The joker card was a reference from the manga, in the manga the joker was like the grim Reaper he basically guided souls to the afterlife and he was the one that made the games because he wanted to give them a second chance. Also the meteors hit different areas at different times and that’s why some people were there before some others like the face cards. I don’t think there’s going to be another season

Up until "Anne's Journey" all geography of japan is accurate. What Anne found was that the game area was surrounded on all sides by seemingly endless mountains, which is the farthest thing from accurate geography for japan which is an Island Nation. That proves that this world cannot be real.

LOL that's why when some people got those crazy injuries in the game (Niragi, Heiya, and Aguni) they didn't die because they had a strong will to live. I'm glad y'all noticed immediately how their injuries paralleled towards the end of the game. Also in card games the joker card typically means wildcard which is essentially what life is. The games are pretty straightforward even though they're really violent... if you do a certain thing, this will be the outcome. But in life it's not that simple, you can do really well and still get death or punished. Bad people can get good things. Life is the most dangerous and chaotic "game" of all. I also like to go back to the opening scene in episode 1 and you can see Usagi there.

  • @tuesdae666
    @tuesdae666 Год назад +24

They all had NDEs (near death experiences) where they went to Limbo, Purgatory, Borderland (whatever you call that place between life and death). Those who lost (perhaps bad luck, perhaps their body weren't strong enough, maybe their injuries were too much so they just died quickly - eg Arisu's friends probably died in the first 5 secs of that one min) just naturally slipped into real death, while those who won and had the intense will to survive were given a chance to choose (if you read real-life accounts of NDEs, many of the survivors say they were given a choice to go into the light or to go back to life). I feel that those who were citizens were those who were in comas or became vegetables or in intensive care but unlikely to really survive.

I think part of what made the ending so good is that we genuinely still felt like it could be anything. I think all the dead ends and misdirects throughout the show were essential to creating that perfect ending. I don't think they existed purely to misdirect though. I think Ann was trying to solve the world because that's within her nature and she ultimately couldn't solve it because because it was always impossible to solve from within the game itself. I think all the people in the video room betting on the games were players in their own game and they got lasered because they all lost because they were the ones who lost their bets, and the ones who won had already left the room.

So in the show, it was only in Arisu's head while he was fighting for his life. Whatever the players did in the games where all in Arisu's head/dreams while he was flatlined for a minute.
The face card citizens were also there during the meteor event but they got hit first and went into the Borderlands before the others, and were already in serious/coma conditions in the real world and they died when their bodies died in the real world.

Ann actually discovered that outside the city are just mountains and endless forest which made sense at the end because the meteor wrecked just the entire city. Hence, the "Borderland" where the games are held is only within the site of destruction. Her conquest was more like to show the audiences what's outside of the city and give us a clue and not some form of problem-solving quest.
Also, the reason Ann managed to survive after so many shocks of the defibrillator was because Kuina held her hand while she made the choice. Which is like bringing Ann along with her.

There ain't gonna be a season 3 because that's quite literally the end of the source material. But yall should read the manga because they definitely cut out a lot of stuff that would make the entire borderlands and this whole story make sense. Not to mention they changed the ending a tiny bit with the Joker part (the Joker is supposed to be an entity whom Arisu eventually comes to face with). I guess that's why the people who only watch the show are confused with what the ending means. I went on to read the whole manga after season 1 because I knew there was more to it and the show itself doesn't explain the story as well as the manga does. The show itself is great but the manga is far superior.

IMO, if you stayed in borderlands, you become a citizen which would mean your body in the real world is in a coma. All of the previous face cards are probably folks who have suffered before the meteorite and have become citizens there. Take the King of Clubs for example; in their flashback, you here the lead singer tell them it's time to pick the worst driver out of all of them to drive them back home after the show. It would infer that they got into an accident and arrived in the borderlands. They finished the game and chose to stay to become the new face cards which would imply that in the real world, they got saved, but ended up in a coma.

Glad I saw y'all watch this this, I love your reactions. I will try to break down what I think this show all means. Sorry if this is a whole essay.
Let's start with Niragi. There is no redemption for him. He was just a terrible guy with a sad past. Niragi was bullied in high school and probably all his life. Everything that occurred in the borderlands actually happened. He had the same appearance and was older before the meteor, therefore participating in the games had no effect on him. We don't know what he did before the meteor hit but I assume he was still a bad guy.
However, this season and a small portion of the previous season revealed that he is extremely insecure and that he acts in this way because he believes that being a bully will help him survive in both worlds. This season, if we pay close attention to his character, it becomes clear that he is at battle with himself. He is aware that he is bad, but he struggles with it. Part of him wanted to be good. That's why at the last second, he changed his mind and decided to live. It isn't a redemption story, but it does indicate that he has a desire to change.
When it comes to the people in this show, I think mostly everyone wanted to survive and live anyway they could. With this place being the border between life and death, anyone who is on the verge of dying is sent there. The some game masters and citizens were not apart of the meteor disaster. They were already there because they cleared the games and chose to stay which means they are in a coma in real life. They die in both worlds if the players win the game. With Mira aka Queen of Hearts, she had to manipulate them so she could live. I honestly felt bad for most of the game master and citizens. Everyone is trying to survive.
This show is definitely amazing in how they tie everything together. Personally, I believe that the survivors still might regain some memories. As for the joker card, I believe that the story with these characters is done. The joker could mean the end of it or it could be a new season with different people, I don't know. Either way, I'm still gonna watch it.
It was fun watching it along with y'all and getting your input on it. 😊

My thought is, who they are in the 'borderland' is their own experience in real life. Everybody go thru different things base on their strenght and weakness in real life. Its all connected. Japanese Mangaka/ comic artist usually takes some simple daily life thing like card game, survival game and fairytales, combined together to make one story with so many reference and connection. You guys got so many things right at the end. Everything is true. The character going thru this game base of their experince in life, like Arisu always go thru team game because he got less friends in real life, thats why in his "dead or alive" condition, he wanted more friends and wanted to protect them. Usagi always on physical game, because that was her strenght. Chishiya always on my mind game because thats what he's good for. Aguni fighting for his life, thats why he's fighting the strongest, King Of Spades and ended him. King of spades also has an experienced of being in an army. Could be connected with Aguni guilt, but because they never met in real life, thats why Aguni said this, "I never blame you..." to the king of spade, because Aguni knows it was his fight too. The card game is literally about everything they need to survive, Club is teamwork, Spade is physical, Diamond is mind, and Heart is life game.
Story about Ann is that, we rarely see her in a game. She always wondering around in these season. Could be true. She could be going on a coma, which I called it, "She lost in somewhere during that time she almost die..." but you got it right. She did come back to the game, putting on a lipstick (being herself) because she found hope when she saw the dead deer in the forest, she remember what her superior (police/ forensic) told her, that "the dead guy fighting for his life, eventhought he knew, he never make it...". thats what make her came back to the game, fighting for her life.
Other people gave up in the game, that means, they just died in real life, because of that meteorite strike even if they got some reasons to live, thats just how life is. When you died, you died. Some people fought hard, but still died.
When I said Japanese mangaka take it literally, a reference and connection is a queen of heart. Heart is the most important organ in human body. When the heart stop, you stop too. Why not everyone playing the Queen of Hearts game? Only Arisu? Because Arisu been thru that. His heart almost stop in real life. If you asking why Mira/ Queen of Heart, came up with so many stories that wasnt true/ lies. Well arent we all have that in our heart? Sometimes our hearts telling us is this right? Is this wrong? The same as Arisu getting mad at Mira, and almost killed her with a shotgun. Literally, he is fighting with his own heart. 😐 Mira asked him many times, "Are you giving up?" "You gives up, and the game ends." Yes, literally your life/ the game will end if your heart give up.
Other player already done their job. Their journey ended right there at the end, because they do not have problem with their heart. (Maybe) So they just fighting to stay alive.
About Niragi, if you guys never been thru a bullying, believe me, getting bullied makes you crazy. Makes you thinking like, "Am I the weak one? Am I not good enough?" yeah, some people can fight back. But at what cost? You just loosing your own self. Then people looked at you like, you're the one who has a problem. 'Bullied become bullies', as they say. BUT, this story, from season one until the end of season 2, is all about our main guy, Arisu. So Usagi get assaulted by Niragi, is all on his mind, Arisu stories, because he WANTED to be the main guy. He is the one who wanted to be a saviour in his own world. Why do you think that every game that he's been thru, its always about him? The one made me realize something is about that 'virgin' joke, his friends talking about it, Heiya (arrow girl) talking about it, showing her back naked. even in season one they talking about it. Queen of Spade even wanting Arisu, even fighting Usagi for him. Like what? Thats when the whole elephant bath scene happened between Arisu and Usagi. I dont know about you guys, but in some anime or manga, elephant is usually a reference to mans genatalia. (pen*s) Elephants spraying water? Oh you know what that means. So all of this, is in Arisu head all along. While he is wanted to have friends, he also wanted to get laid, and dont want to stay single. (A virgin.) So I think, Niragi is innocent. Its just a story in Arisu mind so he can be a hero.
And as we know, people always said that 'lifes is a joke' when they gon thru so much trouble especially, when they gone thru some deadly sickness or problems, but still alive? Creator/ god of this story/ game is a joker to them. I dont know how to explain this, but there is always something like this in real life. But of course, in the manga/ comic, Joker is a character that has his own story. I dont know. I never read the manga. Lol just read from other comments.
They are so many interpretations for this series. So many thing we can learn. So many theories. Thats why I love this shows. I'll give it 9/10. This season is a perfect ending. For me, I dont want season 3. lol lets just end it here. Of course when you guys said, the story is always cut short, yeah it is. They skipped so much from the manga stories to make it into live-actions. Thats just how it is. If they want, they already made this like 10 seasons. 😅 🙏 Thats all my review.

Great reactions guys. It seems to me that 'borderland' is a place at the border of life and death. But in the realm of this show, that place is obviously supernatural in its makeup (as evidenced by the fact that all these people interacted with each other there). None of them knew each other in the real world, but there they were for all those games and private moments communicating with each other. So, you can't say that none of it happened. It certainly happened - but it happened in a strange place. What happens to those who chose to stay? It's a good question, but there's no reason to think that they are not still there, game masters waiting for the next crop of players.

I think there probably won't be a third season, as from what I read the manga doesn't continue past this point, though there were a couple of side stories set in the borderlands tying to different events. I'm guessing the citizens are people who probably died in different events in the past who chose to stay. Does that mean that like, Kyuma's band all died when their tour van went over a cliff??
Regarding Ann and wandering the forest: I think part of why they showed her doing that was 1) she likes investigating things, but also 2) when she got far enough and climbed that mountain, what she saw was that there were only mountains beyond. No cities or development or anything. My thought is that the part of the real world that gets mirrored in the Borderland only extends to the area that all the deaths happened in, and maybe a little beyond. Which is why all the games were centered in that part of the city and as they got further out from there more nature took over.
Niragi: Niragi sucks and is bad. His ending is the one real complaint I had about the show. While the stuff in the show didn't happen in the "real world" I'm of the opinion that it did happen. He had multiple opportunities to choose to not be terrible and on every single one he chose betray. He definitely has a will to live, but I'm not convinced he's going to turn his life around in the real world and I don't think he earned the chance. He should have been offed in season 1, definitely after the cargo game in season 2, and he had no business surviving the showdown in episode 7.

Yeah, the Borderlands is a messed up place with tons of innocent people dying every day. Yet I don´t necessarily think that the decision whether they want to stay or not make them a good/bad person. It all depends on what they "want to go back to". As you guys pointed out, most of them were bleeding out and would probably be dead soon anyway if they chose to stay, so leaving would be a reasonable choice - even for Niragi. I think the only reason he wanted to return was because of how far gone he was in the Borderlands. It's still a strange choice in terms of writing to keep him alive, make him go back, and just kill off Ann without further explanation to what she found on her hikes.
ALSO, like you said, the *only* reason why these people could possibly be alive after the King of Spades attack is 1. plot armor and 2. a strong will to stay alive. There is NO way they would be alive by sundown after being stabbed repeatedly, let alone sprayed with an AR at point-blank range. Usagi would probably never be able to walk again. I'm hoping to see some loose threads being tied up in a S03, but I'm also happy if it just ends here...

From what I understand from a Manga reader on another comment section of a reaction video is that the “Joker” card is actually Death himself. Death pitied the amount of people that died in that catastrophe and wanted to give those people a chance to survive, hence the games, to be able to fight for their lives both figuritively and quite literally. In the manga the Joker shows up quite a bit throughout and also has an ending scene with Arisu, if I remember his comment correctly. Really amazing concept all together

Joker card is the grim reaper. Remember, the joker card is the most powerful card in the deck. The card is the one who's shooting down the lasers. In the comics, he is perceived as the one who delivers the dead and the alive back. As for the series, it might come or not and it is because there is a spin off of the comics and it is alice in the borderland retry where arisu is forced back to play another hearts game. It might come as a series or a movie. Idk. I might be lying 😉😂😂😂 - mira

The Joker card, in the manga, is a character who actually appears in the story. He’s a ferryman between the world of the living and the afterlife, who brings Arisu back to the real world at the end. So them showing the joker card could mean that the ferryman did his job and brought back all the survivors to the real world or it could also mean it's gonna be another game cos the manga has a sequel so we could get a season 3

The Borderland is real based on the manga. In the live-action, Niragi never had a redemption moment, he is still an awful person at his core. Him surviving was just a demonstration that everyone has EQUAL chances of striving to survive and have a choice to go back to real life after clearing the games. The serial killer decided to stay in borderland as that place literally fulfills his thirst for his killings.
Niraga was in the same Shibuya intersection as Arisu, Chota & Karube, the same Niragi who has already transformed from being bullied to being the bully. He wasn't bullied when the meteorite wrecked the city. His appearance in Shibuya intersection is the same as the one in the Borderland. Which means he already became a trashy person before they were transported in the borderland.

Okay, guys, you keep missing key points by talking over at key points. I think the “borderland” was the border of life and death after the meteorite hit the plaza like Adison said. They were all there at the same time unknowingly to each other in the plaza. The ones that decided to leave the “borderland” they were able to be resuscitated (remember all of their hearts stopped for 1 minute). The two we saw that decided to stay died in “real life”. The real questions is the joker card… does that mean that they are now in the game of life for real! BTW, did we ever see the Aces? I don’t remember seeing them on the wall at the beach and they aren’t a face card. That could be for next season! - Overall I enjoy you guys’ reactions! Keep it up.

As for the comment on the "misdirection", I didn't feel misdirected. I think viewers all performed it in different ways but the information was there in front of you. All of it was a symbolic battle of wills.
