AIB came before squid game. I watched both but AIB is way better (my opinion), the cinematography, plot, games, thriller and suspense is way better.

at the beginning of the ep, you can see the 3d geometry books about cars in his room, specifically audis and bmws. so that helped him in this game

Alice in Borderland came before squid game. Squid game isn't an original concept at all but it seems to be new in the West so it's blown up and became really popular. It's interesting hearing people compare both with the assumption that AIB needs to live up to squid game; when the opposite makes more sense. Both shows are also very different in many ways.
Arisu knows because that BMW was in his room. remember that the characters lives before the games play a roll in the games. Arisu is good at math, cars, and games. All in ep.1
Arisu is a form of Japanese pronunciation of Alice (Alice in Wonderland), and the bathroom has an analogous form of a rabbit hole that makes Alice move to Wonderland, in the case of Alice in Borderland Arisu moves to Borderland where only silence and misery exist, in contrast to a wonderland full of color and happiness

The Squid Game creators are massive Alice fans. They created SG not as an homage, necessarily, but as you go through AIB you'll see some strong similarities. Having seen both I think Alice is better, though both are great. Enjoy!!

@@random-zz8ut I *think* your date of 2010 is correct, though I looked all this up a while ago. The thing is, AiB came out in 2010, at least in manga form. I know they've been trying to get Squid Game off the ground for a while, I'm just not sure if they had the idea immediately after discovering AiB or if it took a bit of time for the idea to percolate.

Squid Game has better acting and social commentary. But Alice in Borderland has more interesting, unpredictable games and more mystery yet to be solved around the whole system. Personally, I enjoy Alice in Borderland better.
This has depth too but not on social classes. There's duality between nihilism and existentialism throughout the show. To not spoil anything I'm going to give an example with what's on the show thus far, Arisu, in real life, doesn't do anything useful or productive, his whole life is escapism through video games, he doesn't actually live his life and in the first game we see, his will to survive and to live suddenly skyrocket. When you see the back stories of a lot of characters, they all have this common. It gets deeper as the episodes go on for other reasons but I can't say anything because I can't spoil.
Also I think the acting is really good here too, the main characters interactions and friendship feel really genuine
Yup, I agree. I just think that it's not as visible in the writing as it is with Squid Game. But maybe bcs Alice is made to have more season while Squid Game is a one-off.
I do enjoy it better though. Squid Game gets reeeallly predictable near the end while Alice remains intriguing.
aye i do agree with you but i feel like squid is intended to be more on the representational side?? that's why it's more literal and straight to the point whereas i feel like alice n borderland is more on the story with hints of metaphors in it?? i also enjoyed Alice in borderland better ^^
It's a manga.. the acting IS not the same , if you think about realistic ?? Well AIB IS more realistic and not AT the same Time since it's a manga but It's one of thé best acting I could ever saw
Only you as the viewers know there was a life/death situation there. Arisu was calm & 3 of them were still calm when the 1st time they saw the die/live door because they thought its not real game. It was their 1st time there, they didnt think they will die there. They didnt even know whats going on until the 1st person died (the school girl). Chota probably thought its a reality show or something, thats why he just made video with the phone. The only person who knows is only the long hair girl (shibuki) & she already said "you will die if you just spacing out", but they dont really pay attention to her words because theiy were still conffuse.
this first game was more like the glass bridge game. unless you knew the building (or knew the difference between regular or tempered glass) you had 50/50 shot each time.
Nah there is a floor plan map near the elevator, and your sense of scale can help. But overall this is a team game not a intellect game which they will explain the category later on.
Alice in borderland is criminally underrated, I hope when S2 comes out the popularity spikes like squid game did!
SG is popular solely because it's a Kdrama. Majority of movie watchers prefer kdrama than jdrama. That is why AiB is underrated and SG is overrated in my opinion.

Alice in Borderland" is a manga that has been published in manga magazines since 2010.
[KAIJI] (manga: 1996, movie: 2009) is the story of a young gambling man who participates in a death game to pay off his debts.
As the Gods Will] (manga: 2011, movie: 2014) is a death game between high school students and large dolls, including the traditional Japanese children's game "Daruma-san ga Koronda”.
[Battle Royale] (Novel: 1998, Movie: 2000) A totalitarian state randomly selects 50 junior high school students from all over the country every year and makes them play a death game called "Program". The students selected for the program are sent in groups to an area reserved for the game and forced to kill each other until there is only one survivor.
These Japanese films in the death game genre are also very interesting.

Almost all reactors called the girl at the end usually as someone who runs the games, and I blame Squid Game for it, because it dropped its mystery on Episode 1 and now people tend to think like that with this.
However, the mystery of this show goes deep and it won't just tell you simple answers like that.

Of course if AiB is basing it's competition on sci fi and other wordly parameters, the mystery isn't going to be as easy to call.
@@gigi_21Xx i saw a channel that reacts on AIB and I can't help but to laugh because they like Squid Game better. Reason? Because AIB's stressing them out with tons of questions, mysteries, and plot twists. Whereas SG's mysteries are not that twisted at all, like it doesn't have that wow factor, lol. And it doesn't stress them that much that's why they like it more. Lmao.
I mean, that was the genre of AIB and it gives justice to it. But they have different preferences so I wouldn't argue with them.

i’m really excited for season two. i started watching it right when it came out and became automatically hooked. alice in borderland is based on a manga so that’s why they’re making a season two, to finish the story.

Why does Bryce look so much younger here? Anyway. Just finished the first season with my brother, and now watching your old reactions :D. I spoiled myself on what the Borderland is (don't worry I won't spoilt you), and now rewatching the first episode and the events leading up to them entering the Borderland, makes soooo much sense.

Also Squid Game was, for ppl that have seen Asian movies/shows similar to it, like the same concept, really nothing too new just bc there are quite many survival shows etc made in Asia that are top tier

I haven't seen Squid Game so I can't comment on how good it is. I have, however, seen all of Alice In Borderland and it's an incredible show. Such a well thought out, written and filmed project. It's sort of sad there are only 2 seasons. But I appreciate that they played it out to fruition before ending it. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did. Great reaction.

If you guys didn’t know, the original creator of Squid Game sold the rights to S1 to Netflix for 2 million USD. Netflix profited over 300 million from the show. I wouldn’t be mad if he made a season 2 even if it’s bad to be honest
i recommend watching the soldiers on youtube! it randomly popped up on my for you page and it caught my attention even though i know nothing about the military, etc.
There's books about cars and stuff in the first scene so that explains the knowledge about the lenght of BMW. But it's not like it even mattered, car is a car. But also, yes the first game sucked and it wasn't in the manga.
If you're looking for suggestions, you should definitely check out My Name. It's an incredible Korean mob drama and has some of the most realistic and brutal fight scenes.

Ever since squid games everyone always think every survival game is like squid game it’s annoying 🙄 not only did this come before squid game it’s also better the Japanese lit own the survival game genre there’s many undiscovered survival games that are better than squid games because squid game is Korea’s first survival show and Korea has the benefit being something western people enjoy watching on a daily basis so it got more exposure quickly the same can’t be said for japan it’s annoying how now a days whenever people see survival games they think of squid game

I've always been surprised that this game is only considered a three, difficulty-wise. Unless you're very observant and have a good sense of direction/proportion, your odds of getting through every room are extremely slim. It'd be like flipping a coin and getting the same side eight times in a row.

I like both Alice in Borderland and Squid Game but Japanese dramas and Korean dramas are very different in tone I think. A lot of K-dramas, even if they're as dark as Squid Game aren't always as gritty. I tend to like J-dramas more when it comes to genres like this though K-dramas are great with horror. Out of the two, I prefer Alice in Borderland because each time I watch it I end up watching the entire thing in one sitting and I never get tired of it.

Survival game stories are common in japanese media so when everyone went mad about squid game was weird but looks like for everyones outside weeb or otaku culture is a new concept so when people usa squid game as a reference for any survival game show feels weird but some differences is that squid game as some had commented has better acting wich is true but for japanese shows this is perfect acting haha

I'm not really sure what part you're referencing but I'm guessing maybe I got a prediction right or something but if you check out our other series we always are making predictions, mostly ending up being wrong but we still always do. We make it known on the channel when any of us have seen a show we're reacting to (Rob with Attack on Titan) and also won't react to shows that we've all seen (Squid Game) regardless if that show will help our channel do better or not. There's really no similarities with Squid Games other than there are games that are played to the death. That's it. AiB is animu af, which makes sense since it's a live action adaptation of a manga. So everyone looks attractive and they do amazing physical stunts and it just gets more and more ridiculous as the episodes go on. It's still a good series, though, but it doesn't do a lot of what makes Squid Game popular, imo. It's a totally different kind of entertainment. I have no connection with the main character, and I'm on episode 7 rewatching this. I don't even care about certain games, I just kinda want answers really. The games are secondary.

Japanese dramas are usually pretty bad in comparsion with korean ones. Alost of overacting and bad actors. Since so many shows are based of mangas its that aspect aswell. But Alice in borderland is a rarety and a gem of Japanese live actions based of mangas. Its pretty damn good.
Actually, Japanese dramas are pretty good in my opinion. For deep/emotional subjects, they’re very good. They make you cry a lot and the characters are mostly likable. I think you speak about comedy-romance, there are good ones, but yeah, they like overreacting and predictable scenes, but it’s the genre that makes it like that. Specially the humor in Japan is not the cup of tea for everyone. But they can act great and make amazing scenarios. You just need to find them.
Korean dramas are very great. Acting, cinematography and scenarios on point, but they tend to be predictable and very dramatic with their traumatic backgrounds, it’s good, I love it, but sometimes it’s better to watch J-dramas that are more focused on the comedy aspects and lovely (sometimes cringy) romance.
