    Have you ever heard of Boy's Town the orphanage for Boy's started by Father Flanagan in 1918. This is there motto. When a boy carrying another boy who had polio was asked by Father Flanagan...isn't that difficult...aren't you tired? The boy answered...He ain't heavy, he's my brother. It's about the joy of sacrificing for others

    The brother in this sense is a broader sense in that we are all brothers/sisters on this journey of life together

  • @Thundralight
    @Thundralight 2 года назад +8

    Originally, the saying came from Father Flanagan's boy's town. There was a boy there that had polio and had to be carried up the stairs and when the priest saw the other child carrying him up the steps, he asked him if it was too difficult and the child replied he ain't heavy father, he's my brother. Boys town still uses this image today with this saying imprinted beneath it. Scanning the comments here, it is moving to read how this song evokes nostalgia for so many people. When this song came out, the world was in turmoil, but there was still room for innocence, and music like this takes you back to that state of mind. Today the world is in turmoil and a lot of the music of these times is just abrasive and aggressive and nasty and provides no respite or escape, a lot are electronic autotuned and not coming from the singer's soul or heartfelt feelings such impossible dream, you will never walk alone

    The song was inspired by the Hollies watching a news story on TV during a tour..regarding a war famine disaster in Bangladesh where the people had to flee to escape.... a newsman saw a 12 year old girl carrying her younger brother on her back...on a journey to saftey ....she was asked." How can you carry him so far on such long journey"....she replied.." He aint heavy...he's my brother"..hence the song title..

    If you go back in time you would feel each and every song was trying to bring everyone together. (EDIT: it didn't matter who or what race the person or group was) Most of the songs from this era in time were stories, some sad and some happy but they all touched every walk of life and most all of them were saying things that we all wanted to say to our loved ones.
    Today's songs are more in a way dividing people or groups of people and if they tell a story it generally ends in a bad way. It makes people feel there is no use. Nothing good will happen. After listening to a few song of today, you feel like going out and kickin someone's butt, instead of giving them a hug which is what we all really need.
    In my opinion, and I'm a white guy so everyone can talk their shit about my natural born privileges in life, but we all as a human race were very close to crackin the race issues forty or so years ago, but it all fell apart. Now we all hate each other again. So I say lets piss off Putin and get him to push the reset button (nuke) and start over again.
    I love you reactions. You really listen to the lyric's.
