    I found the martello in front needed a lot of fine tuning of PSI

      Martello up front would be fast, quite slippery for my liking though

    I have been running that combo for a while. Trail casing 29x2.4" Mazza front and 27.5x2.8" enduro casing Martello in the rear on my ebike. I think I had them ca. 2 months in the autumn in mud and wet loam conditions. Probably closer to 1000 km and they do not show much wear.
    I tried to run the same tyres in the snow, but the Martello packed up and did not work at all. Mazza in the front however is excellent in hard packed snow, very confidence inspiring. I switched between Maxxis DHF MaxxGrip and Mazza over the winter. I'd even say that Mazza was better, as it seemed to clear snow a bit better. Also Maxxis rubber compound froze up and started to develop cracks, so I unmounted it and saved the tyre for the upcoming wet season. I was running the DHF in the fall, after I had a couple big offs in the fall running the Mazza, front washed out on wet sniper roots. Not recommended. DHF MaxxGrip offered a very confident feeling.
    The combo feels to be harder rubber compound than Maxxis MaxxTerra. Rolls faster for sure. Some local riders also told me they do not wear down too fast at all.
    I do like the cornering knobbles. They seem to give better support than for example Dissector, Assegai or High Roller. I'd say pretty much on par with Minions.
    Mazza is an interesting tyre, if it has something to dig in,it offers good grip, but lack of confidence on wet roots and mossy rocks mean that I cannot ride them in the wet. I think it would work pretty well in the rear too, perhaps paired with a Mota in the front. Maybe if I find those on a good discount, I'll try them.
    I like the Vittoria casings, as even on trail casing you have a butyl insert protecting the bead, something you do not get with Maxxis, unless you go to DD casing. I agree that the front feels a bit bouncy though. I'll try running an insert and lower pressures (now running 22-23 psi) next summer, I think that will transform the tyre.

      Thanks for the detailed analysis! I agree I wouldn’t have much faith in the rubber on wet slippery stuff. ✌🏼✌🏼

      @@mtbtelly5522 Now after some more riding at different conditions I'll revisit this subject.
      I have now tried running the Mazza in the front at higher pressure. I now have much better confidence. I am now running at 24-25.5 psi. Man, those tyres really roll great now.
      I believe that as I was running lower and lower (even as low as 17-18 psi) pressure to get more grip, the knobs begun to buckle under load and as the load was released, they bounced back very fast, causing loss of grip. I have not tried the dual ply casing, which may give better support to the knobs.
      Still not my favorite tyre for wet slippery stuff, but I can make them work.

      @bikingwithryan5968 3 года назад +1

      I actually found they gave me realky good grip in slippery roots. I have Cush core front and rear and my pressure is about normal. I did have a mazza up front and a Martello in the rear. Now I have a mazza up front and a morsa in the rear for dry conditions. Works amazing!

    • @tsalesto
      @tsalesto 3 года назад

      @@bikingwithryan5968 Thanks for your input.
      As I was trying to say in my previous post, I think I was running the tyres at too low pressures. I went up from 20-22 psi to 24-25.5 and they grip much better. Also on the wet roots and chattery stuff. I think the tall knobs and thinner trail casing in combination with too low pressure made the tire squirm and the knobs fold too much.
      As I can get Vittoria tyres at an affordable price, I think I'll try a 29x2.4 (or 2.6) Enduro casing Mazza in the front and a 27.5x2.6 in the rear. If I can find both in stock that is.
      My rear Martello is beginning to need a replacement soon.

    same thoughts for me. They first seem too stiff and bouncy. But after 10 rides they got so nice! Incredible! I started to take care of those to keep them lasting, stop the skidding, got careful of how much pavement they roll on and now I even wash them. 👌 funny same thing for you! that's how they roll.

    Lol the E on this stand for electric harder compound since meant for Ebikes hence heavier the regular martello will be a softer compound the the logo has the lighting logo 😄

    • @mtbtelly5522

      I believe the rubber compound is the same as the regular Martello, but the casing is much thickerhence the extra weight. You’re right, the E is for e-bike, which they also recommend for “enduro” riding.

    overall, how do you like the slash? I have one on order but it won't be here until September. Is the seat tube angle an issue at all?

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  3 года назад +1

      Seat tube angle is fine, I’ve got my seat slammed forward and it climbs great. Steeper would be better but its certainly adequate. Now I have a coil out back its excellent. The air shock was also great but more sensitive to a perfect setup. A couple psi either way would make for a slightly different ride. The coil feels the same every ride.

    Hi I bought the Mazza as a front mud tyre in winter? Am I going to struggle in mud or is this why your struggling in the dry?
    And i suspect the extra weight of an e bike needed for an e bike tyre is not helping you on a manual bike perhaps?
    The e is for e bike hence the Ickle Lecy symbol 🔋sparky shaped thing, not e for enduro…? Just saying
