."

I HAVE seen that before.
I think God would be well pleased at seeing an entire congregation, with hands raised, singing "Our God is an awesome God, he reigns in Heaven and earth with wisdom, power, and love, Our God is an awesome God."
p.s. Pray for me, I have the flu!

James Smith how have you been hurt specifically
James Smith it has hurt me and my family too. I thank God for everyone who will stand against this mess.
You're all full of shit!
What are health Benefits of Marawana?
Laura Dickson And you’re vulgar and hostile. So there.
Spiritual arrogance my bad
I was saved in a Baptist Church in 1971 at the age of 15 being blessed with a bit of an idyllic memory it was very easy to memorise Scripture in detail. This made me very popular in bible quizzes.
I also understood the T.U.L.I.P. doctrines and also firmly believed them, even though I did have a burden to witness and preach the gospel.
After spending many hours of bible study the cessation doctrine started worrying me tremendously and also my relationship with God seemed so shallow and I needed more
18 October 1978 the Lord gloriously filled me with the precious Holy Spirit early in the morning about 3am while I was alone in my room there was no fanfare, there was no emotional up sweep, there were no clever Pentecostal clichés only a wonderful sensation of being so close to my Savior that it was almost tangible.
I was transformed from a intellectual know it all self righteous Calvinist to a intellectual know it all self righteous Pentecostal
It is a human trait to believe that we know all the answers but this attitude is very carnal. Spiritual pride and self righteousness is wrong and sinful.
God is not a Calvinist, God is not a Charismatic, God is not a Pentecostal or a Roman Catholic, evangelical He is our Father who loves all His children
And by children I do not mean everyone I mean all those who have received Jesus as per John 1:12
So are you saying you were saved and for 7 years you were saved without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit? Thats new now isnt it?!
+Free Slave no not at all the Holy Spirit comes into our bodies at the rebirth Jesus gave the disciples the Holy Spirit in John 20 but told them to wait for the power in Acts1 which they received in Acts 2
this is the doctrine of the baptism of the Holy Spirit which I denied for 7 years
+Bobby Baker ok just a couple points
1 All those who are born again are indwelt by the Holy Spirit OT or new
2 the coming of the Holy Spirit on pentacost had many ramifications including gifts for prophecy to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, wind is the symbol of the Holy Spirits presence, fire is the symbol of His cleansing power and judgment, and inspired speech speaks of the reversal of what was done at Babel in judgement separating the peoples into different groups now bringing people of various languages together from every tribe and tongue, reunited as Gods chosen people.
He has made a stand for the Gospel in the midst of all the false teaching in the body of Christ today
I love the uninhibited teaching without alterior motives that Pastor Macarthur offers.
Thanks for sharing this. It gave me some interesting insights into Dr. MacArthur's thinking processes on writing the book and exposing those involved.
But as his (The Holy Spirit) anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie just as it has taught you, abide in him."
The Pentecostal movement traces it's origins to the teachings of Jesus Christ Himself, Mark 16:17, "And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well." All of this have I witnessed or have partaken in.
Anyone know what book he was talking about? (Answering Strange Fire critics and questions?)
Would also like to know
The reformed "revival" isn't a revival at all.
Look up 2 Samuel 6:14-23
Look at the revivals of the 1700's and 1800's. They all eventually fizzled out just like the Jesus movement did, which JM does not care to understand. Sad
So much of what JM says here is shallow misrepresentation missed with facts about certain phonies. There have been much worse shenanagans done in JM's denomination by it's main leaders over the last few hundreds of years than the CC hirelings he condemns. I have no epithets or hate for JM. I have a sadness for Christianity being dragged through the mud by strange fire conferences.
I think we can all admit that Martin Loyd Jones DID have a power of preaching like nothing I have ever heard
Was this book that he talks about making answering questions ever made? I cannot find it.
Praise the Lord for gospel ❤️
thanks John Mac
