In the clip where the Demo's stickybomb blasted you up in the air and you took no damage. By the time he turned around, the Medic was already healing KJ, clearing him of suspicion, whereupon he began to spycheck randomly, and as you said, saw himself running around and began the hunt.

You most likely got hit by the splash damage's AoE knockback effects since you would be in the AoE, but took no damage because the stickies' demo ate all the actual numerical damage.
Good idea, but you can see the smoke trails from the sticky jump when he looks down. The pinned comment suggest that Soundsmith jumped over the guys head as he was jumping, so he got boosted by the demos head hitting his feet.
Rewatching, the sound design portion of the video is probably my favorite. The details are minor but add so much more quality to the final product, huge difference between just having the visuals, to having the sound and visual combo. This is truly the most awesome epic spectacular video of.
Honestly I didn’t even realize that the thumbnails were a collective reference to classical art. I look forward to more in the future but take your time with it!
1:04 can maybe be that the knockback blast and damage blast from the sticky are difrent, so the knockback is bigger so you get hit by blast but not by damage
What is the song he is referencing at 9:04? I don’t know where I’ve heard it before. Edit: Never mind. It’s “Right Behind You” from the TF2 soundtrack. Man I feel dumb.
I personally LOVE the little self-indulgent sound design breakdown bits. Your sound work is always hella crispy, and I find it really interesting. Cheers, smitheroo of the audio.
The fact that the original video was so good on it's own makes the fact that "I am a film nerd watching behind the scenes videos" so much more rewarding. Plus, seeing how things are made just makes the the full product that much better.
These Mann’s guide will only get better in production and quality as time goes on, can’t wait for 10+ years later where tf2 is STILL NOT DEAD and this series is iconic
Honestly, I was so shocked to hear this had been in the works for 2 years. I knew the video took a long time, but 2 years for any project is insane. It just goes to show the amount of dedication you and your team have for this game.
I just gotta say real quick, holy hell your guys' hard work paid off amazingly for the video and I've watched it over and over again because the beautiful work combined with the great comedy makes it a goddamn masterpiece. Love your work so so much (also seeing the Vermintide comparison got me to download the game and now im hype)
I wish playing spy wasnt like "oh hey Im going to play spy" no spies on your team, enemy super unaware of spies, but when you click it they all go pyro and spycheck everywhere and you die every time and it sucks
As a Pyro Main, it's frustrating when the first enemy Spy appears and I have to switch classes because everyone else starts doing my job, even if I actually killed the Spy, because everyone expects 20 to show up after the first one dies.
@@CrazyQuilman157 still annoying as fuck when I decloak in the middle of a firefight way behind the enemy team and some random heavy turns around or a random scorch shit projectile just hits me from nowhere
@Blackout And play Better Spy? Idk how, but I'm worse at that unless I'm using Huntsman...but I think I'm probably just better with projectiles than hitscan, anyway, since I've missed targets at point-blank with the Panic Attack...and this was a few months ago.
3:41 The continued evidence, along with the fact that he literally made a song for another character on his music channel, that Soundsmith did indeed watch RWBY.
When you got launched the sticky at around 1:40 it was maybe caused by fact that mabe that demo used that sticky to sticky jump, you landed on his head and that launched you to stratosphere.
Honestly I love this behind the scenes stuff, I hope we get more of it as a bonus after every Mann’s Guide because y’all put a ton of work into this and it’s great seeing all the scrapped bits. As a writer I love seeing the bits that got left on the cutting room floor and how you all wanted to include more of them, but didn’t to make the video better. It makes things feel a lot more honest and way more entertaining, and both Mann’s Guide and this video knocked it out of the park.
Okay, ngl, the clips of the sound design demonstrations are unholy amounts of dopamine levels of satisfying man, you're really getting better and better with that.
The poor scout at the intro xD KJ : *"I am the spy"* The enemy team : *"Does Spy even exist in TF2?"* Wow I didn't know the thumbnails are referencing the old paintings
I love that you did a breakdown of your video. It's awesome to see everything that goes into it from the jokes to the writing to the sound design and if I'm being honest it inspires me to try to improve on my sound design or lack thereof.
The opening was great. The anticipation of the trickstab, the comical death, the maniacal laughter into sheer shock and terror. Perfection. The perfect clip.
Hey soundsmith, just wanted to say that I've really been enjoying these videos of yours, feels like your comedy has been blending well with your own style and even with lazy purple (which for the record, is a compliment), good job finding your niche
12:55 Honestly, I love this clip so much It looks like the Spy just jumped 10 meters down with no regard for his own life (or legs), while the Demo doesn't have any idea what is even going on
Honestly I'm glad this video was styled this way. I live for seeing thought processes/behind the scenes breakdowns of how things were done and it just helps make it easier to appreciate just the sheer scale of production that can go into something that can seem deceptively simple
I always find myself rewatching this video just for the sound design aspect of it. It is so much more complex and interesting than I thought it would be and it looks and sounds so cool

Honestly I didn’t even realize that the thumbnails were a collective reference to classical art. I just thought the force of nature thumbnail was for the “church of scunts” gag (because that was the obvious Michelangelo one)
The big earner video is probably my favorite so far. I look forward to more in the future but take your time with it!
sound design has always fascinated me and you do it very well kudos my friend
1:04
can maybe be that the knockback blast and damage blast from the sticky are difrent, so the knockback is bigger so you get hit by blast but not by damage
That "Erin: Bleaugh" bit was killing me hard.
the sticky oddly enough wasn't in range but instead the demo tried jumping with the sticky causing the momentum to change from the demo to you
I would LOVE to see more sound design stuff, it’s a subject that doesn’t get as much attention as I think it deserves
Agreed
What is the song he is referencing at 9:04? I don’t know where I’ve heard it before.
Edit: Never mind. It’s “Right Behind You” from the TF2 soundtrack. Man I feel dumb.
Don’t worry, I didn’t recognize it either
I personally LOVE the little self-indulgent sound design breakdown bits. Your sound work is always hella crispy, and I find it really interesting. Cheers, smitheroo of the audio.
I love the sound design sections, and the breakdowns *of the sounds you used and what things you had to work around! It was really fascinating.
I absolutey adore your sound breakdowns, and this was something I'd never even thought about until you made that DnD video
This literally came into my recommended when this was just posted 2 minutes ago for me, tf2 is one hell of a drug
The fact that the original video was so good on it's own makes the fact that "I am a film nerd watching behind the scenes videos" so much more rewarding. Plus, seeing how things are made just makes the the full product that much better.
And the way it just becomes a funny moments montage is just great
These Mann’s guide will only get better in production and quality as time goes on, can’t wait for 10+ years later where tf2 is STILL NOT DEAD and this series is iconic
"Oh my man ran outta mousepad" All low-sensitivity players know that pain
That Stickybomb either registered you as in range, but not fully, and did not do damage.
Or TF2 did some good RNG on your side and rolled 0 damage.
The demo had a sticky jumper, jumped from below and smashed into his feet and launched sound
Someone else already deduced what happened. Soundsmith landed on a sticky jumping Demo, sending the Demo back down and him straight up.
@@Recker45-70 it was a regular sticky bomb launcher, but you're probably right
@@trainershade1937 the demo got footstooled
@@tomnadoyeet6225 Yes... I just said that... thanks.
Honestly, I was so shocked to hear this had been in the works for 2 years. I knew the video took a long time, but 2 years for any project is insane. It just goes to show the amount of dedication you and your team have for this game.
that’s lazy purp…
7:05
When the pyro notices Soundsmith instead of KJ is because Soundsmith was disguised as the pyro, making it very obvious at which is the spy.
I just gotta say real quick, holy hell your guys' hard work paid off amazingly for the video and I've watched it over and over again because the beautiful work combined with the great comedy makes it a goddamn masterpiece. Love your work so so much
(also seeing the Vermintide comparison got me to download the game and now im hype)
I wish playing spy wasnt like "oh hey Im going to play spy"
no spies on your team, enemy super unaware of spies, but when you click it they all go pyro and spycheck everywhere and you die every time and it sucks
@@9frames590 Yeah, I literally just stay cloaked when I play Spy. Maybe hunt down an enemy Snety, but that's about it. I don't land key picks well.
@Blackout And play Better Spy? Idk how, but I'm worse at that unless I'm using Huntsman...but I think I'm probably just better with projectiles than hitscan, anyway, since I've missed targets at point-blank with the Panic Attack...and this was a few months ago.
Or when you do play spy at least slightly well and half the enemy team goes scorch shot pyro and spam every corner they can see
09:33 wow, that is just so satysfying. Sucha s shame that it was so unnoticable in the final video. Great work man!
3:41
The continued evidence, along with the fact that he literally made a song for another character on his music channel, that Soundsmith did indeed watch RWBY.
I hope he does.
I LITERALLY scrolled down here for that exact same second to see if anyone else had noticed it
PAIN IS YOUR REWARD FOR BEING NEAR ME
dude you could have just watched the one gmod video where they literally talk about RWBY
Ok I honestly love how you went into talking about the video and talking about all the sound design and how you did certain things
The Mann’s guide is bg far far one of your best video series in my opinion, keep up the great work, and don’t get burnt out on this series
When you got launched the sticky at around 1:40 it was maybe caused by fact that mabe that demo used that sticky to sticky jump, you landed on his head and that launched you to stratosphere.
KJ when he plays spy is just a walking Jedi mind trick
"I am not here and you do not see me"
"This is not the spy you're looking for"
5:04 my entire spy gameplay XD
Honestly I love this behind the scenes stuff, I hope we get more of it as a bonus after every Mann’s Guide because y’all put a ton of work into this and it’s great seeing all the scrapped bits. As a writer I love seeing the bits that got left on the cutting room floor and how you all wanted to include more of them, but didn’t to make the video better. It makes things feel a lot more honest and way more entertaining, and both Mann’s Guide and this video knocked it out of the park.
1:51 I think the reason you took no damage is because the demoman was there and he took all of the damage and you just flew
You just have 7 Levels in Rogue for the sticky bomb
fuckin' Evasion, lmao
Hell yea
This might be the most underrated and hearted comment on all of RUclips. Time to ruin it.
Yeah spy is probably an Assassin rogue
Okay, ngl, the clips of the sound design demonstrations are unholy amounts of dopamine levels of satisfying man, you're really getting better and better with that.
The poor scout at the intro xD
KJ : *"I am the spy"*
The enemy team : *"Does Spy even exist in TF2?"*
Wow I didn't know the thumbnails are referencing the old paintings
I always see you in TF2 comment sections lmao
I love that you did a breakdown of your video. It's awesome to see everything that goes into it from the jokes to the writing to the sound design and if I'm being honest it inspires me to try to improve on my sound design or lack thereof.
i fucking love the background info into the sound design. incredible attention to detail and extremely well made.
I expected this and was definitely not disappointed
At about 3:40 if anyone’s interested the song clip he plays is Bad Luck Charm by Jeff and Casey Williams
Got damn, Crow's theme got me good. Truly painful and laughable at the same time.
Wow glad I wasn’t the only one to notice it.
Explain if ye pleas
@@Phhase 3:40 the "Pain" here is from Qrow's theme 'Bad luck charm'
@@Jacob_G9 Ah, rwby reference?
@@Phhase yeah
The opening was great. The anticipation of the trickstab, the comical death, the maniacal laughter into sheer shock and terror. Perfection.
The perfect clip.
Hey soundsmith, just wanted to say that I've really been enjoying these videos of yours, feels like your comedy has been blending well with your own style and even with lazy purple (which for the record, is a compliment), good job finding your niche
I love it everytime Soundsmith shows how he makes his sounds, they are always sooooo interesting!
The sound design is on another level, it's so cool, to hear it without the main beat and just the finer details.
12:55
Honestly, I love this clip so much
It looks like the Spy just jumped 10 meters down with no regard for his own life (or legs), while the Demo doesn't have any idea what is even going on
Honestly I'm glad this video was styled this way.
God that knife sound is C R I S P 9:54
That stickybomb clip is the exact reason why you should record "demos" in source engine games.
Makes it a lot easier to analyse.
I don't think we have that option in Valve servers anymore.
@@syweb2 I don't believe that. Why would they remove that feature from their servers?
@@XDRosenheim Ask Valve.
But last I checked, you can't record replays/demos on official servers. Feel free to test it and prove me wrong - please, I would rather be wrong here.
@@syweb2 Okay, so I installed TF2 today. Been a looong time. demos were available on the casual-matchmaking.
@@syweb2 have you tried just running the record "demoname" command.
Ok so basically, assuming the demo was in blast radius, the stickies first calculate how much damage that hits the demo, and then all the other damage disappears. It happemed on Lazy's "How it FEELS to play Demoman"
I thought that only happens when demo dies from his blast
@@AuGrrr yep
I love you talking about sound design for its what I do for my entire channel. So its nice to see someone who likes sound design as much as I do.
Honestly I have no idea how KJ has that aura as well, but for some reason he's a person who always manages to go into the background in my opinion. He just manages to fade away into wherever even if he's not a spy. He just has this aura of fading to him.
