What can I do? I am not a "Dead Head". I am a neighbor of the Summer Nationals so this band in many of its phases played in my backyard. This song- just especially along with New Speedway Boogies- I love EVERY version, no matter how long or how unique these may have been. Each has a unique quality from its time and their lives. Like old friends, distant from where we used to be; in the horizon from ever where we had been before, just always happy to see, to listen, to feel these vibes, these songs- love 'em. Don't need a reason. High beams on the moon... ~ RaVen ~
Got a Shakedown my very first show, 9/6/80 at Lewiston, Maine. 14 minutes of crushing funk in the great outdoors to open the second set. Always loved this song, even though some originally mocked it as "Disco Dead", in the end everyone loved it. Jerry on the "Tiger" guitar, is Jerry at his best.
I love all the new dead and company stuff. john Mayer's guitar playing gets me through the day every day. oteil is the best bass player on this planet.
Yeah, brent on the fender Rhodes. Dope. Hopefully he utilizes the envelope filter or way pedal. I love electric piano+guitar pedals. That's that crack cocaine keyboard sound. Hits quick and leaves you wanting more
I saw at least 10 GD shows with Jerry that were not as good as any of the FTW. I saw at least 10 GD shows that were as good or better than anything on the planet. It melts into a dream.
don't compare. Two different band from two different decades. Plus, who's fucking songs are they playing? Mostly Jerry's. Jerry was a guitar God and the heart and soul of the GD. PERIOD!
LoloYodel Sugaree, Scarlet Begonias and To Lay Me Down were very sweet. Bob Marley died that day so 5/12 was somber. 1981 was a blast, but it isn't better than the best of '70 and '72.
Funky shuffle from a bunch a white dudes... the boys really mixed it up. I think you've got to give some cred to Graham for his love of the the blues all the soulful stuff he brought to the San Francisco scene. The soup he left us sure tastes fine!
If you are referring to Bill Graham, he gets zero credit for contributing to the creative genius of Grateful Dead music. I knew Bill and even hung out with him back stage at shows often. I think he was a good guy and I liked him plenty. He for sure helped the band in many ways but is silly to believe he had a hand in the artistic creative soup of Grateful Dead soulfulness.
Jerry. “Don’t tell me this town ain’t got no❤️” Bobby “Don’t tell me this town ain’t got no heart ❤️” Brent “”Don’t tell me this town ain’t got no ❤️” Rinse…. Repeat…
It's still disco Dead. It's no Terrapin Station or Morning Dew. I remember when this song came out . It is a 👍 version. But next I'll probably hear what a great Day Job version you people heard.
Starlight Theatre, Kansas Ciry..Shakedown/Samson, To Lay me down. After the epic show at Manor Downs in Austin, TX. And the Zoo for Jerry's 40th Birthday. That was the best summer of my young life.1982
Nothing is more 80s Dead than getting interrupted by a commercial halfway through this video.
I’ve noticed that
Just more proof that he was such a great guitar player that light beams came from his elbow....
That's a mic stand
no, those are beams of light
Jerry was a healer of people and sadly destroyer of himself
Hahhahaha. That was GREAT lol. Thank you for the hearty smiles =]
@@robbyv.526 definitely a light beam.....
Awesome loved going to the dead in the 80s....go Brent!!!
That second solo brought tears to my eyes
Church
Lite shown on him all of the time , his aura was so big ! ❤️🐰🐇🌹☠️💀☀️🕊️🪭😍🥰😘love him still after all the years gone by !

Beautiful Place Ta See Dead !!!!, The Beggining Of Brent !!!!
Shakedown was always one of my favorite tunes to hear at a show actually. The jam is transcendent and always so much fun to dance to!⚡️💀🥀
"When I can hear it beat out loud!" Holy shit that gave me chills. Remember this like it was yesterday .... Jerreeeeeeee!!! ❤😊
Any show that has '.......Veterans......' in the title has got to be the best!
It doesn't get much better than this.
but it does. try 8/3/82. you'll see.
3/24/81
Absolute Smoker!!!! The beginning of Jerry's second guitar solo; how the hell does he not snap strings plucking that hard! Epic
Persian magic lol
When Jerry and Bobby get it right it s out of sight , really super tight, a delight all night !

And Phil! RIP
"The sunny side of the street is dark, maaaan."
"Maybe that's cause it's midnight."
"Bruuuuuu...."
sweet and groovy voice...Love you,Jerry
You can tell from his voice in the beginning that he was in the zone
The man's voice gives me chills he's the best
Awesome ❤
This Shakedown got my day off to a good start
Listening to a dead set first thing in the morning sets me straight as an arrow
I love all the new dead and company stuff. john Mayer's guitar playing gets me through the day every day. oteil is the best bass player on this planet.
Dont go spouting that in public.......if you can help it.
@@spunngroovington9135such a disgrace
The greatest dance band in history!
There is no doubt.
I've always been fond of the "Wah-Wah" pedal!
Envelope filter
Groovy version... in the pocket... and slick.. just had to click on this after hearing that trainwreck at Soldier field
gregg jarvis I did the exact same.
Brad J ditto
gregg jarvis Right? Fare thee well was garbage.
+michael doying fare thee well was not garbage. what do you expect them to sound like? they are 25 again? nope. fare thee well was amazing
Very first FTW show Santa Clara,ca for sure. The rest of the shows....not so much....
Love the smoke.....Thank you for sharing

Early 80's Dead. Nothing better!!
@@chrisgould7606 It is a nice vintage, has a flowery bouquet, a touch of rye and a nutty finish.
@@chrisgould7606 except for early 70s dead lol
I'm pretty sure I learned how to play Shakedown on Drums to this show years ago.
...Don't tell me this town's got no heart...you just got to poke around...
Awsome set... Enjoy it because it's gone.. All we have are these old videos.. Enjoy.🔤🔤😀😀🐟🐡
Jerry "getting fat in the basement" LOVE IT!
I saw at least 10 GD shows with Jerry that were not as good as any of the FTW. I saw at least 10 GD shows that were as good or better than anything on the planet. It melts into a dream.

Likewise, my friend.@@jerrygarcia2993
Nice indeed, but the BEST show was the day before, 5.11.1981 and still in New Haven !!! THAT was "hot" !
Oh come on, as good as 12/26/79? I really doubt. Might not be on archive dot org cuz Dick also picks it (#5)
LoloYodel Sugaree, Scarlet Begonias and To Lay Me Down were very sweet. Bob Marley died that day so 5/12 was somber. 1981 was a blast, but it isn't better than the best of '70 and '72.
5/11 was one of the best of 1981, for sure. Absolutely stunning show.
The Greeks were totally amazing too. lol
LoloYodel caught. Both

Late Spring Tour, But There's Still Alot Of Us That Were There !!!!

Dragoneye White dudes can funk it up to. hahaha Just gotta poke around.
Beethoven once said "Only the pure in heart can make a good soup."

Graham gets all the cred in the world for what he helped do. This is pure Colombian blow and a happy Jerry. Fuck yes!
Yes! White dudes! First thing that I wanna know is what color is their skin. Great observation!
Jerry. “Don’t tell me this town ain’t got no❤️”
Bobby “Don’t tell me this town ain’t got no heart ❤️”
Brent “”Don’t tell me this town ain’t got no ❤️”
Rinse…. Repeat…
3/21/81 is also a great one
Brent is melding again.

The Dead ain't the Dead without Phil on bass.
Otiel is no slouch.
Icon O'Clast ^^amen. If they are any semblance without Jerry, Otiel freakin' jams. And I'm sure Phil would be welcome at any time
And then John ruins it all

Disco Dead! ❤️
It's "funk" not disco.
Anything is possible.
no. 8/3/82 is light years better. this may be the 7th best shakedown ever.
Starlight Theatre, Kansas Ciry..Shakedown/Samson, To Lay me down. After the epic show at Manor Downs in Austin, TX. And the Zoo for Jerry's 40th Birthday.

Don't tell me the dark is from your i's

Was this a sound check? There's no crowd noise.
+Andrew Heller probably a soundboard recording
+Andrew Heller you can hear some crowd cheering, not much but some
I'm pretty sure this is a board. Never heard an aud. sound so good
You can hear the crowd leading up to the first chorus.
Nah just a really good tape... anyone know the taper?
Response no words of wisdom of their flat brain and need to stand up for the what is Right.Save the world first CHILDREN
Jerry getting FAT in the Basement :)
This whole show's a smoker.
jerry would have supported the notion of defunding & abolishing the prison industrial complex...
