I've owned this knife for three years now. Every now and then I put it away in favor of something else that grabs my attention for a while, but I always come back to the BRK Bushcrafter, and it continues to pretty be my 'gold standard' for an all-around field knife of this size (3.5-4" blade). The handle is super comfortable for me no matter how I hold it, the blade profile and grind are perfection, imo. It does everything and does it well. On top of that, I have yet to use a steel that is better than CPM-3V for a combination of durability and ease of sharpening. Just keep it stropped up after use, and it just keeps going and going.
I heard a story once about a guy who survived living off the land with a much larger knife than any of those. He navigated forest, mountain and rivers until one day he was given a treasure of the Royal Family, the Ocarina of time, and he waged a war in two timelines against the gerudo thief, Ganondorf.

Hey, Chris- I bought one a few months ago Antique white micarta scales /w red liners and mosaic pins. What a beauty! Cuts like a dream. I rigged up the sheath to be a dangler. FYI the leather sheath that fits the bob fieldcraft fits this knife like a dream. $40 + - from DLT. One more thing- the factory sheath has a magnet in it to aid in retention.
Who are you, and what did you do with Chris? Feather sticking was Chris's Achilles heel. You make it look so easy with this knife. I'm actually shocked.

I also have a Bark River Bushcraft II and because of the handle geometry, overall balance and steel quality, it is the favorite knife in my collection. Second place goes to my Mini Aurora in CPM 3v. Both bought at DLT Trading BTW.
I have the bark river bushcrafter. I absolutely love it, it is my favorite and best bushcraft knife out of the 6 or so "bushcraft knives" I own. I do agree with Chris that the spine could be a lil sharper. Lastly, I do fall into the category of loving the sheath.

My all time favorite bushcraft companion (i.e. smaller) knife: the Bradford Guardian 4 (with 3D micarta scales). Partially based on your rave reviews of Bark River knives in general, I recently bought a Bravo 2. One thing which surprised me which I don't think you or any other you tube reviewer commented on: the gimping on the ramp was surprisingly uncomfortable. Otherwise, beautiful knife. You should check out Bradford knives. USA quality made. Excellent designs. One more suggestion: Spyderco's elegant, mega-blade, the Tatanka. Keep up the good work. I'll keep watching.

I am always amazed at how well a convex grind cuts, and BR does convex right. I would have liked to see a fero rod loop on the sheath (it may be an option), but if not I can make one. This has to be a fun knife to use. Seeing how well it feathered shows it is a great bushcraft knife. thanks Chris.

But speaking ONLY for me, if I'm heading into the Woods, I ain't "Bushcrafting". Too Old, Bad Knees, gotta take Heart Meds, I want my Tent, Stove, Coffee and Tylenol! So I like Saws and GP Knives in the 5-7 inch Range. With Bourbon. And a decent Cutlery Set. And Bic Lighters and Zippos and a FAST STARTING FIRE! But that's just me. Yeah Ohio.
+Leslie Kovacs I consider it this way: there are a lot of BASIC Bushcraft skills... And then those skills are then used to do all the Bushcraft PROJECTS people do. I know it's splitting hairs with word meanings, but basically the knife is intended for working with wood.
Beautiful knife...I'm definitely gonna have to get me one in the near future, but first I'm saving my pennies for the JX4 for EDC (which will be a b-day present to myself) and the JX6 to compliment my TOPS Tex Creek XL or GSO 5.1. I must admit, I used to be all about Scandi and saber grinds, but the Bark River convex grinds they put on their knives is out of this world...period! Looking forward to your the next vid...
Just hope the tip doesn't break off while performing reasonable batoning. I read if the tip breaks off, they "fix" it with a re-grind which could leave you with 1 or more inches less blade.
To my understanding, the Bark River Bravo1 LT version was not the design requested by Marine Recon. They came up with the design of the original, thicker Bravo1.
I know your friend is the bushcraft guy and you never consider yourself as a skilled one, but you do it really great. Better than them all and you enjoy doing it like crazy, specially while feathering. And you do review them quite professionally covering every single point and corners. Ps. I like bushcrafter two more than this.
Oh, don't mistake my comment as a Slam! I'm sure that the Bark River Bushcraft 2 is an excellent knife for the Tasks it is designed to do. And I agree, there is a HUGE difference between it and a Mora, and all Bark Rivers are worth every penny! I just don't WANT to do those Tasks anymore. We have EXCELLENT Gear in the 21st Century compared to what I started out with in Boy Scouts in the 60s. So that's my Preference for Woods Use: Science and Technology! But unless I'm stuck in a Bad Place like Puerto Rico right now, I'm not going to make a Bush Shelter and Feather Sticks and (God Forbid!) BOW DRILLS! But for those who think they could make use of this Knife for THEIR Woods Camping, go for it! I just don't have a need for this Class of Knives anymore. Yeah Ohio.
There's a secret to the geometry. It has to do with the convex grind. I have 5 br knives with convex grinds. They are each just slightly different from each other. And they all cut differently. And feather sticking too. I've found a perfect tiny tiny micro bevel on my Bravo 2 feathers like that one you have.
I had a ultra light bushcrafter and loved the edge on it but the handles are just to small for me. I got spoiled using larger handles like those on LT and especially adventure sworn.
The ULB is noticeably smaller knife than the regular BRK Bushcrafter, which has a very nice, full handle (much more so than the ULB). I happen to really love them both. In everyday life, I tend to use the ULB a lot more and it is an incredibly useful and versatile knife, while still being compact and very light. But honestly, if I only had one knife to my name (God forbid!), it could easily be the BRK Bushcrafter and I can't foresee any situations where I would regret that decision.
I like scandi, but over time they get convexed. I find full flat way more easy. I can build an one stick fire with a friggin Opinel. Why all the super steel stuff. Just harder to sharpen
Chris the knife looks nice.... a good review. As usuall.... a few thoughts from an old man. lol I don't doubt this is a good quality knife but is the expense necessary? Yep, so old me... :-) Over the years I have found that for Woodscraft/Bushcraft tasks I rarely use my belt knife. For batoning, tent pegs, fire sticks, etc. I use my hattchet. Of course you have to keep it shaving sharp. For fine woodworking I use my Barlow or Swiss Army Knife. My belt knife I have always used for cleaning and butchering game and for kitchen duties. Why would I want to beat on a good knife. Sure if you have to you should be able to, but unless you have planned poorly you will not have to... When I bulid/built a fire I always gathered twigs and small dead branches from up high off the ground. Pine cones work great. Sure you might have to split wood to get to the dry inside but that is why you have a axe. I use ferro rods and other primitive methods only for teaching others for fun. When I start a fire I usually use matches or a lighter. If the wood is damp... well, I have a small torch or I use cotton with vasaline on them. I cringe when I see someone use the blade of their belt knife on a ferro rod. The handle of the knife like others looks pretty and comfortable. HOWEVER, I bet that when it is wet, bloody or greasy you will have trouble gripping it firmly - too slick - just my opinion. I don't have this knife but I have handles a lot of knifes with smooth handles. Usually the first thing I do is sand down and/or wrap the handle. Of course if you are going to be in the field for any length of time sharpening this steel will be at best difficult. You usually need power tools to properly touch of these super steels. Bush cutting tools are very subjective as you say. All I can do is share my thoughts based on my expierence. So for the weekend woodsman or collector this may be a good knife, but for someone wo is going to head out into the wilds with it.... well, I would get used to it and give it a few mods. Just saying..... the opinion of an old man..... later..................

PREPAREDMIND101 Hi Chris... I have used expensive knives before... borrowed from a friend, etc. while camping together. I did not really notice any difference at the time. I can use pretty much any knife you put in my hand. Some work better than others depending on the task. A lot simply has to do with the blade profile and the handle grip. I like the blade profile on this one - I am a convex fan. The handle may feel comfortable when you first start using it, but when your hands get sweaty, bloody or greasy how will it feel? When I use a knife for something other than opening a box or cutting a string it is usually in my hand for a long time. Have you ever butchered a deer or a hog? It takes a while and it gets messy. I have a feeling you would be putting Wilson Wrap on the handle. lol later.... 😊
dont know about you but have yet to actually have a knife feel uncomfortable no matter the conditions unless the handle was already uncomfortable to begin with. Besides this is a bushcrafter specifically. If I were to get a general use knife from brkt I'd get the fox river or the bravo 1. Besides expensive and premium also means you get better grind and edge geometry IF you pick the right company. while the mora and brkt's can be used the same, I can definitely tell my brkt would outperform my mora in every way, it cuts better despite being thicker, is tougher, etc. It's not needed, but it's not unjustified either.
As far as sharpening premium steel in the field Levi...I use a 600 grit diamond and put the final edge on with the ceramic stone off of a lansky that I don't use anymore...works perfect and I've used it to good effect on 3v with is not considered sharpening friendly...just takes some know how which I'm sure you have ... I've used both cheap and expensive and I'd much rather take the higher quality piece...just the opinion of younger man who has gone thru all the stages of knife loving, from cheapo 10 dollar mtech crap all the way to $200 folders and $300 fixed blades...don't get me wrong I still grab my $c#rade schf9(the brand who shall not be named haha) do do some stuff...but when it HAS to work and not fail I always grab the higher end stuff
I could be wrong, but isn't that a regular bushcrafter? the bushcrafter 2 has a 4.69 in blade and the lt wright outback you have next to that knife has a 4.3 in blade, and your bushcrafter is clearly shorter in the vid?
The sheath looks like its for a bushcrafter 2, maybe it got mixed up at brkt? Anyway I enjoy the reviews, I know what a time gobbler they are. I've been messing with a 3v aurora and like it so far, stay sharp.

The handles of the Bark River knives appear, at least visually, to be slick compared to the others. Are they? What happens when your hands are sweaty or wet?
+Jim Melnyk Nothing. You ever seen a video where a polished handle knife kept flying out of someone's hands? I haven't. Even with a chopper. It's just what you expect. Unless your hands are coated in some sort of KY lube, it's really not going to be an issue. What polished handles means is, no hot spots. Think of it like super steel.... Great Edge retention equals harder to sharpen... Great grippiness equals blisters if you are using the blade a lot.
Really like the knife... I still love my Bravo 1 in S35VN... Got to give props to knivesshipfree.com and Bark River... I'm like a little kid in a candy store... I swear I want one of everything they make! When I win the lotto... I'm cleaning them out!!!
Hey brother, so you know the BRK Bushcrafter knife. It has a skandivex grind. Now tell me how you TRULY sharpen a convex skandi grind. It is not possible. I'll stick to my flat Skandi. Tell me.differently that you can magically sharpen a convex skandi in CPM3v. No way you are sharpening it effectively.

Oh yes you can. My bushcrafter 2, while it came sharp came with a 27 degree edge angle. Way too damn obtuse.

Blade wise, steel and all of that you can't beat Bark River. The problem is the handles are so small that they don't fit my hand.
You need a JX5 and a Los Lobos then.

PREPAREDMIND101 Hi Chris... I have used expensive knives before... borrowed from a friend, etc. while camping together. I did not really notice any difference at the time. I can use pretty much any knife you put in my hand. Some work better than others depending on the task. A lot simply has to do with the blade profile and the handle grip. I like the blade profile on this one - I am a convex fan. The handle may feel comfortable when you first start using it, but when your hands get sweaty, bloody or greasy how will it feel? When I use a knife for something other than opening a box or cutting a string it is usually in my hand for a long time. Have you ever butchered a deer or a hog? It takes a while and it gets messy. I have a feeling you would be putting Wilson Wrap on the handle. lol later.... 😊
dont know about you but have yet to actually have a knife feel uncomfortable no matter the conditions unless the handle was already uncomfortable to begin with. Besides this is a bushcrafter specifically. If I were to get a general use knife from brkt I'd get the fox river or the bravo 1. Besides expensive and premium also means you get better grind and edge geometry IF you pick the right company. while the mora and brkt's can be used the same, I can definitely tell my brkt would outperform my mora in every way, it cuts better despite being thicker, is tougher, etc. It's not needed, but it's not unjustified either.
As far as sharpening premium steel in the field Levi...I use a 600 grit diamond and put the final edge on with the ceramic stone off of a lansky that I don't use anymore...works perfect and I've used it to good effect on 3v with is not considered sharpening friendly...just takes some know how which I'm sure you have ... I've used both cheap and expensive and I'd much rather take the higher quality piece...just the opinion of younger man who has gone thru all the stages of knife loving, from cheapo 10 dollar mtech crap all the way to $200 folders and $300 fixed blades...don't get me wrong I still grab my $c#rade schf9(the brand who shall not be named haha) do do some stuff...but when it HAS to work and not fail I always grab the higher end stuff

Shoot i already ordered the bushcrafter 2. Hopefully its not too unwieldy. But its still bark river so sure it will be fine
+Bradley Birmingham It's a difference of .82 inches more on the Bushcrafter 2. So it's not a HUGE difference.

I could be wrong, but isn't that a regular bushcrafter? the bushcrafter 2 has a 4.69 in blade and the lt wright outback you have next to that knife has a 4.3 in blade, and your bushcrafter is clearly shorter in the vid?

The sheath looks like its for a bushcrafter 2, maybe it got mixed up at brkt? Anyway I enjoy the reviews, I know what a time gobbler they are. I've been messing with a 3v aurora and like it so far, stay sharp.

The handles of the Bark River knives appear, at least visually, to be slick compared to the others. Are they? What happens when your hands are sweaty or wet?
+Jim Melnyk Nothing. You ever seen a video where a polished handle knife kept flying out of someone's hands? I haven't. Even with a chopper. It's just what you expect. Unless your hands are coated in some sort of KY lube, it's really not going to be an issue. What polished handles means is, no hot spots.
Think of it like super steel.... Great Edge retention equals harder to sharpen... Great grippiness equals blisters if you are using the blade a lot.
Is the handle slippery with wet hands?
Really like the knife... I still love my Bravo 1 in S35VN... Got to give props to knivesshipfree.com and Bark River... I'm like a little kid in a candy store... I swear I want one of everything they make! When I win the lotto... I'm cleaning them out!!!

Hey brother, so you know the BRK Bushcrafter knife. It has a skandivex grind. Now tell me how you TRULY sharpen a convex skandi grind. It is not possible. I'll stick to my flat Skandi. Tell me.differently that you can magically sharpen a convex skandi in CPM3v. No way you are sharpening it effectively.
