When starting off on a hill, without the no-rollback feature, just use the hand brake with the button depressed and ease the hand brake down as the clutch starts to engage.

You have to first teach a go and stop go and stop in first gear. So the student soon gets used to stepping on the clutch when braking. It is very dangerous to put a driver who is not used to a "not lazy" vehicle (cars with manual transmissions) on the road. And don't teach anyone to put the car in neutral while the car is moving, you Americans love to make this super dangerous mistake, not that it's exactly you.
