"Allowing the right time to explore, allows us to soak in and be present for, what we're present for." I love this quote Dave! It really is true and it is a good reminder that no matter what our passions are sometimes taking a break is every bit as important to success as putting in the work. When we do what we love, we need to be 100% or we are cutting ourselves short. I think all athletes understand this.
There is so much value in presence and appreciation/ understanding of it. It's distinctly different for each of us, of course. But finding that place in our minds and souls and allowing it... is important :)
This is a masterpiece. No doubt one of the best fly fishing videos i have seen to date. The surroundings, editing, and speech is all absolutely flawless.
I love the cinematography. You learn a lot from seeing how the trout reacts to the fly. Not to mention the epic scenery. I get a kick out of Amelia’s excitement, can’t help but smile. Great team.
Glad you really enjoyed that one! This was an incredibly special moment in our lives, and one that will stick with me for life. Quite spiritual in a lot of ways. Ha !! ... "BEEP" language coming from Amelia ??!! Good, makes her more real to me. You guys are the only trout-on-fly people I watch on RUclips. Always great content.
NOPE!!! The fish we saw are the fish that are there. There are no others. Cloudy skies would absolutely kill your chances of seeing them, slow you down to waiting for a rise, and ensure that you would walk on/spook the few fish that you did find (aka see a dark smudge bolting for cover). Bright sun helps you see them in this situation and preclude the above to let you know what you are dealing with. These are the scenarios that people that aren't used to these situations (aka our friend Tom) aren't referencing when they speak of cloudy days and the exceptional hatches that can occur. It takes some getting your head around it but these situations are keenly distinct and different. Cheers
@@jensenflyfishing Oh don't get me wrong, I'm sure the sight fishing is at its best with the sun at that angle. I was talking more about aesthetics and mood of the valley itself! I love the principle of saving those best days in the mind and not rushing back for a while. I buy that except for when there is unfinished business to attend to. I had one of those great days last week and would not normally hurry back but I have a hankering to try again on a massive brown that destroyed me on a power run for a log. I’d lost my 3x spool so was going 4x which seemed reasonable handling the other big fish. This fish hit the parachute Adam’s in a shallow riffle and as soon as I tightened it burned me on its run. I reckon 2x might have had a chance. I want to have another crack soon as it interferes with my sleep!
Yeah, bugger! Not for you but for us... the season after the epic noise year was set to be extremely good dry fly for huge, willing fish and we can't get there. 😥😫😭😰🤬 ah, all in time. Keep having a great season! 🍻
@@adamchristo3082 depends on how you fish - we fish by moving into position and doing shorter casts - hence, we need the flex feel of the F so we can feel the rod load when using little fly line with longer leaders.
Was you using barbless hooks? Excuse my oversight if all you use is barbless. I just was wondering if you do how do the fish stay on in the jumps? Thanks for sharing.
The frame rate of the video does funny things to video - actual speed is 6x faster than what you are seeing so if it looks like there is slack line - it is literally a split-second here or there and there is far more tension than what appears. We fish a mixture depending on hook size so not sure which were or weren't. The best jumpers in these scenes certainly were as we tackled them with light & small flies. Cheers

Spettacolare 👍👍
Thank you! Truly a place we loved.
BRAVOOO....
⚘⚘⚘⚘
😎😍 Thanks for watching!
Wow😍
Gorgeous spot in life! :)
You’re a lucky guy!
Yes we are. A bit of work in keeping 'us' going but so very worth it 😊❤
If you’d like to adopt a 58 yr old disabled veteran for 3 months of NZ fishing, I have the time. Love watching your adventures.
Would live to but even we can't get in the ctry this year! 😭
18 foot leader blew my mind haha
Definitely has its place! 😊👌
Super
Thank you
Beautiful film work and art in motion. Thank you! What kind of landing net is that?
That's a MacLean's trout weight net from New Zealand. There are a couple N American distributors as well. Cheers
where is this?
South Island of New Zealand.
Stunning landscape. Curious if you're fishing on private or public land?
That's public land accessed through a long-time station house down valley.
Simply love you films and this is one of the best,
May I ask what model and weight Orvis rod you prefer in such conditions?
That's really great to hear. An incredibly special few days for us in that video.
We use a H3F 5wt for most of our fishing.
Would not the H3D be better suited in those windy valleys?
Cheers
What weight and length fly rod were you doing
Helios 3F - 9 ft 5 wt
at 5:15: that's life :) :)
😍❤😎 absolutely
Min 15:02 OMG!!!
Such a deliberate, "I want that" kind of take!😃
Love u guys! Greetings from Chile!! Best couple and Flyfishing videos ever!!
😍🤩😍
simply a stunning place! :)
👍
Best little creeks 😊👍
Was this recent?
As we mention in the video, several years ago. 🍻
Great video but the music was brutal!
Terrible music... just terrible. I mean, it had feeling, and goodness knows we can't share that! 😉🤣😱🍻
Love those Rainbows, love that footage.
Absolutely stunner place to 'be'. Could watch rainbows pop in that water all day (or even 2 days!) 😍😊
