A first quick test of the PS5 and Xbox Version shows no different of the HDR Black Level Floor but the Max Peak Brightness is always little bit lower than set in the game. Example: you set the game to 1000nits, max Peak Brightness is around 900nits. That's just on the Console Version. PC is fine.
Have been watching your videos for a few years now and this week I finally took a leap and switched off Dolby Vision and HGiG on my Series X and LG QNED91... Took some further steps and calibrated the white point to 6500K rather than D65 and I'm actually just blown away by how bright, colorful and crisp everything looks!
@GamingTech-RUclips regarding black level and contrast - I checked the graphic settings config in the Documents\my games\AFOP folder. In this file you see the max. nits, UI etc. Hdr settings that are also available within the game. But there is also another option for Hdr contrast that is missing in the game. I changed it from the default value 0.5 to 1 and also adjusted brightness to -1 (=0 in the game). If I see it correctly the colors and black levels are now much better.

For reference, in regards to your results: *What display are you on?* *For HDR Tone Mapping, are you using HGIG or DTM?* *If using LG OLED, are you utilizing the FTDA black-level correction of -6 for HGIG, -13 for DTM, a different number, or not using FTDA at all?* (reference @12:03) I'm going to test this tonight on my 55" LG C1 (non-Evo panel). I will try this change for both HGIG and DTM and will try to report back with my results.

IMPORTANT! Video is recorded in HDR but RUclips has not finished the HDR processing yet. That means the video will look washed out and colors are not correct. As soon the video is in HDR it will be a much better Quality!
why do you put ur colors 15 in S95C ? is too low from default 25-22 ? and if because u are using BT2020 can you share ur settings for us please ? Do you advise us to use it or not, because for my part, I am continuing with P3 on Auto
The game has extended graphic settings, with preview for all elements. It has so much details in its environment, close and far in the distance. Outstanding performance and optimisation. Yet the HDR settings are let aside. Really gives perspective about the consideration altogether. HDR is still niche when compatible displays are mainstream now, and reall HDR hardware is really accessible.
The HDR settings aren't really left aside though. This games HDR implementation is decent. Not perfect, but far from terrible. The inherent black level raise is relatively easy to mitigate, and the game looks absolutely STUNNING in both HGIG and DTM on my LG C1 55". I do agree with you on your sentiments about HDR implementation on the game dev side still feeling niche despite the prevalence and dominance of HDR-capable displays in the current market.
Any chances you'll make a video about the new CP2077 patch 2.1 that introduces a NEW SETTING FOR HDR called : HDR10 PQ Saturation, and perhaps other hidden changes they made to HDR. thank you for your time and effort.
HDR looks good with the method: I put HDR in windows settings to the highest brightness and after I turned contrast up to 100% in Nvidia control panel and I also put my TV colors to a high 40 (50 is max). OMG.. the colors and HDR really pop now. the daytime looks fantastic and at night the plant life glow like in the movie. I highly recommend trying this out. I have the Samsung QN90A TV and I put the in game HDR to 1500 and UI to 400, I also turned down the in game brightness to 9. The HDR is clearly not perfect but this method is good enough alternative until we get proper HDR hopefully in a later update.
Hisense has actually announced a tv that can apparently go up to 10k nits a few weeks ago, it’s probably 50k$ and it’s 110 inches but hey it exist. We have already hit the maximum peak of the hdr 10 standard, it only took 7 ish years, now let’s wait 5 years for it to trickle down to 3500$ and a more reasonable size.
I have the LG 55 G2 and the Samsung QD-OLED Monitor G8. And Boy on this Game you See the Advantage of QD-OLED so Clear. Not on every Game you see it that much but Avatar is like day and night.
Would love to get your take on how tools like Reshade can augment issues you brought up here, specifically the disappointing color range. Reshade has some very compelling options to add saturation and vibrance and tweak color grading in general.
Nice video. I play on an LG OLED C2 but very close to the screen, so I set the oled pixel brightness to 25, can we set the maximum cd with this settings or put less?
As for the S95c settings, I would rather not use bt 2020 since the game only uses the Sdr palette. Personally, I would use Dci P3 for auto with the color at 24. However, I would set St 2084 to -1 because otherwise Etof does not work properly and increases the brightness in the shadows.
It's absolutely phenomenal looking on a good PC. Some of the best visuals, texture,lighting and detail I've seen in a game yet. RUclips does not do the game justice. On a 4090/7800x3d combo the gap from the consoles is huge... Keep up the great work mate.. HDR in the game seems decent on my OLED...but you're the expert in that field 👍 Strangely enough I get beautiful colour on my C9 OLED...pops more than just about all other games since I purchased the TV in 2019... You are right about pure blacks, it's not terrible but it's not perfect either.
Hmm, I've never noticed that for me the overlay shown at 12:05 shows "G-Sync VRR" only on either SDR or HDR, but not on both. But it seems to actually working on both modes.
Very nice material, but I would set the game to 2000 nits in the console setting because the S95c uses dynamic toning in the range of 1350 -2000 nits before hard clip.

Now I'm a owner of an Alienware QD-OLED monitor. 2% window is about 976cd/m² but the 10% window drops to 448cd/m². What is in my case the right setting? I have used the HDR viewer with some screenshots and set the ingame settings to arround the 2% window. Because this is for me my PEAK brightness. Again what is right now? 10% window or the 2% window?

I can't rate the issue with the raised black levels enough! For me, all the colors are pretty washed out all the time. Like there is constant fog over all graphics (HDR is active, already tried different things). Yes, in fact, in most scenes there IS constant fog (why ever, looks awful IHMO). But there is also no real black, not even in the warning screen background after starting the game.
Hi! I'm from Italy so idk if the name settings are the same.. I've a question because i'm not an expert, i own a G2 and i play avatar on pc.. When i select game optimizer, the max brightmess decreases, in sdr and hdr, with the same settings (no power saving, max oled panel brightness) so idk what to do.. The settings are the same, but without game optimizer all the Image modalities are brighter, principally the "vivid". And more i didn't find the settings for hdr where you select "hdmi deep color 4k or off". And also i wanted to knke and set the best settings to "unlock" all the Tv power in terms of brightness and color. Thank you!!

It will clip if you raise it above, making details in highlights blown out, so you can't see clouds around the sun for example whereas you should. Making it lower just makes the sun, as an example again, look dimmer/duller. Setting it to the TV's max nits will make sure you get the brightest possible highlights while giving the best detail.
On Console the Water is really bad looking and its not that stormy. I like how the storm looks on on pc...maybe its a dynamic weather system i hope. Otherwise its also good looking on Console even the 60fps mode.

Why can’t we have a small pop up box on screen to adjust hdr while we are actually looking at the game instead of nothing or a pic to adjust so simple watch the picture change as we adjust
LG -> Colour Gamut -> Native 🙌🏻 Brightness 10 and use HGiG If you are using a LG C/G TV then try and change colour gamut from Auto to Native and you will get a big difference in the games colors, and for a Avatar game this is the fun you are talking about in your video that are missing, I would not recommend doing it in other games that isn’t this type of game, but in this game it makes everything pop really nice. PS: the game looks best on the G3 😉

Agreed. DTM on with brightness 5 and 100 nits above max peak brightness of tv on LG feels pretty perfect.

Just use the HDR shaders to fix the black level. That's what I do now every time I buy a new game.

Try Lilium's Black floor fix shader Enable SDR black floor emulation.
That can fix the black level raised and give you BT2020 colors at the same time.

Brightness on ps5 have 0-30 and PC have 0-20. I think 0 is too little and 30 too much on ps5. Brightness 15 is the default and should not be changed.

On PC, from what I know from my QN95B, the correct sharpness is 10 . 0 is for consoles.
But maybe it's different on newer models.

The SDR colors in this game look somehow strange. In HDR. dont try to tweak them towards hd colors. Better desaturate.

If you are using a LG C/G TV then try and change colour gamut from Auto to Native and you will get a big difference in the games colors, and for a Avatar game this is the fun you are talking about in your video that are missing, I would not recommend doing it in other games that isn’t this type of game, but in this game it makes everything pop really nice.
PS: the game looks best on the G3 😉
A typical Ubisoft HDR implementation which is lazy and inaccurate, ref from some of their earlier games. Good thing we can fix it easily with Reshade.
