  • My Sansevieria Masoniana (whale fin snake plant) propagation was successful, and in this video I will pot it in soil.
I took these cuttings back in November. I kept two of them in a southwest facing window, getting direct sun from around 11:00-15:00. So on clear days, they would get between 30,000-100,000 lux for a few hours. The rest of the time they would get between 1,000 and 5,000 lux.⠀
I kept the third cutting under a grow light, getting around 15,000 lux, but for 24 hours each day. ⠀Then I moved it back to the southwest facing window with the other cuttings.
Obviously, all the cuttings have been receiving A LOT of light. This is why each of them has between 3 to 5 shoots. Perhaps even more, I noticed spots which could be new shoots. Usually when people keep cuttings in dark areas, they barely get 1 shoot that turns out to be long and droopy.
The moral of the story is - increase the light :)

PRODUCT THAT I USE AND LOVE THAT CAN SPEED UP PROPAGATION (affiliate links):
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - Heat mat (place underneath the propagation vessel to warm it up, can cut propagation time in half)
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - an air pump provides a constant inflow of oxygen which speeds up propagation. Oxygen is crucial for healthy root development
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - humidity dome for soil propagation
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - rooting hormone, for plants that are not easy to propagate
    FERTILIZER
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - Dyna Gro fertilizer, excellent for tropical plants, contains all 16 minerals houseplants need
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - Espoma succulent and cacti fertilizer
    LIGHT METERS
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - Dr. Meter light meter, the only way to know that you're providing your plants with sufficient light
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - Most light meters apps are incorrect, this one has been pre-calibrated for a variety of cell phones
IF YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH NATURAL LIGHT, YOU CAN USE GROW LIGHTS TO SPEED UP PROPAGATION:
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - 60W Sansi grow light (for large plants)
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - 15W Sansi grow light (for smaller plants)
    ➡️ www.mrhousepla... - 15w Sansi grow light
➡️ www.mrhousepla... cable for Sansi grow lights
    ➡️ www.mrhousepla... - shelf grow light
    ➡️ www.mrhousepla... - Soltech Solution's 20W light - Soltech Solutions grow lights
    ➡️ www.mrhousepla... - Soltech Solution's 40W light - Soltech Solutions grow lights

How long did it take to root there? Mother plant with rhizome will grow new leaves, right?
    Thanks

Wow my propagation is always an epic fail in soil and water 🤷🏾‍♀️

I hope you won't give up....try again. More light, more warmth, use a heat mat and a grow light

    In acqua è marcita......
    È solo acqua o c'è l'ormone?

Just water. Not every attempt will be succesfull, that's normal.
Even if you do everything right and provide the most optimal conditions, some cuttings will still rot. That’s just nature, we can’t control it :) We can only provide the best possible conditions and hope for the best. Now, there are a few things you can do to increase your chances of success:
      1) Increasing the warmth of the propagation medium, regardless of whether it's soil or water, by using a heat mat. Increasing the temperature by a few degrees significantly speeds up propagation. 2) Increasing the amount of light, more light increases photosynthesis and root formation. Either move the cutting to a brighter window or use a grow light. Don’t keep cuttings a few feet away from a window, but right in front of it. And don’t place cuttings behind walls next to a window - but in front of the window 3) If you're water propagating, use an air pump to constantly provide fresh oxygen to the water. Roots use oxygen and release carbon dioxide. A constant influx of oxygen increases propagation speed. If you’re propagating in soil, mix the soil with perlite to increase macro pores and the amount of oxygen in it.
      Hope this helps :)

Impressive! When is it time to plant them?

You can plant them in soil as soon as you take the cutting. I just like to watch roots growing in water, so I water propagated it :)

Should i leave it outside or inside the house?

      @MrHouseplant  4 года назад

Depends where you live. You can keep it indoors but if it's warm enough, you could also keep it outside :)

Mr. Houseplant thanks! I live in the Philippines so it’s always warm 😊
