My mother, Nada Simić, was the leading star of 'HAIR' in former Yugoslavia, current day Serbia, between 1969-73. She led the opening for each song - for 'Aquarius', they had her in a meditation pose, with flowers in her hair, pouring her heart and soul into each rhythm and beat. We attended the 50th anniversary of the musical last year in May, here in Australia. Not only were we both brought to tears by the phenomenal performance, but I got to experience, for those 2 hours, what a glimpse of life was like half a century ago. I felt a spiritual presence take me over, as I was incredibly moved by the elements of my mother's life and how humanity, as a whole, lived and breathed in harmony throughout that period in history. Greetings from my mother and I in Australia - she still sings to this day and she's almost 70 years old!
I noted this in another video of the original "Hair" group...at 1:17 the skinny redhead with the head bandana is my wife....then, Linda Compton. Many of the people we see here are no longer with us...Lynn Kellogg passed away recently.
The balls on this version where they don't have personal mics, but have to project their voices way back up the balcony. Those times are way long gone.
This is from the 1969 TONYs...and I figure half the audience was expecting (hoping) to see at least one of the cast from "Hair" to be arrested. A very conservative group that saw musical theater in terms of "My Fair Lady" and "The Sound of Music". For what it's worth, "Hair" was nominated, but did not win a TONY for best musical...three years later, "Jesus Christ Superstar" wouldn't even get nominated for best musical.
I saw "Hair" performed many years ago in San Francisco. The finale in that performance was sung in the nude. I'm not sure if that was standard practice.
I was there, and we were enamored by the power, and the fact that the war had to stop I was in the Navy at the time. I also had to, or rather a privilege to go to a Kolkata. That’s when the whole audience stripped, and it was nakedness. I was shocked. I was a little Indiana farm boy. I love both performances, but if it weren’t for those performances, I never would’ve turned on TuneIn and dropped out and become the compassionate man. I am today embracing all cultures nationalities in people. It was the highest time in my life forever, and the only thing that came near it was the fire flies, forest group, and Jamestown Tennessee in the middle of the summer of 2022 that brought me back to those heights, the 20 rolls, the 18-year-old. They are the ones that form the new earth society and we did it in and it will come again and eventually we will have peace among one another, at least.
I saw the original cast in the summer of 1969 and hung out with many of them. It was one of the most thrilling musical finales in theater that I have ever seen. Sadly, quite a few of them did not survive the era, dying from drugs, aids, etc. Broke my heart.❤😅
Pese a la deficiente calidad técnica del color y del audio transmite este extracto tdel musical toda la energía de la canción, de la juventud y por supuesto del teatro más que el film mismo. Maravilloso, buen registro histórico !!

Theatre will never be this brave again.
Ach doch. Aber die Massenmedien schenken dem kaum Beachtung und vorverurteilen kritische Stimmen als "böse".

I believe the blonde who begins the song is Heather MacRae.

My husband and I saw them (the same Broadway production team) in 1969 at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London.
what a deadbeat audience. That was fantastic and full of life. They deserved an ovation.
