What other challenges would you like to see the trio do aboard Cecil? Or have you had enough of Jack pushing his aggressive pro-tandem agenda? 🤦♂️ As always, leave your thoughts below. 🕺
@@gooders9093 cda is coefficient of drag x area. So yeah it pretty much does. The frontal area is essentially the same for 1 v 2 riders. The cd will be different, although I cant say how without testing. Either way, drag per person on a tandem is far less than as individuals.
Bicycle Quarterly put a bike/rider and handlebar bag in the wind tunnel. It's actually slightly faster than a standard drop bar. Same frontal area, slightly smoother shape. Surprised? Also tested a long front fender (essentially a rear fender mounted on the front) and that was also faster.
Guys! Truly excellent content. Reckon a lot of people watched this with a big smile on their face from beginning to end (like me). Please continue making vids in this self-filmed style, really adds to the overall effect. Great fun
You guys have basically replaced GC what ever they were called.... This content from the hill climbs to the current diary is better than anything they have done in a few years.... Chapeau....
LOVE IT! Since I got a a degenerative eye disease, this will most probably be my future. As long as I find people that like both me and riding bikes enough to steer for me every day!

This is what we do on our tandem... go for the QOM, well not really - but on the downhill the tandem really gets moving so sometimes it happens by accident.
Velodrome hour attempt on a suitably aero tandem, or even a triple. A longer term project perhaps (tuning the bike, training the riders, the big event...).
had a couple of guys turn up on a tandem on a club ride we could stay with them until the downhills then whoosh they literally flew away from the rest of us didn't thin k there weight made that much difference
You guys are just hoofing it out of the stadium with some of the best bike content ever - but I'm really drawing the line at Fudge and Caramal.... Dairy Milk for the win.
My church owns thirteen tandem bicycles, we take blind people for rides on them at least a few times each year. I’ve probably ridden tandem bicycles over 1,000 miles in total.
That was awesome guys. Also awesome seeing you around my local area Bedminster/Southville haha. Took a few seconds to click then I saw North Street and was like hey!!!!
Raised my son on a tandem. We perfected hopping it during a 12 hr event called TINBUT. We were able to clear railroad tracks. Timing was key and with the thousands of miles we put in on the tandem hopping over seams, potholes ,tracks all became easy.
IT'S OFFICIAL!!! Jack is now my favourite cycling journalist. He chose the obviously correct choice, Cadbury Fudge! You have no idea how hard those are to acquire here in Canada. Maybe it's time you had a contest and awarded some lucky viewer and pile of 'em!
GOOD WORK LADS!!! I think that it's great that you've done some stuff with a tandem, they don't get the attention they deserve. I quite fancy my chances at this challenge especially as I have a lightweight time trial tandem including areo bars and a disc wheel on the back!! as I use it for racing in triathlons, so I like to think that I get some decent speed up on a tandem. the fastest I've done so far is 55mph/88kmph on a shot bit of down hill. So if you can find a good bit of downhill I reckon you could make a new KOM.
We did consider it but we were all absolutely shattered. We'd had a big couple of days before that but this does leave the door open for another tandem challenge...
Thanks guys, really enjoyed that. Why give up so easily? Pull a page or two out of your hill climb manuals: ditch the front bag and fenders, give it another go. ;) #morecowbell #moretandem
I rode a tandem once with my brother. Since he has 10 kg less than me we quickly realized that the heavyer person should sit at front. It is way more easy to control the bike.
Y'know i think that bag at the front might actually have acted as a fairing more than anything... Anyways, another top job here, looking forward to more of you lads doing...whatever really.
Tyres definitely make a big difference but I personally prefer the way these big heavy commuting tyres ride for general riding. I used some lightweight tyres when I first got Cecil and found the sidewalls would collapse/fold unless I ran them at super high pressures. Slow but safe!
@@jackluke9243 We run GP4000s, or Conti TTs for racing, with no problems on ours. Split a Corsa CX sidewall though even at 145psi. For general touring and riding around town then something like the marathon is probably a lot more sensible.
ROFLcopter. Deffo take Chris Mills along. And with a couple of extra bikes to lead out for half a minute or so... who knows what is achievable? Sandbagging KOMs should be a regular feature.
you don't know how the wind was when he got the KOM, nor do you know if he was drafting behind a car. should do that again one that you know and can compare
so, if 2 dudes on a tandem get a KOM, who out of the 2 gets the KOM? if there's a man and a woman on a tandem, they would each respectively get the KOM/QOM, likely, but how does that work for 2 men or 2 women on a tandem?
What other challenges would you like to see the trio do aboard Cecil? Or have you had enough of Jack pushing his aggressive pro-tandem agenda? 🤦♂️ As always, leave your thoughts below. 🕺
Title should be 'can we steel.'
I recon we should make Joe's wish come true with a 100 mile tandem ride with Ruben!
Belmont hill climb, see how close you can get to Si Richardson's time!
BikeRadar hill climbs and TTs need to happen on this!
Haha this was so good! Love it, also nice to see it stripped down as aero as possible / beefed up for off-road! Keep it upppp
Nice try guys 😉. Was part of a monthly club challenge and I just gave it everything. Fun video
It'd be amazing to see you join them on the tandem!
@@ikederpike I'm up for it defo
You need to get in contact with this Chris Mills guy and get him to tandem the segment with Jack.
Great idea, do a collaboration with Mills
Maybe if we say his name 3 times he'll appear in the comments? I'll go first...Chris Mills
I'm game
Damn, it's actualy him. Was thinking somone just made the name for the lulz.
It's me indeed!!! Ridden twice in 2 months but I'm game.
That front bag is a great aero brake at 50km/h. There's no way you could beat the KOM with than on.
And the fenders, put some aero bars on it.
All the power from 2nd rider does not have to counter wind resistance. 2 riders, 1 riders with of drag
@@kierenkd cda does not work exactly like that.

This is really sad. I don’t know what would I live for if I wouldn’t be able to ride, adventure and train on my bike!

I like your style of videos. Pretty genuine, well edited, with no huge egos presented. Well done, gents. Well done.

An hour record on a tandem, what a hideous idea... I love it.
Reuben should be glad he didn’t have any wind in his face when he was in that aero tuck on the back!

Such a fun idea, great video guys! Now I just want a tandem.
I've only ridden a tandem a few times in my life and it was absolutely terrifying.
Good video guys, liking the fun aspect to these. It’s not always about power, speed and head down😉🤙

There was a retired couple who used to live near me that road a tandem together they were in the top ten for most segments near me.
Really like your vids like this that are about fun rather than just stuff you can buy. Also love seeing my local roads being used 😀
Jack, Joe & Reuben; the Golden Age of Bike Radar 🤩🥳😍

I guarantee on any section like this the KOM had a 45mph wind behind them. If you guys had this you'd have destroyed it.

Awesome Vlog boys, great story to follow! Crack on Boys!!
should do a hill climb on it next season
Would've been slightly shady, but they should've had the lone rider up front and drafted off of him.
I’d like to see this challenge re-done with an aero tandem.
reuben and joe should have had a go together
They were having none of it! Maybe later.
Windsock?
Looks like the metal skip merchant was looking for a tandem-shaped donation.
I am wondering if Chris was trying to outrun a bear...50+kmh is just nuts

A hub-based powermeter would be interesting too.
You would have to find a 145mm QR hub, unless its an odd sized frame. Ive never checked though. Do they exist?

do a xmas 10 TT with two on the tandem v one on his bike

Aero gains guys..... Whats with the basket, fenders...... 🤔. Fun to watch though
Is the tandem missing a top cap on the headset?
Gotta save that weight ;) It's a quill stem adaptor thingy though, so it doesn't need a top cap, but good spot!

Why didn't Joe and Reuben ride it together?
Pretty area for riding.
Trying to cheat a cheater called Chris? ;-) Good work, and yes, get rid of the handle bar bag! (omg), and wait for a good tailwind!
Didn't cheat...
What happens if the guy in front passes gas? 🤣🤣🤣
