- Come tour with us the Sabiha Gokcen Istanbul Airport International
The Sabiha Gokcen International Airport is the first and only international airport in Istanbul. It is located on the Asian side of Istanbul, about 20 km away from the city center. The airport has two terminals, one for domestic flights and one for international flights.
The airport was opened in 1955 and has been growing ever since, with a new terminal being added in 2005. The airport is named after Sabiha Gokcen, a Turkish aviator who became the first female combat pilot in history. Sabiha Gokcen International Airport is one of the busiest airports in Turkey with more than 18 million passengers traveling through it each year.

I’ve been to Istanbul 5x so far this year (going again in 3 weeks as I love the city 😊) and I always travel through IST but this time I stayed in the Asian side and thought I’d give this airport a try two weeks ago as it was much closer to me, and I thought it was quite nice in comparison to IST.
I find IST to just be waaay to big for me and I always end up feeling like I’m about to miss my flight, quite simply due to how big it is haha 😅
I also found that the passport control and security departing from SAW at approximately 8pm, to be much quicker than IST which is also a plus!
Just thought I’d share my views on this airport and thank you for sharing the video, can’t wait to be back again :)
I live in istanbul. Turkey is good country but only for tourists:(
Soon I will have to wait 7 hours for a plane so I'm looking for stuff to do at the airport or near the airport 😅
Maybe you have some suggestions.
Even a nice place where you can wait comfortably.
It’s a massive airport so you can def visit the stores have some nice Turkish coffee and chill in a comfy chair
I hear that IST airport on the European side is way better.
I’ve been to both Airports this year (overall IST 9x and SAW 1x) and IST is definitely the much bigger airport with more shops and things to do, but I did like SAW as well as they did have a nice small variety of shops and places to eat.
I guess it depends really on how long you’ve got in the airport and if you’re really big into shopping when it comes to what’s better.
I will say that I did find SAW much quicker to get through passport control and security when going through departures than IST, which can sometimes take a little while 🤷🏻♂️
21january I come to istanbul
Hope you are loving it.
Atarsa .... gün 😏
aşığım havalimanlarına. anılar canlandı . güzel video
Hi. I will connect at this airport next month, traveling on 2 international flights with Pegasus. Do I have to pass through the passport control and security checks or is there a designed transit area? Many thanks
Hope someone with more experience can reply, but there should be a transit area.
Why the music it would be nice without it:)
Thanks will keep in mind for future edits
there's a mute button also
thank you for the video. do you think 3hrs is enough from arrival at domestic flight to check-in international flight at the airport?
It really depends on the individual situation, but generally 3 hours should be more than enough time for a transfer.
Great tour of this airport, Turkey it’s amazing
Glad you enjoyed it, it’s a great airport indeed.
