@@ooc329 Here's what it looks like to me, just from the coin counts: Gusty Garden's Gravity Scramble: An optimized route was found with the Rainbow Star that obtains every coin from the thorn bushes on the chain chomp planet. Additionally, for the two cannons that seemed to only give 2 coins, it turned out there was a way to stomp on the cannonballs right before they explode to stall them and allow cannonball C to spawn without co-star. The Golden Chomp: A method was found to reach the last cannons of the level, then backtrack all the way to the chain chomp planet to collect the Golden Chomp star. The optimizations for Gravity Scramble also apply to this star. Deep Dark Galaxy: A method was found to escape from the Ghost Ship section without co-star, probably involving the mega shore launch alluded to in the video. (For Bubble Blastoff and Guppy and the Underground Lake, this lets you route in the 6 coins that can only be obtained by clipping back into bounds in the ghost ship section. For Boo in a Box, this lets you switch to the Bubble Blastoff version of the level. For Plunder the Purple Coins, this lets you hunt for the gold coins from the rest of Deep Dark, although the cannon isn't available in this mission, which means the coins from the Gateway ripoff planet are still inaccessible without co-star.) Underwater Cosmic Mario Race: Presumably, some very precise route was found that lets you detour for an extra coin and still win the race, at least when you're up against Cosmic Mario and not Cosmic Luigi. Treasure of the Pyramid: Your guess is as good as mine, though it may involve a way to backtrack from a later portion of the normal level to reach the pyramid after collecting a few extra coins.

19:31 while playing the game again last year, I was grabbing that multi-coin block during the boss battle, and a fireball hit Mario and caused him to repeatedly slam upward into the multi-coin block and rapidly deplete it in a second. I checked my footage and it didn't give me more than 10 coins, but it could be useful as an annoying speedrun trick.
Well, something similar happened to me. I was replaying the game and I accidentally get burned under a coin block with nearby fire, which caused me to clip through the block, it was very weird...
It was an honor getting to work with you on this project, Golden! Thanks for putting up with me over the course of these months! To answer the questions you asked in the outro, the hardest max coin challenge actually appears to NOT be Airship Armada anymore, but is actually Gusty Garden's "The Golden Chomp"...! You are so much more dedicated than anyone else who has ever tried a challenge like this. Most people would’ve given up super early in levels like battle rock or ghostly galaxy but you pushed through and I respect that

@@GoldenTGB Yeah, Super Mario 64 does have some interesting coin stories, but they're mostly related to coin duplications and the one "impossible" coin in Tiny Huge Island, both of which have been thoroughly documented already. Sunshine also has interesting coin challenges, and actually that might make for an intriguing video as well, although it wouldn't be nearly as long as this one since there's only 8 high scores in that game. Also the raw gameplay for Sunshine's max coins is overall more tedious because you can get 999 coins in half of the levels.
Going and rewatching this video over a year later because I remembered how great it was. This is an absolute gem of a video and it’s shocking it was made by someone of your relative size/experience, especially at the time. Of all the “Mario Challenge” videos on youtube, this is one of the best. Waiting with bated breath for the addendum/follow up video.
1:22:25 This part of the planet can also be reached with a backflip followed by a wall jump, as there is a ledge to the left of the three loose coins that is a bit lower than the larger platform right next to it. I mention this only because getting to it is most likely less precise than a well-placed triple jump.
Amazing video, really helps show the extensive work and tricks used to obtain all these coin records. It’s fun to know I was recognized in this video, even by small standards. I will say I was also the person to first realistically understand and explain the cannon mechanics, but both you and Nate have brought it up a notch. I used to be the one to hold the most max coin records before being beaten by Altar and then Nate. I still am somewhat keeping up with the new coin OOBs and mechanics and I hope to find new ways to obtain more.
Super Mario Galaxy is the most nostalgic Mario game for me, and I often feel like it doesn't get as much attention in speedrunning, challenges, ect, as other Mario games like sunshine or 64. Awesome video, this deserves to blow up and im willing to bet its going to! This was one of my favorite games back in the day and im glad so many people are still playing/making content on it today
How does this not more views, the work done in this video is amazing, both actually getting the coins and making an amazing video and guide. May the RUclips algorithm gods shine upon you, as you deserve it!
This video was great, really loved all the different pieces of theory crafting and thinking outside the box (which is one of my favourite things about challenge runs). Incredibly underrated video, definitely deserves more views as you did something incredibly ambitious despite your smaller size.
Great work on this challenge, you spent a lot of time working on it. For some reason I really liked the outro, it really shows how tough it was making this video. and you both have good conversation, you should do more collabs moving forward too. These challenge videos are amazing whether it's no coin challenges or max coin challenges.
I remember doing some of these levels last year for Cyberscore. Nathaniel's videos were extremely helpful! My favorite mission personally was the second mission of Space Junk galaxy. Mainly because of the out of bounds exploit. Nathaniel was also very supportive throughout my journey too. By the way, if you're looking for other coin videos, I heard Sunshine's coin missions also have a good amount of glitches and such to cover as well. This video is absolutely incredible, thanks for making this 😃
45 minutes in and I can already congratulate you for the effort and editing, awesome video. The stars on Batterock left me exasperated the entire time, can't even imagine what they did to your sanity
I got 84 coins doing the lilypad glitch on the first star in Beehive, but I didn't reach far enough on the save Luigi mission, lol... Here we go again....
I've been playing smg again and I thought about a max coin run, thank you for making this a reality! I can't imagine the pain of some of these levels,,
Absoutely loved this video!! Such an cool challenge and its crazy how complex this game could be lol. And the video was very enjoyable to watch, earned my sub and respect for this insane feat :)
Ah ah, you brought back my memories of the time I did just that, without any outside knowledge mind you, but I did for instance knew shooting starbits at explosives gave coins, so I tried to max everything. I remember my brother making a comment that, during that period, he would keep hearing coins even after I turned the game off.
39:23 Tip: if you do a Ground Pound right between the ground and the breaking ground Mario will break it and stay on the edge, giving you more time to collect that coin.
What a great video!! Really surprised from the quality, it feels like you would be some kind of 100,000 challenge video RUclipsr with videos like this!! Of course... Now I will have to look forward to an eventual Mario Galaxy 2 Max Coins, knowing how powerful the Orange Luma is would make that one painful though
Bro, you earned my respect and my subscription. Galaxy is probably the best Mario game, so props to you, You should hide from NicoBBQ and Nathanial Bandy now. You got all the coins, which Nico doesn't like, and you got all the coins, which Nathanial was probably going to do.
Fantastic video! I really enjoyed it. I've been keeping up with the videos that Nathaniel Smith sends in the cyberscore discord, but really didnt know much about how hard this game could be. I've done most of Galaxy 2 max coins and that game is mainly just time consuming since many galaxies can get 999 coins. Thank you and congratulations for making this video! It was a fantastic watch!
Thank you. I was really certain that more people would bring up Galaxy 2 I might do that if there's demand for it But I don't think it would be that fun of a video compared to Galaxy 1, if more then half of the galaxies were just "there's a trick to get infinite coins" I personally haven't looked into it
Thanks for the support! I'm currently taking a bit of a break from Galaxy max coin stuff (simply because I've been doing it for a while at this point), but I'm planning on doing more coin collection after a fair number of new discoveries get made in preparation for the addendum video!
So I think the production value put into this is great, and I actually really like the premise as well. That said, if it’s not too redundant I’d love to see a 0-Coin Challenge video in the future, as that’s a run I intend to do when I revisit Galaxy and would love to get some tips for. (I know coin counts reset on death, so maybe that’d be a shorter video.)
The 0-coin challenge has been done in part by some other people already! Here's a link to NicoBBQ doing the challenge, although he only beats enough levels necessary to beat the final boss rather than every single mission. ruclips.net/video/8lrhh2ut-RE/видео.html
This is far more detailed than the usual challenge video. Nicely done. I know you can get out of bounds of the cheep cheep planet in bubble blastoff using cheep bounce + momentum + 2p but not sure if you could use that to make it back to the main level. If you could, I think the boo in a box coin count could be improved
sadly this is a year after the fact. but if you return to mario galaxy, what i always wanted to do was climb on the exterior of both the fire planet and the duel element planet in freeze flame galaxy.
We will return at some point! Just... be patient. My resources are all fairly busy at the moment, and will be throughout the year. But I am working on more stuff!
@@GoldenTGB im glad your still an active channel woo. but ya i tried on both versions of mario galaxy to get on top of the 2 planets so i can explore. i always wanted to see the fire pole of the duel planet from above, and walk around on the crust of the core planet. on one of the hemispheres
Aw man, I’ve always wanted to see someone do this! I’ve always thought about going back and seeing about doing it myself, but I don’t have that kind of dedication haha
If you have an idea, work hard on it This video was made relatively cheaply, lol Default Windows and Microsoft Office stuff. Nice tip!
Dude this probably took extremely long to make! Mad respect! 👍
I used to do mega jumps all the time on the green star planet! Spent hours there trying to do them, not knowing that was what was happening
Bro, you earned my respect and my subscription. Galaxy is probably the best Mario game, so props to you,
You should hide from NicoBBQ and Nathanial Bandy now. You got all the coins, which Nico doesn't like, and you got all the coins, which Nathanial was probably going to do.
And there was even a "Nathaniel" that worked on this project too!
...wait a minute...
Amazing video! This deserves way more recognition!
a 2 hour video about mario galaxy? ....thank you
Damn I'm glad I kept getting recommended this video. It's a real treat. 💝
This is an interesting idea, you’re really underrated, subbed
Fantastic video! I really enjoyed it. I've been keeping up with the videos that Nathaniel Smith sends in the cyberscore discord, but really didnt know much about how hard this game could be. I've done most of Galaxy 2 max coins and that game is mainly just time consuming since many galaxies can get 999 coins. Thank you and congratulations for making this video! It was a fantastic watch!
Thank you. I was really certain that more people would bring up Galaxy 2
I might do that if there's demand for it
But I don't think it would be that fun of a video compared to Galaxy 1, if more then half of the galaxies were just "there's a trick to get infinite coins"
I personally haven't looked into it
Thanks for the support!
I'm currently taking a bit of a break from Galaxy max coin stuff (simply because I've been doing it for a while at this point), but I'm planning on doing more coin collection after a fair number of new discoveries get made in preparation for the addendum video!
Incredibly well made video, especially for how few subs you have. I hope you blow up in popularity soon
This must have taken ages! So impressive

Amazing video!
this video was has so much detail in it, keep up the amazing work
This is far more detailed than the usual challenge video. Nicely done. I know you can get out of bounds of the cheep cheep planet in bubble blastoff using cheep bounce + momentum + 2p but not sure if you could use that to make it back to the main level. If you could, I think the boo in a box coin count could be improved
@@dendonodon2858 do you know how to view the gravity fields of different planets? Would be incredibly useful
sadly this is a year after the fact. but if you return to mario galaxy, what i always wanted to do was climb on the exterior of both the fire planet and the duel element planet in freeze flame galaxy.
I know Galaxy 2 doesn’t save your coin score, but you should try this in it still.
Good work GB. Your effort and commitment shine through.
Thank you algorithm for this absolute gem.
Aw man, I’ve always wanted to see someone do this! I’ve always thought about going back and seeing about doing it myself, but I don’t have that kind of dedication haha
If you have an idea, work hard on it
This video was made relatively cheaply, lol
Default Windows and Microsoft Office stuff.
If you can set goals for yourself, and maybe have a partner to keep you in line, you can achieve a lot
This took 7 months, off and on to make
So, if I can do stuff, a little nobody with 500 bad videos on RUclips can make this
You can do something like this too
Great video, and great explanation about the max coin challenge. I've now deduced that my max skill level is 7 X'P
I'm super glad you found the video! 👏
