I love it. Only changes I'd make are swap the fridge and the cooktop and make the fridge bigger. That would get rid of that weird useless shelf thing above the fridge and make the sink more usable. Right now it looks like you'd bang your elbows every time you did the dishes. You could easily have a flip up to add counter space. I'd also upgrade the microwave to a convection.

    Hey Coachmen,
    1)-Add larger 3-way+2 door
    fridge.
    2)-Add convection/hood
    vent fan combo unit over
a proper 2 burner LP stove.
    3)-Angle toilet properly and
    use only porcelain.
    3a)-Expand shower to a
    30”x30” or 24”x40”.
    And no matter what
    add top radius rail
    for shower curtain and
    add soft, anti microbial
    type curtain.
    4)-Aqua view shower miser
    should be standard.
4a)-Add oxygenix shower head with adjustable height
    shower bracket.
    5)-Use 360°siphon vent stack caps.
    6)-Add TPMS monitors as
    standard.
    7)-Change dinette to a one
    adult, tri-fold sleeper sofa,
    with a lagoon table. Adding
    some storage for the table
    behind the sofa-sleeper.
    (No free standing tables)
    7)-Add two bi-directional
maxx air fans with all weather use features.
One over bed, and one over
    in the sofa/sleeper area.
    8)-Offer a propane or gas
    generator on this unit.
    8a)-Or 2nd alternator with
aux quick house battery charge and chassis booster
    starter feature.
    *The sun does not always
    shine, and off-grid means
    self-contained and to be
    self-sufficient in all weather.
    9)-Force heated, plus tank
    heating pads, plus insulate
and fully enclose the whole underbelly and tanks.
10)- Nautilus utility and wet bay, with enclosed, heated, protected tank pulls.
11)-Use Dragonfly/Battle Born game changer 2500 batteries, and 2 batteries,
    please. *Pullout batt. Tray is
    nice, but nobody wants to
monkey around with 4 or more 100ah batts with all
    that wiring, fusing, etc.
    12)-The 16” tires are good,
    but add more clearance.
    13)- LADDER!
    Use the set-up that Ember
    uses on their overland units.
    (Lippert products).
    14)-Add more usb charge
    ports to the interior.
I like the unit very much,
If I were to buy a class b,
    This would be the one,
    (for the bed/garage config)
it just needs a few tweaks
    for it to be turn-key.
    Thanks!

Matt I own one!!!! Three plus things that need fixed on these now!!
Renogy Inverter mounted against wall blocking cooling fan.
Mine hasn’t worked since first trip. Appt scheduled for next week.
Rear storage doors have locks like you would put on your desk drawer. Doors have now been reinforced from the inside.
Fire extinguisher mounted to paneling came off and hit my dog.
Space where generator would be is waisted space. Should have a storage box. As a note it’s all wired up for a generator.
    Now the good!!! Handles perfectly!!!
AWD works perfectly and I have tested it all over the PNW.
Can store 4 mountain bikes easily. We use BOLT ON Racks check them out.
Has an oversized propane tank that keeps all my food cold!!! Been using for several trips and still over 3/4 full.
    My dogs love it!!!
And the counter top is not an issue. We love having the large fridge.

Thanks for reviewing this B+. Set on the AWD Transit Chassis. More room than the Coachman Class B. Likes: Lithium batteries plus solar, ability to have a dry bath, white interior and low profile cab. Dislikes: love the garage but if I have my ebike or expensive road bikes in there I don't want those CHEAP little twisty locks! If anyone gets in there they now have access to your ENTIRE rig. Window shade is great but already does not fold down correctly. Does it have an inverter? Does it have a smart TV?

Great review: I own a 2022 version. One of my strongest buy points was that there is a 68 lb propane tank. The empty cargo you showed holds the propane tank on mine, because 1 cargo on each side is used for 2 AGM batteries each. But the Extreme unit has Lithium batteries and are smaller, so they fit in 1 cargo area, hence the vacant cargo area. And the fridge is a 3 way! The whole basis of this unit is you don't need a generator. You can have up to 380 watts of solar! Hope this helps. I love mine, you will too!

I own a 2021, apart from the lift kit and different wheels, I like mine better. Piss-poor build quality from Coachmen, but after a year and a half of repairs, mods, and improvements it is quite a nice little camper. I love how easy it is to drive, very capable to get down forest roads, great for boondocking. Cozy inside, but holds a ton of gear, including 2 mountain bikes. I've looked at many different rigs, bigger class C, small 5th wheels, I'll take my little XG, ticks a lot of boxes on my list of desires. And, cruising around AZ, NM, UT through the mountains and all, at 65 mph, 14 mpg.

Hi Jay....In the cold weather does the cold come in through those garage doors while you sleep?....Doesnt seem to have any insulation back in the garage doors and they are on both sides.....

    • @aquamansrdc
      @aquamansrdc 2 года назад +5

@@edmor127 AA, I'm not Jay, but..... We've used ours down to about 20 deg and in the wind. While the garage doors are not heavily insulated, neither is the rest of the rig, and single pane windows. You don't feel cold "coming in", but underneath the bed gets cool for sure, the sleeping area stays warmer, with body heat and blankets and all. We slept comfortably. The factory installed heating system leaves a lot to be desired, they run a 2" duct into the garage area, a 4" that is only like 6" long into the bathroom, and the last duct dumps out under the pantry and sort of below the thermostat. When the heat is running it gets hotter than heck in the bathroom, everything up by the dinette area is downright chilly, and then the heat coming out by the pantry causes the thermostat to trip off, so the system short cycles. The cold air return is also inadequately sized and chokes the system. I added another 4" duct that runs through and dumps from the end of the dinette bench that is right behind the drivers seat, added a better directional diffuser to the "hall" duct, put a damper on the bathroom duct so I could dial it down, moved the garage 2" to the area right where the hall ends and the garage begins, doubled the size of the cold air return opening. The heating system now works pretty good. Coachmen does a horrible job insulating and sealing the front of the camper area and where it attaches to the van chassis. Wind actually blows through on the floor right behind the van seats, gaping holes in there. I patched on some sheet metal, backed it with spray foam, put some thin insulation in there. I also removed the interior trim in those front camper corners and installed insulation. Much better. I also hung a lightly insulated curtain right behind the van seats, when we are sleeping with the heat or the ac on we close the drape, keeps from having to heat and cool the van cab. All in all, ours is relatively comfy now in cold weather, but it is not intended by any stretch of the imagination to be a seriously cold weather rig. Another weak point is that steel entry step, completely exposed underneath the camper, that step well transmits A LOT of cold to the inside, upcoming project is to get some insulation wrap on the outside and maybe some easily replaced carpet on the inside. I also use some Stellantis van window covers that I bought off Etsy, pretty nice pieces, cheapest prices I could find anywhere.

I really liked this unit, and it was number one on my list last fall when I was planning on purchasing this fall. Then watching the prices on motor home specialist they simply started skyrocketing. It was amazing to watch. Maybe it was the Ekko effect, but soon the price increases were way beyond inflation. And you know msrps never go down so in order to get an acceptable deal in the future the dealer would need to offer a huge discount.
So I looked at regular class Cs. Ended up I could get a Sunseeker 2350, about the same length, get it converted to 4wd at a Ford authorized conversion facility for under 90k total. That means that using mhsrv's discount price I have 26k to customize and pay for the extra gas on the 2350. The numbers just did not work out for the 20xg. It will be interesting to see what the show prices are at Hershey.

Hey Matt, I think Coachmen was listening to you and Andrea again. The 2024 21XGs are out and the galley was redesigned and assume the 20XG will be the same since they shared the same previous design. Basically, the two-level countertop is gone by moving the refrigerator to the other side (per Andrea's dislike) and going with the narrow Norcold compressor AC used in the Ekko. Also, added a convection microwave (also per Andrea's dislike). Also going with a two burner induction cook top instead of the propane stove and Fogati tankless water heater. I am awaiting the 20XG showing up at the dealerships.

Loved the floor plan and that it didn't have a generator! I assume the open bay, behind the driver compartment that was empty, is where the generator went if it had one.
I loved the cargo capacity on this! Compared to other B+ this had about 500lbs more cargo capacity. I assume this was the generator weight being removed?
I would only change 3 things:
    1. Porcelain toilet please!
    2. Move the fridge from its current spot to be next to the shower. This would open up the entryway some for placing items on the counter when stocking provisions (and possibly a larger fridge and remove the counter on top of the fridge).
    3. If no generator, then that storage compartment needs to be storage, or possibly an option to add an extra fuel tank (cargo weight permitting).
Good job to Coachman! That was a beautiful coach and I loved the price range.

  • @carlettewoods3481
    @carlettewoods3481 2 года назад +5

I agree with Matt and Andrea for the dislikes. This RV should have an induction stove top, the stove top needs to be moved over a tad bit in order to give more counter space. The RV needs a convection microwave oven, the refrigerator needs to be in another area, and 12 volt. The toilet should be porcelain and not on a pedstal. Instead ,the placement should be directly flat on the floor,. The bedroom area need aleast a small TV mounted on the wall. There should be above storage like two small cabinets or drawers to put personal items in this space. I didn't see no USB outlet or plugs to charge electronics in the bedroom , bathroom, or living area including the kitchen to plug items. There needs to be storage under the dining booth with door handles to accessible . I don't like removing the pillows /seats to gain access to the storage. There needs to be at least one slide-out box on the drivers side to allow a little more walking space . It appears that the customer has to always walk side ways. There's no way two people or a large person can move around comfortably in this RV. I would have liked for this RV to be a 50 amp instead of 30 amp. Also, i would like a screen door in order to leave the main door open. Does, this RV come cable ready? Was there an outdoor shower or LED lights on tge awning? It needs to be a backup camera and a bumper to place the stinky hose. I would like to see a ladder to gain access to the roof. Also, i would like to see a security light over the door entrance. Otherwise, this is a great RV.

    Nice Unit.
I think in that empty door space, I would add more batteries.
Especially because there is no generator.
Would for sure have more solar panels added.
    That bedroom us cool.
I would for sure put my own double bed on the floor area, keeping the other one raised until I had guests, then partially lower that one.
Kitchen sux... No oven, no convection microwave, and fridge too small. And that stove top could have easily been induction.
However, the MSRP $ 145,490.99 us not too bad for what it has. But, the sale price of $ 116,999.99 makes this one more worth its while.
    Great review you two.

I like almost everything about this RV....with the exception being the exposure of the batteries to the cold. From what I understand, lithium-ion batteries will not charge well under 32 degrees. I'm sure my travels will take me to areas where it will colder than that, so if that truly is a limitation of those batteries, that is going to be a real problem.

Overall, this thing's pretty cool. As far as comparing to the Ekko, two big problems. I'm a fan of the idea of the Ekko, not a fan of its price, build quality, or floor plan. The tanks, batteries, etc, on the Ekko are all inside the motorhome. Meaning off road if you hit a rock, you can only hit the suspension and drive train components, you can't smash a hole in your generator (if you optioned that) or water tanks. On the Crosstrail you can. Second, the Ekko has double pane windows. Better in the summer to keep the cool air in, better in the winter to keep the warm air in, and quieter. This does not (every RV over 100k should have them but American manufacturers are super behind on this). Assuming Ekkos are still going for MSRP this Crosstrail is approximately $85,000 or 42% cheaper than an equivalent Ekko.
Three things I like. The curved outside profile, the crazy huge OCCC (the opposite of most B+s), the flex space in the back.
Three things I don't like. No lounge space (get rid of the dinette, add a U shape dinette, couch, whatever), the wonky split level kitchen, absorption frig.
On the note of absorption fridges, modern RVers do not want propane in motorhomes (propane makes sense in towables). And especially anyone buying these off-grid, off road motorhomes don't want propane. Give us gas or diesel heating.
On a side note, I just moved out west and have been taking my AWD Rogue down all sorts of jeep trails it's not supposed to be able to handle, and it's handled them like a champ. It's not a jeep, I've noped out of trails, but I'm eager to see what my AWD transit makes of them.

Three Dislikes: No front seat swivels (I saw a handbrake in the way), no security locks on the exterior hookups, especially water fill and propane connect, refrigerator freezer should be separate comparments (freezer on the bottom) and sittling next to the shower so the sink can be by the door. The top is not for working on. Also when not moving a convienent storage space. Also love the big garage under the bed. Like that it's got a reliable, Ford chassis we are Ford folks.

I wouldn't call this an Ecko killer at all. The Ecko was built to be a 4 seasons B+, and the fact that the dump station and water connections are completely exposed kinda put it out of that running.
That being said, a very good B+ Euro style RV.

@@FrankBullitt390 That's what I'm saying. This one literally has no 4 seasons prep at all. The Ecko at least is ready for MOST 4 seasons with it's thicker insulation and sealed dump station and hook ups. Will it be enough for a far north winter, probably not, but it has a chance unlike this one.

I like the floor plan and livability far more than the EKKO, but would like to upgrade to EKKO’s dual pane windows and 4-season capability. Likes: (1) Storage for bikes; (2) prefer a dinette (can get work done) to lounger (this not a unit for couch potatoes); (3) lithium batteries, 3000w inverter, up to 380w solar and thus no need for generator); (4) I like the high countertop above the fridge. Dislikes: (1) lithium batteries exposed meaning can’t charge them in below freezing weather; (2) forced air heat rather than a Truma Combi or similar. To me, this is a unit to weigh against a truck camper rather than against a Class B (too small) or C (too big & too incapable off-road)

I would like if the refrigerator was DC only instead of a 3 way absorption. Dometic makes very efficient 12v compressor fridges that do a better job than the soggy meat and frozen veggie absorption units. With decent solar panels you will never run out of power for the fridge.
I would really love to know how wide the doors on the storage compartment are? I have a recumbent trike that is 32.5 inches wide and this would be a pretty good choice to drive to all the bike trails around the country since it would be easier to park than my current SUV and trailer.
I would prefer an induction stove and just use the propane for heat and hot water until I could make RV friendly heat pumps and instant hot water and eliminate propane entirely. This is the project my 1985 trailer is undergoing, but this floorplan RV if it has a wide enough cargo door would be tempting and overwhelming if it eventually was an electric Transit with 200 miles of range or more, but that's getting into future dreaming. Just switching the fridge and having a wide enough door would work

I just passed 5min25 sec in your video and see where you mention the old fixed bed. Some of us LOVED the fixed bed. In several forums I read a bunch of us would not get a new one just based on the new bed configuration. I don't want my stinky bike gear, surfboards, BBQ grill, and other "garage" items inside my house. I want them in the garage, where they belong! I've also seen mentioned in several forums that with this configuration, when you open the back, you let every bug within 100 miles in for the night. No thank you! And lastly, you loose the back window in the new models. I like the light it lets in, and also the fact that when I back into lake/river or ocean spots, I have a view out the back from inside.I do love the new window coverings and larger dinette seats!

As a solo traveler, the Coachmen 20XG ticks most of my boxes.
    Likes:
    1. Bed/Garage (roomy) combo
    2. Kitchen/Dinette. I like the fridge height. Perfect arm rest height for a petson my height when standing. Also, acts as extra counter space. Like the aesthetics of it.
3 (tie) Lithium and Propane availability. I prefer propane cooking, and don't like the EMFs generated from induction cooktops.
    3(tie) Ford transit AWD chassis.
    Dislikes:
    1. Not so sure about its insulation. What is its R value? Good for all seasons?
    2. Outdoor lithium compartment. Are the storage area or batteries compartment heated?
    3. Shower area seems like it can be better used for stoage. With the area being well lit, it could be a nice planter space, clothes drying room or place for a pet. Depending on how one chooses to use it. I guess it could be turned into a nice multipurpose space.
Overall, my favorite layout. Seems to be a great value!

I would rather have twin beds with storage below and above.. With enclosed storage area for bikes and extra cargo. I've had both knees replaced. Can't kneel on knees. Plus that bed has to be very difficult to make for older folks. Larger refrigerator storage in a different area. Get rid of plastic toilet. Put more batteries and insulated inside for colder weather. Even in the desert it gets down below 32%. More solar panels. I like that it runs off of solar. Needs outside rear ladder. Double pane windows. Get 4-wheel drive for better ground clearance. I like that it is a Ford unit. Easier to perform maintenance. Nice engine. Thank you Andrea and Matt for the video. What motor home do you have? Blessings to you.

I love the Coachmen brand and the Crosstrail. While noted that this model was directly competitive with the Echo, I which they had other additional floorplans on the Transit chassis giving Gemini/Compass competition rather than jumping to the E-Series chassis with other floorplans. Build out the 178" wheelbase Transit PLEASE and would have a Mercedes killer! Keep the Leprechan's with the E-Series and the Crosstrails with the Transit! Yes it has propane for the fridge and wanted to point out to you during the debate that you just noted the propane cooktop. Speaking of which, while I love the solar/battery, have to disagree with you about putting induction cooktop in place of propane as that would have automatically eliminated it for me. JUST FYI - both Medtronics and Abbott Labs put induction cooktops with their generated EMF's in an elevated cautionary category for the Pacemaker, recommending a 2 foot clearance which would be difficult to attain in this RV. With the improvement in Pacemaker shielding, microwaves have become a non-issue, but induction heating works by generating an EMF in an unshielded environment. I will stick with propane where is not an issue. With the great OCCC, first upgrade would be swapping out the plastic toilet. The biggest difficulty I have with this (and the Echo) is the bed with three walls and climbing over which is why I would look for a different floorplan.

We just looked at a 2023 yesterday and agree/disagree with a few points. One, I’m not sure this was the lithium model that comes with 800 amps of batteries. Stock is supposedly 400 amp of AGM which is ok (200 is usable) if you only need a day and a half or so of power (we currently have 400 amps of lithium and can get about 3.5 days of usage, maybe a little more if in July and lots of sun for solar). The model we looked said it had 400 amp of AGM but when you checked the battery monitor it showed as fully charged and only 300 amps. So look closely. . Our current class b has no generator as not needed, but without you probably need at least 300 amp of lithium if you dry camp for a few days. Mixed view on the storage area, tons of room but actually dislike that it opens into the main coach. A lot of area to try to heat with only those 2 inch (?) panel doors on either side. No generator; a huge plus IF you have enough battery power but leaving the generator bay empty (no way to use at all) is just odd. Overall we thought this was an nice, relatively inexpensive small class c. Improvements needed, yes, but that will cost you…why not a compressor fridge as an example, why not dual pane or thermal pane windows. Answer is likely because it is still designed like most class c’s and not intended as a 4 season coach (which is rare and not usually needed) but will get you through the occasional mild cold snap (has tank heaters but that’s it). Is it an EKKO killer…no, but draws on a few good, points from it at probably 60% of the cost. It is a bit larger as well (about 4 inches wider and 13 inches longer) if want a bit more room, but not enough to make a difference driving. We actually liked the 20 CB a bit better for our needs, but doesn’t appear there is a lithium option. BTW Enjoy your reviews; such energy!
