There is not going to be a mini convention. The late democratic convention was delayed because they didn’t want it to conflict with the Paris Olympics. There is no possibility of a contested convention because all the leading contenders have already endorsed Kamala Harris!
A majority of delegates have already pledged their support for Kamala. She has it wrapped.

Most of the polls I have seen have her significantly ahead of Biden and more-or-less tied with DJT. And whilst it's true she's not yet been exposed to scrutiny which might dent her approval - she's ALSO not yet been given the Spotlight of the Top of the Ticket that might BOOST her favorability considerably. I am cautiously optimistic about her.

3 swing states will determine this race, pennsylvania michigan and wisconsin. Harris is trailing not by much right now. If she picks a well liked running mate from these 3 states. There is a good chance to make it not only tight but also favourable to dems. Josh shapiro could wel be the key

I am not a huge fan of picking people based upon identity, but it's politics and that's the way it is. I'd favor balancing the ticket in terms of race and gender ( so it can credibly claim to stand for all Americans ) cuz would help the ticket everywhere.
I like Josh Shapiro and Andy Bashear for this reason. I think Bashear might be a better choice - Southern Democratic Governors check a moderate box, but Josh does lock down Pennsylvania ( and he is extremely popular there ). Harris secures the black vote, and with liberals - but there is still a very powerful pragmatic wing to the party, and helps right-of-center republicans who might not be excited about Harris to justify a vote switch. We want to broaden the coalition as wide as humanly possible, and run up the score.
Ultimately it won't get you much more than a percentage point - but it does help set a narrative tone for the campaign which I think is helpful.
