    One thing I love about my crosscuts, they always start on the first pull!. Thanks for the video.

    Neat video. I've seen some of the old USFS crosscut videos here on RUclips. I'm hoping to give this a try later this spring. I have some crosscut saws coming to me next month. They'll probably need restoration, but that's part of the fun. Thanks for sharing this video!!

    Jim: Did this class also go over maintaining/sharpening the saws?

      No, there were no classes on sharpening. This was more of a workshop to share general ideas on crosscuts and provide input for the new USFS saw policy.

      Okay. My main reservation on purchasing a saw is being able to sharpen it correctly and finding someone to show me first hand seems to be pretty difficult to find. Might just stick with the axe and cheap bow saws.

      Check out the following page for info on sharpening. There is enough info that with a little time a person can learn to sharpen a saw and a couple sources for hands on training. Also some folks that sharpen professionally.

    at 6:10 are they using a felling saw for bucking

    • @jimthode
      @jimthode  6 лет назад +1

      Yes, that's a falling saw. Some trail clears use falling saws because they are easier to pack long distances.

    Pretty handy if you don't want to cut the firewood yourself😂
