- Today we are going to talk about one major issue with my Indian Scout Bobber. The battery. Many of us have experienced problems with our batteries and we should cry out to Indian Motorcycle to make it better for those becoming new Indian Scout or Indian Scout Bobber owners.

Yup, my battery cut out after only 2800 miles right before a 600 mile day trip. Had to jump start it to get it to a autozone where I picked up a new battery. Runs like it always should have now.
Side note.. highly recommend the duralast DL-800L battery jumper/phone charger. Takes up minimal storage in the saddle bag and is great for a quick jump or a charge on your phone. That OEM battery is absolutely GARBAGE
Nice call out on getting the jumper.
The timing on this video is impeccable, I just replaced my battery a week ago. 4K Miles, about 8 months old. Pretty much always kept on a tender. Absolutely ridiculous.
Sorry to hear. It's a shame because this bike is SO AMAZING in all other aspects.
more useful info again! thanks for the upload. i bought a 2021 (used) scout bobber a couple of weeks ago off of facebook marketplace. it is a beautiful machine. simply wonderful. but, i went to my garage today to simply start it and run it for a bit just to make sure the battery would be ok. i work in healthcare patient bedside. so, i can go for days without even seeing it. but i am still dreaming that i am riding it. i live near gettysburg Pa and there are a multitude of back country roads to ride on. the other day i was off from work. i wanted to go for a 'short ride.' almost 65 miles later i got home. btw, facebook, not a fan. only to buy indian scout bobbers. always enjoy your videos.
That is a beautiful area, enjoy and ride safe
I'm right underneath you in Frederick County, MD! Was going to make a Gettysburg run three weekends ago, but got trapped in a Honeydew list!
Really glad i came across this video, waiting for my new bobber to be built and im always on top of maintenance.
You'll love your bobber....
I hope so, good work on the channel ive subscribed, beileve we talked a while back i also owned a Porsche
Yep, My first one lasted 3 months. Swapped it out under warranty, we will see how long it lasts.
Good luck, hopefully it lasts considerably longer
Thanks for the video. I just got my Scout Bobber for Christmas and I truly love it. Your video riding with one hand makes me feel nervous for you...especially as you round turns. Stay safe.
Enjoy your bobber
@@dadwithabike thank you. It's been great!
Why? It's easy to do with any basic skill.
I've been doing one hand on 2 strokes, croch rockets, and cruisers my whole life.
Just because you're new doesn't mean everyone is.
What handlebars do you have? And do you have a link?
Have you changed the clutch? If so what do you recommend, OEM or Barnett?
I did change the clutch, I went to a Barnett ... not sure if I'd recommend the Barnett because others have complained about those burning out easy (I lasted great for me though). The Rekluse Radius X is another good option
Had the same issue with my Scout. When I took it to the dealership they would not warranty it. They said it was not the battery that came in the bike. I bought it brand new and bike was only four months old. Had to pay $300 for them to install a new battery. And it was still not a “Polaris” battery.
Yeah, it's such an issue....wish they'd sort it.
Exactly. Ended up being a bad starter solenoid. And bad battery. They ended up going to a battery place in town and charging me for it. That battery didn’t last 2 months. The last battery got my self has lasted 3 years.
Great video!!
The OEM battery is not AGM, right? The one you replaced with is an AGM, so the Battery Tender should be a AGM compatible, right, or can you use the same battery tender?
I can still use the same battery tender I've always used. I use Batter Tender brand that is 12V and 1.25A
@@dadwithabike Thank you. Bought one earlier this week based on your advise 👍🏻. Funny thing is my bike hasn't arrived yet. Booked my Scout 16 weeks ago...waiting 😪🙂
OEM battery is AGM.
@@omegachar4754 Thanks for confirming
This has been continuous problem for me on my 2021 Scout Bobber Sixty. Along with that, the leak at the grommet that leaks near the stator. My dealer told me that my stator was bad yet they told me I could continue to ride the bike regardless which did not make a lot of sense to me as the stator creates the spark for the bike. I continued to ride the bike another 7500 miles over this past season with the stator being bad according to the dealership. This makes no sense. If the stator is bad the bike shouldn't start at all correct? Or, am I just running on the battery and that is why I keep having problems with batteries in the bike? I recently purchased the anti-gravity 360 battery, thought the 480 was a bit over kill. Waiting for it to come in. Any comments, suggestions and replies are most welcome!! Thank you.
How do you like the cruise control?
My battery managed to last just under a year. I put on nearly 8k miles over the last ten months and it finally shit out on me a few weeks ago. Polaris really dropped the ball with whatever cheapo batteries they use.
Yeah, I told someone else....I hope Indian is watching 😜
Just bought mine 1 week ago,it was a demo unit with less than2 miles and getting out of the dealer, stopped working. They Changed supposley for a new one. I hope to not have issues in the feature, but now I am worried
Yup. Not even a month and experiencing slow roll over with stock battery.
Yeah, if you replace it you'll be solid
I swear I literally just watched JimBobbertons video where he had the exact same gripe!!! That & the Speedometer leak/Odometer mileage issue
Get a die hard AGM powersports battery. I have one in my 2003 Victory V92C. Those bikes are notoriously Hard on batteries. I've had a die hard in my Victory for 3 years with no issues. Just go get one and dump the OEM battery. Then no more problems.
You dumped the Road Warrior fairing? Why did you do that? curious
I didn't, I still have it - I switch between the Cafe and the Road Warrior from time to time. 90% of the time I run with the Road Warrior
How many miles do you have on your Fast Mask gloves? Do you still endorse them?
Couple thousand. I still love them
I just bought a ‘19 Scout Bobber. Will see how it goes with mine. I’m in Fort Worth btw if you’re ever my way holler at me.
Will do and congrats on the bobber
I got a '19 also and 25k miles later and 2 years, still cranking on the same battery, guess I got lucky
@@powergolem89 yeah. The Facebook group is full of people with battery problems. Good to see another rider putting the miles down
I guess I have been very lucky. 8 months and nary an issue... fingers crossed.Never on a tender.. as a matter of fact I need to buy one.
That's good to hear, I think you are a minority with this battery
What type exhaust is yours?
I ride with the Two Brothers COMP S 2-1 Exhaust
Is it the alternator that can not keep the battery charged?
Well motorcycles dont use alternators they use stators and their operations are much simpler. Sadly no, just a crappy battery
My triumph only last two months after I bought it and it was brand new! If the battery isn’t charging the battery just goes
Well with the bobber it is mostly cold cranking amps. The OEMs won't do well with early morning cold starts.
Hey man, my 2021 Bobber has had to have the battery changed out after 3 months. The OEM ones are garbage.
Yeah, that sucks. I hope Indian is watching 😜
Yep, mine cut out after 2800 miles, right at 3 months old
I have the original battery in mine (2019 with 17k miles) and I’m just waiting for it to die! Made Salty order a battery jumper for our last trip just in case 😬
Yeah, it's sketchy at best. You get a good one or not - crap shoot extraordinaire!
I have an 18 bobber and my OEM battery lasted 3 yrs ! I'm one of the lucky ones !
I've seen your on forum that has had the battery replaced up to 3 times under warranty !
I went and bought a Duracell and have had NO issues !
I have 2016 Scout 60 and I only replaced the OEM battery last year so I got a good run out of it.
I'm going to Mission City next week to sit on/test ride a Scout Bobber!
It's an awesome bike ... lots of power, I won't be getting rid of mine ANY time soon
@@dadwithabike Is it the Scout Bobber Sixty or Twenty?
@@ItothaGO it's 2019 regular
HD batteries are top quality. Good for about 4 years. I have 3 HD dealerships within 20 mins of me. So yes that does suck.
most stock batteries only last 2 years - i have a shorai thats been pumpin haaaad for 7 or 8 years, been so long i forgot when i got it
Nice ... haha, I heard your comments with a boston accent - I think it was the haaaad part
My OEM battery sucks, I am going to replace it ASAP like right now! It's only 6 months in use and it sucks big time.
I just bought a new battery for it , I ride it every day. And the other day I didn't use it. And it didn't start. Idk what's wrong . 😕
What is the model number?
What gloves are you wearing?
They are from Fast Mask
My factory battery went bad only 3 months after I bought it. Had roughly 500 miles on it. Called the dealer and was told he was being honest told me the stock batteries are garbage and recommended me to replace it with a non stock battery. So after that bought a tender and a new agm Duracell but went out this morning it started but threw a check engine light. Low voltage even after just unplugging from the tender. Wouldn't start thank you Jesus I was only a block from home so just turned around and parked it back in the garage. The Duracell had a two year warranty I bought it a week over a year ago lol.
Are you freaking kidding me!? I knew about the battery issues from the Facebook groups, and then it happened to me last week after 10 months owning the bike. And now you're posting this! Put it on a battery tender, starts up, but haven't ridden it yet to see if starts up again after the charge and a ride. Taking it to the dealer before it gets too cold.
Sorry, wish I would have done this sooner - I know it's a pain in the ass!
@@dadwithabike No probs... Actually, it validated that the battery isn't a one-off issue - that it only happened to me... Thanks!
What windshield is that?
This one is the Memphis Shades Cafe Fairing
Can confirm
Yup, sucks
When I bought my scout a couple of weeks ago, the dealer here in Florida warned me about the battery issue and gave me a 4 battery a year coverage. If that wasn’t a red flag, I don’t know what is
What gloves are those?
They are from Fast Mask. I highly recommend them
@@dadwithabike thanks man - just ordered a pair! 🙌
Yeaaaa, but I don't use Facebook, is there an IG group?
There are several but none that get into the batteries. A quick google search will take you to some Indian forums about which ones to get.
< 3,000 miles on my 2021 Bobber and had to have 2 replacement batteries already. Not cool.
Yeah - I truly hope Indian sorts this out
2020 bobber 60 with around 8000 miles never any battery issues.
Awesome
My 2021 bobber battery died after about 4 months/2400 miles.
They tried telling me I have to put it on a tender every time I park it for more than a few hours.. that's just terrible.
Yeah, you shouldn't have to do that especially if you ride it. It's just a bad OEM battery
hi, what does "I have to put it on a tender" mean?
@@janm5854 A battery tender (charger) maintains the proper storage charge of a vehicle battery when it's not in use by trickle charging it and keeping it topped off so it doesn't get damaged by getting too much discharged.
@@omegachar4754 thanks
here i am 2 batteries and a starter in three months... ok for now but about having to put it on a battery tender is nuts. Do you charge your car every night? If you are cranking and or riding every week no need. Got it back last week and have not been charging it...
Oh Lord have mercy on Indian for doing this to us ! Trying to keep it classy but oh my there was a lot of sware words involved in taking my battery out and see if I can save it by put it on a tender! This was a knuckle grinder to get out but bleeding hands and several minutes later I got the thing out! Why did you do this to us Indian ? Yes indeed very poor engineering here!
Yeah ... there are lots of tight spots on that bike - I've busted my knuckles more times than I can recall - lol!
Haven’t gotten my scout yet (still about 4 weeks of waiting left, hopefully) but Yamaha has the same issue. My MT07 is only 4 months old and already giving me sluggish starts even while riding nearly every day.
Love the MT 07 the scout will make you happy
I have one week left of waiting but now I’m worried about this battery problem
@@Dooomsdaygaming if you experience it, just have them replace it under warranty
Cruise control?
Yessir, from MCCruise
🙌
#fist-bump
I’m getting the scout bobber in about a month any tips bro? This is my first Indian motorcycle and my first cruiser
So basically swap out the battery soon as you leave the dealership with the bike! Got it!
Harley batter's are the same.
Yeah - I wish manufacturers would do a better job with stock items on bikes in general
Yuasa batteries are the best.
I'll have to check them out
the batteries are shit. I'm on my third one since 2017
$120 for a battery! Go to Walmart, about $25-40. Same size as my riding lawnmower. My Subaru battery did the same thing, after less than 2 yrs.
Uh, no but thanks :)
Sure first tires suck one seat sucks exhaust sucks why would the battery be different
All stock tires and exhaust usually suck.
Stock battery is trash
Mine failed within 4 mouths made in china.
yeah :/
